Thankful for the Freedom to be Wicked – Thankfully Naughty H0p

naughty

There are a lot of things I’m thankful for, and many of them I’ll share with my family over dinner on Thanksgiving Day. But there are some that my family won’t hear about, some I’ll reserve only for my Significant Other.

I’m thankful that our society has changed enough so that women are able to read and write not just romance, but romance as hot as we want. I’m thankful that Amazon, Barnes and Noble, All-Romance Ebooks, Apple, Kobo, and many more stores now allow writers to sell books through them without needing a New York publisher, meaning that more of the steamy books we want to read are actually available. I’m thankful I get to write the books I love to read and share them with others who want to read them too.

I’m thankful for that first person who thought — werewolves are scary? No! They’re sexy! I’m thankful for the authors who kept pushing the boundaries and the readers who kept reading their books.

I’m thankful some poor doctor had such a sore wrist that he created the first vibrator.

What are you thankful for? Anything wicked?

Please check out this excerpt from my latest novella, Harvest Moon, and the giveaway below that. I’m also participating in a big Black Friday sale and a Cyber Monday Facebook Party so before you hop off to the next website on the list, please bookmark this site so you can come back and join in!

Harvest Moon

Donovan put Maddy down, letting her body slide down the front of his. Watching Eli and Maddy make out had driven him nuts. Maybe later, when they’d had their fill of each other…years later…he could watch them kiss without dying to be in the middle of it. But not now.

Still he held back. This first time with the three of them should be special. Something they’d remember forever. He cupped Maddy’s cheeks, brushing her hair back from her face. “I feel so lucky to have you as my mate.” Then he kissed her, trying to put everything he was feeling–the lust, the desire, the yearning, the need, and the caring that grew deeper with every second–into the kiss.

Maddy wound her arms around him, responding with just as much fervor. Her hands rubbed up and down his back. The feel of her cracked something inside him, pushing him from tenderness to a need that bordered desperation. Donovan pulled her even closer, fitting her small body against his, his cock hard against her soft stomach. He gripped her ass and lifted her. Without missing a single lick she wrapped her legs around his waist.

Another body pressed up against Maddy’s back. Donovan opened his eyes for a second to see Eli kissing her neck, his hands gripping her hips.

Which made him wonder. He’d fantasized for years about having sex with both his mates at the same time–double penetration. But Maddy was so tiny, so delicate. She was a lady. Would she be willing to do something like that?

He didn’t need to worry. Whether she would or she wouldn’t, he’d be happy with it. Just having his mates was enough.

And then there was Eli. Male mates typically had sex with each other. Almost always, as far as Donovan could tell. And while he’d never experimented with other boys, he had to admit the idea of having sex with Eli was a total turn-on. So the feel of Eli’s hands brushing against Donovan’s abdomen as he held Maddy’s hips had Donovan hard as a rock.

Donovan shifted one of the hands that held Maddy up so he held her with his forearm instead. He pressed his hand against Eli’s cock, opening his eyes to meet Eli’s over Maddy’s shoulder.

Eli sucked in his breath, his eyes falling half-shut.

Donovan couldn’t move very much or he’d drop Maddy. But he rubbed his thumb against Eli’s hardness, eliciting a low moan from his mate.

“I want to kiss you,” Eli said.

Donovan lifted his head. “Maddy, honey, I need to put you down.”

She looked dazed. “Okay.” She slid down his front and he put her aside with another kiss.

Then Donovan grabbed Eli. Their mouths came together hard, like a contest to see which one was stronger, except this time they’d both win. Donovan gripped Eli tight as they kissed, their tongues dueling.

Donovan pushed his hand between them so he could cup Eli’s cock and do it more properly this time. He squeezed it through Eli’s jeans. Then Eli did the same, his hand rubbing over Donovan’s cock. The shock of the sensation jolted through Donovan.

He growled as he pushed Eli backward toward the bed. When Eli’s legs hit the mattress, they paused.

“Clothes,” Eli said. “Maddy.”

Conquering the biggest obstacles…for love–Fall Into Winter Romance Give@way H0p

fallintowinterhop01

In my blog posts, I usually tend to focus on the sexy. And while there’s nothing wrong with that, in my stories I actually like to explore the psyche as much as the physical. I like to put together characters who seem to have insurmountable issues and then watch them work it out.

