Cautionary Tale: Hoaxing Bigfoot

A young California man decides to dress up in a gorilla suit and scare people hiking along a trail. He was eventually caught and charged. Cautionary, but amusing, tale.

I recently came across the following account:

"A had a good, although somewhat crazy, friend who was known for spectacular pranks throughout high school and beyond. After we graduated, my friend moved to live with his father in Northern California and would frequently hitchhike between there and his mom's house in Battle Ground.

One day he and his brother hatched a scheme to start a business where they'd do things like hold signs for businesses but while dressed as gorillas (in the 80s, before the sign waver thing we see now, businesses would hire clowns), so they both bought some rather cheap looking gorilla suits.

So, one day my friend called me from Cali to tell me he was hitchhiking up to Washington and to expect him in a couple of days. Fast forward to that weekend, and I get a call from a Clark County Sheriff's Deputy, who asked if I knew <my friend's name>, if he lived at my address (I lied and said yes) and that we should come to pick him up at Battle Ground Lake or he would be taken to jail. He refused to say why or to let me talk to my friend.

I was unable to drive yet, so my mom drove me to the park and we walked into the ranger station. My friend was sitting in a corner of the office and looked mortified and the ranger looked pissed. The Deputy seemed a little annoyed but somewhat amused.

Apparently my friend, when hitchhiking, decided to pack his gorilla costume - as one does - and his local ride told him they wanted to stop at Battle Ground Lake, so my friend decided to end the ride at the park and to call me later to come pick him up, as we lived only a few miles away.

He got bored and had the bright idea to go deep into the woods off-trail and change into the gorilla suit, naturally. He put it on and would jump out onto the trail in front of hikers and would walk around like a primate. What he didn't know was that there was a Boy Scouts event going on at the park, so a minor panic ran through the park that there was a large furry hominid running amok in the park. Some people contacted the resident ranger, who quickly called the Sheriff's department. A deputy was already in the area and incredulously replied and then descended upon the park.

My friend was unaware of any of this and continued this cycle of taking the costume off and pretending to search for the monster with other park attendees and then sneaking off and putting it on again and jumping out of the brush, waddling along in costume.

Finally someone braver than the ranger tackled him and he was hauled off to the ranger station by a small mob of parents.

It didn't help that when the Deputy relayed all of this to my mother and I. I laughed and my mother rolled her eyes, as she knew of my friend's previous shenanigans. The ranger was pissed - "He scared some little kids!" and the Deputy asked the ranger if he wanted to formally press charges, to which he stated that he did.

So we took my friend to my house and my mom scolded him, but was also amused - probably relieved that I wasn't involved.

My friend was charged with malicious mischief and interfering with an arrest for lying about his place of residence (he was terrified that they would think he was a vagrant because of his transient status living between his parents and two stated).

The county judge was somewhat amused and months later my friend's huge fine (something like $900 in late 80s dollars) was mostly suspended pending good behavior on my friend's part.

It sort of calmed my friend down, who had been playing crazy public pranks for many years. By weird coincidence, I believe he's a Bigfoot aficionado now, but I've sort of lost touch with him." R

Lifelong Alien Abduction Incidents Suddenly Recalled by Elderly Florida Resident

A elderly Florida man notices spots on his body when he takes a shower. He suddenly recalls the abductions, past and present, he had endured for over 60 years.

I recently received the following account:

"I woke up around 8 AM on September 29, 2018 and did all my usual chores, made coffee, got the paper and made breakfast. Felt great. I am retired and live in The Villages, Florida. The first day, in many years, that I woke up with no headache.

I went to the shower and as soon as the water hit my skin, spots on my body started burning. Then it all came rushing back to me what had taken place. My first reaction was trembling and sobbing uncontrollably. My wife was at the bathroom sink and ran to me in the shower. She thought I had hurt myself. Then I told her that I was visited sometime during the night by a very tall being with no features that I could see because of the blinding light.

The being was standing in front of me and on each side were two smaller beings that I could not see because when I turned my head they moved it without touching me. They were putting what looked like a half of golf ball size against my side. It had wires or coils hanging from it. They wouldn't let me look down and watch what they we doing. The tall bright one was telling me by mind control, "It is okay, everything will be alright. You will remember or do you remember."

Then my head was moved down to look at a scene I remember when I was 16 years old. I'm now 78. The scene was one of a place I used to go fishing at Keystone State Park in Pennsylvania. I could see the water rippling and blades of grass right in front of me. For years I told everyone back then that I was fishing and must have fallen asleep as I woke up clear on the other side of the park. I remember walking back to my fishing spot and all my gear was there. It puzzled me for years.

When I was in my 50's I had an x-ray taken of my hand and the doctor inquired to what was the thin piece of metal or whatever was in my finger. Since there was no scar he shrugged it off.

Now back to my tall stranger and the two smaller ones. They had put something on my side and at the same time they were doing something to the same finger the doctor had seen something on the x-ray. THIS REALLY HAPPENED! I still break down and start crying for no reason." - Name withheld

Tall 'Stickman Humanoid' Sightings Phenomenon

2 accounts of stickman or slenderman-like entities seen by different witnesses. The descriptions are varied, including running white humanoids, black shadows and, in one case, a crawling being. Very weird.

The following accounts were recently posted on social media:

"My dad, brother and I were playing badminton one evening (early 2020 in southern Minnesota) when my brother tapped me on my shoulder and pointed down our driveway at the field.

I saw what looked like an extremely tall, white, thin, stick figure running through the farm field. It was running (from our point of view) from left to right with a slight diagonal somewhat towards us.

It was running so 'cartoon-y.' It's hard to explain. It was taking overly exaggerated bounds, and it was running FAST. Even though it was 700-ish feet away from us, I could tell it was unrealistically tall and fast. I remember watching it put one leg out in front of the other, and it's arms doing that thing people do when they sprint.

I couldn't see the details because of how far away we were, but it looked like if you were to draw a stick figure. Like Slenderman forgot his suit.

It quickly disappeared from sight when the trees that surround our property obstructed our view. Both my brother and I ran down the driveway so we could keep our eyes on it. So now we stood at the end of our driveway looking around at the all the farm fields but it was just gone. Even with how fast it was going, there was no way it could have gone over the horizon in the amount of time it took us to get a better view.

Eventually my dad joined up with us at the end of the driveway. We told him what we saw and he thought it might have been a plastic bag blowing in the wind. Except it wasn't windy at all, that's why we were playing badminton. But it's not uncommon to see garbage blowing across the farm fields out here.

Is there an explanation for this, has anyone else seen something similar?" - TM

"It was dusk and I was in my 30's videoing my kids playing outside on my phone. It was getting dark, so I stopped the video and looked out past my kids into a small field behind them. I saw a very tall super-skinny Slenderman-type thing all black with long swinging arms, and it was taking big steps but walking toward a tree line in my parent's rural home. It was cartoon-like and stick figure-like in proportions, but walked very fluidly.

I grew up there and never saw this but have seen shadow people, and weird occurrences my whole life there. My sister, who was watching the kids next to me, was looking out at the same area I was. She saw something at the same time, but described it as something on the ground crawling unnaturally. I turned to her to see if she was seeing what I was seeing, and she said "What... was that?" she was just staring, trying to wrap her brain around it. When I looked back, it was gone. I told her what I saw, and she said that's not what she saw but we both saw something at the same time in the same area. I'm more sensitive than her seeing things like this, but this was her first time seeing anything.

She immediately ushered the kids inside, and was very shook. She won't talk about it, she's still terrified. My teen daughter, whom I was filming, said she looked at both of us and our expressions and knew something was very wrong, so she turned to see what we were looking at, but didn't see anything. I will say, it didn't scare me, it was just hard to understand what I was seeing.

That was about 8 years ago. Fast forward to a few weeks ago, my young teen nieces were outside playing at the same house, and saw a fedora wearing shadow on the tree line in the same area. My one niece is VERY sensitive, and saw the full figure of a dark shadow with a hat. The other never saw anything paranormal before and described it as a weird dark figure on the ground. They both said it was very black. I've seen shadow people in the house before, and interacted with one once, not that I wanted to.

Here's the strange thing about all the things I've seen at this house my whole life. Every single entity and mist I've seen inside and outside of the house has been moving in the same direction. Always toward the tree line in this one area by the long driveway. The very weird thing is, several people over the years, who are not believers in the paranormal, have told me they hear deep growling in the same tree line at night when they are alone." BB

MIB Encounter / Abduct Woman in Midland, Michigan

A Midland, Michigan woman has an encounter with MIB after she observe them forcing a girl into their car. The witness was abducted and taken to various locations. Bizarre account, all around.

The following account was posted on the MUFON CMS:

Midland, Michigan

1975-06-01

12:15PM:

I was standing behind my screen door in the front of my home. I saw an old car parked next door with two men dressed in black forcing a screaming young girl into their vehicle. The men saw that I was watching and came to my home. When I saw them coming, I quickly shut the door. I thought to myself, 'had I locked the back door?' They spoke to me telepathically and told me that they could get in even if the door was locked and told me to open the front door, which I did.

