J Bennett lives and writes in San Diego. Her writing partner is a bunny named Avalon who contributes to each manuscript by trying to eat it. His adorableness is his primary strength as a writer.

J Bennett is a professional copywriter and an author who loves asking that oh-so-dangerous question – “What if?” She currently writes a paranormal adventure series, Girl With Broken Wings, and a tongue-in-cheek short story series, The Vampire’s Housekeeper Chronicles, featuring a very old, very grouchy, very non-sparkly vampire and his patient housekeeper.

She also writes the blog www.ShyWriter.com

Maya, Tarren, and Gabe must capture an angel alive to help Lo continue his research, and Maya realizes that her feelings for Rain Bailey may be getting in the way of the mission.

It's so rough right now, but I have high hopes that eventually this will become a tight and strong novel that readers of the series will love. (less)

Hello Brett,

Thanks for the question and for being a fan of both of my series. At the beginning of FALLING (book one of the Girl With Broken Wings series), Maya is your typical romantic, naive college student. She and her boyfriend, Ryan conceive of Avalon, an imaginary perfect island that they are going to build. It’s going to be beautiful and peaceful, powered only by renewal resources, and they will only allow good, hard-working people onto the island.

Ryan draws a picture of what Avalon is going to look like, and Tarren steals this drawing and brings it to Maya at their house in Pueblo, where she hangs it on the ceiling of her new bedroom.

Avalon represents a couple of different things in this story. On the surface, it is the one physical connection Maya has to her past life and to Ryan, but it also represents her early mindset. Avalon is an ideal, a piece of perfection in a black and white world where people and things can easily be categorized as good or evil. Over the course of the series, Maya comes to see that the world is full of gray and that, ironically, she would not be allowed onto her own island. (less)

“It was a dark and stormy night... Yes it was…. Who’s telling the story? Girl who was unconscious for most of it or the guy who saved the day? …Well, if you’d be so kind, I will tell you exactly how I did it. Capiche? …Good.”
J Bennett, Falling

“We’re here to send you back to Hell where you belong,” Tarren said, his eyes glinting dangerously. …Yeah, course he said that. Tarren is full of witty one-liners. He spends hours every night thinking them up and writing them down in his diary… No, I’ve seen it. It’s pink and got little flowers all over it. …Oh, now that’s just mean. Wait, you’re making me laugh, I gotta keep going…. The story. Stop interrupting. I’m losing my place.”
J Bennett, Falling

“Perhaps they catch the secrets of our hearts and hold them for us until we are brave enough to give them voice. Pixie Girl is stupid girl.”
J. Bennett, Falling
