This week's snippet we're into Part II, after they've been reunited. Ase had been raising hell, as usual. After a bad run-in our guys had a pretty shitty night and Jase was called out to give Ase a ride home, which Ase was less than grateful to accept.
UGH! THESE GUYS!
Hope you guys enjoy. We're almost there. Stay tuned for more snippets, and another giveaway soon. Oh, and don't forget to take a look at the first ARC review from Lili over at Jessewave. You can see that if you [Click Here] .

This week's snippet we're into Part II, after they've been reunited. Ase had been raising hell, as usual. After a bad run-in our guys had a pretty shitty night and Jase was called out to give Ase a ride home, which Ase was less than grateful to accept.
Jase kept his eyes on the road as he pulled out of the parking lot and started easing his way down the streets. There’d be at least twenty minutes between there and where they were if he took back roads. Did he just sit silently? They’d obviously sent him for a reason, but… what could he do for Ase? The man wasn’t exactly receptive to his presence.
“Any idea why your boyfriend called me to come out?” He tried to keep his tone from being snide—or jealous—when he said the word boyfriend.
Ase grunted. “Because my friend is a meddlesome little puto.”
Jase smiled despite himself. “I’m sure he’ll be glad to hear it.” The silence stretched a bit as he turned on what they called the old highway around town, because it’d once been the main artery before the interstate had come on the east side of town.
“Why’d you go this way?”
“Because there’s no traffic lights.”
“It’s also creepy as fuck.”
“Are you going to fight with me about everything?”
“Are you a closet-case?” Ase’s tone was anything but friendly, so Jase assumed he’d intended that to be a rhetorical question. But it made Jase fucking angry. How fucking dare this man? He had no clue what Jase had been through over the last few years. He didn’t realize what being in this fucking town was like for him. He thought he’d finally gotten away from it all, the recriminations and the insecurities, and here he was pulled back by the ghosts.
Jase waited ‘til he saw a gravel patch on the shoulder of the road and pulled off, angling his truck toward the woods. Ase’s surprised “What the fuck?” made some childish part of Jase exceptionally pleased with himself.
“What the fuck is your problem?” Jase snapped.
“What the fuck are you talking about?”
“You can stop with the digs about me being a closet-case. They’re beneath you. And this weird, fucked-up show you’re putting on to prove how angry you are with me is bullshit, so you can stop that right the fuck now, too.” The words hit Ase. because his eyes bored into Jase’s, chest heaving as he breathed, but losing whatever fight had been left in him. Jase hadn’t realized until he spat the words out, that’s exactly what it’d been. Ase had been all bluster and fight, but it’d been a show. Wasn’t hard to figure that out with all the walls Ase had put up around himself. But he couldn’t fool Jase. Jase remembered that spark that’d been in his eyes years ago, the one tamped down, but still trying to twinkle to life when they looked at each other.
“I never got a goodbye. I never got a fuck you. Then you show up here, surprise the hell out of me, and spend a week being a shit.”
“What do you want from me, Jase?”
Jase frowned. “I don’t know what you mean.” Ase flicked his gaze down to Jase’s crotch. Jase hadn’t even realized he was hard. He swallowed thickly and looked up to see Ase’s face wearing that old, familiar, and sorely missed dirty smirk. “Fuck,” Jase said, under his breath.
Ase slid up the armrest and leaned over the bench seat into Jase’s space. Before Jase could really think, Ase’s hand was on his jeans-clad cock, stroking.
“Fuck, Ase, this…”
“Feels good, right? You want some closure? You want a goodbye? That’s what you want?” Jase wanted to say no, to push Ase off, but he was trapped in those fucking onyx-black eyes and even though the scent of vodka was strong around Ase, it didn’t cover up his natural cloves and musk scent. Ase’s lips attached to Jase’s neck.
“Si, I think that’s what he wants,” Ase rumbled, as Jase moaned. “My little gringo didn’t get enough taste of his brown boy?” Ase started stroking Jase. “You said it all the time in your e-mails. You missed my body. The way I touched you.” Ase unbuttoned Jase’s pants. He had a brief moment of thinking that they shouldn’t do this here. But they wouldn’t be the only ones parking on this lonely stretch of highway for the same reason.