They were around six feet tall, had top hats and their skin was greyish. I thought they had wrap around sunglasses on because their eyes were almond shaped. I tried to lead them out of the living room because I had an 8-month-old baby in a car bed there. The next thing I remember was them asking me if I would give them eggs from my body saying that where they came from they needed genetic material from other races because they had reached a point where they were having problems. I told them they could have my eggs but they were to remove my genes from them, that they belonged to my husband.

I then felt intense pain in my abdomen and I screamed. I thought to myself that maybe the neighbors would hear me and call the police. They told me the neighbors couldn't hear me and I realized that I wasn't in my home. All during this time they didn't let me see their faces. I remember fighting them as they were implanting something in my nose. One of them said to another that he put one in my breast too.

The next thing I remember is that I was in a craft and the pilot was having problems with the craft and had landed it in Sag Harbour (Nova Scotia). I could read a sign on a dock that said it was government property and no trespassing. I was told that the government knew all about them. 

When the craft regained power he took me under the water and showed me an underwater domed city. I asked where were all the people. I could see buildings and street lights but no people.

The next thing that happened, I was taken to a mountain that opened up and we flew inside it. I was made to walk down a hallway where there were creatures that they kept locked up. I could hear a man screaming like he was being eaten alive. I asked where they got their people and was told me 'transients.'

Then I was put on a bus where the windows were blocked so I couldn't see out. I was taken to a room where there was an old man standing behind a desk. He informed me that I was going to be seen by a man who would decide what would happen to me. I remember being told that if I told anyone about my abduction or what I had seen that they would hurt my children.

The next thing I remember I was back home behind the door in my living room and I was bleeding vaginally. I told my husband what had happened and we both kept quiet for years. When I told one of my son's wives, my son had a bad attack of shingles and he was only in his early forties. This is my story. - MUFON

6 Ft Tall 'Mantis' Entity Encountered Outside of Fillmore, NY Home

A New York woman had an encounter with a 6 foot tall entity with the mantis shaped head. Since that incident, she believes she may have been abducted because of lost time.

I received the following account after my post the previous day:

"This is in response to your recent post about a mantis-like entity. The incident occurred on June 22, 2018 a bit before 12 AM midnight in Fillmore, New York. I was in the shed to use WiFi for my phone because the kids were on devices and dogs are loud in the house.

While I was watching from inside the shed I noticed something an hour after I was in there. I heard movement of something shuffling in the tall grass. I thought it was a deer until my cat started growling and staring at the shed door. When I scanned the tree line and bushes with my big LED light I thought I saw a head pop up into the dark. I pretended I didn't see it and spotted my light to the left and heard it quickly get closer. I flashed the light back fast and it was very close, now about 30 feet in front of me. We stared at each other for what seemed like forever but I know it was probably only 20 seconds or so. I was so scared I couldn't move. Also it didn't move as I watched it.

I noticed its limbs and features while we stared at each other. It was greenish-grey with very big mantis eyes. The skin was smooth and had broad shoulders, but as you followed down it got skinny. The eyebrow ridge stuck out with a wide head with an upward slant. Its eyes reflected green. There were light green flecks that shown yellow and orange from my light. It was over 6 foot tall.

I suddenly got the feeling that it was going to grab me, so I slammed the shed door and turned and ran to my house. When I got in I told my husband about what I had seen, I noticed that a whole hour pasted by it was now a few minutes after 1AM. I know I didn't look at this thing for an hour. My husband came out with me with his gun but it was gone.

I was really scared after that. I will not be out at night anymore. I always feel like I'm being watched. I started to look into UFOs and abductions. I had never read up on this before my experience and now believe I was abducted, but have no memory of it." HC

Flying Mantis-Like Entity Confronts Villa Park, Illinois Experiencer

An Army veteran, while asleep at his home in Villa Park, Illinois, experiences flashes of bright light coming from the outside. He soon encounters a mantis-like entity while observing it exit an orb shaped craft.

I recently received the following account:

"This incident occurred on April 23, 2012 at approximately 4:40 AM. At the time, I lived in a town house in Villa Park, Illinois, and often sleep on the ground floor in my living room on the couch. I could see both front and back doors, including a sliding glass patio door leading to the back yard. I am a 31-year-old male Army veteran, and lived alone at the time.

