Has 'Penelope' Been Seen Again?

A couple are vacationing in the Sierra Nevadas. One early morning they encounter a crawling pale humanoid. The description is very similar to 'Penelope', a humanoid I've been investigating for many years.

The following account was recently forwarded to me:

"It is my hope to find those who have had a similar experience. Especially in the region of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, on the border of California and Nevada. I'm in the world of broadcast. My eyes are my greatest tool for accuracy and detail. I am an accomplished visual artist and have studied the movement of animals closely since I was very young. I also have been coming to the same camping area for over 40 years, so scouting fish and other wildlife in the wilderness is second nature to me.That is to say, I have exceptional eyesight and I feel I am a better witness to an event than most others. Not only because my keen eyesight, but I also have the ability to keep my calm under extraordinary situations.

Having said that in this instance I have a fellow eyewitness. My wife of 13 years is the most skeptical of people that I know. She would never have believed my story if she wasn't there in the passenger seat beside me that night.

I do not know how to categorize the creature I saw that night. What I saw was very humanoid and that's what is so disturbing. The location was Bridgeport, California at the Twin Lakes Resort. This is a remote fishing lodge high in the Sierra Nevada mountain range.The resort sits in a valley at about 7000 ft and in the shadow of the mighty Sawtooth Ridge. A beautiful secluded spot with no cell phone service and tons of wildlife. The date would have been just after Labor Day 2014 at approximately 5:30 am. We had just finished loading the fishing gear and were headed to the creek for some daybreak fishing.

The creek campground is about a quarter mile from the lake cabin. I have taken this short trip literally a hundred times before and it is always active with nocturnal wildlife, so we are always on high alert for the regulars like mule deer, black bear, jackrabbit, and even rattle snakes on occasion.

This morning was a little foggy and still very dark (the high mountain ridges keep the valley dark from dusk till dawn). I had just passed the small trailer campground as we saw something crossing the road coming in our direction, maybe less than 50 yards away. It looked very light and very close to the ground. It was the size of a large goat but it moved very oddly. I thought 'goat' because quickly I remembered there were sheepherders on the side of the mountain but I hadn't seen them for maybe 30 years. I needed a second to figure out exactly what I was seeing, so I asked my wife in the front passenger seat, "What is that?" pointing at a thing running in our direction that the likes of which I know I had never seen before. I was mostly confused because its limbs were not bending or moving in the right way that a deer, bear, rabbit or cats were supposed to move. My wife could only say slowly because of disbelief, "Whaat Thee Helllll...?"

Now when my lights came across the creature it was crossing the road and we got the feeling we totally surprised it. As I turned on my high beams it seemed to get very irritated as it turned its long human-like neck towards us and almost shook its head as it gave us a glare and started to double time along the road now in our direction. We were getting closer but instead of being able to more positively I.D. the creature I was only more confused, mostly because this thing's legs weren't broken at all it was running on them like that! Long lean limbs but it was crawling! Creeping impossibly low to the ground. It's torso no more than 5 inches from the ground! Yet it was moving at a strangely incredible pace. I wondered first, with such long limbs, why it was so low? And not running on the bottom of hooves or paws. How could it run so fast? The order of the feet landing was completely wrong too, and if it was really trying to retreat quickly it was not bounding or bouncing or swaying side to side. Its limbs moved in unison like a crab or spider. It appeared to me to be a puppet being moved by a marionette,very bizarre. Maybe because I was so puzzled and troubled that I could not classify this animal it kept me from flipping out when we got close enough to see the facial features.

I should describe the features that I saw clearly and up close. As mentioned a human-like torso about 4 feet long, no tail, human-like haunches. As we passed it I saw it was not shaved at all, it was hairless and had pale skin. Its limbs were long. Thin very defined muscle and sinewy. Although it was crawling close to the ground it had large very human/ape shoulders. I've only seen such shoulders on upright walking animals. It seemed to be running on its front knuckles or claws. Imagine a sloth but foot long fingers or claws.The neck was thin and long holding a forward gazing predator head.The skull had features closer to a human/ape than any canine, cat, rodent or cervidae.The skull seemed have a heavy protruding eye ridge, with a flat curve leading to the nasal opening.Then even stranger the mouth. There was no long snout. This was a tight lipped 'human' mouth with a large chin, that almost seemed to grin. But somehow I knew that it was not a friendly grin, almost evil. But how would an animal have an evil grin right? If that wasn't enough to freak us out then came the eyes.

So at first sight my headlight lit this weird thing up and as with all nocturnal animals, the first noticeable thing is always the reflection of it eyes in the car lights. Like all the rest of the many animals I had seen on this tiny stretch of road, their cover was blown instantly. Well not the case this time, and of all the troubling things I had observed this probably is the most unexplainable. I was driving right into it and I could see the eye brow ridge. I saw deep eye sockets, but no shiny large or tiny eyes, just the sockets. As I was sure to peer deep into whatever animal it was eyes as we came within 15 feet of it. Well when the moment of truth came. My wife and I were horrified when all we saw were deep RED sockets! Like the thing had no eyes or there was a red membrane over them.

Well I just about drove off the road and tried to track the thing, but something told me I was better off just watching it run in a cloud of dust into the chaparral. The frigging thing turned its head to look at us, was grinning all with just red eye sockets and it just zips away never breaking its creepy crawl.

So that's my sighting. I never heard of or saw this thing again. And I have no idea what it could of been. Nothing adds up. I really feel I was not supposed to see this thing. People like to say maybe it was an experiment gone wrong or a mutated deformed animal but what I have to say to that is this thing wasn't sick or dying. It was strong, aware, fast and would kick the ass of whatever would mess with it. So if this were a real cryptid someone else must have seen it since this was a campsite. What would it be doing so close to humans if it depended on seclusion for survival? Doesn't add up." ZD

Possible 'Skunka Warakin' Encountered in Madera County, California

A man was house sitting his grandparents' property in Madera County, California. When he decided to go fishing at one of the watering holes, he encountered a creature that resembled a Shunka Warakin.

The following report was submitted to a colleague's email, and then forwarded to me:

"In 2016 I was house sitting my grandparents' ranch in between Madera and Chowchilla, California towards the base of the foothills leading up to the Sierra Nevadas. There is a creek/slough that runs along the back of the property that separates the neighbor's property and my grandparents'. It is thick with bamboo and has always been a favorite fishing spot of mine.

It was late afternoon and I decided to go give it a shot for the first time since water had come back through (the water stops flowing in the winter). I grabbed my fishing poles and hopped on the golf cart and started driving parallel to the slough where our huge pasture meets the beginning of the heavy bamboo thicket.

Coming up on a curve, where the slough bends, I made the curve and immediately slammed on the brakes. I saw some sort of canid standing still, almost as if it was a deer caught in headlights. It stood there and seemed to take note of me but not flee. Almost as if it was not threatened by my presence. It was hunched forward in stature almost like a hyena but not quite. It had wiry dark grey hair and walked in kind of a slinking motion, with its back (I'm estimating) about 5 to 5 1/2 feet off the ground. It surveyed the area for a couple more seconds and slowly disappeared into the bamboo thick. I was perplexed as to what the hell this thing could be as the only known canids in my area are foxes and coyotes. And I had never seen anything like It before.

I became increasingly interested in what i saw and couldn't find much of anything on undiscovered canids sightings in California. But I did find a picture online of what's known as the 'Shunka Warakin' that has a striking resemblance to what i saw that day. From what I've seen, my best guess is that it was some sort of hyena-canine hybrid." CD

Hairy Hominid Incidents in Pennsylvania & Philippines

3 possible Bigfoot / Sasquatch encounters and sighting recalled by the witnesses when they were youngers. Two were in Pennsylvania and the other was in the Philippines.

Here are a few reports from an older database:

"I was staying in the Philippines for a month with an old friend in 2006. We were driving from Pagudpud back to Laoag in the late evening when we stopped to look at something we had seen off the side of the road. This area is quite rural and forested and it's easy to drive on poorly paved roads for a while before encountering another vehicle.

Driving at a cautious speed in the tall, surrounding brush that looked a lot like corn stalks amongst a forest we noticed a large dark figure, well around or over 6'5" rushing through the field. Seeing as I hadn't met a single individual past 5'7" in my time at Laoag I freaked out and my friend slammed on the brakes. We both observed it in silence. It looked at us, not menacingly, but there was just an eerie feeling not knowing what the intentions were of this looming figure that could easily rush at and end us (we were only about 30-40 feet away at that point).

After about half a minute it just turned back into the stalks heading towards its initial direction. My friend and I sat in stunned silence before we composed ourselves enough to give each other a quick "What?!? Drive Away Now." look then continue our panicked journey back. We spoke little of the incident on our trip and haven't told many people aside from close friends because... Asian "Bigfoot/Sasquatch" in the Philippines? Okay. Sure. Go back to sleep. I have never been exactly sure what I saw, it certainly didn't have the face or appearance of a bear. It looked more like a tall, dark, slouched hairy humanoid figure. It was certainly not a man though.