“We shouldn’t,” Jase said.
“Aw. Forgot what it was like to be with a man? Afraid you still like it too much?”
Jase snarled, shoving Ase back. “You’re a fucker.” Ase’s cocky smirk died, morphing into a sneer.
“What? You said you didn’t get a goodbye?”
Jase wanted to pull his fucking hair out. Fuck. “Ase, what the fuck?” But he noticed Ase was just as hard as he was.
Ase’s eyes were stunned when Jase reached for his pants. “I’ve been with plenty of men since you.” Jase felt a certain pleasure in the stricken look the flitted across Ase’s features when he said the words, but also a little sad they’d come to this.
“Sure, you can give me fucking closure. Seems like you need it, too,” Jase said, pulling Ase’s proud, thick cock from the confines of Ase’s skinny jeans, stroking it firmly. He looked at Ase’s mouth hanging open and couldn’t stop himself from kissing the man as he stroked him off.
Ase tried to pull out of the kiss but Jase said brokenly, “No. You don’t get to act like I’m just any other fuck. If this is it, you’re with me.”
God, as dramatic as they were being, you’d think they’d actually dated those months rather than just exchanging silly, crushing-teenager e-mails.
“I was lost those last few months in the military, scared shitless I’d die, or maybe scared that I wouldn’t; that I’d get home and it’d be as shitty as I thought it would.” Jase spit on his hand and continued stroking Ase, who was watching him warily but with lust-clouded eyes. “Then I got home and the only sane thing I had, the only thing I looked forward to was hearing from you, because my parents were so upset with me over everything and anything.”
“Jase.”
“Then you stopped. You just stopped. And I know it was just a fuck, thousands of miles and a world away, but fuck…” Jase kept stroking Ase, nipping his chin, his jaw, his ear. Ase started bucking into the hand job.
Ase stilled Jase’s hand and made him look him in the eye. “Jase, you shouldn’t want me.” Jase snatched his face from Ase’s grip. “Why does it matter if this is goodbye anyway?”

Here goes.
In the following snippet, still in Part I ( [CLICK HERE] to see the first chapter & get more info on Ase & Jase) Ase & Jase have met up in Munich after a little harmless stalking by Ase.
He looked up at Ase who’d placed a hand on his on the tabletop after they’d taken a seat. “Thanks for coming out, tonight,” Ase said. “I avoid my cousins, and the people in my photography class are a little… too European, for lack of a better explanation. It’s been a lonely six months. This is nice.” His smile made little butterflies burst in Jase’s chest. Damn, what was this chemistry? “Thanks for stalking me into submission.”“Hey!” Ase reached across the table and gave Jase a playful shove. Jase laughed and picked up a menu from the rack at the edge of the table, happy to see one side was in English. A waiter in short-shorts and a crop top came over, speaking heavily accented English as he took their order for burgers and beer.“You’re so white.”“I can’t help you keep bringing me to all the Anglicized joints,” Jase said, with a sniff.“It’s cute,” Ase said. His cocky grin was enough to set Jase’s cock into overdrive. Damn, he wanted this weird, sexy man so bad.The waiter returned with their beer and told them it’d be a moment for their food. Jase enjoyed their contented silence as they sipped their pints and looked at the people dancing on the tiny dance floor in the back room of the bar.“We could dance if you want,” Jase said, using his mug to point toward the dance floor.Ase looked over his shoulder then back at Jase. “Up to you. I think this is fine but if you want to do something else, we can.”“No. No I’m okay with this,” Jase said.“When do you leave?” Ase asked. The thought of going back to his normal life seemed foreign, like bursting a happy bubble. “I fly out early Monday morning. Have to report back to duty that night.”“Where are you stationed now?” Jase really didn’t want to think about it but he answered anyway. “Qandahar.” Ase winced, and Jase really didn’t want to think about it, so he changed the subject. “So, what’s with the leather?”“Oh,” he chuckled. “It was easier to find parking with my motorcycle.”“You ride?” Jase asked, surprised. Though looking at Ase, he totally seemed the type. “No. It’s just for decoration.”“Dick.”“Later,” Ase said, with a smirk and a wink.“I’ll hold you to that.” He was enjoying this flirting, not worrying about letting his curious side free. Though, he was probably going to have to admit, sooner or later, that it was more than passing curiosity since this was not his first time at the penis rodeo.Their food came out soon and they made small talk as they finished up. It was stress-free, talking about Jase’s hometown and plans for when he got out of the Army. Jase had such a nice time, not thinking on anything but good food and great company. Take each day as it comes. Each experience as it comes.“So.” Ase leaned in, smirking. Jase huffed a laugh and leaned in too.“So?”“I’d offer to take you back to my place, but it’d probably be rude since it’s not technically my house. Aside from that, my family isn’t exactly cool with the gay thing.” “Ah, so you’re still in the closet?”“To the family… Yes, for now. Trying to get through school first, not living with family anymore.”“I can definitely understand that.” And how. Jase couldn’t imagine there ever being a time his parents would magically be okay, even if he still liked girls. They’d hear the; “I like guys, too,” part and he’d be as good as dead to them. “So,” Ase said, with a flirty smirk. “Would you care to show me your hotel room?”Jase pretended to think about it, which earned him a swat from Ase. “Say yes, Jase.”“Yes, Jase.”“Good enough,” Ase crowed, slapping down euros on the table and pulling a laughing Jase out of the bar by his hand.
