Book Blitz for Finding Thor by Kai Strand

Finding Thor
by Kai Strand
Release Date: 03/12/15
272 pages
Summary from Goodreads:
Tragedy has left Cara Cassidy broken and the only thing keeping her from giving in completely is her guilt. Until Nik Rock.
Nik stirs up feelings in degrees she has never experienced, and causes her to do things that most assuredly give him the wrong impression – like kiss him before their first date. Somehow, he breaks down the walls around her emotions until she has no choice but to forgive herself and feel again.
But a mysterious, troubled past follows Nik, and Cara may prove to be his weakest link.
When a royal princess shows up looking for Nik, and an international gang arrives looking for missing jewels, Cara lands in mortal danger. Will she be able to save herself? What will happen to her newly repaired psyche if she loses Nik?
Romance, mystery, and high stakes – just another day in high school.
He nodded a polite, though cautious, greeting before walking toward the second break in the shrubs overlooking the beginning of the rapids.
Her heart pounding as fast as the sparrows flitted though the leafless shrubs, Cara faced the river again, not completely comfortable turning her back to him. She was pretty sure he was close to her age, so why did she feel so threatened?
Power. Strength. Assurance.
Even as enthralled with superheroes as she and Arac had always been, she’d never realized those words could be felt. Yet they poured off of him in waves. She glanced over her shoulder. He’d been shrouded by the hood, and she’d barely seen anything beyond his blazing gaze. He stood with his back to her, so she studied him.
His posture was impeccable, with his back straight, feet shoulder-width apart, hands still buried in his jacket pockets. He looked entirely alert and ready. Even though it seemed he watched the water tumble and trip down the rapids, she felt his fierce gaze was directed inward. Focused on memories or thoughts she would never see, though suddenly she wanted to. Mystery teased her curiosity. She sensed this stranger had a compelling story to tell. Or maybe she just hoped for a distraction from her own horror story.
As if he’d heard her reflection, and wanted to hear more, his head shifted slightly, angling toward her. Another shiver shuddered through her body. She had to remind herself that superpowers weren’t real, and still she wondered—hero or villain?

Cover Reveal – The Boatman by Kat Hawthorne
Isabel Wixon is weird. Not only does she see dead things, but her list of friends consist of a talkative ventriloquist’s dummy and the gentlemanly spider that lives in her hair. Real friends? Too hard. Inventing friends is much easier.
Inventing the Boatman—a terrible monster that lures kids into a strange sleeping sickness and never lets them go—probably wasn’t one of her better ideas though.
Kat Hawthorne tends to lurk (somewhat menacingly) in the darker corners of the literary world. In addition to a smattering of published poetry, Kat’s short fiction has appeared in such literary magazines as Underneath the Juniper Tree, Thrills Kills and Chaos, Infernal Ink, Dark Edifice, Shadows Express, Fiction and Verse, and The Rain, Party, & Disaster Society. Her literary novelette, The Oddity, was published by MuseIt Up Publishing on July 11th, 2014. In partnership with Enter Skies Entertainment, Kat wrote the narrative portion of Fearless Fantasy, an online role-playing game published by tinyBuild Games and hosted by Steam. As well as being a nerd of the highest order, Kat is a graduate of Ryerson University’s copy, substantive, and stylistic editing programs and is an acquisitions, line, and copy editor at BookFish Books LLC.

Book Blitz for Alice in Wonderland High by Rachel Shane

Check out the promo event for Rachel Shane’s YA Contemporary Retelling.