That's my experience. Haven't had a reason to return to the Philippines since then, and don't really want to." PP

"This sighting was in southwest Pennsylvania around the spring of 2004. I was 15 years old and was having a sleepover at my house with two friends. One of my friends lived deep in the woods and needed to be picked up. So, with one friend already with me, my mom drives out to friend's house.

We're all in the car and we all start to smell this horrid stench, like I'm talking dead animal mixed with someone going to the gym daily and not bathing for a week horrid. As we're driving down the road to get on the main road, I turn around and see this massive thing with brown/red hair leaning against an incline to climb up and go into the woods. I turned around and freaked out, telling my mom to stop the car. By the time she found a spot to pull over we were about a quarter mile down the road and whatever it was had vanished. I was the only one who saw it and was made fun of by my friends." LP

"I was staying in a cabin on the border of Pennsylvania and Maryland in the mountains. One day we were snowed in and when your snowed in up there you're stuck. Now, there are plenty of bears and deer up there. We keep salt licks, corn and all kinds of stuff around, not to hunt, but to just feed them.

Well, I walk by the back window which is over the underground garage where we kept snowmobiles and four wheelers. I see this big brownish looking thing in the woods, probably 50 feet from the cabin, just sitting in the snow. I was shocked because I had never really seen a bear there but heard the stories about them being around. So I ran to get my mom to show her and as we walked back to the window, the damn thing STOOD UP. And I don't mean like a bear, I mean like a big, tall man standing up. It then turned around and walked with a huge stride, and took off into the woods. We stood there shocked. What the hell was that?! And my uncle just says "oh that's Squatch.He's a celebrity around here." I don't know if he was just trying to make us feel better by defusing the situation with a comedic remark but after that I never went into those woods alone again." EM

2nd Possible Bigfoot Encounter Near Keystone Ski Resort in Colorado

After reading my post about a possible Bigfoot incident near Keystone Ski Resort in Summit County, Colorado, another witness comes forwards with her encounter near the same location.

I received the following account in response to my post Unknown Night Stalker Along Colorado Mountain Road:

"In the winter of 1983, at about 9:30 pm, while returning from ice skating, on foot across a frozen marsh, my friend and I came across something we could not identify as human or bear or otherwise. We were in Summit County, Colorado, near Keystone Ski Resort. The marsh is situated just south of Highway 6, between Keystone Village (hotel & shopping) and the base of the ski mountain. There was a dirt road through it, going from the lodge to the ski mountain, but no shuttle buses were on that road when this occurred.

As we descended the small slope, below Hwy 6, I saw what appeared to be a man walking parallel to a creek at the bottom of the marsh. There was no path there, so he was walking in snow in the uneven terrain of grass and shrub clumps there.

At the bottom of the slope, there was a small bridge over the creek. I saw him cross the road, and then, I did not see him. When we reached the bridge, to my right, there was a creature covered with snow and initially crouched on all fours beside the semi-frozen creek that ran through the marsh. The creek was always partially running due to warm water runoff at that ski area. The creature had its face to the water and appeared to be drinking from it, not using its hand to scoop water. I thought he might be vomiting, but there were no sounds of retching.

I first believed it to be a drunk person on holiday at the resort and thought we better see if we could get "him" to a warm place so he would not freeze to death, if he passed out. (It was probably about 5 or 10 Fahrenheit degrees that night).

I began asking, “Are you okay?  Do you need some help?” and Laura was asking similar things. Whatever it was, it stood up, like a person. It approached us on its two legs with the "hands" raised in the air. It made moaning sounds, but did not articulate any words. In the light reflected from all the snow around us and a distant well-lit shuttle stop, neither my friend nor I could tell if it was a human or a bear or some other creature, even from a distance of about 10 feet. Laura was probably 5 feet from it at the closest point.

It had hair on its face and head and was just covered in white globs of snow and thus appeared to be grayish-white in color. It kept coming towards us, but did not reach out or grab one of us, though it was near enough to my friend to do so, since it was about 5 feet from my friend, at its closest to us.

It was standing beside the road, initially, so we were on the raised road, about a foot higher than the ground on which it stood. It arced around us to my right, and we turned to continue facing it. It eventually was standing in the middle of the road where we had just come through.

I could not tell if it was an animal all of one color or if it was in a one-piece monotone ski suit, nor could I discern shoes, gloves, hat or boots! I saw no reflection of zippers, if it was a suit.  It looked to be between 6 and 7 feet tall when standing on the road. Its movements were awkward, not fluid, but stiff legged. I did not see the elongated muzzle/snout of a bear, which made me doubt it was a bear. I could see a human face surrounded by hair.

After several rounds of trying to ask it if it needed help, and receiving moaning grunts, and three rounds with my friend, saying, "What is it?" and one of us saying, "I don't know!," we decided to run away! I started running, but went back to grab Laura, to get her feet moving. It stood there staring at us. I turned to look back several times, but the creature had only stepped forward a few feet. It did not run after us, but stood there looking at us. We crossed the bridge, heading south. It remained on the north side of the bridge.

The next day, I went to look for human or animal tracks in the snow, but did not find anything discernible as a shoe print or an animal paw print. The snow was clearly disturbed where this thing had been on all fours by the creek, but there was nothing else there.

To this day, I still do not know what it was and there were no reports of drunken lost holiday revelers, so if it was human, it made it home okay. Also, it had not smelled of alcohol.

Prior to that, I had never heard of Bigfoot reports in the mountains of Colorado, but I did wonder if this is what we saw. In the 1990's, there were reports of Bigfoot sightings in the mountains near Colorado Springs, but that is some 100 miles from where we were. Now, the Bigfoot hotspot of Colorado is near Bailey, which sits on the other side of the Keystone ski mountain, south of where we were.

At any rate, we did not cross that marsh again at night with fewer than four other people! No one else we knew ever ran across it. To this day, neither of us is sure what we saw there.

I submitted a report to BFRO, but I never was contacted by anyone there. This is info I included in my report to BFRO.

It was about 9:30 at night. There was ambient light reflecting off the snow, especially from the bright lights of a shuttle stop about 50-70 yards away to our southeast. The marsh, however, had no street lights or any buildings in it.

I have not been back to this area since 1983. At that time, when we walked to the eastern-most edge of the ice skating outdoor pond at Keystone Village, it gave way to a road that ran between the ski mountain and the village. The road was used by shuttle buses, but was only wide enough for one at a time, I think.  The road ran east into the marsh area, snaking around a little bit.  Just before arriving at the ski mountain shuttle area, the road crossed a little bridge over the creek. I had seen it walking westward along the creek when we were up on the slope heading down to the creek. When we initially saw the creature, it was about 15 feet to the west of the bridge on the north side of the creek.

The marsh area is an open grassy area. To the north of it is Highway 6, but the marsh was somewhat hidden from the road by tall pines along the road. The marsh ran 250-300 yards east to west and was 50-100 yards wide north to south. I think it is a watershed. The creek was more on the southern side of the marsh. It was not always solidly frozen.  I think some warm water draining from the ski area kept the creek thawed, even in normally freezing temperatures.

On the west end of the marsh was Keystone Village (hotel & shopping). To the east, was marsh then buildings related to the ski area. Directly south was the ski mountain and brightly lit shuttle stop, but to the southwest, the marsh met up with the subalpine slopes of the mountainsides.  There was no development there, at the time, for some distance.  The noteworthy things for me, were that it did not smell of alcohol, so I don't think it was a drunk skier.  I did not see a protruding snout, so I don't think it was a bear. It was all one color, if it was human, it was wearing all gray-white clothing with no markings, zippers or normal winter accessories--gloves, hat, boots. But I did not see toes, if it was barefoot.

I was frightened and wonder if this has made for poor observation on my part.

The ski area had many bears, because I often heard tales of folks running into them, especially in the warmer months.  Most stories, however, had to do with humans running across them at the dumpsters associated with restaurants around the ski area and on the ski mountain--at the lodge up on top.

Also, as a child, my family camped at Lake Dillon often in the summer--we spent most summers camping all over the West and Canada. I do not remember any visits from bears at Dillon Lake.

At any rate, I have not heard of any encounters with something like this. I did look at the BFRO website and saw that someone saw something like this in the 1960's, so I thought I should report this one." H

My Abduction Changed Me Forever

I recently published an updated paperback edition of Alien Disclosure: Experiencers Expose Reality through Singular Fortean Publishing. The following account is one of many first hand experiencer incidents that was relayed to me and included in the book. Lon

In November 2011, I received a telephone call from an experiencer who wanted to disclose their abduction. I asked that they compose a narrative and forward it to me. I promised absolute anonymity though I insisted that the locations and dates of the events needed to be published. In turn, I was asked not to edit any of the copy which I eventually agreed to

When I initially talked to the experiencer I asked; “Why are you coming forward with this information?” The general reply was that they considered it an important event and that others should know that these circumstances can occur. They also wanted to make people aware of the long-term consequences that may result from an abduction. All parties agreed that the following transcript could be published:

“On Saturday, November 3rd, 2007, at approximately 8:30 p.m. my life ended. Not literally, but everything I had gained and achieved to that point was taken away from me. Since that day I can only recall bits and pieces of my past but barely enough to independently get by. Fortunately for me, my mom and dad have persevered with me though, without them, I’m not sure if I’d be able to survive on my own. I will attempt to describe what happened to me even though much of my personal history before that day has been provided by my parents and other acquaintances. The remaining information comes by way of my therapist who has extracted and recorded it from the deep recesses of my mind by means of several regressive hypnotherapy sessions. Here we go.

During the evening of that fateful day I had spent most of the afternoon attending campus events at Georgia Tech where I was in my 4th year. I was accompanied by a few friends who, like myself, were Biomedical Engineering majors. I was looking forward to continuing my graduate studies at Duke University the following year. Around 8:00 p.m. we had just finished eating dinner at a local restaurant and decided to go to a friend’s dorm room and watch TV. This is where things get ‘fuzzy.’

I was told (by friends and others) that we were walking on McMillan St., about a block from the friend’s 33 residence hall, when I told the group that I needed to see someone and that I would catch up with them later. The first thing I remember after that point of time is that I was laid back in a large recliner-like chair, but I had no idea where I was. My eyes were open, but I couldn’t see anything other than blurry bright white light. I also felt paralyzed and could not speak. There was no sound other than a low droning that seemed to vibrate all around me. I have no idea how long I was there, but I would wake for a few minutes then dose off again. For some reason I sensed that I had been in the recliner for a very long time. At some period, I woke to a series of ‘chirping’ sounds as well as the sense of something moving around me. I also noticed that I had no sense of smell though I could still breathe through my nose. Again, I would continue to dose off and on. My perception of time was nonexistent. When I would wake, I felt like I just wanted to die because I feared that I would be in this state for the remainder of my life. Anxiety and frustration overwhelmed me, but I couldn’t move or yell for help. This was all I could consciously remember about the incident.

I was found 45 hours later wandering aimlessly in one of the terminals at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport which is on the other side of Atlanta. I had been reported missing by my friends and my parents had already driven from our home in Raleigh, NC. The police took me to a nearby hospital where I was kept for several days. I don’t remember my hospital stay. My parents drove me home to Raleigh after I was released from the hospital. This is where I have remained since.

During the past 4 years I have attempted to regain what I had forgotten but I am not progressing very well. I remembered my parents, my sisters and other relatives and a few flashbacks from college, but little else can be recalled. I have undergone many neurological tests and have been prescribed a few medications, but I still am unable to my past. In fact, I have experienced a few bouts of deep depression and afraid to venture far from home unless someone is with me. I have a tremendous hypnotherapist who has used regression therapy to help me express my feelings during my ‘abduction.’ Yes, that is what my hypnotherapist believes happened to me. I will attempt to describe what my regression sessions produced.

At some period during the abduction I must have been able to see my captors because I provided a fairly detailed description while under hypnosis. These ‘things’ were about 5 ft. tall and had bodies similar to humans. They wore yellow and crimson overalls made of a very thin material. The heads were shaped like humans, but each had pointed chins, small noses and ears as well as a narrow mouth with dark thin lips. The eyes were larger than human eyes and circular with dark pupils, but you could tell when they focused on you because the pupils would narrow, and the eye would expand in size. I never heard them speak but they would emit an odd ‘chirping.’ They had bald heads and no noticeable hair. The skin was translucent with a yellow-green tint. The hands had five fingers with nails, but the thumbs were short compared to humans.

I don’t remember any procedures being performed on me, but I do recall writing answers to questions on a device though I don’t know how I was given the questions; if that makes any sense. Some of the questions were physics equations and others were related to human physiology. Beyond that, I couldn’t recall anything more. I truly believe we are being observed by another species. I don’t know if they are alien or if they have been on this planet longer than us, but I think that we should be concerned. I have tried to avoid feeling sorry for myself, but I cannot stop thinking that I will most likely suffer permanent effects as a result of my abduction. Regardless, I can say that I still possess some hope that I will one day ‘snap’ out of this ordeal and move on with my life.”