Being a former military man, I was and am still a very avid and active supporter of self-defense. During and also after my military service I have always kept a weapon in my home for self-defense purposes. Even sleeping with a weapon (.380 caliber pistol) no further than arms length, in case of an intruder or burglar. Up until this event I was also very skeptical of anything I hadn't seen with my own eyes, especially things related to the paranormal. All of this changed that early morning.

As I slept on my living room couch a strange feeling came across me and awoke me from my sleep in the pitch blackness of the room. As I moved myself to the sitting position, I saw a small flash of yellowish light piercing my sliding glass patio door through the closed tall swaying blinds. At first I didn't think much of it, until only seconds later. I see another flash of light, this time the flash was red and seemed larger. Thinking maybe there was an intruder inside the closed wooden gate of my backyard I quickly grabbed my .380 pistol from the floor near the couch and hurried to look through the blinds. What I saw next changed my life and has affected me mentally until this day.

As I stood at the sliding glass door looking across the parking lot, maybe 60 feet away on the rooftop of the adjacent townhome directly in front of me, was a perfectly round extremely bright orb which could have been approximately 5 to 6 feet in diameter. I couldn't help feeling as if I was being beckoned to come to the door with these flashes of light. After about 10 seconds or so of staring at the bright luminescent orb it had doubled in size and again changed color to yellowish green in a single flash of bright light. Immediately following the flash there was what sounded like a very loud helicopter, if one could have been directly above my house.

At the same time the orb grew something that looked like a large praying mantis mixed with a snake flew out of the orb and straight up. I could see that it had what seemed like a long 3-4 ft tail as it exited what I can only describe as a 'portal' and then the portal was gone. Almost as quickly as it had exited this orb, the being flew directly towards me as the loud sound was ear piercing. The being moved at an extreme speed toward me. It took all of 2-3 seconds to cross the 60+ ft. of parking lot between the adjacent rooftop of the town home directly behind mine, over my wooden backyard fence where it came to a stop directly in front of me no more than two and a half feet, hovering about five feet off the ground.

At this time the creature displayed no lights. It was all black with what seemed like very strange symbols I had never seen before that went across its midsection (torso area). At first glimpse I could only describe this being as a bio-mechanical praying mantis mixed with a snake. It had a small head, long ringed neck but very large in-laid black eyes that extended beyond the sides of its head.

I quickly and carefully looked it over from bottom to top, my jaw stood wide open in awe. Out of sheer terror and the close proximity it was to me, I immediately raised my weapon over my head and pressed it firmly against the glass of the sliding doors. Almost as soon as I had made this motion the creature then extended from both sides what I can only describe as two sets of wing like appendages and emitted what looked like hundreds of tiny blue, sparkling lightning bolts in every direction, above and below each of the 4 'appendages' (I say appendages because if they were wings they didn't seem to be used for flight). The small bolts encompassed and engulf the being completely. At this moment the loud helicopter, static-like sound had completely stopped. Each of these small blue lightning bolt like energy emissions were no larger than my pinky finger. After just a few short seconds of me witnessing these lightning bolt-like electric emissions the entity shot directly up and over the roof of my home at an amazing speed, out of sight towards the front of the townhome.

After much time and thought I've come to the conclusion that this entity did not spread the wing-like appendages and emit the plasma like discharge until I brandished my weapon. This led me to believe that this display must have been some sort of protective energy field to shield itself had I fired upon it. This entire encounter lasted no longer than a few minutes. After the being had disappeared out of view over my home, I quickly ran to the back door and went outside. As I stood there staring into the sky I immediately realized that it had left almost the exact time of dawn because the sun was coming up.

Honestly, I don't like mentioning this part of the account. At that moment I realized that what I thought to be only a few minutes was, in reality, an hour or more had passed because it was now dawn with the sun quickly rising. Until this day, years later, I'm still no closer to an answer of what this being could have been, what it wanted or why it beckoned me to the door with the light flashes. And, most importantly, what happened during that missing hour." - K

NOTE: The witness states that they had made a report to MUFON and another reporting agency at the time of the incident, but never received a reply. He included the image below, stating that the head of this entity was very similar. Lon

Dr. Raymond Keller, a.k.a. “Cosmic Ray,” displays newspaper article from the Toronto, Canada, Telegram newspaper of Tuesday, 14 April 1959, describing amazing flight characteristics of U.S. Department of Defense-contracted flying saucer built by the Avro Corporation of Canada.  Saucer depicted in the article is in sharp contrast to the one published in the United States and tested by the Air Force, that said the Avro disc was a flop and only got a few feet off the ground.  Someone was not telling the truth.  Medallion worn by Dr. Keller is for the Royal Order of Melchizedek, bestowed on members of Dr. Frank Stranges’ Inner Circle, formerly of Van Nuys, California.

Declassified version of the VZ-9 Avrocar as unveiled by the U.S. Air Force in 1958 was nothing like the perfected version revealed by the Avro Corporation in the following year.

Amazing Conclusions

After having examined numerous documents from the period of the late 1940s through the late 1950s, and taking note of the certitude to which the world’s top scientists were disclosing fantastic discoveries regarding the construction of anti-gravity spaceships, I began to wonder if any government or private agency, for that matter, had actually succeeded in building a rocket to Venus, such as Wilbur Smith described in Part XIX of this series.  In Part XX, I will take you inside the workings of the United States government TOP SECRET Project Aphrodite, a program initiated in the Department of Defense in 1948, not long after the preliminary investigations of the crashed saucer at Aztec, New Mexico, revealed that it originated on our cloud-shrouded sister planet of Venus.   For detailed information on the Aztec incident, please see my second book, Final Countdown:  Rockets to Venus (Terra Alta, West Virginia:  Headline Books, 2017), pages 173-188.  But now, the big question remains:  Did they have their own version of a flying saucer all along?

Air Force Investigations

Dr. George C. Tyler, the president of the Colorado Shale and Metal Company, based in Denver, Colorado, was contracted by the Department of Defense for the provisioning of some of the heavy equipment that would be needed in assisting in recovery and clean-up crews from both the Army’s Fifth Group, based out of Colorado, and the Air Force’s Walker Base, that up through 1947 had been known as the Roswell Army Air Field, in dragging the crashed saucer off the remote mesa outside of Aztec and hauling it and any other debris they could find to the Los Alamos laboratories for initial analysis, for subsequent transport to Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio, for further analysis at the technical center situated there.  

Public scrutiny into the elusive flying saucers was intense, with reports of the mysterious objects occupying banner headlines in all the nation’s newspapers on an almost daily basis.  Besides the wide attention given to the Aztec and Roswell crashes, it was also believed that another disc had crashed somewhere on the Plains of San Augustin, also situated in New Mexico, to the south and west in that state, not far from the small ranch town of Magdalena.  Scientists speculated that these three saucers had crashed due to their proximity to nuclear experimentation and testing then taking place in the American southwest.  

In response to all of this hullabaloo over the flying saucers, by late 1948 the Air Force issued a public statement denying the existence of flying saucers as interplanetary spacecraft.  At the same time, the Air Force discontinued its Project Sign flying saucer investigations and replaced it with a new research group, code named Project Grudge.  This organization was designed from its very inception to be much more negatively-oriented in its approach to the flying saucer enigma, hoping that it could somehow buy time for the technical investigators at Wright-Patterson to further delve into the origin and nature of the crashed discs while at the same time putting up a smoke screen for public consumption that effectively pushed attention to the more easily explained sightings as misinterpretations of astronomical or natural phenomena, or better yet, simple hoaxes perpetrated by publicity seekers.  The same young aviation officer that headed up Project Sign, Captain Edward J. Ruppelt, was transferred over to head up the new saucer investigations group.  

It should be noted that the lack of objectivity in the new organization became a bone of contention with Ruppelt, insofar as he admitted that he was given orders to downplay the presence of flying saucers in our skies, dismissing these objects as optical illusions, unusual cloud formations, conventional aircraft seen under unusual circumstances, etc. For further information on this matter, see Ruppelt’s controversial book, Report on Unidentified Flying Objects (London, United Kingdom:  Victor Gollancz, 1956), that details the Air Force captain’s experiences in three government agencies investigating “UFOs,” a term, coincidentally, that he created to replace the more ubiquitous “flying saucers.”   

The Air Force captain also reported that the choice of the word “Grudge” to describe the new project was deliberate.  Ruppelt’s superiors in the higher echelons of the Air Force demanded that the new Project Grudge commander take the initiative in providing more mundane and prosaic explanations for as many of the incoming sighting reports as possible.  Consider Ruppelt’s own words concerning this:  

“On February 11, 1949, an order was written that changed the name of the UFO project from Project Sign to Project Grudge.  The order was supposedly written because the classified name, Project Sign, had been compromised.  This was always my official answer to any questions about the name change.  I’d go no further and say that the names of the projects, first Sign and then Grudge, had no significance.  This was not true; they did have significance, a lot of it” (page 50, Report on Unidentified Flying Objects).  