And that's it for this one! I'll be back with more this Sunday! Hope you enjoyed!

Excerpt: Confessions of a Wild Heart
Hey guys!
I'm SOOO excited. (And nervous b/c Ase and Jase gave me such fits) It's almost time for Ase & Jase to come out. So I'm posting the first official excerpt to kick off the promo. Soon, we'll start Snippet Sundays, as well, to tease a bit. I loved writing these guys' story. It's also my longest solo book to date at 80k words (about 280 pages). I'll have buy links as they come. Don't forget to add it to GoodReads [Click Here] . I'm still blown away by the cover art by the awesome Natasha Snow. For those I teased on FB, that's my picspiration model for Ase, too, so I couldn't be more thrilled.
I have to say, the cheering on and encouragement from everyone as I wrote this one, which is a bit heavier than my last couple of books, was amazing. I have THE BEST readers/friends/MMfamily EVER. From my Tweeps to my people on Facebook, to people commenting here on Kaderade: In Your Face. Y'all really made this fun and I'm glad y'all enjoyed angsting with me while I worked on this book.
So a little on this book, so the excerpt and snippets make sense. Confessions of a Wild Heart is told in 3 parts: Wild Heart, Broken Heart, and Freed Heart. The first part is told 4 years previous to the rest of the story in Broken and Freed so it's a bit more like a 6 chapter prologue. Then parts II & III go throughout the 10 months after they meet again and do a helluva dance getting out of their heads and learning to dance together, rather than alone.
So the excerpt you get here is from the 1st Chapter, which also happens to be in Part I so it's set in Germany, where a young PFC in the US Army named Jase Emery is on his first vacation during one of his leaves. (He'd been going home for them all, even when it was a pain, because...family.) There, he catches the eyes (and camera shutter) of another young American student. They spend a brief weekend together and are torn apart by circumstance before being reunited in Jase's home town in Texas 4 years later. But anywho... So here's the excerpt.

Confessions of a Wild Heart
by Kade Boehme(Cover art by Natasha Snow) BLURB:
US Army PFC Jase Emery, on leave in Germany, sees Ase Ramirez for the first time with a camera to his face. Ase’s silly attitude, tattoos, & sexy motorcycle provide a welcome distraction for Jase. But their weekend of fun ends abruptly when Ase’s Catholic, Mexican-American family catch them. Through email, Ase and Jase are able to keep the link open. But that too comes to an end.
Jase was never able to live up to his parent’s expectations like his younger brother was. He didn’t stay and work the family ranch, or marry. He saw the world. His return from serving in the Army changed nothing, he wanted to be free to live his own life. But the death of his father and his mother’s failing health force him to come home, hide his bisexuality, and live a life in the closet as a local Sheriff Deputy so he can take care of his family. This was to be his life… Until Ase returns.
After his family caught Ase and Jase together, Ase worked hard at getting the heat off himself. His occasional thoughts of Jase and their amazing weekend dwindle as life and family take the forefront and fear drives Ase to make huge mistakes.