That definitely happened with the novella I just wrote. In Harvest Moon, Eli and Maddy have had a contentious relationship since childhood. He liked her, so he teased her, as boys sometimes do, but she didn’t respond. She was painfully shy but he didn’t realize that–instead, he took her silence for snobbishness and rejection. And because he felt hurt, he kept after her, which hurt her in turn.

By the time I had their backstory together, I wasn’t sure Eli and Maddy could ever get over the pain they’d inflicted on each other in the past. And if they’d been a twosome, it might have been much harder. But in this world, werewolves mate in threes, which means Eli and Maddy had Donovan there to knock some sense into them when they were being pigheaded, lighten the mood when things got too heavy, and steam things up when they threatened to cool.

What are some books you’ve read where you didn’t know if the h/h(/h/h) could get over their issues and fall in love? And do you prefer that, or would you rather have them getting along well from the beginning (and maybe facing some big obstacles outside of their relationship instead of inside)?

While you’re pondering those questions and preparing to answer in the comments (!), have a look at this excerpt from Harvest Moon. Then I invite you to enter the giveaway below. I also have other giveaways going on right now, so check out the Giveaway link in the menu at the top if you’re interested.

Harvest Moon

A smell hit Maddy, the scent of freshly printed books and soda pop fizz and home.

Lisa said something else, but Maddy didn’t hear it. A need washed over her, moving her almost against her will. Maddy grabbed Lisa’s hand. “My mates.”

Lisa squealed as Maddy walked away, around the desk to the open area in front of it. She headed toward the hallway leading to the front doors. Where were they?

Out of the corner of her eye, Maddy saw a man catapult around the corner, coming from the fiction section. He stopped a few feet away from her.

Donovan Geary.

She smiled. She’d always found him attractive with his dark hair and eyes. Sort of mysterious and movie-star like. Donovan Geary. Her mate.

He moved toward her, a little more slowly now, and pulled her into his arms. “Hey,” he whispered in her ear.

“Hey.” She squeezed him tight. He felt as solid as a concrete block.

Donovan moved his head a little, then a little more, til his lips were millimeters from hers. Then he kissed her, more than a peck but less than a five-alarm-fire. When he pulled back, he didn’t pull back far. “Where’s our third?”

They both turned their heads to one side then the other. Maddy spotted him first. Before the knowledge even hit her brain, her knees gave out.

Eli.

Donovan caught her weight before she could fall. “Whoa. What’s wrong?”

Maddy didn’t say anything, just focused on finding her legs. Her stomach tightened and she thought she might throw up. This couldn’t be happening. She couldn’t be mated to him.

Donovan grinned. “Eli Couteau. I never would have guessed.” He held out his hand to Eli.

As Eli walked toward them and took Donovan’s hand, his face stayed frozen, his eyes locked on her face. Maddy tried not to look at him. She didn’t want to see how much he hated her.

The most horrible thing of all happened as soon as Eli and Donovan touched hands. She’d already felt the mating pull, but now the urge grew twice as strong. She wanted her mates. She wanted Eli. Wanted to pull off his clothes and kiss every inch of his body. Almost more than she wanted to run away from him.

Eli kept staring at her. “I can’t believe Miss High-and-Mighty is my mate.”

Excerpt:

The new librarian was perfect. Soft and sweet and shy. Since he’d come into town, the man had looked for women good enough to be his new wives. So far, he’d found only one. But the new librarian would make a beautiful second wife.

Now all he had to do was watch and wait for the right time to take her.

***

Maddy had been working at the library for a couple of weeks the first time the head librarian, Denise, asked her to man the place by herself. It was only the two of them, so Maddy had known from the start that there’d be times when she was alone. Truth be told, she preferred it that way.

She sat at the desk checking out books and answering questions while townspeople filtered through. Most of them had already welcomed her back to Lunaville, so she was having to have fewer and fewer awkward conversations about that, at least. Living in New York, she’d forgotten how “small town” Lunaville could be.

One of her friends from junior high, Lisa, stopped by the desk when she finally had a lull. “How’re you holding up? Ready to run for the hills yet?”