Publisher: Merit Press
Purchase: Amazon | B&N
Synopsis via Goodreads:
Sixteen-year-old Alice suppresses her need for rebellion after a petition to start a farmer’s market receives more snickers than signatures. That is until Whitney Lapin, a girl who speaks in cryptic riddles and spends her free time turning abandoned warehouses into beautiful gardens, leads her on a rabbit trail into the underground–aka secret society–of Wonderland High. Curiouser and curiouser.
Even though Whitney’s group of teenage environmental vigilantes operates on the wrong side of the law, Alice has never felt more free to be herself. Soon she stomps on her good girl image by completing a series of environmental pranks to impress them: flooding the school and disguising a pig as a baby in order to smuggle it out of a testing facility. But the group refuses to help with the farmer’s market or reveal their hidden agenda. She wants to trust them, and she especially wants to trust (or maybe kiss) Chester Katz, a boy with a killer smile, a penchant for disappearing, and a secret that will really turn Alice‘s world backwards. When one group member tries to frame Alice for all the pranks, she must figure out their secret before she ends up in front of a jury that’s screaming, “Off with her head!”
~EXCERPT~
The plan had seemed utterly attractive while lying in bed. Foolproof, even. Take the keys. Go inside. Find the information to link someone to the crime. Sole the case. What I hadn’t factored into everything was guts, which happened to be something I lacked.
I paced in front of Town Hall, my heart pounding as if it was ready to escape my chest and ditch me completely. I paused in front of the rows of white rosebushes lining the entrance and took a deep breath.
You’re not breaking and entering, I liked to myself. You have a key.
I counted to three and yanked the keys out of my pocket, but my hands were too clammy. The keys leapt out of my fingers and hit the ground with a metallic clink.
I should go home and forget about Kingston’s stupid-as-hell plan. I tried to move, but my feet wouldn’t budge, weighed down by cemented desire. As scared as I was, I wanted to do this. I fumbled for my phone. 3:10 blinked back at me on the LED screen. If I had Chess’s phone number, I would call him. Accomplices equaled encouragement.
But it wouldn’t have mattered; Chess had refuted Kingston’s idea. So had Whitney. If I called her, she’d try to talk me out of this. I knew what a bad idea it was. I’d broken up with my sense of reason when I first followed Whitney through the woods. Might as well descend even farther down the path of wrong and stupid. I let out a crazy laugh that echoed in the silent darkness.
Morality bites.
Before I could stop myself, I flipped through my cell phone until I found Kingston’s number. It was absurd that Whitney had made me add my least favorite person’s number when I still didn’t have my own boyfriend’s. Tonight, though, it came in handy.
“What?” he said when he picked up. He didn’t sound tired, more like…prepared.
“Hey, it’s Alice. I have a weird question.”
“Wow. Didn’t strike me as the booty-call type.”
My nerves erupted out of my mouth in a laugh that sounded almost flirty. I covered it up with a cough. He was calling me crazy, and this was the first time he made sense. “I’m outside Town Hall.”
“Keys?”
“Yeah.” The word came out all choked.
“Be right there.”
“As soon as I hung up, the gravity of what I’d done hit my stomach like a cartoon anvil. I’d just committed to committing a felony. With my enemy.

EXCERPT
Shocked, I peered around at the hundreds of pictures pasted all over the walls. I could make out every single one in the radiant sunlight shown through the window. Vincent had pictures of me walking along the bay, hanging out with my friends, going to work, at the cafe, with my parents, and even shots of me…naked in the shower.
I felt like a fish out of water. I couldn’t breathe. The layout of the room looked similar too. It reminded me of the spare bedroom in my apartment.
“Bristol! You lied to me!” His voice echoed from the bottom of the stairs.
Getting over the frightening scene, I hurried to lock the door I’d just come through, buying myself some time. Then I sprinted to the other door, unlocking it to scurry outside. I froze as I stumbled into the living room, glimpsing pictures of Mr. Farris and his wife on the table by the tan sofa.
This was my landlord’s apartment on the first floor. Vincent lived with Mr. Farris. How were they connected? How did he get away with having pictures of me covering his bedroom wall without Mr. Farris knowing?
I jumped at the sound of a door bashing in. “Liar!” Vincent’s voice bellowed from the room. “You’re just like Savannah!” I dashed for the front door just as he ran out of the room.
“No!” I screamed, trying to unfasten the chain in time. Vincent grabbed me and tossed me away from the door. I bustled into the kitchen and yanked out a knife from the cutlery block, pointing it at him.
Vincent came up to the island, laughing at me. “You naughty girl. You really had me fooled there for a second.”
“Don’t come closer or I’ll—”
“Or you’ll what?” He smirked. Sliding his hand behind his back, he pulled out a gun on me. “Now, put that down before you hurt yourself.”