When Ase and Jase come face to face again, it isn’t easy. Insecurities, and a hurt that have only grown with time make it hard to see the future. Can their friendship blossom into something more? With Ase’s wild side reappearing from the shadows and major trust issues, can he and Jase, with huge obstacles of his own, learn to forgive, move on, and find a peace they both so desperately want… together?
Includes a Stetson wearing deputy living in a glass closet and a toppy bad boy with a lot of drama—and a love of women's clothing—who together just may learn to stop dancing alone.
EXCERPT:
Chapter 1
Jase Emery felt ridiculous for being so ungrateful, so unappreciative of the sights he was taking in. Not one other twenty-one-year-old—hell, not many forty-year-olds—from his town got to see the things he’d seen. And here he was, too concerned with bullshit to enjoy the magnificence of Neuschwanstein Castle. He was too lost in matters he could do nothing about; angry words from back home in Texas. He was usually good at dismissing things. He’d been away most of his four full years and looked forward to ending his final tour of duty before being finished with the U.S. Army and all of Uncle Sam’s rules altogether. He’d kept his head down, left the personal shit back home, and done his job. Of course, now it was all for naught. And he was too upset to think about anything but going back to his hotel room in Munich, leaving his phone there with his bags, and finding distractions in the city. This was his last vacation, his last free time with no family, no drama, no rigid schedules. He damn well intended to enjoy it. Of course, getting back to Munich would require another two-and-a-half-hour bus ride and he’d traveled all this way to see this damn castle, spent the money for the tickets and the tour, so the least he could do was enjoy himself. He’d already missed half the information about the Palas because he’d been staring at his cell phone or lost in thought. He scowled as he pushed the Do Not Disturb option on his touch screen. No more distractions. He followed the guided group outside and took in the beauty of the “nineteenth-century Romanesque revival palace”—according to the tour guide—with its white walls and pointed towers. It really was like a fairy tale castle. He felt a faint smile crease his face as he tilted his head up, soaking in the mild warmth of the springtime sun, enjoying the view of the majestic castle against the backdrop of lush emerald trees and clear blue skies. He’d been in cities or in the Sand Box so long he’d missed clear views and mild days like the one he basked in at the moment. Most of the tour group dispersed, taking photos and chatting quietly. Their respect for the surroundings was nice, as no one was raising their voices above a conversational level, a quiet laugh every once in a while. He was enjoying the solitude and the peace of the moment enough to give in to the small twinge of homesickness. The temps here were much closer to what he experienced back home and the wide expanse of open sky more familiar to him than so many things he’d seen over the last three-and-a-half years. But the homesickness wasn’t enough to drown out the fact he loved each experience he was having on this trip. He was definitely glad he’d finally listened to his friends and struck out on a two-week tour of Europe. He wasn’t sure why the clicking of a camera shutter got his attention. That shutter in particular could easily have been lost to the gentle winds or the tittering laughter around him. Listen to you being all fancy. He laughed at himself, remembering how much it annoyed his dad and younger brother when he used his “ten dollar words.” They’d, neither of them, gone to college and were the type to think you were speaking down to them if you showed you were better educated than they were. Thankfully, Jase’s mother was proud of him, even if he was a snob in everyone else’s eyes. He was just a simple soldier who’d taken a few college credit courses.Jase glanced over to where the camera shutters went off once more, spotting a man with what looked to be a pricey camera held up to his face. Jase frowned at the man. He could very well be taking photos of the castle, but for some reason Jase thought the man was taking them of him.