“Not quite yet, but check back in an hour,” Maddy said. Lisa was one of the few people she could talk to.

“Some of us are going to the bar tonight. Want to come?”

Going to the bar meant loud music, screaming just to be heard, drunk men hitting on her and fighting through a crowd to get to the bathroom. The bar was the last place she wanted to go. But she couldn’t stay cooped up in her apartment all the time, either. “Sure, okay. Maybe for an hour or so.”

A smell hit Maddy, the scent of freshly printed books and soda pop fizz and home.

Lisa said something else, but Maddy didn’t hear it. A need washed over her, moving her almost against her will. Maddy grabbed Lisa’s hand. “My mates.”

Shifters, Vamps and More…Hot Halloween Heroes H0p

Hot Halloween Heroes Giveaway Hop

Thank you to our hosts, Felicity Heaton and Indie Romance Books!

One of the reasons I love writing paranormal romance is the heroes. And what makes them unique is not their ability to shift into an animal form or subsist on blood alone but what comes with it…the animal within, the possessiveness, the ruthlessness that would be over the top in a real man but is sexy as hell in a paranormal romance hero.

I’ve recently been reading stories with some very hot heroes by authors like Anne Marsh and Celia Kyle. One thing that’s struck me is the variety of heroes. They may all be shifters, but some are tortured, some struggle to keep their human halves from being subsumed by their wolf half, while others are in-charge and in-control alphas no matter the situation. And I love them all.

What are some good books/authors you’ve read who had hot paranormal heroes? I’d love to discuss this with you in the comments! Also, below is an excerpt from my latest release, Harvest Moon. After that, be sure to check out the giveaway!

Harvest Moon

By the time they’d finished dinner, Maddy felt an odd combination of wrung out emotionally and at the same time, more aroused than she’d ever been in her life. The arousal pushed everything else to the background, even the fear and hurt she’d felt with Eli over the years. Instead, she felt like she’d scream if she didn’t feel her mates’ hands all over her. Both her mates.

The check came and Donovan grabbed it.

“I was going to pay,” Eli said.

“You can get it next time.” Donovan pulled out his wallet.

Eli glanced at Maddy.

“Don’t look at me,” she said. “This is between you two.” Then, concerned it might sound like she was looking for a free ride, she said, “I’ll get it some other time.”

Eli pulled his wallet out, too. “I’ll get the tip, then.”

He and Donovan locked gazes. Maddy felt great to not be at the center of the disagreement for once.

“Fine,” Donovan said. “And when you pay next time, I’ll get the tip.”

Heaven save her from testosterone. “Just hurry up.” She hadn’t meant to say it out loud, but suddenly both men were staring at her.

A slow grin spread across Donovan’s face. “Why, Maddy. You’re not horny, are you?”

Maddy could feel her face growing hot. Damn blushes. She didn’t usually blush so often, but with these two around she couldn’t seem to stop.

“We’re going to have to do something about that,” Eli said, his voice deeper than she’d ever heard it before.

The sound sent a jolt through her body. Maddy sucked in her breath. “Just hurry up,” she said again, not caring that this time both men laughed.

While Donovan flagged down the waitress and handed over his credit card, Eli put his hand on Maddy’s leg and squeezed. A rush of pure lust ricocheted through her body. Maddy closed her eyes against the onslaught.

When she opened them again, Eli was leaning near her, looking at her face. “Tell me you didn’t close your eyes because I touched you. Because…because it was me.”

Her lips curved as she put her hand over his. “That’s exactly why,” she said softly. “Because you touched me. You, my mate.”

A second passed, then Eli surged forward and kissed her, hard. Her hand spasmed on his, her heart beating in her ears. As soon as he eased up a little, she kissed him back. His hand rested on the side of her head, rubbing her cheek.

Maddy felt another hand on the back of her head, and breath against her temple. “You two need to save that til we get home.” Donovan’s voice sounded a little rough.

Eli pulled back and Maddy made a little sound of regret.

Donovan turned her head quickly with the hand on the back of her head and kissed her himself. Maddy tightened her grip on Eli’s hand. Her body felt like it was melting. She could almost come without anyone touching her at all.

Donovan pulled back abruptly. “Where’s that waitress?” He released Maddy. “You two go out to the car. I’ll be out as soon as I can. Try not to steam up the windows too much.”

