Help Support Renaissance Romance Publishing

I will be forever grateful to the wonderful ladies over at Ren Rom Publishers (there's a link to their website in the page tabs) and the huge vote of confidence they have given me by giving me the chance to share my writing with people other than friends.

There is a Facebook group called the Renaissance Romance Publishing Street Team where the authors and the PR team from Jitterbug PR have daily challenges for members to spread the word about upcoming releases, current releases and authors.

If you want to be part of a great team and help raise the profile of this brilliant publishing house, come on over and join in. Currently, there is a draw going on to win an ebook of your choice (remember, Sugarplum Dreams, the anthology I will be part of is released in 32 DAYS!!! - there's going to be another post about this shortly.)

So, if you love good books with good romance, come on over and join in.

Nano - Weekly Post 1 with Teaser

This time last year, I'd pretty much given up on NaNoWriMo as I'd been too busy with assignments for uni, but this year I am free of those for the year. I have informed the other half what it's all about and what I need to do. He's actually been quite good at leaving me alone in the evenings while I write.

Naturally, I spend time with the kids for the few hours between getting home from school and going to bed. I don't seem to be able to write during the day, so I pretend I'm a domestic goddess at this time... sort of.

As soon as the kids are in bed, I'm tapping away, but not always on my NaNo piece. I am far too easily distracted by the various social media sites I have profiles on. But, I have managed 5,137 thus far. The official target for the end of today is 6,667, so I think I can manage it. If there's enough of us over on Skype for a WC (and I close the internet down)

Anyway, here's the teaser for Week 1:

I was always a stubborn child and that didn’t change much as I grew up, well if Uncle Pete was to be believed. I could almost hear his voice saying it as I ripped off my gravy splashed apron and threw it in Joe’s face before I grabbed my bag, my jacket and my tip jar and walked out of his grotty shithole of a cafe.“Sophie, babe.  Who’s gonna serve up now?” He acted as if nothing had happened.“Do it yourself you disgusting prick.”“Come on! At least finish your shift. I’ll pay you double.” I could feel six pairs of eyes as every customer present watched us as if we were on Centre Court at Wimbledon.“Shove your shift up your arse you perv.” I slammed the door behind me, not caring if the glass panel fell out or not.  I shoved my headphones in my ears, pressed play on my iPod and turned the volume up loud as some angry sounding Linkin’ Park pounded into my head, matching my mood.  I lit a cigarette I didn’t want as I stomped along the street towards the bus stop.  What I needed was an Ed intervention.“Sophiekins, what are you doing here? Shouldn’t you be at work?” Ed wrapped his arms around me in his usual greeting.“Work? Ha.” I motioned for him to pour me a drink... a large one.“Why did you walk out this time?” He sighed at the thought of me losing yet another job.“Because, Joe is a filthy old fucker who said the only way I could have the pay rise I asked for was if I gave him a blow job.”

I hope you've enjoyed it and come back next week for another.  Please remember these teasers are UNEDITED, any mistakes you spot will be fixed in December.

Freedom to Fly (Working Title)

This is a picture I found on Pinterest which initially inspired my main character in my NaNo piece.

I was originally going to work on the piece I started last year, but after building up Sophie's character, I decided to start something new ... and Freedom to Fly was born (kinda).

I may post teasers now and then here and on my Facebook page, so I hope you enjoy what I write, even though I have pretty much no idea WHAT I'm going to write.

If you are taking part in NaNo this year, good luck!

NaNoWriMo

I'm starting to get nervous now.  The closer it gets to 1 November, the more I start to get sweaty palms.  Yep, I've signed up for NaNo.

If you're unsure what NaNo is, got check out nanowrimo.org to get the low down, but in "layman's terms", it's the challenge to write 50,000 words in a month.  Either the start of a novel, or a short novel in full.  I've never believed that I had a full length novel 'in me', but who knows, maybe this challenge is just what I need.

I signed up last year, but failed DISMALLY! I had too much going on with uni and what not around the house.  I think it's a little easier this year as Himself (The other half) now is aware of my writing and the fact that it's not that bad.  As usual, I'll only be able to write in the evenings, but I will sequester myself off even more than usual.  I WILL conquer it this year.

If you fancy joining me and the rest of the RenRom gang, whether you are taking part in NaNo or not, use hashtag #RRPNNWM on Twitter and support us all or get added into the Skype group in which we shall be using for WCs (Writing Circles)

Right Click, Love Teaser

This is a small teaser from my Novella which is dues to be released in December through Renaissance Romance Publishing.

The quick blurb is...

Disheartened about not being able to find Mr Right on the London dating scene, best friends Jodie Lynch and Louise Hewson create a blog to not only document their disastrous dates with the numerous Mr Wrongs and Mr OK for Nows, but also to help those going through the same experiences and to see where they’re going wrong. How will they deal with everything the dating scene has to throw
at them - planned or otherwise?

Hope you enjoy...

The pub wasn’t far, which allowed them to walk. Heels clacking on the bone-dry pavement, Jodie and Louise clutched each other’s arms for support.

“It’s times like this that I wish I’d never quit smoking.” Louise fumbled in her bag for a packet of gum. Jodie hadn’t seen her friend so nervous in a long time, but she wasn’t feeling particularly calm herself. She didn’t do well with being thrust into situations in which she had to sell herself. It was bad enough doing so on a one-to-one basis during a date over a few hours; she couldn’t begin to fathom how to do it in just a few minutes. Maybe they could find somewhere else to go and just go on the pull like normal women in their late twenties. Jodie was just about to suggest this to Louise when they arrived. They hovered outside the open door for a couple of seconds before Louise gathered her confidence and took charge, dragging Jodie inside and straight to the bar.

Both women felt instantly better with a glass of wine in their hands; so much so that they dug up the courage to join the queue at the registration desk. It was a surprise to find out that they had to complete an information sheet.

“They do realise we’re not signing up for a dating agency don’t they?” There was a slight hint of panic to Louise’s voice as they handed back their completed forms to the bored looking hostess. Each received a “Hello my name is. . .” sticker before they were led to small table each featuring a candle for atmosphere and a notepad and a pencil for taking notes.

“Way to create an atmosphere. Romance with just a hint of scrutiny,” Jodie snorted as she looked around the room at the other women who had already been seated.

“Oooh. I like that quote. Will work well on the blog.” Jodie watched as Louise scribbled the words down on a piece of paper before folding it and slotting it in her pocket. She rolled her eyes as Louise lifted her glass in thanks.