“Sorry,” the man said, dropping his camera. Wow. He was one beautiful man. His skin was a shade too brown to be Italian, but Jase couldn’t tell exactly where he was from. He worked around every ethnicity from Greek to Hispanic, and Munich was no less diverse than the military as far as that went. The man’s black eyebrows were a bit thicker than average, lashes thick and ebony that set off feminine, but beautiful almost-black eyes. The man’s high cheekbones, sharp, dimpled chin and pouting, super-full lips were enough to make him beyond model pretty. Jase found himself tripped up by the stranger, even if the creep was taking photos of him.Wait. That was weird. He continued frowning at the man whose timid smile morphed into a wide, friendly smile. “I get carried away.” The man stepped toward Jase, who eyed him back warily.“Yeah, that’s weird.”Jase didn’t expect the amused laughter that spilled from the handsome stranger. The guy couldn’t be much older than Jase. And where Jase was built solid like, er, a soldier… The stranger was solid but lithe. He wasn’t too thin; just on the far side of too muscular and masculine to be a twink, but not a meathead. Like Jase.“You speak your mind. I like it.” Jase felt a shudder go through him at the not-too-deep, warm tone of the man’s voice. The stranger’s English was clear, obviously also American, though it had that lilt that Jase’s dad—rudely—called the hombre accent. The stranger’s laughter died as Jase got lost in thought, still eying the man. “Oh, sorry. Do you not speak English?” The stranger pantomimed something that Jase couldn’t fathom would ever translate to the question he’d just asked, so he just raised a brow at the stranger. “Ay,” the stranger mumbled to himself, his brown cheeks coloring. “Perfect. Scare the foreigners why don’t you?” The stranger continued talking to himself, smiling and putting his hands up as if to show, I mean no harm.Jase still thought the guy was weird. Who takes photos of perfect strangers? But he couldn’t help laughing at the man’s discomfiture. “Naw, man. I speak English fine. Just not fluent in stalker.”The guy’s shoulders relaxed as he rolled his eyes and smiled again. “I was just—what do the British call it? I was ‘taking the piss’?”The stranger snorted. “So you were.” He held out his hand for a shake. “This is how your people greet one another, correct?” “Was that a dig on my accent?”“A ‘dig’?”“Same as takin’ the piss, man.”“Oh,” stranger said. “Yes. It was. Though I assume handshakes are universal in the western world. Don’t tell my mother I speak white people. She thinks I’m wild enough as it is.”Weird or not, Jase kinda liked this guy. Jase held out his own hand and they shook. “Jase.”The stranger tilted his head back and laughed again, exposing the long column and protruding Adam’s apple. Jase wanted to lick it, damn the man. But he didn’t imagine it was any more acceptable to go around licking guys’ throats here than it was back home. “Well, Jase, my name’s Ase.” Jase raised a brow again. “Seriously?”“Indeed. If that’ll be too confusing, you’re welcome to call me Alessandro, though only my mamiand tia call me that, these days. Much too ethnic for my friends, and Alé or Alex would have been way too easy.”“Ah. So you’re from?”“San Diego. My parents are from Mexico, though. Well… Papi is from Mexico. Mami is from Guatemala.”That would have been one of Jase’s guesses. The Mexican-American part, not the Guatemalan bit. “I’d tell you where I’m from, but you’re taking pictures of me so I’m not sure I should.”Ase narrowed his eyes. “Well, I guess it was awkward to do it without asking. Should have known you’d be an American. With that hairstyle and that posture I’d say military of some sort. You probably think I’m a terrorist.”Jase flailed. “Oh God, I never said that.”“Lucky I didn’t wear a thobe out; I’d have given you a heart attack.”“Hey, now,” Jase snapped. “I grew up in Texas. Some of my friends…” He stopped himself as he realized how that sounded.“You did not just go with the ‘some of my best friends are’ cliche.” Ase sighed, hands on his hips, shaking his head. “Gringos.”Jase felt heat suffuse his face. “I didn’t mean that.”Ase reached at patted one of Jase’s shoulder’s amiably. “Taking the piss, again.”“Touché,” Jase grumbled, relieved he hadn’t offended the man. He didn’t know why it mattered anyways. “And why are we still using Britishisms?”“You started it.” Ase’s smile dimmed, expression growing pensive. “I really do apologize for not asking you if it was alright to take your photo. I was going to give you a copy. You just looked so very relaxed and the sun hit you just right…” He seemed embarrassed to have said as much. “Here,” he said, stepping closer to Jase, lifting his pricey camera, showing Jase the digital display. He flipped through the shots until he found one he liked then tilted it for Jase to see. And damn, was Ase right. The photo was professional quality, so far as Jase knew about all that, and he looked at peace, with a gentle smile, the sun making his blond hair shine. The castle and the blue in the background made the photo look like something from a travel magazine, like there should be an invitation to come visit Bavaria beneath Jase’s still form.