Second City Signing Spotlight – K. B. Mallion
As you know, I snagged a spot at the Second City Signing in Birmingham, UK in July 2015. I decided it would be great to get to know all the other confirmed authors who will be appearing at the event with me.
I hope everyone will share these posts around and comment on them, wishing each author well. Maybe even some of you will come along to the event to meet us all in person.
Up this week is…. K. B. Mallion
A debuting erotic romance author.
Wife, mother and friend to many.
My mind is a wondrous place to inhabit, far more interesting than the real world.
And now for the interview:
First the ‘business bit’…
1. Tell me about yourself… the usual, age, name, (penname if different – if it is different, explain your choice behind it), location.
My name is Kim Brown (Six Kids Kim to friends) I am 42 with the mind of a 20 year old! I live in Gloucestershire in the UK. My pen name is K B Mallion. The K B, is obviously my initials. However, Mallion is my great-grandmothers maiden name. She was half-french and my nan adored her and I adore my nan. I have always loved the name, so much so, I wanted to name my first daughter it but hubs didn’t like it. So it was destined to become my pen name. It is something so beautifully personal to me.
2. What genre do you predominantly write in? What drew you to that genre?
I write erotic romance. I have tried writing without having any explicit sex scenes in but frankly, I like writing sex scenes. I love writing beautiful filth.
3. How many books to you have on sale right now?
None as yet, my debut novel is to be released in late October.
4. When do you plan to have your next release available? Tell me about it.
I will start writing the sequel ASAP!! Cannot wait!
5. When did you start writing? Was it for fun at first, or did you want to write for publication from day one?
I have written since a teen, mainly poems and verse. I once wrote a novel in my twenties (it will never see the light of day, it’s THAT bad) About three years ago, I joined a social network for writers called Opuss. I began writing poems and short stories again. My confidence grew enough to believe that one day, I could maybe write another story. When I got the idea for my debut novel, it literally opened the floodgates for me. Since then, I have been writing my little heart out. It is one thing to write, it is quite another to publish. I only decided in January that I wanted to be an indie author. I am so glad that I have finally decided to do it. I am absolutely loving my journey so far.
6. When you decided to write that 1st book, what motivated you to keep going?
The love for my characters. As their story developed. I wanted to see their story completed. It was a huge achievement for me. I have the attention span of a goldfish, I never thought I would write a book and really love it. Once ‘The End’ was written, I had no idea what to do next. I didn’t quite know what to do with the finished manuscript but to be honest, knowing that I wrote a WHOLE book! One that I felt truly proud of, was and still is, an incredible feeling. That feeling alone has made me want to write more.
7. Are you a planner or a pantser or a mix of both?
A planner. I plan EVERYTHING…it’s a darn curse!!!!
8. Who is the favourite character you have ever written? Why?
It has to be Jonny Riley. My suave and charismatic A lister in my debut novel. He is the first character that I fell in love with. His voice helped me write a book that for the first time, I truly believe in. For that reason, Jonny will always have a special place in my heart. We have been through a hell of a lot together. There have been many times that self doubt has made me want to run for the hills, but Jonny persisted in hounding me…he wanted his story told.
9. Where do you draw inspiration from?
Anything. Everything. Anyone!! Inspiration surrounds me everywhere. Films, TV, music, books, places and people…even myself!! All my characters are inspired by something or someone, fictional or real.
10. What do you find hardest, naming characters or thinking of an overall title?
I would say the title. You want it to be unforgettable, just like a catchy tune.
Now for the ‘fun bit’…
1. Would you rather have hands for feet or feet for hands?
Hands for feet. Being a tactile person, I could touch everywhere I go.
2. If you could have written any book, what would it be and why?
Anne of Green Gables by L M Montgomery.
I adore this timeless classic. It was the first book I ever read and where I found my first ever book boyfriend, Gilbert Blythe.
3. If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and what would you do with it/
I think I would have a little fun with mind control. Maybe convince Jensen Ackles to spend the day with me. We could go for a ride in Montana, then have a picnic together. We could snuggle on a blanket, singing country songs.
4. If you could start on your writing journey from the beginning, would you do anything differently?
My only regret is not having the courage and confidence to do it sooner. In hindsight, I feel that I just wasn’t ready before. I always wanted to write but never dreamed I would one day do it and want to share my stories with the world….yet here I am, about to do just that!
I believe that everything that has happened, has happened for a reason… my time is now.
5. If someone gave you an elephant to hide, where would you hide it?
In my friends barn. After voddy and cake, we could ride it in her field.
6. When writing, do you need total silence or background noise?
I light a candle and write in silence. No distractions…just my characters voices.
7. You’re having a dinner party, and can invite 5 authors (alive or dead), who do you invite and why?
I would invite L M Montgomery. I would ask, who exactly was her Gilbert Blythe?
Joining us would be Megan Keith, we can talk about Joel Turner whilst eating Tim Tams.
Emma Leech, who has written books that are so breathtakingly full of beautiful mysticism and legend, I just want to cuddle and thank her.
John Steinbeck and John Saul, to even things out with a bit of testosterone and who are also two authors I admire. Of Mice and Men is a story I read over and over as a teenager, I was fascinated by the characters.
Liking a bit of horror, for me, John Saul hits it right on the head.
8. If you listen to music, do you have a specific CD or playlist, or do you live life on the edge and shuffle everything?
I shuffle everything. I have an eclectic taste in music. It also depends on my mood. Sometimes I want to dance around. Sometimes I want to belt out a tune. Sometimes I want to chill. I love music from the 50’s, right up to present day.
If I like a track…I like a track…it doesn’t matter what genre it is.
9. If you could have the experience of reading a book for the first time, which would it be and why?
The Key To Erebus by Emma Leech. Her writing literally pulled me into the fantastical world where vampires, demons, dark and light fae reign. I had never read a book like it before, that is, until I read her second book, The Heart of Arima. Each and every single word carries me to a mythical and beautiful place. I have never emotionally journeyed so much when reading a book. It has a little bit of everything. Emma simply writes exquisite words…end of.
10. Who do you fangirl over? (Doesn’t have to be an author)
Can I cheat and have two? I am always a bit of a rebel, so here goes….. My TV husband is Declan Donnelly (one half of Ant & Dec). I have adored him from the Byker Grove days. I go to BGT every year and have been to watch Saturday Night Takeaway. He is the reason why the idea for my debut novel was ever conceived, following a drunken conversation with friends on my 40th birthday.
My second, is the gorgeous, Jensen Ackles…just because…HE IS JENSEN ACKLES….have you seen him?? *frantically fans oneself
Both of my boys would render me speechless, should I ever meet them.
Finally…
What are your top tips for aspiring writers/authors?
Write what you enjoy. Write from the heart.
Do it every day, to develop and grow your skill. I honestly cringe at some of my writing from years ago, but I keep it all…it shows how far I have come.
As well as writing…read. Your own writing needs nourishment to thrive. There is nothing better than being immersed in another persons brilliant work. Reading is my nourishment. It not only inspires me, it relaxes me. When I am reading, I get sweet respite from my own characters that live inside of my head.
Can you tell us (and maybe tease us) about your latest WIP or next release?
A Famous Affair will be my debut novel, there will also be a sequel to follow….here’s the blurb:
Jessica Neel is a happily married, working mother who is content in life. When she literally bumps into the gorgeous, charismatic and very famous actor, Jonny Riley. Her life is thrown into a passionate and problematic affair. Her life becomes embroiled in a secret entanglement of adultery, love, lies, guilt and tragedy. Will the love for her husband and daughters be enough to resist the charms of the captivating A lister…. Jonny Riley?

What are you hoping to gain from attending the signing in Birmingham?
I am going to walk around in awe, covered in bruises most probably, from all of the ‘pinch me’ moments. I am excited to be meeting my fellow authors, some of who are indeed friends already. The opportunity to meet new blogs and readers will be absolutely incredible. I am a chatty person, so to meet with people who actually want to chat with me, will be like dying and going to chatty heaven.
Thanks for taking part and I wish you lots of luck and oodles of cash at the event. See you there!
I may need a little hip flask of voddy, to calm the nerves you understand!
It will be a pleasure to meet you my lovely.

Second City Signing Author Spotlight – L. A. Cotton
L. A. Cotton
L. A. Cotton has a busy mind in need of constant stimulation. A youth worker from the Midlands, UK, if L. A isn’t immersed in a book, she’s figuring out what course to study next. With an imagination that refuses to stay quiet, early this year, L. A finally decided to put finger to keyboard and start typing. Her first novel, Fate’s Love is due for release September 30th.
When she’s not busy reading, writing, and plotting future books, L. A. is mum to two gorgeous children, and their hyper terrier, Rocky.
Now for the interview:
First the ‘business bit’…
1. Tell me about yourself… the usual, age, name, (penname if different – if it is different, explain your choice behind it), location.
I’m Lianne *waves* I’m 29 years old (we won’t mention that it’s almost the big 3.0). I live in a small town in the Midlands (Shakespeare’s County to be exact), and I’m a mum-of-two. I’m currently enjoying some time out of full time work, to look after my babies. I do have a couple of part-time jobs, but really they just let me fund things like cover designs and author events (wink, wink). I love reading, watching a good film, holidays in the sun, and spending time with my family. I write under L. A. Cotton – I didn’t want to use my birth name, but wanted something close to it!
2. What genre do you predominantly write in? What drew you to that genre?
I’m writing NA mostly, but do have a YA WIP on the back burner. Over the last year, I’ve read a lot of NA and it’s a genre I enjoy and find easy to write (I think).
3. How many books to you have on sale right now?
As of September 30th it’ll be one.
