Sneak Peek Sunday - The One That Got Away - M. B. Feeney (hey, that's me)
Coming soon from M. B. FeeneyA new romance story The One That Got Away
There’s something about that one person we date in our teens, yet never become completely intimate with. What is it about the lack of sex in a relationship that renders us unable to stop carrying that person with us into our adult life?
Heidi Johnson’s one that got away is Shane Hughes. The man she could never quite get out of her head as she got on with becoming an adult, a mother, and her own person. Shane has lived a life of regret. Regret that he let Heidi go out of fear and a misguided sense of not wanting to hurt either of them before leaving London, permanently, a move both of them made over the years.
Reconnecting online, they both rekindle the memories they’d tried to suppress over the years, reignited feelings that were never explored ‘back in the day’. How will a school reunion back in their home town, surrounded by school friends who had seen them at both their best and worst help them answer any unanswered questions they’ve been left with? Or will they be left with wanting more?

Sneak Peek Sunday - The Prodian Journey - Lorenz Font
The Prodian Journey First book of Path of the Guardian Series
A Young Adult Novel
Tarot Card "Wheel of Fortune"
Excerpt Shannon drew the curtain and I found myself trapped in the room, with only Madame Elizabeth as my company for the next God knew how long. I glanced at the woman sitting behind a round table covered with a velvet cloth. A stack of harmless looking cards lay in front of her.“Hello, young man,” she greeted with an elaborate flair of her hand. “Have a seat.”I retuned her greeting with a tight smile then, with great reluctance, sank into the chair opposite her. To begin with, I had no idea what the heck this tarot and psychic crap was all about, except the possibility of predicting one’s luck or discovering what might happen in the future. Remaining silent, I rested my clammy palms on my thighs.“So, what are you looking to see? Love, adventure . . . perhaps happiness?” she queried, spreading the colorful cards across the table in a single sweep. The cards fanned across the surface like fallen dominoes. In perfect sync.“I do—don’t know,” I stammered. A jerk shot through my tight shoulders before I could stop it.Madame Elizabeth’s gaze met mine for a brief moment. Although her eyes were hidden underneath red-rimmed glasses, it was obvious she saw my discomfort, and it put me on the defensive. The woman was stunning in a disturbing way. It felt like she could see right through me, as if she knew my secrets, and that in itself was disconcerting.I studied her while she perused the cards. Her hair was tied in a loose bun on top of her head and she wore a magician type tunic which reminded me of mystical characters. I had the urge to roll my eyes when she began playing the part, momentarily closing her eyes and breathing deep. Hands splayed on the cards, she caressed each one before she finally collected the stack. Shuffling the cards once, she then laid a few back down on the table with quick and precise movements. With utmost concentration, she studied them, choosing one.She flipped the card for me to check. “What do you see?”Considering I had no idea what to look for, I stared at the card. “I see a circle with four distinct colors on the edges.”Nodding, she dropped the card and turned another one. This time, her thin, almost invisible brows furrowed. “With every curse comes a blessing,” she said. The very moment she uttered those words, the hair at the back of my neck rose and I experienced a ‘what the hell’ moment.

Teaser Tuesday
Time for another, unedited, teaser. Not even my pre-readers have seen this bit, so I hope you like it.
Once again, it's from my current WIP (which I believe is almost finished) The One That Got Away. I'd love to hear any thoughts you may have, but remember it is subject to change.
“What the hell happened in London?” I looked at her in shock. “Oh come on. I know you think you’re fooling everyone else, but I know you a bit better than they do.” Did she ever! She’d seen me at my worst after I finally got the balls to kick Shawn out after he’d cheated on me, again. She’d also seen me at my best, usually when we had one of our rare nights out, when I’d let loose and had fun.
“You know. . . I don’t even think I could sum it up properly.” The grin on her face was huge.
“I’ll come with you to pick the kids up, then having dinner at yours. I have a feeling this’ll be juicy.” I shook my head, rolling my eyes. Sophia had this built in gossip radar. I was only surprised she’d not picked up on it sooner. There was no way I’d be able to dissuade her.
“I should have known.” I stubbed out my cigarette and went inside to wash my hands.“You should have told me the moment you got back.” She was actually scolding me. “It’s not very often you give me a reason to want to sit on the floor in front of you, chin in hand, glass of vino, and listen to you talk. Let’s face it, you’re actually quite boring.” I flicked soapy water at her.
For as long as I could remember in the seven years we’d been friends, she’d always teased me about being ‘the sensible one’ out of our circle of friends. The fact that something had happened to me while I was away was like a lottery win to her. I laughed as she made googly eyes at me and blew me a kiss; tonight was going to be interesting, and quite possibly a bit messy. Thankfully, it was Friday and I didn’t have to worry about letting myself have a lie in.
***
Sophia stared at me, a look of amazement on her face for a full five minutes after I’d finished my tale of debauchery. The kids had been fully entertained by her and were now holed away in their bedrooms, reading or watching a DVD in bed.
“I’d say I was proud of you for finally becoming the wildcat I always knew you were. . . ”
“But?” There was a ‘but’ every time she trailed off at the end of a sentence that way.
“Why the hell is this the first time I’ve even heard about this Shane?”