Ruppelt referred to the Project Grudge era as the “Dark Ages” of official Air Force investigations.  Still, by late 1949, some twenty percent of UFO sightings remained classified as “unknown” by Grudge investigators; and by 1951, according to Ruppelt, some highly influential Pentagon generals had become so disenchanted with Grudge’s debunking that Grudge itself was dismantled and replaced by Project Blue Book, with Ruppelt in charge.  UFO historian Jerome Clark wrote of Ruppelt that, “Most observers of Blue Book agree that the Ruppelt years comprised the project’s golden age, when investigations were capably directed and conducted.  Ruppelt himself was open-minded about UFOs, and his investigations were not known, as Grudge’s were, for force-fitting explanations on cases” (Jerome Clark, UFO Book:  Encyclopedia of the Extraterrestrial (Detroit, Michigan:  Visible Ink, 1998), page 517. 

 

From the pages of science fiction pulp magazines to reality.  Project Aphrodite envisions an atomic rocket ship to the cloud-shrouded planet Venus.  Dr. Keller believes it was actually built and launched sometime in the 1950s, the vanguard of America’s real secret space program. Aphrodite Project Imagined

Even following the publication of the Project Sign report in 1948, however, it became clear in Washington, D.C., centered in the highest echelons of military and political power, that the United States needed to develop an atomic rocket capable of carrying a space probe to the planet Venus.  The Sign panel’s conclusions that the flying saucers emanated from our sister planet Venus, based on an analysis of the crashed discs, was propelling the drive to initiate what would become known in the inner circles of the military-industrial complex as the “Aphrodite Project.”  Hints of this TOP SECRET program were leaked by science writer R. S. Richardson, under the pen name of Philip Latham, in the pages of the June 1949 issue of Astounding Science Fact and Fiction (New York, New York:  Street and Smith Publishers), of which I have an original copy in my Venus files.  Basically, Richardson proposed that the United States should develop and launch a rocket to Venus, whence it would endow the cloud-shrouded but solitary orb with a moon of its own, albeit an artificial one.  This would, of course, be a satellite that we could deploy into a highly elliptic, but extended Venusian orbit.

Venus Prioritized

Personnel in the Department of Defense, worried about the intensive increase in flying saucer sightings around our military installations, were hot on the idea of applying atomic energy to military purpose.  If the flying saucers represented the intrusion of Venusian technology into our skies, what was the intention of our celestial neighbors in carrying out this reconnaissance?  By the end of 1948, President Harry S. Truman had ordered two of the most powerful telescopes in the world to be dedicated to the continuous observation of the planet Venus.  These were the Mount Wilson 100-inch telescope in Los Angeles and the 200-inch telescope atop Mount Palomar to the north of San Diego.  Astronomers on staff at these observatories were sworn to the utmost secrecy in the interest of national security.  Each telescope would alternate days of operation.  At first, nothing was showing up concerning Venus except a blank disk.  But it was soon discovered that certain markings and unique cloud formations would turn up when the planet was photographed in ultraviolet light.  Fortunately, one day the Venusian cloud layer had parted.  This allowed the California Venus watchers to “look at an enormous mountain on the surface” (Richardson).  But more was needed if we were to get a closer observation of the Venusian surface, perhaps espying a city or massive military facility, such as a spaceport.

In order to accurately assess the Venusians’ capabilities, however, the United States had to get a probe in orbit around Venus as soon as possible, with such a remote-controlled device having the capacity to collect, encrypt and transmit the gathered intelligence back to Earth.  Naturally, we had to be careful.  We could not afford to let any of this data get into the hands of the Soviets.  Interestingly, a survey of documents released by the Department of Defense during this critical time reveals the existence of the so-called Smythe Report, officially titled, “Atomic Energy for Military Purposes.”  This document is important because its unknown author speculates that atomic energy can be applied to rocket propulsion.  Just such research was, in fact, being conducted at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory under the direction of the maverick rocketeer, John “Jack” Whiteside Parsons, whom you can read more about in my Final Countdown: Rockets to Venus, pages 64-274, who even claimed to have made contact with a lady from Venus in the California desert.  

There was certainly a need for an “Aphrodite Project” such as the one that Richardson described in the late 1940s.  The idea of sending a rocket to Venus was well within the realm of possibility, as we have seen in all of the preceding articles in this UFO Propulsion series.  Twelve years after Richardson’s initial recommendation, he would declare in another issue of Astounding Science Fact and Fiction that, “Undoubtedly, such an instrument (a space probe) will add greatly to our knowledge of this planet (Venus).  Until such a feat becomes possible, however, we will have to rest content with observations made from Earth in the usual way.”  But now the science writer was covering up, asserting that, “Unfortunately, the clouds have never rolled away to give us so much as a glimpse of the surface below.  Thus, of necessity all of our information of Venus has been gained from without the cloud layer.”

Concerns About Soviets’ Venus Research

Concern about Venus investigations in the Soviet Union were also expressed by Richardson; but remember that this was six years before the United States Air Force’s Project White Stork revelations about the search for extraterrestrial life in the solar system and beyond by Soviet scientists, as fully detailed in my Final Countdown:  Rockets to Venus, pages 94-227.  But by 1960, Richardson states that he was cognizant that, “Some of the most important of the recent papers on Venus have been in Russian and hence have received little more than scant mention….”  And of these papers, he notes that, “They are mostly by Dr. N. A. Kosyrev of the Crimean Observatory who startled the world about a year ago with the observation of what he called a ‘volcanic process’ in the lunar crater Alphonsus.”  Thus, buoyed by the accomplishments that Kosyrev made regarding the Moon, Richardson comments that, “His observations of Venus are genuinely interesting if not so spectacular in nature.”

What Kosyrev’s study of the Alphonsus crater revealed was that our Moon remains geologically active; and what he discovered about Venus was so startling that it would forever change the way in which his fellow Russians would consider our sister world in level or prioritization for funding and further space research in the most powerful of all communist nations.  

Early Hints of the Real Secret Space Program

My contention is that all of the certain pronouncements made by sundry scientists about the introduction of atomic energy to facilitate the creation of interplanetary, anti-gravity spaceships in the mid-to-late 1950s were hints being dropped as to the existence of a such operational aerospace platforms and the beginnings of a real secret space program.

8-Foot-Tall 'Reptilian-Like' Creatures Reported in Perryopolis, PA Woods

A man is Perryopolis, PA claims that there are 8-foot-tall Reptilian-like creatures inhabiting the woods near is house. There had been several incidents up until at least 2-25-2018, when the report was submitted.

The following account was listed on the MUFON CMS:

Perryopolis, PA

I am writing this for a friend, who now wears a bullet proof vest and carries a gun everyday because of this encounter.

He said that there are eight foot tall creatures resembling Reptilian type beings surrounding his house at night. They get into his head and communicate strange things like stuff about end of civilization stuff and that only a small group will survive. Sometimes they get physical and then there is loss of consciousness  They mimic his voice when he yells out into the woods at them. It starts off sounding strange and they repeat it over and over until they get it right exactly duplicated until it gives him the chills and goosebumps.

He shoots at them and then a light smacks the bullets out of the air. When the light hits the bullets it makes a loud slapping noise. He finds the bullets in the yard in the morning. Some bullets are perfectly shaped and some are flat like they have been ran over on a train track.

Since the guns and bullets don't work he tried using a knife. He was able to stab one and it yelled. He used a bear trap once. It snapped shut and the thing screamed. The trap was gone in the morning . There is so much to this story that I don't know and can't remember. But he wants an interview and some help.

They don't seem to be able to come into the house for some reason. Humans might be working with them also. At this same time that these incidents were taking place, someone shot his dog. The dog was placed in a box and left at his front door of his house with a note 'DONT FORGET.' It sounds sort of like 'Mothman Prophecy' stuff to me. Strange.

The only way he sees himself actually being able to kill one of these creatures is by stabbing it while it is dragging you away and hopefully it bleeds out before it takes you to where it wants to go.

There is so much more to this story that only he knows, and is willing to tell all. He just wants to find out how to get rid of these creatures out of his woods. - MUFON

The 'Yucca Man': Reported Sightings & Encounters

A couple encountered a pair of quadruped hairy creatures with 'human faces' cross the road in front of them. The creatures were in perfect sync and has a pack of wolves accompanying them.

I recently received the following 'Yucca Man' account:

"This encounter happened to my aunt and uncle around the early 1990s in the desert town of Yucca Valley, CA. They have given me full consent to relay her 'Yucca Man' encounter.

My aunt Deborah and uncle Tom were driving home around dusk and while at a stop sign, a block away from were she lived at the time, two enormous hairy creatures crossed right in front of her truck. They both walking in perfect sync and unison with each other (she said you could feel the earth shake with every step they took which were more like "stomps" instead of steps).

When they got in front of her truck they both turned their heads at them, also in perfect sequence with each other, stared briefly then turned their heads back forward and kept marching on into the desert vast wasteland. This is where the border between suburban neighborhood and a desert wilderness with nothing but dirt roads exists.

Another detail to add is that there were a pack of stray dogs that accompanied them, as if they were posing as the Alpha dogs of a make-shift wolf pack which adds another bizarre twist to what's already unbelievable. Also, another big detail in their description is that they had "human faces" and walked on four legs. My uncle said that he was afraid that these things would and very well could flip the car over effortlessly considering their size and tremor creating abilities.

I have been fascinated with her experience ever since she relayed it to me years later and I have done some digging and the only other sighting of these things. In the 1800's, a prospector named Turner Helm in Warner Springs mentioned a bear-like creature with a human face. Thanks for your platform. JH

Over the years, I have received several strange accounts from the same region.  Here is another account from the past:

In 1971, the early part of the year, The Marine Base here in Twenty-Nine Palms California had an unusual happening. The man was in charge of the armory and the night guard (Marine) was found at the rifle range one morning, almost incoherent, his rifle bent almost in two and he described what was to be called "The Yucca Man." The creature was in the dark and the guard had felt or heard a noise of something in the darkened desert, upon raising his rifle and yelling out to halt, the 'thing' came at him taking the rifle away and bending it almost in two!

Investigation of the area and the guard's description was that of a yeti (ABSM). From what I remember, CIA and FBI were called in; many dark suits were roaming around looking for info. Officials were called in and the neighborhood in 29-Palms near the base was found to have 2 Yucca men seen that same night, one quite large and a smaller one with it. At the corner of Valley Vista Street and Utah Trail the resident dogs were barking and people looked out the window to see these creatures. Johnny and Rae saw these Yucca's and reported them to the officials making the investigation at the time. Johnny has since passed on but his wife, Rae, and daughter are still in the area. Further down the same road later on the creatures were observed near a horse corral where the horses were panicky. Early in 71 another sighting was in the Joshua Tree National Monument (now called a park) and the people sighting them were part of the monument employees.

(This is a desert area, not well occupied with people and a lot of the area is not accessible. The incidents were documented and reported by Bobbie Short in February 2001.)


Here are a few other accounts:

Eight years later, in May of 1979, a young couple were leaving their condominium complex in Desert Hot Springs, north of Palm Springs, when a large harry creature emerged from behind a yucca in front of their car. According to the driver the animal, which had "a chest the size of a refrigerator and arms that hung down below its knees", was so large that he could only see it from the mid-section down. The beast that reportedly was covered in long tan colored hair disappeared quickly back into the night leaving no footprint evidence.

Also in 1979 a 12-foot-tall Bigfoot made a visit to Hemet, California some distance to the south of Palm Springs twice in a period of a week. This time, however, the creature left a grand total of 17 tracks in the mud along a rural road during its initial visit. These tracks measured 18 inches in length and were spaced some 6 feet apart.

Noted Bigfoot researchers Douglas Trapp and Danny Perez both conducted a investigation of this sighting, even going as far as to perform a "stakeout" of the location where the tracks were found. But alas, the monster did not return.

In 1988 a couple of service men from Twenty-Nine Palms were returning home from a day of fun in the sun at Big Bear Lake at about 9:00 p.m. when they encountered a creature that the locals call the "Cement Monster", due to the fact that it is said to live near an old cement factory in Lucerne Valley.

As the two men approached the old factory, a large upright running creature moved across the road in front of their car. As was the case 9 years earlier in Desert Hot Springs the animal in question was so large that the men could only see it’s lower half.

In disbelief the two men just looked at each other for a moment before one of them exclaimed "What the Hell was that?" The other replied, "That was the Cement Monster, after him!" The driver hit the brakes while the other reached for a gun that was in the glove box. The two adrenaline filed men searched up and down the road and around the cement factory, but never found any sign of the creature.

The pair came to the conclusion that they had seen some form of prehistoric man and returned to their journey home.

An anonymous source reported the following:
I thought I would share this. Over Easter break, in about 1998 or 1999, I was camping and rock climbing at Joshua Tree with two friends. We stayed in the Hidden Valley Campground. At some point during the trip, I took a picture of our campsite, which backed up against large rocks with a famous climb overhead. Between the rocks was a deep crevice (although not a full cave). You guessed it. When the pictures were returned to me, there was a primate-type face peering out of the darkness of the crevice. It wasn't super clear, but distinct enough that everyone I showed it to noticed it. I showed it to a friend who used to ranger at Joshua Tree and she said "that might be Yucca Man," which was the first I had heard of him. I'm not certain where the photo is now, although I'm certain I didn't throw it away.