4. When do you plan to have your next release available? Tell me about it.
Love’s Spark will be available December 9th. It’s book two of the Fate’s Love series and features Sharn and Keefer from book one, Fate’s Love. A standalone novel, it is different to book one in that it features both the female and male POV’s. Without giving too much away it’s about two people finding out they have an unexpected attraction. Their timing isn’t the best, their lives are a little messy, and they couldn’t be more different… but sparks will fly!
5. When did you start writing? Was it for fun at first, or did you want to write for publication from day
one?
I started writing at the beginning of the year. Last year was a pretty sucky year for me and my family, so I found myself reading. A LOT! It got to the point where I was spending far too much time (and money) one-clicking, so one day I had a brainwave… ‘hey, you could totally do this’. I didn’t know if I could – if I’d even be able to write a chapter, but 70,000 words later I had a novel. It sounds like the biggest cliché, but I honestly feel like I’ve found my calling.
6. When you decided to write that 1st book, what motivated you to keep going?
The story, the characters, the words flowing out of me. It became my escape from everyday life and I have loved every second.
7. Are you a planner or a pantser or a mix of both?
A mix of both. I plotted Fate’s Love, but wrote it in a very chaotic way (chapters all over the place). With Love’s Spark, I outlined a little and then just started writing. My latest WIP has been a blend of the two – I’ve found some chapters a total surprise – the way they’ve just written themselves, but others I’ve had to work harder at.
8. Who is the favourite character you have ever written? Why?
Probably Ethan (the main guy from Fate’s Love.). Everyone loves an Alpha, but those old school romantics don’t get enough attention in my eyes. Ethan is the kind of guy every mother out there hopes their daughter brings home.
9. Where do you draw inspiration from?
My life, my friends, my experiences, books I’ve read, films I’ve watched, total light bulb moments. Pretty much everywhere!
1. What do you find hardest, naming characters or thinking of an overall title?
Ooh, tough one. I’ve recently had a character naming quandary, so I’ll go with that one.
Now for the ‘fun bit’…
1. Would you rather have hands for feet or feet for hands?
Hands for feet, but does that mean I’d have feet for hands? Icky!
2. If you could have written any book, what would it be and why?
Oooh good question. *Ponders* Possibly Lord of the Rings.
3. If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and what would you do with it?
Fly. Who wouldn’t want to zip off round the world for a day?
4. If you could start on your writing journey from the beginning, would you do anything differently?
I would’ve started writing way back… like as soon as I could write, write. Now I’ve found it, I’ll always wish it was something I started earlier.
5. If someone gave you an elephant to hide, where would you hide it?
In the bath behind the shower curtain, ‘cos that’s where you hide elephants, right?
6. When writing, do you need total silence or background noise?
When I first started it had to be silent, but now I have soundtracks for each project I’m working on, it helps me get in the ‘zone’.
7. You’re having a dinner party, and can invite 5 authors (alive or dead), who do you invite and why?
1. Stephanie Meyer – I’m a Twihard (there, I said it) I have a few loose ends I need tying up.
2. Amy A. Bartol – The woman builds worlds like no other and her Premonition Series is one of my favourites series EVER.
3. Kathy Reichs – I read her books pre-Bones (the TV Series) and again, I have a few questions.
4. Shakespeare – does he count? Anyway, the guy’s a legend.
5. J. R. Tolkein – Hello, anyone with that kind of imagination is bound to hold a great dinner conversation.
8. If you listen to music, do you have a specific CD or playlist, or do you live life on the edge and shuffle everything?
I have playlists for different projects, as well as an overall ‘writing’ playlist.
9. If you could have the experience of reading a book for the first time, which would it be and why?
Inescapable, Amy A. Bartol – I just love this series. The first meeting between Evie and Reed (sigh), the tension, the description, the world building… she just drew me in and kept me there. I can re-read this series time and time again and it doesn’t get old!
1. Who do you fangirl over? (Doesn’t have to be an author)
Honestly? I don’t tend to do the whole fangirl thing. I ‘admire’ lots of authors / celebrities / actors etc. and follow them / their news, but that’s about it.
Finally…
What are your top tips for aspiring writers/authors?
If you want to write then write. And the write some more. And share your work with others, get critiques, feedback, and advice from others. Be precious about your work, but be open and receptive to feedback. Social media (whichever platform you prefer) is vital, and remember what works for one, doesn’t necessarily work for another. There is no magic formula in this business (but if you know one, let me know).
Can you tell us (and maybe tease us) about your latest WIP or next release?
My latest WIP is the first book in a new NA College series (which has four planned books). Here’s a little sneak peek:
Chastity Falls: Book One (unedited and subject to change)
© L. A. Cotton 2014
I hurried to the window and cracked it open. Jackson wasted no time stepping inside and I backed up to the other side of the room.
“Ana, I-”
“You lied.” I said, cutting him dead.
“Let me explain. Please.” His voice pleaded. This was my Jackson. The Jackson I’d spent the last month getting to know.
I hugged myself tight, trying to create some kind of barrier, or hold myself together… I wasn’t sure.
“Everything is so fucked up.” His voice came out calm, but with a defeated edge to it. “I wanted to tell you. Since that first night…”
My head whipped up, as the memory came back to me. “It was you, at the orientation party. You saved me from Braiden.”
He nodded, his lips pursed. “I wanted to tell you… but it changes things. It always changes things.”

What are you hoping to gain from attending the signing in Birmingham?
To meet some author friends and make some new ones. To meet readers, and maybe gain a few new ones. To build my confidence as an author, but mainly to have an awesome time!!!
Thanks for taking part and I wish you lots of luck and oodles of cash at the event. See you there!

Was it for fun at first, or did you want to write for publication from day one?
Now for the ‘fun bit’...
1. Stephanie Meyer – I’m a Twihard (there, I said it) I have a few loose ends I need tying up.2. Amy A. Bartol – The woman builds worlds like no other and her Premonition Series is one of my favourites series EVER.3. Kathy Reichs – I read her books pre-Bones (the TV Series) and again, I have a few questions.4. Shakespeare – does he count? Anyway, the guy’s a legend.5. J. R. Tolkein – Hello, anyone with that kind of imagination is bound to hold a great dinner conversation.
8. If you listen to music, do you have a specific CD or playlist, or do you live life on the edge and shuffle everything?I have playlists for different projects, as well as an overall ‘writing’ playlist.
Chastity Falls: Book One (unedited and subject to change)© L. A. Cotton 2014 I hurried to the window and cracked it open. Jackson wasted no time stepping inside and I backed up to the other side of the room. “Ana, I-”“You lied.” I said, cutting him dead.“Let me explain. Please.” His voice pleaded. This was my Jackson. The Jackson I’d spent the last month getting to know.I hugged myself tight, trying to create some kind of barrier, or hold myself together… I wasn’t sure. “Everything is so fucked up.” His voice came out calm, but with a defeated edge to it. “I wanted to tell you. Since that first night…”My head whipped up, as the memory came back to me. “It was you, at the orientation party. You saved me from Braiden.”He nodded, his lips pursed. “I wanted to tell you… but it changes things. It always changes things.”

Second City Signing Author Spotlight – Frank van der Kok
As you know, I snagged a spot at the Second City Signing in Birmingham, UK in July 2015. I decided it would be great to get to know all the other confirmed authors who will be appearing at the event with me.
I hope everyone will share these posts around and comment on them, wishing each author well. Maybe even some of you will come along to the event to meet us all in person.
Up this week is…. Frank van der Kok
Frank van der Kok is a Hungarian writer, currently living in Netherlands. Author of Fights of Your Life, a fictional memoire.
The book was first released in Hungarian in September 2013 and tells the story of a young woman fighting for her life after a severe car accident. While the story is based on real events from the author’s recent life, the book still remains fictional, showing the events in a subjective manner.
Just recently the English edition became available as well.
Readers of the Hungarian edition commented the book like this:
“Amazing book, just like the key players in it. I laughed a lot at the well placed irony, but I also cried a lot. Fantastic reading”
“While reading this book you will realise how insignificant and unimportant dreams and wishes we follow at times. Those who never had to go through anything similar will hopefully go home and hug their spouse and children, reconsidering their values.”
“I met several people who didn’t want to read this book, expecting it to be a depressing story; a story that would take their joy of life and energy for weeks. But then aftetr finally reading it they changed their views completely. The book gave them strength and faith. And a completely new viewpoint on life.”
Follow Frank van der Kok on the official facebook pages of the book (Eleted harcai & Fights of Your Life) for more details and insights.
And now for the interview:
First the ‘business bit’…
Tell me about yourself… the usual, age, name, (penname if different – if it is different, explain your choice behind it), location.
Hi! I am a 34 year old author. Well, perhaps I should not exaggerate: I have a book out on the market. My name is Frank van der Kok. Which is actually the Dutch translation of my actual name… A Hungarian name, not sure which one would make it more difficult for English readers. Still, I can’t call myself Frank the Cook, can I?
What genre do you predominantly write in? What drew you to that genre?
I published a fictional memoir for now, called Fights of Your Life. I know, I know, memoirs are supposed to be non-fictional by default. Still, mine is fictional. In a sense. I followed a real story. My real life experience. Just with some add-ons. A subjective view. And a message. Making it the fights of YOUR life. Not MY life.
How many books to you have on sale right now?
Proudly promoting one book, the Fights of Your Life. Soon to release a second one! For sure, I intend to sign 2-3 books on the Second City Signing event…On top, I write both in English and Hungarian. So that would make it 4-6 books, right?!
When do you plan to have your next release available? Tell me about it.
Let me give an exclusive appeal to this interview. This has never been shared before. Nowhere. My second book is expected to be out still this year. And the title is… (can you hear the drums?)… TWICE. Twice, as in lightning doesn’t hit in the same place twice. Twice, as in statistics show a person will not suffer 2 major life traumas in a time frame of less than 5 years. Twice, as in the second book of the Fights of Your Life. They will form together a complete story. A complete memoir. Fictional memoir…
When did you start writing? Was it for fun at first, or did you want to write for publication from day one?
Both. I enjoyed every single minute of it. Even if the story is not light hearted. Or rather exactly because the story was not an easy one. Giving myself the challenge to make it digestible to a wider public. A read you can actually enjoy. While taking some personal learning.
When you decided to write that 1st book, what motivated you to keep going?
When you have a clear message and mission, nothing will stop you from delivering it. Not even bad sales. Or negative reviews.
Are you a planner or a pantser or a mix of both?
I do plan ahead. Probably even too much so. Which only makes the events of my books even more difficult. As you can’t plan an accident, can you?
Who is the favourite character you have ever written? Why?
Flower, the main character of my books. A natural, average lady who becomes a heroine. Remaining natural. Average. I just love her. I think readers share these feelings as well. If nothing else, they do appreciate Flower in my book.
Where do you draw inspiration from?
Real life. I look around and write what I see. How I see it.
What do you find hardest, naming characters or thinking of an overall title?
Titles are always difficult. They need to say thousands of words in a single line. They represent your book. They lead, market, sell. Or not.
Now for the ‘fun bit’…
Would you rather have hands for feet or feet for hands?
Now that’s a good question! Never thought of it actually. More hands would come handy for sure. Could help in making the 24 hour day more. As we all try to achieve.
If you could have written any book, what would it be and why?
That’s the beauty of self-publishing. I actually could write any book I wanted.
If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and what would you do with it?
Oh, that’s a long list. Which doesn’t include saving the planet… Rather saving humanity. From diseases. Giving ourselves much more love instead.
If you could start on your writing journey from the beginning, would you do anything differently?
I learnt a lot of course. Not only as a writer, but also as a marketer, salesman, producer, publisher, blogger, and whatever else a writer needs to be these days to sell a few copies. As for the content itself – no, not really. I am happy with the results achieved so far.
If someone gave you an elephant to hide, where would you hide it?
Haven’t you seen my elephant? It’s right there. Just keep reading.
When writing, do you need total silence or background noise?
I work in an open space environment. So learnt how to manage and isolate background noise. Easily applying that when writing as well.
You’re having a dinner party, and can invite 5 authors (alive or dead), who do you invite and why?
Coelho. Would be high time we had a chat finally. A chat that would cover the whole evening. No space for other invitees.
If you listen to music, do you have a specific CD or playlist, or do you live life on the edge and shuffle everything?
Random shuffle. Both in terms of genres and artists. It actually depends on my mood and on what’s going on in my head. Usually quite a lot, sometimes even contradicting, but that’s a different story.
If you could have the experience of reading a book for the first time, which would it be and why?
I always wondered how my own book(s) would seem to me on a first read. Impossible, I know. Still, I keep on dreaming…
Who do you fangirl over? (Doesn’t have to be an author)
I could at best fanboy. I guess. Not sure. So no, I don’t.
Finally…
What are your top tips for aspiring writers/authors?
Keep going. You can’t be liked and appreciated by everyone. Your book will not start selling from day 1. Give it some time. And keep writing.
Can you tell us (and maybe tease us) about your latest WIP or next release?
As already shared exclusively, only here, only now, I write further the story of Flower. In a fictional memoir called Twice. To be released very soon. With unexpected twists and turns. Yet,the expected heavy subject in a light read. Just as we would be sharing our life experiences with each other over an old bottle of wine.

Thanks for taking part and I wish you lots of luck and oodles of cash at the event. See you there!

Second City Signing Author Spotlight - C. A. Ellis
As you know, I snagged a spot at the Second City Signing in Birmingham, UK in July 2015. I decided it would be great to get to know all the other confirmed authors who will be appearing at the event with me.I hope everyone will share these posts around and comment on them, wishing each author well. Maybe even some of you will come along to the event to meet us all in person.
Up this week is.... C. A. Ellis
C.A Ellis lives in Essex with her husband and her two girls. Turning 40 was the catalyst she needed to write her first book, which up until then had been a lifelong dream, so the release of The Vine is officially her dream come true! Her motive to write is readers enjoying her words, a tear being shed, the corners of mouth's being upturned into a smile, laughter being heard and hearts being warmed...And now for the interview:
Questions:
First the ‘business bit’...
