Recently, Ian Nuttall noticed a weird message on some of his favorite Chrome extensions…

This extension may soon no longer be supported because it doesn’t follow best practices

He explains…

Turns out, the Chrome team deprecated Manifest V2 and a LOT of apps still use it. If they don’t update, they will be disabled in the next few months.

So Ian scraped the entire Chrome web store and…

I found 84,504 extensions that are outdated spanning a total of 426 million users across them.

I put them all in a Google Sheet so you can filter to find high-potential extensions that have a proven user base and will be a gap in the market when they get disabled.

With this list you can find an abandoned extension with lots of users and:

– Try to acquire them and rebuild on Manifest V3
– Create a new extension to compete and fill the gap in the market
– Build these ideas into an existing extension you have

It all began when Cathryn had only $800 to her name and decided to start a side hustle…

The idea for the Self Journal stemmed from a personal need.

After realizing I had ADHD later in life, I struggled with staying organized. I created the journal by combining frameworks from various personal development books I’d read and putting my own spin on them.

So basically Cathryn figured out a way to manage a personal struggle (ADHD), then created a product to help other people do the same.

We knew we needed VC capital or the product would die, so we manually built an investor list by doing a lot of Googling.

That startup did eventually die but Rashid recognized the value of the investor list they had built and turned it into Angel Match.

Looks like he launched it in 2020 and it’s currently earning $5100 per month

According to this video (9:10) Andreas opted for a freemium model, starting with 100 swipes per run in the free version and more advanced features unlocked in paid tiers…

He seems to have marketed the tool by posting regular updates on Indie Hackers and Reddit, as well as launching on Product Hunt

We got to our first million with just one guy and his assistant dialing one number at a time and manually sending emails.

So nothing fancy.

Just grinding it out one call and one client at a time.

Nikki Glaser Reveals The Art of Roasting

Remember that Nikki Glaser roast of Tom Brady a few months back?

Some highlights on YouTube…

Nikki was already an established comedian beforehand, but that roast took her stardom into the stratosphere

And watching it, it’s easy to think she’s just a gifted joke writer and performer, probably fell out of the womb with a killer punchline.

But listen to what she said in a recent interview …

All these roasts that I’ve done, I’ve always kind of done the same process where I hire a team of writers and I treat it like… if I was hosting the Oscars or something I wouldn’t do it alone… I wanted it to be a collaborative effort. I know that that’s how I’ve done great in the past…

So I instantly assembled a team… [got them to] start sending me jokes… and then I took that set out so many times to different clubs, every single place, and then meeting with writers afterwards in between sets, moving things around, oh let’s change that word… having these really intense discussions… 

So, to prepare for that roast, Nikki hired a team of writers, then practiced and tweaked the material relentlessly in lots of different comedy clubs.