He hadn’t even stopped talking before Eli pulled Maddy to her feet. “Got your purse?”

When You Can’t Suppress the Sparks – When Sparks Fly H0p

St. Louis Arch Fireworks

I used to think the sparks flew best in the middle of a really hot sex scene. And heaven knows, they can. But the more I read and the more I wrote, the more I realized the sparks fly best when there’s something keeping the would-be lovers apart.

I played around with that idea in writing The Alpha’s Secret, the story of three werewolves destined to be together. Gavin and Liam are more than willing to accept that the three of them have been joined by fate and the only thing to do is jump into the nearest bed.

The problem is Bridget. She’s never wanted mates and always hoped she wouldn’t find hers. And in spite of knowing very well that Gavin and Liam are her mates, she still fights it.  Problem is, the mating urge is pushing her toward them just as hard as she’s pulling away.

In the scene below, Bridget’s meddling sister has invited her new mates to a family dinner…and conveniently “forgotten” to let Bridget know. Bridget’s trapped between them at the table, doing her best to ignore them both. You can see how much luck she has with that.

After you read the excerpt, be sure to enter my giveaway, then hop back to the When Sparks Fly website to visit more sites!

The Alpha’s Secret

Jake, the Alpha of Stonewall pack and Deirdre’s mate, raised his glass. “To Gavin and Liam. Welcome to the family.”

“Hey!” He shouldn’t be welcoming them to the family when she didn’t even want them. As mates.

Her Alpha speared her with his gaze. “I trust that you’re all going to work this out. So there’s no reason not to go ahead and welcome them.”

She wanted to walk out. Even if Jake would let her—doubtful—she couldn’t get past Gavin and Liam. So she stayed put.

Jake raised his glass. “Again, welcome!”

This time, Bridget stayed quiet, and everyone drank. She felt like a heel, so she also took a sip. She didn’t want to hurt her mates. She just didn’t want to be mated to them.

Gavin reached over and put his hand on her leg. The warmth sank through her pants and seared her thigh.

She should make him stop. She should push his hand away. But God, it felt good.

When she didn’t push Gavin away, Liam reached over and put his hand on her other thigh, squeezing it and rubbing it with his thumb.

Torture. How was she supposed to stay away from them when all she wanted was to rip their clothes off?

She put her hands over theirs, fully intending to push them away, but found herself twining her fingers with theirs instead. Both men looked at her, Gavin with a wary look on his face, and Liam with a smile.

Damian broke in. “So Deirdre tells us you’re detectives?”

Tearing his gaze away from her, Gavin said, “I’m the detective. Liam’s been shadowing me the past few weeks to see if he wants to become one himself.”

“I just got out of the Army.” Liam squeezed her leg again. “I need a job but I have a little cushion, so I’m looking at my options. Being a PI seems like a pretty good one.”

“Marysburg is a decent sized city,” Damian said. “I’ll bet there’s plenty of need for detectives here.”

Bridget could kick him. This dinner was like all her worst nightmares of matchmaking relatives combined into one.

“That’s certainly something to consider,” Gavin said. “At the same time, I have an already established practice in Alexandria, and I’m second in my pack. There are a lot of things for the three of us to think about when deciding where to live.”

And with that, Bridget no longer felt like holding their hands. Take her away from her family? Push her around? This is exactly what she didn’t want. She pushed their hands off her legs and released them.

Liam made a small sound of protest, so soft she was sure only she heard it.

On her other side, Gavin leaned in and put his mouth next to her ear, so close she could almost feel his lips brushing her skin. “We’ll make the decision together. The three of us, as a team. I don’t own you, and I don’t want to.”

She shivered.

When he sat back, he put his arm along the back of her chair. His fingers brushed very lightly against the bare skin at the nape of her neck, sending fire streaking through her body. Insufferable man.

The Best of the Bad — Bad Boys of Romance H0p

herding cats & burning soup

I’ve loved many bad boys over the years, most of them between the covers of a book. Which makes it oh-so-hard to choose my favorite.