Tell me about yourself… the usual, age, name, (penname if different - if it is different, explain your choice behind it), location. I’m Carol Ellis, I’m 42 and I’m from Essex in the U.K. I write as C.A Ellis as that’s my initials;-)
What genre do you predominantly write in? What drew you to that genre? I write Adult Contemporary Romance. I used to read all genres of books but after reading fifty shades of grey, I had such a book hangover and I started looking into similar books, after reading many I had a story in mind and thought hey I’m going to write one.
How many books to you have on sale right now? I have one book on sale right now, ‘The Vine’. It is part of The Entwined in the Vine series, although it is part of a series, it can be read as a standalone, as each book is about a different character.
When do you plan to have your next release available? Tell me about it. My next release is called ‘Jetson’ and it’s the second book in the series. It is due for release early 2015, Jett Matthews is a rock-star that you briefly meet in The Vine, it is his story.I have 3 other book ideas and have written the first chapter for all of them. One more is for this series and the other two are standalones.
When did you start writing? Was it for fun at first, or did you want to write for publication from day one? I’ve always wanted to write a book, and I started The Vine in March last year, it was the first time I ever put pen to paper.
When you decided to write that 1st book, what motivated you to keep going? I wrote the book initially for myself, I was not planning to self publish, it was just a life long dream to write one. So it was a hobby at first but I loved it so much I thought ‘This is what I want to do’, I adore writing!
Are you a planner or a pantser or a mix of both? I write brief scenes and then put them altogether to create the book.
Who is the favourite character you have ever written? Why? All my books are dual pov,I loved writing a character from The Vine Called Katy because she was ballsy and I’m so not like that so it was fun to say all the things I’d love to say but would never dare.I love writing Jett to as he is cheeky, cocky and as hot as you like but with a soft streak underneath.
Where do you draw inspiration from? Many thing but mainly pictures and music, I spend a lot of time on pinterestJ
What do you find hardest, naming characters or thinking of an overall title? The Blurb/Synopsis – Summing up the book in just a few lines, takes me weeks.
Now for the ‘fun bit’...
Would you rather have hands for feet or feet for hands? Hands for feet, definitely need more hands for all the juggling of kids, hubs, house, reading, writing and my other job (Beauty Therapist)
If you could have written any book, what would it be and why? The Thoughtless series by S.C Stephens, because Kellen Kyle in your head can never be a bad thing!!
If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and what would you do with it? Read minds, how interesting that would be, lol.
If you could start on your writing journey from the beginning, would you do anything differently? Yes I would of got it off to the editor quicker, I faffed around with it for months, when I really didn’t need to, just wasted a lot of time.
If someone gave you an elephant to hide, where would you hide it? In the Garage?
When writing, do you need total silence or background noise? Background noise (Music) for ideas, silence for writing.
You’re having a dinner party, and can invite 5 authors (alive or dead), who do you invite and why? Tara Sivec (Funny), E L James (Changed my life), S.C Stephens (Love her), Kim Holden (Makes me cry and C.J Roberts for (craziness) of the dark duet series.
If you listen to music, do you have a specific CD or playlist, or do you live life on the edge and shuffle everything? Always a playlist!!
If you could have the experience of reading a book for the first time, which would it be and why? Fifty shades of Grey, I’d love to read that again as a first time read and plus its changed my life
10. Who do you fangirl over? (Doesn’t have to be an author)
S.C Stephens and now Kim Holden for making me ugly cry over Bright Side, the best book of the year with the best female lead. Cried buckets but felt like I had a life lesson.
Finally…
What are your top tips for aspiring writers/authors?
Get a professional Edit, Write from the heart, take constructive criticism, learn from it and use it next time and don’t try to please everyone it is never going to happen.
Can you tell us (and maybe tease us) about your latest WIP or next release?

I hope everyone will share these posts around and comment on them, wishing each author well. Maybe even some of you will come along to the event to meet us all in person.