NOTE: I had been promised exclusive access if this experiencer was able to recall further information of their ordeal. I had also asked that they keep in contact with me. To this day, there has not been significant progress. Lon

Bigfoot Jumps Into Truck Bed in North Alabama

A few friends in north Alabama are exploring a dirt road and trying to catch fish in a small pond at night. When they were ready to leave, a Bigfoot leaps off an adjacent ledge and lands in the bed of the pickup.

I recently received the following information:

"Lon, I'm getting some real good howls between midnight and 3 am (in north Alabama). I have insomnia from a torn tendon in my shoulder that makes it harder to sleep. Sometimes they are close enough to get the hounds in the area to bark. Like when they're on a hot trail, only they're either tied or fenced in cause they stay put. I have a trail cam and hope I get some good pics to share. If so you'll be first to get a look.

I was out riding in my old truck one night and thought I'd see what some friends were up to. They were looking under the hood of their car. I asked if they needed a ride or anything. They said they had it under control, so I was about to leave when I spotted a dirt road I hadn't seen before. I guess I was always in a hurry. It went to a strip pit and an old coal shaker. I asked my friends if they wanted to check it out. They did.

So we rode down and there were ponds where the pits were. We decided to see if we could catch a mess of fish, so I backed the truck up to the wall of a cliff and they parked close to the water. It was about 8:30 pm when we got there and by 10 pm we hadn't caught anything worth keeping. I told them I was leaving, but they asked me to wait to make sure the car started. As I sat in my truck waiting to hear the car start something huge jumped off the cliff and landed in my truck bed and leaped back out. My window was down and I heard the heavy stomps and it was gone. 3 large strides and this thing had covered close to 25 yards to disappear in the pines. 

At first I thought deer, maybe, but they don't travel on 2 legs. I asked my friends if they saw what happened but they were white as ghost and found it hard to speak at first without stuttering a little. One finally said, 'It was huge and covered in dark hair.' The other whispered, 'Bigfoot.' I thought they were trying to pull a trick on me and was about to get mad. But at the same time 3 rocks hit the ground behind the car and splashed in the pond, then a loud scream came from the pines. We left so fast we almost hit each other's vehicle.

When we got to town we talked about what we saw and heard. When one of them was showing another of our friends what happened he found a footprint with blood smeared in the center of the truck bed. We never told anyone else cause we knew nobody would believe us. Until now I've kept sightings to myself. Since 25 years ago you were crazy and mocked for these stories. Now today Bigfoot and UFOs are being seen and talked about by those who laughed at your stories. All you can say is, 'Now, do you believe what I told you when we were young?'" DB

Unknown Night Stalker Along Colorado Mountain Road

A Colorado man is working at a resort, which requires him to drive equipment along a desolate mountain road at night. When his truck breaks down, he has a scary walk back.

I recently came across the following account:

"I worked at Keystone Resort in Colorado for a few years. During the summers we would set-up for conferences, weddings and things of that nature. A number of weddings were performed at one of the mountaintop buildings that would be high-end dining/cafeterias in the winter and functions in the summer. Imagine mountaintop beautiful wood buildings with huge stone fireplaces and magnificent vistas off of huge wooden decks. Nice places for your weddings if you can afford it.

Anyway, to get to these places required driving along dirt roads that would snake through valleys and then up switchback roads along the mountain until you reached the top and the building in question. Ii was approximately 8 miles of winding mountain roads.

One night we had a quick turnaround, from a conference into a wedding the following afternoon. This required moving lots of tables and chairs out and down the mountain and moving up different tables and chairs for the wedding. So we would have a crew breaking down the previous setup and loading a truck, which would then be driven down to a building that had the other equipment, unloaded and reloaded by the crew there and then equipment driven back up the mountain. I was the one driving the truck.

So here I am driving the long twisty 8 mile drive back up the mountain with my last equipment load. I am about a mile and a half from my destination, which means I am in the middle of the switchbacks that are weaving their way up the mountain. My truck coughs a few times and then shuts off. I try to restart it, but I get nothing. At this point I am pissed. I have no radio and now I have to hoof it to the mountaintop building to radio down for another truck. I get out and start walking.

I get about 100 yards and I hear something off in the woods. A kind of heavy footfall and some brush snapping. I freeze. The darkness is damn near absolute. This road has no lighting at all, just the little light coming from about a quarter moon. That familiar shiver shoots straight from my lower back right to the top of my head. I am straining to hear anything at all, but I don't hear anything. I start to walk again trying to walk very softly and my head keeps moving back and forth trying to catch any slight sound.

I get about another 25 yards and the movement in the woods starts up again, sort of shadowing me from uphill and behind me. There are tingles all through my body, my eyes are like dinner plates and my breath is coming in big gasps. I stop and try and look for any movement at all. The movement in the woods stops again. My brain is telling me "Don't worry. It's a deer or an elk...or maybe a bear. F*ck" My subconscious is screaming "BIGFOOT!"

I am trying to maintain my calm, but calm has left the building. I start walking very fast, trying to discern any sounds from behind me. It doesn't take long. The footfalls and the brush being moved through starts up again as I am moving. And that was all she wrote for me. I haul off, running hell bent on reaching the building and safety before I am slaughtered by the unknown. I hear crashing in the underbrush for about another 15-20 seconds. After that all I can hear is the pounding of my blood in my head and the jolting thuds of my own feet hitting the ground. I have no idea how fast I ran that last mile and a half to the building. I was sure that at any moment something was going to grab me out of the darkness.

I made it to the safety of the building and dashed inside. Everyone there took one look at me and then sat me down and gave me a big drink from the bar. I must have been white as a ghost. My buddies gave me plenty of crap for being scared, but none of them set foot outside to check out my story. They just radioed for another truck to come and get the stuff out of my broken down vehicle and deliver it the rest of the way.

I finished up my shift and got cross-eyed drunk that morning/next day. I've never been so scared in the woods in my life. In case you couldn't tell, I am not an outdoorsy type. I don't hunt or camp. I have no idea what was in the woods that night. My rational side says just a big animal. But my paranoia tells me it was something else.

Never saw anything. Just heard noise. To this day I still think it was probably just an elk or a bear, but try telling that to yourself when you are all alone in the pitch black woods." WB

Loud Roar Panics Camper in Angelina National Forest, Texas

A woman and her husband are camping in Angelina National Forest. Their RV won't start, so she walks toward the ranger station to get help. On the way, she and her dog hear a loud roar that literally creates panic

The following account was recently forwarded to me:

"I had an experience in the Angelina National Forest near Nacogdoches, Texas. But my experience was only auditory not visual.

We were camping at a remote campground in an RV. There were only about 8 camping spots where we were. It was about a mile, mile and a half from the ranger's station. It was New Years weekend.

On Sunday morning the day we were scheduled to go home, the RV would not start. We could get no cell reception because of the tall, heavily wooded area. My husband asked me to walk up to the ranger station to see if we could borrow some tools or see if they knew of a mechanic in the area that worked on RV's. So, I took our dog, and off I went.

About a third of the way there, I got a funny feeling. Like I was being watched. Then my dog, a pit/boxer mix started growling and sniffing the air. He had all his hackles up. I heard a couple of huge snaps in the woods to my left. The dog is now growling like he is about to tear into something. Then came this huge loud roar from the same direction I heard the branches snapping. It was so loud, I could feel it as well as hear it.

When that happened my dog hunkered down and pissed with his tail between his legs. We started running. A few more limbs snapped and my dog tried to hunker down again. So I decided to scoop him up in a fireman's carry and get the hell out of there. Well, that didn't last but a few yards, because he weighs close to fifty pounds and I am a 50 yr. old woman.

Thank goodness about that time, here come the rangers in a pickup. They stopped and I literally threw my dog in the back and told them I needed help. I tried to explain to them about the wood snapping and the loud roar, but it seemed to piss them off. So I just told them we need tools, our RV was broke down. So they drove back to the ranger station and loaded up a toolbox and took us back down to the RV.

So we finally got the thing started and I told him about what happened, and asked him if he heard anything. He said he thought he heard something but was too busy to pay it much mind.

Now I have been camping all my life. I know what a buck deer, or elk sounds like, I know what a mountain lion, or bobcat, or wolf or coyote sounds like. I know what wild hogs sound like. But this sound was none of those. This roaring was loud enough to shake the ground.

I have had that dog for 10 yrs. and have never seen him that scared of anything, ever. He has chased down raccoons, armadillos, possums, and deer, and an 800 lb. steer and never backed down. So what he smelled and sensed was bad enough to make him hunker down." MP

Scary Night Encounters (Possibly Bigfoot) in Oklahoma, Maine & Wisconsin

3 possible Bigfoot encounters reported in Oklahoma, Maine and Wisconsin. Very scary incidents that would make you think twice about going into the woods at night.