“Wow.” Jase heard the awe in his own voice. He couldn’t believe Ase had captured him like that. He rarely considered himself attractive, but that photo really made him preen inside. He had to look at Ase, whose eyes crinkled at the corners, as if he were smiling even when he wasn’t. The fondness he saw there was breathtaking. Was that how Ase saw him? If so, Ase would be the only one.He had to fight the urge to kiss this complete stranger. Instead, he took a full step back, clearing his throat. “That’s great work. Are you a photographer?” He looked anywhere but at the sexy stranger.“No. It’s just been a hobby for years.”Jase was relieved when the tour guide started calling for them to move toward the bus that would take him back to the connection that ultimately would get him back to Munich. He didn’t wait to see if Ase followed or if he was getting on the other bus that was going to the museum and gift shops down the way.He hated how off balance he’d gotten around Ase. He usually was better at covering up his attraction to other men. Yes, he’d slaked his need a few times. He wasn’t a monk. But he’d done it in the confines of a safe place when he needed the company of another man, not the middle of a tour group in Bumfuck, Bavaria, Germany.Growing up, knowing he liked men had taught him the art of self-preservation, and serving his first couple years under DADT had made him even more circumspect. Plus, how was he to know if Ase was interested? Maybe Ase was one of those majorly homophobic Latin-American men. He’d prefer not to get his ass beaten and have to explain why when he checked back in for active duty in three days. The shuttle ride to the depot where he’d catch the bus that’d take him back to Munich was too brief to do much more than dig his return tickets out of his bag. He felt much more at ease one he’d gotten on the bus that would return him to the city, put his phone on airplane mode, and opened his Kindle app so he could settle in for the two-plus-hour ride.
Stay tuned for more!

AND at the end, don't forget to enter for one of two chances to win the ARC or a backlist book :)

Confessions of a Wild Heart
by Kade Boehme(Cover art by Natasha Snow) COMING AUGUST 7, 2015!BLURB:
US Army PFC Jase Emery, on leave in Germany, sees Ase Ramirez for the first time with a camera to his face. Ase’s silly attitude, tattoos, & sexy motorcycle provide a welcome distraction for Jase. But their weekend of fun ends abruptly when Ase’s Catholic, Mexican-American family catch them. Through email, Ase and Jase are able to keep the link open. But that too comes to an end.
Jase was never able to live up to his parent’s expectations like his brother was.

#HAHABT: Keeping Hope
Hi guys! Welcome to my stop on the Hop Against Homophobia, Bi- and Transphobia .
Homophobia. Obviously it’s a strange concept to me since, well, I’m the homo that’s being phobed. I never understood it. I grew up knowing what the people around me thought of gays. Good lord, my dad would see an episode of Will & Grace coming on and he’d complain about how they were “promoting that shit.” He said the same thing about biracial couples, Jews, Catholics… He was pretty equal opportunity, but I digress.
I knew from such an early age that I liked boys. I said Johnathan Taylor Thomas was cute when I was 7, for heaven’s sake. I was ogling boys in tights in the ballet film Center Stage when I was 12, never giving a passing glance to the girls. I “stumbled” on gay porn at thirteen, and it’s like the final pieces of the puzzle fit together when I realized boys could be together like that.
But my being gay since effing birth came from an innocent place well before I even got what being gay meant. Before my being gay was something sexual, something political, something controversial. Before all of that, I was just the 10 year old boy with a stomach-aching, sweaty-palmed, want-to-see-him-smile-all-the-time crush on his best friend Caleb.
Then, my dad said it. Queer. Hell, I still cringe just as fast at the word “queer” spoken with a southern accent as I do “faggot”. In the south, it’s kinda one and the same. I’d never paid any attention to or understood just who these queers were or who those gays were who were promoting their “shit” in such a way that my father took offense. They were the others. Until I realized, oh fuck, They is actually We.
And I officially didn’t get it. Here I was, thirteen, not understanding why my dad thought something was wrong with it. Didn’t he realize I liked boys like that too? What exactly would I be promoting if I simply… existed?