Up this week is.... Tracie Podger

Interview with Tracie Podger
1. Tell me about yourself… the usual, age, name, (penname if different - if it is different, explain your choice behind it), location. My name is Tracie Podger, it’s my real name and I’m from Kent, UK. 2. What genre do you predominantly write in? What drew you to that genre? I write contemporary romance. I don’t think I was drawn to any particular genre, I just had a story to write. It happens to feature very passionate people and so it followed that my sex scenes are very graphic. 3. How many books to you have on sale right now? Four with another to be released at the end of this year. By the time Birmingham arrives the Fallen Angel series will be complete, all seven books will be available. 4. When do you plan to have your next release available? Tell me about it. Robert, the next installment in the Fallen Angel series, is due for release at the end of September with a blog tour starting 6th October. 5. When did you start writing? Was it for fun at first, or did you want to write for publication from day one? I started writing in 2009, I think. I wrote a book, A Virtual Affair (to be released September 2015) just for me, to exorcise some demons but the writing took over. As soon as I finished that book, I started the next and I haven’t stopped since. 6. When you decided to write that 1st book, what motivated you to keep going? I wrote at part of my therapy to overcome depression, I’d found something I could get lost in and forget my troubles. That was very motivational. 7. Are you a planner or a pantser or a mix of both? I’m a mix of both. Only in the sense that I write a description of my characters, a family tree and I will research their ‘jobs’. I know how the story ends but other than that, I just start to write and see where the characters and the plot takes me. 8. Who is the favourite character you have ever written? Why? It has to be Robert Stone because he is so complex but a close second is Evelyn. She is a wonderful, supporting character with a powerful story of her own. 9. Where do you draw inspiration from? I draw inspiration from the people I know, people I see on the street and places I’ve visited. 10. What do you find hardest, naming characters or thinking of an overall title? I have to confess to not finding either that hard but the one I think more about is the title. I will normally have the title of the book in my head before I start writing the story. Sometimes the title will change but I can’t write a book without knowing what it’s called. Now for the fun part.... 1. Would you rather have hands for feet or feet for hands? Hands for feet, I might be able to type faster then. 2. If you could have written any book, what would it be and why? Oh, difficult one. Probably To Kill A Mockingbird because I wonder what Harper Lee, the author, had to go through to be able to write that story. 3. If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and what would you do with it? Time travel. I could say I would go forwards a week or so and get the lottery numbers but I would go back in time and tell myself to start writing sooner than I have. 4. If you could start on your writing journey from the beginning, would you do anything differently? No. I have learnt by the mistakes I’ve made. I’ve met some wonderful people, some of whom I consider great friends. 5. If someone gave you an elephant to hide, where would you hide it? I would replace it with the one already standing in my hallway and hope no one could tell the difference. 6. When writing, do you need total silence or background noise? I need silence, other than the voices in my head of course. 7. You’re having a dinner party, and can invite 5 authors (alive or dead), who do you invite and why? Okay, tough one this. Jasinda Wilder because I admire her for the reasons she started her career. John Steinbeck because I love Of Mice And Men and would love to hear how he came to write that book. Ernest Hemmingway for the simple reason, he is my husband’s favourite author and hubby would then have someone to talk to. Mario Puzo to know whether he really spent time with the Mafia and Charles Lutwidge Dodgson to find out what on earth he was taking to produce Alice in Wonderland! 8. If you listen to music, do you have a specific CD or playlist, or do you live life on the edge and shuffle everything? Shuffle, but then I sit there and fast forward to a song I like. I should just make a playlist but can’t be bothered. 9. If you could have the experience of reading a book for the first time, which would it be and why? Another difficult question. Without trying to sound conceited, my own. I write a story, I am excited about this story, I’m sad when I reach the end. But then that book spends months being edited, beta read and edited again, it’s dissected, picked over, it ceases to become the ‘story’ more, the work in progress. Occasionally I like to go back and read them as a reader would, to enjoy them again and feel the same excitement I did when I first wrote them. To read a book as a reader is very different to reading a book as an author. 10. Who do you fangirl over? (Doesn’t have to be an author) Oh, loads of people! Jasinda Wilder is one, Joe Manganiello, my muse for Robert. is rather pleasing on the eye and of course, I’m quite partial to a bit of Gandy Candy. But if Jonny Depp knocked on my front door, I think I would quite easily pass out. Finally… What are your top tips for aspiring writers/authors? Write from the heart. Get your story down and don’t worry about spelling or grammar or structure to start with. Just get it out of your head, that work can come after. Beta readers are a must and not family or friends. Someone you trust to give you an honest opinion and be open to listening to those opinions. Can you tell us (and maybe tease us) about your latest WIP or next release? Fallen Angel Part III will be available at the end of the year. It’s a continuation of Robert and Brooke’s story but in this book we see a development in their relationship that is unexpected. We have a situation that potentially tears the family apart. Give us all your social media links so we can all stalk you (legally and pay you money to do so) I can be found on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/TraciePodgerAuthorOn twitter - @TRACIEPODGER (not sure why that’s in caps but it is!)Or at www.TraciePodger.com (although this is very overdue an update)And if you really want to stalk me, go like my Amazon page - the more likes the more Amazon likes me :) http://amzn.to/1DzMiHN What are you hoping to gain from attending the signing in Birmingham? Second City Signing Author Spotlight - Carrie Elks
Carrie Elks
Carrie Elks lives near London, England and writes contemporary romance with a dash of intrigue. At the age of twenty-one she left college with a political science degree, a healthy overdraft and a soon-to-be husband. She loves to travel and meet new people, and has lived in the USA and Switzerland as well as the UK. An avid social networker, she tries to limit her Facebook and Twitter time to stolen moments between writing chapters. When she isn’t reading or writing, she can usually be found baking, drinking wine or working out how to combine the two. And now for the interview…
First the ‘business bit’...
Tell me about yourself… the usual, age, name, (penname if different - if it is different, explain your choice behind it), location. My name is Carrie Elks. I’m on the wrong side of 21, 30 and um…yeah. My name is a pen name, but it’s based on my real name. My reason for using it? My real name is boring and forgettable! I live in Essex, about forty minutes from London.
What genre do you predominantly write in? What drew you to that genre?I write contemporary romance which occasionally strays into womens’ fiction. I write because I heart love, but I also enjoy an emotional, angsty twist. I write the kind of books I would want to read.
How many books to you have on sale right now?2 books!
When do you plan to have your next release available? Tell me about it.My next book should be available early 2015. It’s a companion novel to my contemporary romance, Coming Down. Called Breaking Through, it tells the story of two minor characters in the first book, and is about the ups and downs of their relationship following the birth of their baby. She’s caught up in mother love, he’s touring with his band. It gets…messy, and I love it!
When did you start writing? Was it for fun at first, or did you want to write for publication from day one?I’ve been writing since I was a child, but more recently I started writing and putting it on the internet, loving the feedback and development I got from that. After getting some exposure, I was approached by an agent. The rest, as they say, is history!
When you decided to write that 1st book, what motivated you to keep going?Reader feedback. I’m not sure I’d ever have finished my first story without it. Nowadays I can complete a book without it, but initially I really needed that help to keep going.
Are you a planner or a pantser or a mix of both?I prefer to plot, but recently I’ve been trying to work on my character development and have found pantsing has helped me do that. For my next book, I hope to do a bit of both!
Who is the favourite character you have ever written? Why?I love the protagonist of my current work-in-progress, and I love her husband just as much. They’re funny, down to earth, and the kind of people I’d like to be friends with. If only they were real!
Where do you draw inspiration from?I people-watch. Constantly. And I’m forever thinking ‘what if’. Those two things combined give me more inspiration than I know what to do with.
What do you find hardest, naming characters or thinking of an overall title?Honestly? I hate them both. My characters often go through three or four name changes during the first draft, and I’ve been known to change the book title almost as often. Next time maybe I’ll run a competition or something—I’m pretty sure my readers are going to be better at names than I am!
Now for the ‘fun bit’...
Would you rather have hands for feet or feet for hands?Hands for feet. I could write two books at the same time!
If you could have written any book, what would it be and why? There are so many books I think this about, but my inner fan girl says the Harry Potter series. I loved them, my kids loved them, hell even my husband loved them and he hardly reads anything. Plus I was born in the same town as J.K. Rowling and it would be great if just one percent of that magic rubbed off on me.
If you had a superpower for the day, what would it be and what would you do with it?I’d do all the housework and chores with the click of my fingers. More time for writing, more time for reading and more time for sitting drinking tea. Total win.
If you could start on your writing journey from the beginning, would you do anything differently?I’d start publishing earlier, maybe in 2011 when it was a little bit easier to get some exposure.
If someone gave you an elephant to hide, where would you hide it?Under my skirt of course!
When writing, do you need total silence or background noise?I can do either—I’m pretty good at zoning out when I need to, and music inspires my writing.
You’re having a dinner party, and can invite 5 authors (alive or dead), who do you invite and why?Jane Austen, George Orwell, J.K. Rowling, Daphne Du Maurier and Virginia Woolf. I suspect poor George would feel outnumbered, and perhaps would be a little bit stutter and embarrassed. But he’d write a great story about it afterwards.
If you listen to music, do you have a specific CD or playlist, or do you live life on the edge and shuffle everything?I love the surprise of the shuffle. It’s living life on the edge ;)
If you could have the experience of reading a book for the first time, which would it be and why?The first Harry Potter. It opened up years of joy for me. Waiting at midnight to buy the next book, hiding away for the weekend while I gobbled it up. It wasn’t just book-reading, I was living the story.
Who do you fangirl over? (Doesn’t have to be an author)Pretty much anybody famous. I’ve only met a couple and get completely tongue tied. It’s embarrassing.
Finally…
What are your top tips for aspiring writers/authors?
Write every day, get as much feedback as you can, and make friends with other authors. When you’re isolated in your house writing, it’s great to have a supportive community online.
Can you tell us (and maybe tease us) about your latest WIP or next release?
My next release is about a hot, gorgeous tattooed Brit singer who’s married to the love of his life. Then they have a baby, and his band starts to take off, making life hard for them all. It’s about fighting for what you love, and becoming the person you want to be. With hot, steamy loving!

Second City Signing
I am pleased to announce that I have secured a spot at the Second City Signing in Birmingham next year. This is going to be my first author event, and while I am so excited, I'm going to be a nervous wreck between now and then.
So... to vary the blog up a bit, as it's feeling a bit neglected, I want to offer all those other authors who will be attending a spotlight. Here, on this blog.
Email me at mbfeeneyauthor@gmail.com and I will send you some questions for an interview which will help me and my readers get to know you better, and to give you the chance to pimp one of your books.
I'm looking forward to meeting each and every one of you!