Should I choose Curran, the Beast Lord, Kate Daniels’ sort-of nemesis and greatest temptation? Or Eric Northman, who wooes Sookie Stackhouse with arrogant and singular purpose? How about Derek, that almost-a-full-grown-werewolf in the Darkest Powers series who can’t seem to figure out how to stop growling? And who could forget the lovely, sexy, tortured heroes of Kresley Cole’s Immortals After Dark series? (Every. Single. One.)

I can’t choose. I might blink and realize I made a huge mistake, that instead I love Iceman from Top Gun or The Saint…oh, The Saint. I might realize I love, love, love Oliver Queen, especially when he’s being broody and secretive and kick-ass. And I might remember that I must not forget all the wonderful, sexy, Navy SEAL heroes sprung from Suzanne Brockmann’s imagination!

What bad boys do you love? And how much trouble do you have deciding? :)

Before you answer, take a look at one of my own bad boys, Damian from The Alpha’s Obsession. Then check out the giveaways and be sure to hop to the next stop. Thanks for stopping by!

Maeve lay curled in Nate’s arms, her eyes closed. Damian’s whole life, this was all he’d wanted. Except now it wasn’t enough.

Her eyes opened. “Thank you,” she said.

“You didn’t bring much.” The words came out of his mouth before he could stop them. “Not planning to stay long?”

Maeve sat up, Nate’s hand still resting on her hip. “It isn’t like that.”

“You aren’t going to try to justify it,” he snarled. God, when had he become such an asshole? He could see the same question reflected on Nate’s face. Damian usually didn’t act like this. It just—she just—

“Why are you taking it personally?” She stood. “It’s just luggage.”

He stepped forward, towering over her. “It’s two tiny suitcases. What, you didn’t think you were going to stay? Only brought enough to last a couple of nights?”

She stepped closer to him. They’d be nose to nose if she weren’t so tiny. “Why are you so angry?”

“Don’t tell me you don’t understand,” he said. “Those suitcases say it pretty well. You don’t want us.”

She sucked in a breath. The room grew silent. “It’s all I have.”

“I know. I got it out of the car.”

“No.” She put her hand on his arm. “That’s all I own.”

He looked at the two suitcases, his rage deflating. “You’re kidding.”

Nate stepped behind her. “There’s no way you have a whole wardrobe in there.”

“Well, yeah,” she said. “I like to travel light.”

“You mean you like to run off,” Damian said.

“She didn’t run off the whole time she was with her aunt and uncle,” Nate said. “Did you?”

Maeve shook her head. “But I was ready. If Ted ever found me…”

An overwhelming desire to protect replaced his rage. “He’s gone.” Damian put his hands on her waist. “He’ll never hurt you again.”

Obsession360Hidden in an otherwise modern world, werewolves mate in threesomes dictated by a mating lust that tells them without doubt who their fated mates are. After struggling through years of separation made worse by the mating urge riding them all, three werewolves come together once again. Maeve, Nate and Damian must face their past in a fight for their love and their lives. Can they overcome their demons to find a love that lasts?

Mythos Academy Loot For the Love of Mythology

As I prepared this blog hop stop, I thought a lot about which books I’ve read and enjoyed that had gods and goddesses from mythology in them. All the books that came to mind were Y/A. As you can probably see in the sidebar, I write romance, and fairly steamy romance at that. So I kind of wanted to do a mythology giveaway that would fall closer in line with my steamy paranormal romance books. I tried again to think of some…I thought of lots of great books, many of which have all manner of immortal creature. Some that I thought of even have ‘gods’ although those gods aren’t from mythology. In the end, I came back to those first series that sprang to mind.

I’ve very recently been reading the Mythos Academy series by Jennifer Estep. I love them. The gods and goddesses in this series are all around them and at the same time, distant. And I hesitate to say more because I don’t want to give away any spoilers. But I love this series so much I’m going to give away the first two in the series — the short story First Frost and the novel A Touch of Frost — as my giveaway below.

Another Y/A series I’ve read that kept popping into my head was the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan. That series has a whole different feel to it but I enjoyed it just as much as I’m enjoying Mythos Academy.

What about you? What books have you enjoyed that had gods and goddesses from mythology in them?

The Hottest Summer Nights

One of the hottest summer nights I ever experienced was in Las Vegas in July. Some friends and I were there on vacation and we decided to do an impromptu bar hop. The night was literally hot, and seemed even hotter to someone used to colder climes.