Eighteen, my dad finds out I’m gay. He tells everyone. Yeah, that didn’t go so well. We haven’t seen each other in 8 years, not since the night he found my copy of Eating Out. Damn that cover for looking like porn. Hmph. Guess it’s good he didn’t find the M/M YA I had. His head would have exploded over some of those early ’00s covers, just sayin’.
In those eight years, I’ve also not spoken with my family—seriously my grandmother used the I have friends who can help with this line…seriously—and my mother and I fell out pretty hard over it.
But something fucking amazing happened in that almost-decade. First, I never ran into others who weren’t accepting. All of my friends, no matter how religious or what family they came from, seemed to rally around me. So as a sample of my generation, they seemed to be indicative of a changing tide. Then marriage equality seemed to grow legs, DADT was repealed, DOMA was overturned. My mom made gay friends.
I still catch myself taking a look around the room if my date is forwardly affectionate in public, still hear my dad’s words in my head and reel from the things my mother and I went through. But I can report, it is in fact getting better. I know my experience isn’t the same as everyone. The changes may even be too subtle for people, but the strides we’ve taken in just a decade… Man, how I wept when DOMA was overturned. It gave me hope. Hope that I may actually get to be married and have those things I was convinced by my family I never would.
I like to think a kid born now won’t have the same experience by a long shot. When he’s eighteen and his dad finds out, his dad may flip but maybe, just maybe, they’ll be solid. Maybe he won’t have to go through kids constantly asking him, “Are you gay?” when they mean they’ll kick your ass if you say yes. Maybe homophobia will be a word no one has to even try to understand.
Maybe he’ll hold his boyfriend’s hand and never even think to check the people around him.
Here’s hoping.
And for the record, those gay friends helped. My mom is now one of my best friends. So yeah… hope.
Thanks for reading, guys. Thanks for participating in #HAHABT. It means the world to me, to all of us involved, and I'm so happy to be a part of this.

So here's the snippet. They're sitting around Bobby's house having dinner there for the first time. I love this convo because it's just so... them.
Bobby couldn’t remember anyone ever making him feel special for just being Bobby. Not that people in his life hadn’t treated him well, it’s just that Jody had this easy acceptance of Bobby that he hadn’t experienced before. No need for castles or babies—yet. The thought made Bobby shudder. “What just passed through that head of yours?” Jody asked. “You look like someone walked on your grave.” “I was thinking about kids.” Jody laughed at whatever expression Bobby made—probably one of fear, if Bobby was honest. “Well, I don’t think you’ll be knocking me up any time soon.” “Thank God for small favors.” “So no adopting babies from China. Understood,” Jody said, gravely. Bobby paused, his fork halfway to his mouth. “Is that… Is that gonna be a problem?” Jody’s serious expression melted away pretty quickly. “No. Not hardly. I’ve never wanted kids. No worries about me flushing my birth control.” “You’re an idiot,” Bobby said, fondly. They ate for another moment in contented silence, swapping winks and playing footsy like a couple of lovesick teenagers. At least, this is what he assumed what lovesick teenagers had felt, and he was sad he’d held himself back from feeling that way for so long. For a minute anyway. Because holding out had given him Jody, so far. It was hard as hell to consider that a waste.

So on with the snippet...er...which is actually almost excerpt length haha. Then stick around to check out my It's Mother's Day & I Like Moms Chasing the Rainbow Giveaway. (Yeah. Long title. But whatevs.)
Anywho... In today's snippet, it's right after Jody catches Bobby—who Jody doesn't know is gay, yet—in an awkward position with Jody's mother (it's not THAT bad so stop side-eying me, thanks) and Bobby asks Jody to go have a sit down and chat to clear the air.
Bobby’s face fell, hand resumed twisting the napkin. They sat silently for a beat before Bobby finally spoke again. “That was awkward.”
Jody titled his head in question.
“That. With your… Mother.”
Jody cringed. “Awkward is one word.”
“She’s something.”
“She is that. In my head I think of her like Samantha on Sex & the City. Only Samantha didn’t have all those marriages under her belt.”
Bobby’s face grew contemplative before he responded, “Yes. I could definitely see that. She like that all the time?”
“Pretty much. But she’s good people.” When she’s not cock blocking.
