Goodreads Challenge 2017: Book 2

Book 2: First Star I See Tonight by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

Yes yes, I know. I'm like the last person to read this book! And this is another romance sub-genre I don't read as much of—romantic comedy. Normally, I go for the full-on drama, the feels, the tissues. But sometimes it's nice to spend a few days with a story that makes you laugh out loud, and gives you a break from the real world.

Goodreads Challenge 2017: Book 1

I'm reading 100 books for the 2017 Goodreads Challenge. I'm hopelessly behind already, but fingers crossed!

Book 1: Midnight Exposure by Melinda Leigh

I wanted to start out the new year by reading a genre I don't normally read. I chose this romantic suspense set in Maine largely because I love the wonderful state of Maine and have spent many a summer vacation hiking, kayaking, sailing and camping on Mt. Desert, in Camden, Brooklin, and Deer Isle. I even attended a Johns Hopkins Summer Writing Conference in Bar Harbor one year, where I took a workshop with the incomparable Alice McDermott. (Although it rained cats and dogs the entire week.)

"What a sigh-worthy tale! The relationship between Marie and Luc is a slowly growing burn. One that isn't an insta-love relationship, it builds with each lesson, making it much more romantic ... There are twists and turns in this story that one will not expect, which is a delightful surprise. Ms. Gabriel does an amazing job of making the reader want to turn every page and savor it." -- InD'Tale Magazine

"Gabriel paints white-hot sex scenes."-- Kirkus Reviews

Next to You .99 on Amazon

My newest release, Next to You, is just .99 on Amazon right now.

http://amzn.to/1sfcZPI

Next to You is both longer (264 pages) and (ahem) steamier than Cupcakes & Chardonnay and Falling for the Prodigal Son. Just so you know. :-)

Next to You by Julia Gabriel

A scarred and lonely billionaire hiding from his past ...

Jared Connor lost his innocence at the age of ten when his father poured gasoline around the family home and left his two young sons to die in the flames. Now an adult, he's carefully crafted a pretend life where he can hide his scars and his death row father behind the guise of a caretaker's pickup truck and a pair of gardening shears. But when a beautiful woman with scars of her own barges into his quiet, solitary life, Jared finds it increasingly difficult to hide from what he really wants.

A successful young businesswoman ill at ease in her newfound beauty ...

Phlox Miller was never the pretty girl and no magic mascara or secret serum was ever going to change that—not even one manufactured by her own company. When an accident at her country home burns her face and body, she spares no expense on her recovery and plastic surgery. Now she turns heads on the street, but can't recognize herself in the mirror—and can't convince the man she loves that he's beautiful, too.

Can two people see beyond appearances to find true love?