Teaser Tuesday
As stated, this teaser hasn't been edited, other than a look over by a pre-reader or two (Love those ladies), but I hope you enjoy it anyway!
This is from my current WIP, The One That Got Away. It's the first of my stories that will containg scenes of a sexual nature (but not this bit).
A lack of energy throughout the rest of the day meant that neither of us moved much farther that the kitchen to make a drink or out onto the balcony for a smoke.
“You know, I remember being able to go to work for an entire day on less than four hours sleep, and then have a night in the pub.” Ang commented as I emerged from a steaming hot shower.
“Ah those were the days, back when we were young and full of stamina. Getting old sucks.” I towel dried my hair, my back hurting as I bent to reach the underside.
“Wincing a little there. Aching a bit are we?” I’d expected the teasing to happen earlier in the day. “Not as bendy as you used to be huh?”
“I’m plenty bendy I’ll have you know, but it’s not that kind of ache.” I turned around and lifted up my top to show off the scratches on my back.
“Shit. That looks painful.” I sat facing her once more, feeling a little sheepish.
“It’s not that bad; it only hurts a little . . . oh who am I kidding. It kills, but it was worth it.”
“Oh, really?” Ang leaned forward, waving her hand for me to continue talking.
“Nope. No details. I may have enjoyed myself, immensely, but I’m already beginning to feel a bit embarrassed about the whole thing.” I really was. I had never been the type of girl who had one night stands, never mind with someone I knew wasn’t available. The more I thought about it, the cheaper the whole thing became.
“Don’t you dare.” Her voice made me jump. “Don’t you dare beat yourself up about last night.”
“I’m not. . . not really.” I stood and walked out onto the balcony to light a cigarette, my thoughts in overdrive. Had I done the wrong thing by having sex with Shane? “I’m just beginning to regret my actions.”
“Why? He’s the one who’s in a relationship, not you. It’s not like you went to that party specifically to fuck him. Yeah, you wanted to show him what he’d missed out on, but that doesn’t translate to ‘jump my bones’.” I knew she was right.
“I know, I know.”
“Will you at least believe it?” I smiled at her.
“I’ll try.”
“That’s my girl.” She wrapped her arm around my shoulder and gave me a quick hug.I had originally planned to stay in London a second night, but Ang had to pick her kids up early, so I decided to head home. I was looking forward to having a peaceful night at home alone. I was looking forward to a soak in a hot bath and relaxing in bed with a book. Ang and I made arrangements to make sure we met up more often as I loaded my things into the boot of my car.
Ang disappeared back into the block of flats as I pulled away. I stopped at the junction at the end of her street to light a cigarette and to change the CD. Seconds before I was about to start on my journey again, my phone rang. I flicked the switch on the hands-free unit to answer as I drove towards the motorway.
“Hello?” I hadn’t checked the caller display, preferring to keep my eyes on the road, rather than look at my sunshade where my phone was strapped.
“Hey Heidi.” Shane’s voice filled my car.
“Uh, hey Shane. How’s the head?” I’d managed to shift my hangover thankfully, otherwise I’d never have been able to drive.
“Yeah, not bad thanks. Listen, I was wondering if you fancy meeting for a coffee today before I leave to go home.” Images of him pressing me up against the brick wall in the alley flashed through my mind. “I promise not to ravish you against a wall.” We both laughed, something I hadn’t expected to be able to do.
“Okay. Where do you want to meet?”
I'd love to hear your thoughts!