“I was thinking she seemed like a girl in charge. If I swung that way…” Bobby let the trailed off words speak volumes. The way he pinned Jody with his warm but serious gaze made Jody’s hopeful side become all atwitter. Gross, atwitter?
“So… You’re…”
Bobby chuckled and leaned back in his seat, relaxing for the first time since they’d gotten there. “Yes, gay.”
“Oh. Cool.”
One of Bobby’s sexy, full brows went up. Jody couldn’t tell which incarnation of the man he likes more, the bashful, the boyishly brash, the chic businessman, or the guy he’d seen for months now in nothing but jeans, tees, and working boots.
If he was honest, he liked it all.
“So about that, then. You don’t know me all that well. I know we talk a lot, but you don’t know me well enough to completely trust me, but I’m asking you to trust that I would never have done anything like that,” he waved his hand, throwing a bit more accent to the last few words, “to get a client.”
Jody’s felt his eyes widen. “Oh, no. I’d never think that.” He felt Bobby was wrong. The little bits of information over the last couple months of random, fifteen to twenty minute conversations had made him feel like the guy was at least a friend. He didn’t think he knew the guy well enough to loan him his car or anything but he’d consider him a friend, even if not a very close one.
“Good,” Bobby said, visible relief in his eyes. Bobby picked up his candied drink and took a drink before speaking again. “About that book signing tomorrow. You were going to say something the other day.”
Jody’s brows lifted in surprise, pleased Bobby remembered. “I was going to talk to you yesterday but you never showed.”
“Oh, yes. Sorry. I got called to a job in Kip’s Bay. Emergency thing.”
“No, don’t apologize. I just… Yeah. I was going to see if, afterwards, you wanted to do…This,” he said with a flourish of his hands toward the coffee shop.
Bobby quirked that full brow again. “You wanted to leave a book signing at the coffee and book store you work at to have coffee somewhere else?”
Jody looked away from the teasing in Bobby’s eyes. “No, well, yes.”
“Why, Jody. Are you asking me out?”
“It’s just coffee.”
“Well, I accept.”
Jody’s head snapped back in Bobby’s direction. “Really?” His whole body flushed at the lecherous up and down Bobby gave him.
“Oh, yes,” Bobby said, huskily. “I’d been meaning to ask you. Didn’t know if you’d want to be seen with an old guy like me.”
Jody shook his head. “Idiot. You’ve got like five years on me.”
“I thought you were only twenty-five, though that doesn’t really jive what with you and Iz....” Bobby let that trail off, awkwardly
“I look that young?” Jody, said, ignoring the awkward pause. He hated to say he got that age comment more often than not from men.
“Baby face isn’t a bad thing, Joe,” Bobby said, kindly.
“Yeah, well. How old are you?”
Bobby’s expression shuttered a bit, but he maintained kind of you can’t hurt me if you reject me squaring of his shoulders. He recognized the posturing of a younger sibling. Aaron was prone to it when his brothers or Jody found a weak spot.
“Thirty-seventh birthday in three months.”
“Well, you look good. For such an old guy.” Bobby frowned at the tease and Jody couldn’t help bumping Bobby’s foot with his under the table. The glow it made in Bobby’s features was totally worth putting himself out there.
“So we do this?” Bobby asked.
“Wouldn’t miss it.” Jody would have said more but Bobby’s phone chimed.
“Damn. Back to work for me.” They both rose, gathering their things and heading out onto the sidewalk. Bobby turned to Jody. “So tomorrow. It’s a date. We’ll go to dinner. On me.”
The word date made something bloom in Jody’s chest. Or that could be— Holy shit Bobby’s kissing me. Just a closed mouth touch of the lips, Bobby’s hand gently cupping Jody’s neck. Nothing over the top, but a kiss full of more promises than any Jody had ever felt.
Bobby pulled back and grinned lazily. “See you tomorrow.” And with that, he was off.
Jody stood for a moment, still shocked, but tingling from that kiss. “Well, Italian men sure move fast.” He said out loud something his mother had said a few times. He understood now, but he didn’t think he minded one bit.
He touched his lips and smiled. Nope. He didn’t mind at all.
ALRIGHTY! That's it. I even gave you guys the first kiss. Haha. Hope you enjoyed! Can't wait for you guys to read this one! <3
