my inspiration, Jo Barby...

Me and jo
after internet stalking her for a bit more than a year, the day finally arrived that i would be able to sit one-on-one with Jo Barby and learn how to "see".


captivated by how Jo's artwork reaches right through the 2-dimensional surface and becomes its 3-dimensional entity, i had to learn from her, i knew i wanted to "see" what she did in the everyday. So imagine how excited i was when i asked her to fly half way across the world and teach at my STUDIO and she said YES!

numbers have souls...

Pythagoras believed numbers had souls, as well as magical powers.
me too!!

i love the shapes, the symbolism and the fact that they are universal. it is super common to find numbers scattered throughout my art, often time the same numbers.

i love the sense of infinity of the 8.
you can sometimes fine 235 in my work referring to 2 parents, 3 children = a family of 5.
0 gives me the feeling of completeness or a circle of life
69 while yes has many a meaning, i ALSO see it as a yin-yang elemen...

snapshots of current encaustic work

i have spent a good part of the past few weeks really coming to know and understand encaustic as a new media. i have experimented with products, immersed myself in books and video and tried some really flammable awesome techniques. i have purchased wax paints, substrates & experimented with heat tools...to the point of buying a blow torch and setting the art on fire!! thats my favorite part (i may have pyromaniac tendencies, lol).