But that wasn’t all. Along the way, I met a guy–cute, funny, sexy. We hit it off right away. And while we didn’t end up together long-term, it was very hot while it lasted.

What is your hottest summer night?

I hope you enjoy the excerpt below from my newest release, Aurelia and the Three Bodyguards. Then be sure to enter my giveaway and comment in order to enter the grand prize for the hop!

Excerpt from Aurelia and the Three Bodyguards

If Aurelia thought Drake was crazy after they slept together, it was nothing compared to how he’d be once he found out she escaped. She perched on the edge of her gilded cage, the door hanging open. She could still close that door. He’d never know she’d ever gotten it open.

And she’d never be free.

She jumped out of the cage and ran.

Her cage was in the corner of his bedroom. For days, he’d kept her locked in there, raging that she was his and he would protect her, keep her safe from everyone else. She liked a protective man as much as the next woman, but this was way over the line.

The bedroom was about the size of her entire apartment, and done in white and red. The bed dominated the room, swaths of red fabric falling from the canopy over the white linens. Her golden cage with its plush pillows and little table for refreshments fit in nicely with the decor.

When she’d met Drake, she’d thought she’d lucked out to have such a wealthy man interested in her. Such luck.

Her clothes and purse were hung neatly in the walk-in closet. She grabbed her purse and shoved her feet into a pair of sneakers. The clothes she had on would have to do.

When she got to the door, she eased it open, peeking down the hall to make sure no one was around. One good thing about Drake’s possessiveness was that he didn’t want any men around her at all. Not even guards. He assumed the cage was enough to keep her where he wanted her. Heck, half the time he acted like she should be happy and willing to be in the cage. It wasn’t hard to tamper with the lock so it didn’t catch the last time he closed it. But if she didn’t get away this time, he’d make sure she didn’t have another chance.

No one in the hall. Aurelia crept down this hall, then the next. Then she was at the top of the stairs. She wished she knew the mansion better, wished she knew where the servants’ staircase was. Instead, she’d have to descend into that huge foyer and hope he was nowhere around.

She paused on each step to look around the foyer and into the rooms whose doors she could see. Light streamed through the windows next to the door. Against the light stone-colored floor and glass table, it made everything look a little translucent. There was no motion and no sound. She just hoped she wouldn’t get caught in the middle of the steps with nowhere to hide.

Another step. Another. The front door was so tantalizingly close.

And Drake was so strong. When they’d started dating, she’d thought he was human. If she’d known he was a dragon, she wouldn’t have gone out with him at all. God, could dragons be possessive. Still, she’d never heard of one putting his lady love in a cage. Drake had simply gone bat-crazy.

At the bottom of the steps, she heard a sound. It seemed to come from behind her, so she hurried around the corner and hid behind the door of the front parlor. She could just see the foyer through the crack between the door and the frame.

Drake walked into the foyer, his servant Marie next to him. He was as tall, dark and handsome as he’d been the first time they met. Even knowing how crazy he was, she felt drawn to his masculine good looks.

Then she noticed that Marie held a tray of food which was probably meant for Aurelia. Damnit, they’d know she was gone before she had a chance to get very far.

“I’ll take it up.” Drake took the tray from Marie.

Marie turned and walked back toward the kitchen while Drake ascended the steps. As soon as Aurelia couldn’t see him anymore, she raced for the front door.

Locked!

Thank God it didn’t need a key. She twisted the deadbolt and yanked the door open. Then she ran.

She had made it to the street, past the hedge and the row of tall trees, before she heard Drake bellowing. He’d discovered her empty cage.

A tingling raced across her skin. Crap, was he using magic to find her? How could she escape that?

Aurelia jogged down the street while fishing her cell phone out of her purse. Dead. Not surprising, considering how long it had been sitting in the closet. At least she’d been here a few times and knew which way to go for the more populated roads. Maybe she could catch a cab.

All the houses were huge. It took minutes to pass each manicured lawn. She had forgotten how far away the closest main street was.

Not that she could go home. That’s the first place he’d look for her. A hotel, then. At least she had her credit cards.

She felt another tingle slide down her body.

Maybe she should head straight for the airport.