"It's late December and there's still ice on the ground in the Kiamichi Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma. A buddy and I decided we wanted to test our new sleeping bags out with our hammocks. We're pretty avid campers. We set off on a four-wheeler trail in the middle of nowhere until we get to this nice little bend in a river with perfect trees to hammock off of. Keep in my that the temperature is probably still in the 20s and we decided to go to the middle of nowhere.

Anyways, the first night is dead silent all night and we fall asleep around midnight. Then we start to hear loud tree knocks and strange vocalizations that wake us up from a dead sleep around 3 am in the morning. This vocalization almost sounds like a pissed off gorilla. We immediately jump out of our hammocks and leave all of our stuff and hightail it back on our four-wheelers in the middle of the night.

You'd think we wouldn't ever go back there, right? Wrong. Instead we decide to "man up" and go back to find out what it was and stick it out another night. Bad decision.

After a few wood knocks and rustling in the woods for the night we uneasily drifted to sleep in our hammocks once again only to be waken a second time. This time by the sound of large rocks, if not small boulders, being hurled into the river beside us. The loud crash of large rocks in the water in the middle of the night woke me up better than coffee. Needless to say we got out of there quick and returned the next day to retrieve our stuff. Haven't been in the woods at night since. And this wasn't my first experience with what I believe to be is Bigfoot." Anonymous

"I live in Iowa but we have a family cabin in Wisconsin on the shore of Lake Michigan. It's located a few miles north of Sturgeon Bay. There are other houses nearby but it's a heavy wooded area.

Last year my wife, oldest daughter and I went up to open the cabin for the year. Most nights we light a fire and sit out by it until around 1 am or a bit later. One of those nights we were out by the fire that was kind of big due to the cold. Me and the wife heard a howl off in the distance that didn't sound like dog or coyote. We shrugged it off until we heard it again about 10 or 20 minutes later, but a lot closer. I went inside to grab my gun in case it was a wild dog or coyote. 

About 10 minutes after that we heard a loud knock just across the creek over by my truck. We were a little freaked out but we didn't want to leave the fire. About 5 minutes after that we heard something splashing in the creek. Then a tree got pushed over just behind us and to the left of the cabin towards the woodpile and the lake. The tree was around 2 1/2 or 3 foot around, no wind that night and it was a live tree. We all decided to go inside and go to bed with my gun next to the bed.

I looked for prints in the morning, but couldn't find anything defined. Some moss was tore up and pushed down in spots. The creek is covered in lots of river rock so there isn't much mud by the creek. That's my story of a possible bigfoot." YB

"I used to live in western Maine in a town called Phillips. I was camping on Lake Oquossoc about 3 years ago, as we were on guided trip. The guides decided to have us practice our search and rescue skills. It took us about 4 hours to find the 2 guides. There was 8 total people in the search party and we were split into 3 groups to cover ground.

One of the parties said they heard something over the radio. Then they said get here fast. We were about a mile away from them but I have never run so fast in the thick dark woods to help someone like that before. We arrived and they said they heard a loud grunt and tree branches snap and there was a terrible smell. Everyone was shaken so badly we waited until morning to discuss it. No sighting just heard something and smelled it, but they were freaked out." DC

Man in the Weeds

A Southern California boy encounters a little bearded man while riding his bike. The man suddenly scurries away into the weeds, never to be seen again.

By Kent McCaman - Back in 1971, I was riding my bicycle on a sunny California afternoon in tranquil Palos Verdes Estates. I stopped my bike at the side of a street to see the view. Downtown Los Angeles was twenty miles north. Immediately in front of me was a narrow foot path worn smooth through a growth of weeds.

Twenty yards away on the path I saw something I didnʼt expect to see. A bearded man stood facing me. He wore a long-sleeved lumberjack-style shirt and blue dungarees. His hair was dark brown. I couldnʼt discern his age. His body proportions were typical of an average fit man. He realized that I saw him. We were motionless looking at each other for probably five seconds. I waved to him. This prompted him to suddenly scurry into thick brush a few feet next to him.

Why didnʼt I expect to see this? Because he couldnʼt have been more than two-and-a-half feet high!

As fast as I could pedal my bike, I rode to where he had been. I called-out, “Donʼt be afraid. I am a friend. My name is Kent. I wonʼt hurt you. Please come back.” But he didnʼt come back.

I looked at the height of the weeds to provide comparative scale in an effort to determine the height of the man that was standing there. Doing so confirmed my estimation of two-and-a-half-feet.

Certainly, this experience is surpassed by everything we are fortunate to read on any day of Lonʼs blog. Still, I write because I have thought about this for several decades and it remains too thought-provoking not to share.
