Hola a todos:
No sé si recordaréis que mencioné una nueva página de Facebook, Libretería, donde autores indies leen fragmentos cortos de sus obras para sus lectores.
El cerebro detrás del proyecto, Pedro Araque, un gran periodista y un profesional de la radio (ahora que me dedico a la radio de forma amateur, todavía les tengo más respeto) se interesó por mi novela corta Familia, lujuria y Cámara.

The event runs for the 5th of May at at 2 pm to 7 pm on 7th May (PDT). The ten authors taking part (hopefully I’ll be able to keep up with the time difference) will share fragments of the books they’re offering in Audio version, fragments particularly related to mothers. We’ll talk to readers and answer questions. And on the 7th May we’ll be announcing the lucky readers and listeners who’ve won the audiobooks.
As you know I’m fairly new to audiobooks and when Uvi asked me if I had one that featured mothers prominently, I straight away thought about I Love Your Cupcakes. Although some of my other books also have mothers in them, I Love Your Cupcakes has very interesting family relationships. Dulce’s mother has died before the action of the novel starts (well, there are two time lines but…) and she’s the inspiration for the baking business the girls start. Toni, Adelfa’s mother, becomes Dulce’s stepmother and that is a supportive relationship, although Toni doesn’t think she’s done enough for her stepdaughter, who also happens to be her best friend’s daughter. And to add complication to family matters, there’s also Storm… But well, if you want to know more, you might as well, read, or listen to the book. But I thought I’d share some of the fragments I’d chosen…

Dulcinea loved her name. She had always felt it suited her to a T. So much so, that if she hadn’t been called that she was convinced she would have changed her name to Dulcinea. OK, it wasn’t the most typical name for an American girl, but her mother, Carmen, was Spanish and she always thought that the imaginary lady/love of Don Quijote deserved a second chance and a bigger role than she had ever been given. She also adored the fact that if it was shortened to Dulce, its meaning was ‘Sweet’ in Spanish. And if there was something her mother had loved was everything sweet. Carmen was the best amateur baker amongst all her friends’ mothers and she doubted that many professionals of baking and desserts could have competed with her. Her culinary skills got so popular and so many people asked her to give them her recipes or teach them how to bake that she ran a course on desserts and cooking at the local adult college until her death. It was only fair and fitting that even her daughter was Dulce.

It was a Saturday during Spring-break and Dulce and Adelfa had just arrived back from one of their non-shopping/shopping trips (when they went to the mall, walked around the shops, selected their favorite items, calculated costs, imagined appropriate occasions to wear their outfits but didn’t buy anything, or maybe only a drink or an ice-cream at a push). They stopped by Dulce’s house first but there was nobody there, and as it had become the norm since the death of Dulce’s mother, they went to Adelfa’s house. There they found Toni (Adelfa’s Mom) crying whilst hugging Tony (Dulce’s Dad).
Adelfa’s Mom had been very supportive of Tony since Carmen’s death. She had cooked for them, invited them around, and the two families had spent plenty of time together. Chad, Adelfa’s Dad, was a well-known chef that spent most of his time helping restaurants and hotels in crisis throughout the whole of the US and abroad, giving seminars and teaching in the most prestigious culinary schools in the world, and was hardly ever home.
Dulce’s first reaction to the scene was to wonder how close her Dad and Toni had actually become, as he was not only hugging her closely but also drying her tears and caressing her. She could not help but suspect that kisses might also be in the agenda.
Adelfa’s reaction was to go to her mother and, taking her by the elbow, ask her:
“What’s happened? What’s wrong? Why are you crying?”
“Oh, Adelfa!” Toni burst into another flood of tears. “Your father…”
“Is also my father.”
They all turned to look in the direction the voice had come from. Adelfa and Dulce had been so taken by the scene between their parents that they had completely missed the young boy standing at the back of the room, by the patio door.
“Who are you?” asked Adelfa. “And what do you mean?”
“Oh, girls, this is Sebastian. He’s Chad’s son. It seems Chad, your father…” Toni started.
THREE
Toni looked at Dulce.
“This must be a lot of work. And for what Adelfa was telling me, you have lots of plans of other things to do, like reading groups, children’s play groups, workshops, events…”
“Yes. We have lots of people interested in facilitating things and in helping out. But I think we’ll need to get some permanent staff very soon, as otherwise it could get overwhelming.”
“I’d love to help. As you know I can cook although cakes have never been my strong point. But I feel…There’s something I must be able to do. You know I’ve never wanted to take your mother’s place, and I couldn’t. She was an incredible woman, my best friend and we’re very different. But I’ve always felt that I’ve never done much for you. I’ve been there for your Dad, and Adelfa always seemed to know what she wanted to do from very early on, but I’ve never been of much help to you.”
“You’ve always been there…”
“Looking on and not knowing what to do. I can see how passionate you feel, well, you “all” feel about this. And I can see why. There’s a lot of love here. Let me help. If there’s anything I can do.”

Hola a todos. Es viernes y toca autora invitada. Una reseña fabulosa

Esta obra comienza con los versos que Miguel Hernández escribió en su elegía a Ramón Sijé:
«A las aladas almas de las rosas
del almendro de nata le requiero
que tenemos que hablar de muchas cosas,
compañero del alma, compañero».
Estas palabras nos dan el tono y el tema: la necesidad de comunicar, de recibir palabras y darlas para sellar el amor.
En esta historia una mujer de nombre Jimena Alcantará pide a otra mujer que la escuche. Se lo pide a su madre, la mujer primera, aquella que como la sociedad en que vivimos, nos hace más o menos humanos. Se lo exige.
En ese camino de palabras conoceremos la vida de Jimena, su casamiento joven, sus decepciones. ¿Todos cambiamos? Algunos más, algunos menos, pero la vida no se detiene, hay que enfrentarla cada día, le ponemos esfuerzo, lo hacemos para mantener lazos de unión que creímos seguros, para formar una familia, para ser dignos de nuestros propios proyectos. Uno se casa sin nada y acaba años después con un alto cargo de ejecutivo; una se casa sin nada, espera desarrollar su profesión y los hijos llegan y hay que cuidarlos, y hay que decidir qué es mejor para todos. Y muchas mujeres renuncian a seguir adelante profesionalmente por el bienestar de la familia. O al revés, y luego todo son preguntas. ¿Me equivoqué? ¿No me equivoqué?
Este es un libro que ha figurado y figura entre los ebooks más vendidos de los últimos meses en España. Se lo merece. Representa el sentir de muchas mujeres y aunque de ellos, se hable indirectamente, también el de muchos hombres; de las expectativas que forjamos unos y otros.
Hay un deje amargo en el fondo que se convierte en numerosas sonrisas. ¿Cómo no sonreír con párrafos como este? «Aturdida. En una casa llena de muebles estúpidos y traiccioneros, que se llenaban de polvo en cuanto los perdía de vista. Llenando la barriga del carrito del supermercado…»
Hay infinidad de lecturas tras este libro que nos hablan de una autora que ha leído mucho; hay títulos que saltan sobre los renglones como un recuerdo de un período de la vida: Así habló Zaratrusta, Cien años de soledad, El Quijote, una obra de Gunter Grass; hay canciones que hemos oído, hay deseos de independencia, de dejar atrás lo que yo no sirve, de que la vida se fije en una, de una vez y para siempre.
Hay una sencillez que engaña porque no deja ver de cuántas horas de lecturas y escritura está hecha esta obra en la que la protagonista, esa chica delgada y morena de una familia numerosa de pueblo que con las ubres de sus cuatro vacas conseguía algo así como un petróleo blanco con el que mantener a sus hijos, intentará recuperar su vida, aquella en la que creyó, cuando se casó sin nada, con aquellas ilusiones, unas cajas de libros y sin electrodomésticos. Pero la vida pasa y pasa y pasa… Y un día se encuentra viviendo en un adosado, de esos que llegaron con el boom inmobiliario, casi al mismo tiempo que los adosados de las teleseries norteamericanas que veíamos, y no sabe muy bien cuál es su papel, porque está en esa edad en que todo lo sembrado se lo lleva la primera lluvia que cae y a los hijos, a los de todas las mujeres, los atrapan los colegios, los amigos, las novias y novios, los trabajos, los estudios, la vida, en suma.
«Mujer de agua…» se llama ella, las hay y muchas, como Sheela, como Remedios…Están ahí para la vida, tanto que hasta se olvidan de sí mismas, y un día despiertan más que otro y deciden mirar a un hombre que no es su esposo con deseo o hacer un viaje para encontrarse.
Deben leer este libro. Deben conocer la historia del paraguas rojo.

Muchos momentos vividos en unas cuantas páginas que conmueven y que hipnotizan a la vez. Las historias se entremezclan entre el pasado y el presente, deseando que llegue un futuro nuevo y esperanzador pero sin dejar de vivir el instante real. Repleto de frases que emocionan y que al igual que la primera parte saben llegar a ese rinconcito del alma que todos tenemos guardado dentro de nosotros.
La vida de Mena, Remedios y Amanda, las nuevas “brujas de Eastwick”, está llena de magia, como no podía ser de otra forma. Una magia que envuelve la narración desde el principio y que llenará el mundo de las protagonistas poco a poco, sintiéndola en cada segundo de la existencia de esas “mujeres de agua”, valientes y decididas, acompañadas por esos “hombres de viento” que tan necesarios son para ellas. Todo bajo la protección de ese paraguas rojo, que al igual que la lluvia, aparece en los momentos más importantes de sus vidas.
Parte de esa magia también se refleja en los escenarios que aparecen en la novela. ¿Cómo no sentir la magia en ese rinconcito de Galicia donde la Queimada, el Conxuro, el mar, el olor y el color tan especial que tiene, embriaga de sentimientos a quien lo conoce? What Was The Inspiration For Your Mother’s Day Magic Story?
Maddie’s Project is an offshoot of the forthcoming book in the Jessica Huntington Desert Cities Mystery series. That book is about Beverly Windsor, A DEAD MOTHER. Like all the books in the series A DEAD HUSBAND, A DEAD SISTER, and A DEAD DAUGHTER the murder mystery centers on social relationships, family dynamics, and women’s issues—not just whodunit but why. In A DEAD MOTHER, Beverly Windsor’s death has Jessica and her friend Laura pondering the mysteries surrounding their own mothers, both of whom have been challenged to face cancer and responded in very different ways. In the past year we’ve lost a lot of interesting people to cancer and several people in my life have dealt with cancer, so some of my inspiration is more personal.
How much research was involved in writing your story? How did you go about it?
Writing fiction requires odd kinds of research. I knew I needed to check various sites on the Internet to make sure I was using correct terms for medical issues related to cancer treatment now, and in the past. The timelines for the mothers in this story are 20 years apart and a good deal has happened. What surprised me was how often in the first draft of the story I used references to technology, movies, or video games that weren’t around twenty years ago. That was the mid-1990s so I’m not talking ancient history, but when I checked out those elements of my story, I had to make a lot changes. For example, in my first draft Laura asked her mother about using “earbuds” with her “iPod” to help her relax. In the mid-90s there was no iPod [released 2001] and earbuds were introduced along with the iPod, so no earbuds, either.
How often do your characters surprise you by doing or saying something completely unexpected?
Laura, one of the characters in Maddie’s Project, is always a surprise to me. On the surface, she’s one of the least quirky members of Jessica’s sleuthing friends—the cat pack, as they refer to themselves. Laura is often willing to confront Jessica, to make an observation about her friend that is telling, or to reveal a side to herself that isn’t as staid and dependable as she seems to be. All of the characters in the books have changed in unexpected ways over the course of the series. Short answer: YES!
Do you miss spending time with your characters when you finish writing this story?
Yes. Especially Maddie Powers who is a new character. I would love to write more about her.
What writer has been your biggest inspiration?
I have so many favorites among authors who write about mystery and women’s issues, it’s hard to pick one as my biggest inspiration. Agatha Christie is an important source of inspiration for anyone who writes in the cozy mystery genre. Other authors with women sleuths are also inspirations, like Sara Paretsky’s V.I. Warshawski, Sue Grafton’s Kinsey Milhone, Jonnie Jacob’s Kali O’Brien and Rebecca Forster’s Josie Bates. Janet Evanovich has inspired my interest to add humor and the romance into my mystery stories—not just the Jessica Huntington series but my new series of cozy mysteries in Corsario Cove. There are so many writers in my circle of friends, like you, Tamara, Dianne Harman, and others who inspire by fighting the good fight every day trying to juggle the demands of writing and reaching readers.
What non-writer had the most influence on your life And why?
My first love was science, so a lot of the early influences were scientists. That included women like Marie Curie and Margaret Mead. There have been a lot of women who mentored and supported me when I decided to go into social science.
How important is the choosing of character names to you? Have you ever decided on a name and then changed it because it wasn’t right for the character?
Names are important for many reasons. In Jessica Huntington’s case, for example, the Huntington name is one that resonates with old wealth in California. That’s important since it’s part of her backstory and it’s key to the character arc that she’s traveling as the series unfolds. Poor, slightly spoiled, rich girl with a shopping addiction comes to grips with the fact that money can’t buy happiness. A name for a character also has to fit in with all the other characters, of course, so there aren’t two characters with the same or names so similar they make it difficult for readers to keep them straight.
Do you allow others to read your work in progress, or do you keep it a secret until you’ve finished your first draft?
I have several people who read first drafts, usually once that draft is complete or nearly complete. I also have beta readers who read proof copies.
What inspired you to write your first book?
My first fiction book was a horror story called DayRunner—remember those? In the book, a woman becomes consumed with, and then by, the scheduler she carries around with her. It begins to take over, putting darker and deadlier items on her “to do” list. I found fiction writing was a great way to counter the constraints imposed by the writing I was doing as a professor and social scientist. Writing fiction, where I could just make stuff up, was wildly entertaining!
What might we be surprised to know about you?
I married a rock musician, but I once considered a career as an opera singer.
I’m glad to have had the chance to tell Maddie’s story. She’s a great mom under very difficult circumstances—a warrior and a hero in an everyday sort of way. Here’s to all the women who have to do the same!

#Feriadellibro en maravillos Gales. El 30 de Abril. No os la perdáis. Habrá pasteles! Y una cuestión de precios
Hola a todos:
Como os llevo diciendo hace unas semanas, me he estado preparando para mi primera asistencia a una feria de libros. Y, por fin ha llegado! Este sábado, 30 de Abril, en Llandeilo, allí estaré. Mi preparación deja bastante que desear, pero por lo menos tengo los libros… Lo demás, ya se verá. Es una feria en principio pensada para autores conectados con Gales, pero yo me he colado, así que estaré calladita.
Estoy emocionada no solo por la oportunidad de poder hablar con lectores y participar en las actividades (hay de todo, autores hablarán sobre varios tópicos, habrá lecturas de obras, un concurso de escritura para niños, dulces celestiales…) sino porque podré conocer a muchos compañeros escritores a los que hasta ahora solo he conocido a través de blogs o de sus libros. ¡Qué emoción!
Iba escribir un post con más detalles, pero el cerebro detrás de toda la organización, un gran autor, que apoya mucho a los demás escritores, y que tiene grandes ideas, Christoph Fischer, publicó un post sobre la feria en su blog, así que os recomiendo que lo visitéis y si leéis en inglés (y/o publicáis en inglés), os recomiendo que visitéis el blog porque hay entrevistas, y reseñas fabulosas, aparte de información sobre sus obras.

Hi all:
As I’ve been telling you recently, I’m going to my first book fair. Now it’s here! Ready or not (mostly not, but I have the books), it’s this Saturday, the 30th of April 2016 at Llandeilo. I’m an interloper (most writers have a close connection with Wales, in my case I like Wales, I’ve spent some time there and I hope to spend more in the future and… I’ll try and keep quiet) but that’s never stopped me before. Apart from books, wonderful writers who will be happy to sign, chat, read, give a few talks…, we have a writing competition for children, heavenly sweets and much, much more.
I’m very excited, not only because of the opportunity to meet readers, but also because I’ll meet some of the writers I only know through their books and their blogs. Yes!
Christoph Fischer, a great writer, fabulous supported of other writers and a magician at organising things, is the brains behind this fair, and he’s written such a fabulous post (including pictures of newspaper articles and everything else) that I didn’t dare to try and compete. #Autorclásicoinvitado Mariano José de Larra. Y algunas cosas no cambian

Compartí el post original sobre Mariano José de Larra después de las elecciones inglesas, pero con todo el lío que hay ahora mismo en España, este escritor parece estar más de actualidad que nunca, así que, aquí os lo traigo.

Como sabéis estoy revisitando algunos de mis posts sobre autores clásicos, y después de las elecciones aquí en Inglaterra, me pareció que Mariano José de Larra era de lo más adecuado.
Por cierto, si habéis escrito (o leído) alguna novela basada en un clásico, o que tenga como personaje a un clásico, dejadme una nota, que quiero crear posts combinando clásicos y nuevas versiones.

Es viernes y toca autor invitado. Después de hablar de Quevedo, me puse a pensar en Larra (más de una conexión hay, especialmente en lo de expresar las opiniones personales y políticas le pese a quién le pese y pase lo que pase) y aquí os lo traigo.
Hay muchas biografías detalladas, pero os dejo enlaces más abajo.
Biografía:
Mariano José de Larra y Sánchez de Castro (Madrid, 24 de marzo de 1809 – Madrid, 13 de febrero de 1837) fue un escritor, periodista y político español y uno de los más importantes exponentes del Romanticismo español.
Hijo de un cirujano militar afrancesado tuvieron que exilarse en Francia con la familia siguiendo a José Bonaparte. En el 1818 regresaron a España y su padre se convirtió en médico personal de un hermano del rey Fernando VII.
Estudió Medicina en Madrid y Derecho en Valladolid y luego Valencia aunque no completó ninguna de las dos carreras. Se especula que por aquella época se enamoró de una mujer mucho mayor que él que resultó ser la amante de su padre.
Empezó a escribir artículos en varias publicaciones aunque varias fueron prohibidas por la censura. En 1829 se casó con Josefa Wetoret, un matrimonio que acabó en separación. A partir del 1833 y usando el seudónimo de Fígaro escribió algunos de sus artículos más famosos: ‘Vuelva usted mañana’, ‘El castellano viejo’, ‘El casarse pronto y mal’, ‘En este país’.
En 1834 publicó El doncel de don Enrique el Doliente y estrenó la obra teatral Macías.
Viajó a Londres, París, Bruselas y Portugal. Conoció a Dumas y Victor Hugo. Cuando volvió a España siguió escribiendo y se metió de lleno en la política llegando a ser elegido diputado por Ávila aunque nunca llegó a ejercer.
Su relación adúltera con Dolores Armijo terminó y eso se sumó a su pesimismo con respecto a la situación política española. Su actitud queda reflejada en ‘El día de difuntos de 1836’. A los pocos minutos de tener una discusión con su amante en 1837 se suicidó (de un tiro) .
Es uno de los exponentes del Romanticismo en literatura española junto con Espronceda, Bécquer y Rosalía de Castro. Escribió en variedad de géneros pero es más conocido como periodista, y sus artículos son tan actuales ahora como en su época. Aunque murió muy joven (se pegó un tiro a los 27 años) en solo ocho años publicó más de 200 artículos. Usó una variedad de seudónimos (Fígaro, Duende, Bachiller y El Pobrecito Hablador). Para ser un romántico, es muy crítico de la situación política, de las costumbres y de la vida en general.
Zorrilla leyó una elegía en su entierro que le dio a conocer.

I’m today revisiting another of my old classic author posts. This is one of the oldest, and considering I’ve shared reviews of horror novels quite recently, it’s only appropriate.

It’s Friday and again I decided to bring you one of my favourite classic authors. If you remember when I wrote the post on Oscar Wilde I told you that one of my friends was very keen on Edgar Allan Poe when we were at school. Margarita. As a consequence I read plenty of Poe at the time, and really enjoyed it. He had a penchant for mystery and horror stories (master of Gothic style), according to some he was the inventor of the detective story, and his poems remain popular to this day. I can say that stories like his ‘The Tell-tale Heart’ will always remain with me.
Biography:
He was born 19th January 1809 in Boston, Massachusetts. He was the son of actors but never knew his parents (father left and mother died when he was only 3). He was separated from his siblings and adopted by the Allan family (tobacco merchants) from Richmond, Virginia. It seems he never got on with John, his adoptive father.
He went to the University of Virginia but did not get enough money and turned to gambling ending up in debt.
He started publishing in 1827 (Tamerlane and Other Poems) and at same time went to West Point. Although he excelled at his studies he was not interested in the duties and was asked to leave. In 1829 he published a second collection of Poems (Al Aaraaf, Tamberlane, and Minor Poems),
He focused on his writing and moved, living in New York, Baltimore, Philadelphia and Richmond. From 1831 to 1835 he stayed in Baltimore with his aunt Maria Clemm and her daughter Virginia, whom he ended up marrying in 1836 (when she was 13 or 14).
Back in Richmond he started working for a magazine: Southern Literary Messenger and became well know as a fierce critic. Due to difficulties he only worked there for two years and he only briefly worked for two other magazines. During this period he published The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym.
In late 1830s he published Tales of the Grotesque and Arabesque (including ‘The Fall of the House of Usher’, ‘Ligeia’ and ‘William Wilson’). The Murders in the Rue Morgue in 1841 has been described as the first story of a new genre, the detective novel. He won a literary award for The Gold Bug.
His fame reached its peak with his publication of the poem The Raven in 1845. Many consider it one of his best works.
He also wrote a series of essays, poems and The Cask of Amontillado.
His wife Virginia died in 1847 and it seems he never fully recovered. His health was poor and he had financial difficulties. His death is surrounded by mystery, and it’s still unclear what he died of on October 7th 1849 in Baltimore.
He suffered from bad press following his death and another writer, Rufus Griswold (fame has not treated him kindly, but what goes around…) spread rumours about Poe being mentally unwell, an alcoholic and womaniser. Despite of all that, his stories are still as shocking, if not more, than at the time of their publication.

If you enjoy movies I leave you with the . There’ve been many film versions of his stories, and he’s even recently appeared as a character in his own right (I haven’t watched the movie though…). I love Roger Corman’s versions of some of his stories (actually I love Roger Corman, great filmmaker, distributor of some of the best filmmakers, great eye for talent and has discovered so many great people, from actors: Jack Nicholson, Sandra Bullock, Robert De Niro, to filmmakers: Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, Joe Dante, James Cameron, Peter Bognadovich…And if you’re a filmmaker his 1990 biography “How I Made A Hundred Movies in Hollywood And Never Lost A Dime” is highly recommended).

¿Cómo empezáis el día? Los cinco ritos tibetanos de rejuvenecimiento.
Hola a todos:
Parece que he conseguido acumular varias actividades promocionales a finales de Abril y principios de Mayo así que no quería daros mucho la lata y decidí tomarme un descanso (y de paso dároslo a vosotros también).
Si lleváis tiempo siguiéndome quizás recordéis que hace tiempo (casi tres años ya, qué barbaridad) fue a un curso/retiro sobre Mindfulness y meditación y desde entonces empecé a meditar cada día. Nos recomendaron una App que se llama Insight que además de ser un temporizador, y ofrecer meditaciones guiadas, también tiene una serie de grupos a los que se puede unir uno. Lo cierto es que aparte de muy informativos e inspiracionales también los he encontrado muy solidarios. Especialmente el de mujeres, así que cuando puedo entro a ver qué hay de nuevo. Un día leí un post de una mujer que preguntaba lo que yo pregunto en este post, y las respuestas fueron de lo más interesantes. Mucha gente tiene mucha fé en tomar agua con limón (fría o caliente, parece que caliente es mejor aunque no soy una gran fan de bebidas calientes) y muchos mencionaron que hacían los cinco ritos tibetanos de rejuvenecimiento. Naturalmente, me picó la curiosidad, y como hacemos todos los que nos dedicamos a la investigación seria, fui a You Tube.

Yo llevo practicando los cinco ritos hace casi un año. No sé si estoy rejuvenecida o no (sigo aquí, que ya es mucho), pero es una buena forma de empezar el día, desde luego. Y no puedo evitar pensar que quizás Julie Andrews sabía algo que no nos contó…

How do you start your day? The Five Tibetan rites of rejuvenation and other random thoughts.
Hi all:
I seem to have accumulated a few promotional activities in the end of April and beginning of May (I’ve told you about some and I’ll remind you again soon) so I decided this week I would give myself and everybody a break.
If you’ve been reading some of my posts for a while you might remember that after going on a Mindfulness course/retreat for psychiatrists some time ago (I was surprised to realised it’s coming up to three years) I took up Mindfulness. I use an App called Insight that apart from offering a timer and guided meditations also has the option of joining some groups. I’ve found them (especially the Women’s Group) very welcoming and supportive and whenever I have a chance I check the messages. One day somebody had posted a question, the one in the title of my post. And quite a few of the ladies replying to the question mentioned that first thing in the morning they’d do the Five Tibetan Rites of Rejuvenation. (OK, and drinking lemon water, hot or not was also a big winner).
Of course, with my rigorous research cap on, I decided to go to You Tube and find out what the Five Tibetan Rites of Rejuvenation where. You’ll see if you try, that there are many videos about it. I share one here:

I’ve been doing the Five Rites for almost a year. I’m not sure I’m any younger, but I think it’s a good way to start the day.
And I can’t help but wonder if Julie Andrews knew something that escaped me at the time….
So, friends, how do you start your day? I hope with a bit of time to yourselves and a smile, if nothing else.

(OK, I went to an exhibition in Barcelona, of some of the paintings of the Phillips Collection, and for some reason, this painting makes me smile).
