Excuses Excuses, or: Why I Am a Fail

I am not currently accepting any books for review, and have put a lot of my ebooks on temporary hiatus as I am trying to read the hard copy books I have. (I am not kidding when I say that, altogether, I probably own several thousand books.)

If you are an author/publisher who approved me for an e-ARC on Netgalley and I did not get to reading and reviewing your book, I sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

If you sent me a personal e-ARC via GR or email, I haven't forgotten about you. I am just swamped with my own work and personal obligations. :/

I am tentatively and slowly starting to work through some of my Netgalley copies. However, with deadlines for my own work coming up, this may be more wishful thinking than anything else.

Thank you so much for bearing with me. As always, I treasure all the comments I get as a reviewer, and all the readers I meet as a writer, and it is a pleasure to interact with each and every one of you. I'm just a little bit of a flake right now. :)

Happy reading!

I Was NOMINATED!

Or one of my characters was.

Christina Parker got nominated for the Feisty Females YA Tournament.

If you would like to vote, click on the link above! There are lots of other choices on there too, so even if you hate me (or my character) you should still give it a go. It's run by the lovely Booknut herself- so get on there and show her, and your favorite authors, some lovin'!

<3

Happy reading,

Oh, Hey, Look! A Writing Survey

More pilfering from LJ. Feel free to share your own answers in the comments, if you like! (:

Writing Survey:

What's the last thing you wrote?
That I finished? Armed and Dangerous. That was a WIP? Terrorscape.

Was it any good?
I plead the fifth.

What's the first thing you ever wrote that you still have?
I have a story I wrote in fourth grade. It was called "Beware of the Purple Ooze!"

Was it any good?
The cover is a tracing of my hand colored purple with yellow finger nails. That ought to give you an idea of the content.

Angsty poetry?
I've written my fair share of it.

Favourite genre of writing?
Horror, gothic, sci-fi, fantasy, etc.

Most fun character you ever wrote?
Probably Catherine Pierce. You haven't met her yet...she appears in Black Beast. ^.~

Most annoying character you ever wrote?
Christina's Mom.

Best plot you ever wrote?
People seem to really like my IMA series the best, but I'm probably proudest of Horrorscape. The plot was so complicated I had to keep a little notebook of the details beside me, and keep referring to it as I wrote. I'm glad to be done!

Coolest plot twist you ever wrote?
Endgame has a pretty cool twist at the end. I think.

How often do you get writer's block?
A lot.

How do you fix it?
Reading, guilt trips, crying.

Write fan fiction?
Oh God. Yes. YES. OKAY? I ADMIT IT. I WAS FIFTEEN, OKAY?
And it was terrible and we will never speak of it again.

Do you type or write by hand?
I type.

Do you save everything you write?
Most of it.

Do you ever go back to an old idea long after you abandoned it?
Yup!

What's your favorite thing that you've written?
I don't know. I have love-hate relationships with my stories. I tend to love them best when they're finished. I hate them the most when they're WIPs.

What's everyone else's favorite thing that you've written?
Cloak and Dagger, though Fearscape has some very scarily-devoted fangirls (but they know I love them).

Do you even show people your work?
I self-publish, so yes.

Who's your favourite constructive critic?
Louisa. She is so good about pointing out things that I was stupid about without making me feel stupid. She's kind of amazing. (She designed my covers, too!) (:

Do you have a web site for your writings?
Not really. My website is for reviews.

Did you ever write a novel?
Yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeees.

Have you ever written fantasy, sci-fi, or horror?
Yes, yes, and yes. MY FAVORITES.

Ever written romance or teen angsty drama?
...Actually, yes. It's like Meg Cabot-y fluff I wrote in high school. Not sure if I'll ever pub it though. I kind of hate it. XD

What's your favorite setting for your characters?
Anywhere I can really picture.

What's one genre you have never written, and probably never will?
Um. Probably high school romances/fluffy high school stories. I hated high school a lot.

How many writing projects are you working on right now?
One.

Do you want to write for a living?
That would be a dream come true.

Have you ever written something for a magazine or newspaper?
Nope.

Have you ever won an award for your writing?
Yes. (:

Ever written something in script or play format?
Only in review form.

What are your five favorite words?
They are probably adverbs. I tend to use and abuse those.

Do you ever parody?
Yes.

What's your favorite thing to parody?
Romance novels that irritate me.

Do you actually like that thing, or are you spitefully making fun of it?
I like making fun of it.

Do you ever write based on yourself?
Noooo.

What character that you've written most resembles yourself?
Er.

Where do you get ideas for your other characters?
It depends.

Do you ever write based on your dreams?
All the time.

Do you favor happy endings, sad endings, or cliff-hangers?
Let the ending fit the story!

Have you ever written based on an artwork you've seen?
Yes.

Are you concerned with spelling and grammar as you write?
To the best of my ability, yes.

Ever write something entirely in chatspeak? (How r u?)
KILL IT WITH FIRE.

Entirely in L337?
^

Was that question completely appalling and un-writer like?
^

Does music help you write?
No. It distracts me. I do listen to it while I edit though.

Quote something you've written. The first thing to pop into your mind.
"Below the water there's no sound/we love to watch you as you drown."

Why I Comment on Reviews

There's a question I get once in a while, and it's "Why do you comment on all your reviews and ratings?" I guess it's kind of become my shtick - for better or for worse. (Hopefully for the better!)

I can promise that there's nothing sinister about my motives. The reason I do it goes back to a conversation about author trolls I was having with someone on this site, and that person said something like, "Why do people get so focused on one-star ratings? It's not like they go out and personally thank all their positive reviewers."

I thought that person had a point. Authors do sometimes take their positive reviews for granted. Because of entitlement, I guess? I don't know. But it was a good idea.

Long story short, that's why I thank my reviewers. It helps keep everything in perspective, and reminds me that behind every one of those cute little avatars is a person who, for whatever reason, decided to take a chance on me. I used to do one- and two-star ratings too, but I guess that made some people uncomfortable, so I stopped (because, like I said, nothing sinister here - except when I have caffeine. Then I get a little scary. But more like "Oh noez!" scary than "OH NO SHE DIDN'T" scary). But I still am grateful for all feedback, and whenever I see a new rating on Goodreads I am always super excited that somebody took the time to read and rate my book.

Bottom line is:

You guys are awesome. <3

I'm...#2?!

I just thought it was really awesome that my book was voted #2 in this list of books.

http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/13...

It isn't a "best of" book list, and I was the one who put it on there in the first place, but I guess a lot of my readers and fans went on there and upvoted it. <3

So I just wanted to say that while I may be #2, you guys are #1~!!!

Thank you for your continued support of meeeee. (:

Group Invites Are Evil BUT

I would like to cordially invite you via this blog to join the Anti-Asshat Indie Authors group.

We recently went public. It's a place to chat with indie authors (and readers) who want to stay drama-free and just talk about books or writing. We're all very down-to-earth, and there are genre-specific forums to blather on about your favorite books (I've already commandeered the gothic one).

As long as you can be civil and friendly (as I know everyone on my friend's list totally is <3), you are more than welcome to join. I'm one of the mods (along with the lovely Elly H. and Rick G., who are both super-nice)!

Do you volunteer as tribute? ;)

Happy reading,

xNenia

Shelfwork Under Construction

I have become somewhat (in)famous for having a lot of crazy wacky shelves. They were fun, but I was having a lot of trouble finding/categorizing what I was reading.

It was beginning to drive me a little nuts trying to keep track of all my books.

Over the next few days, I will be recategorizing my shelves in a more useful manner to help with navigation. (:
