Music Monday! Fitz and The Tantrums: Just Like Heaven

This six man band from Los Angeles is one of my favorite new bands of the last several years. Their third CD was released last June and I did feature one of their songs, but now they went and did a cover of one of the greatest pop songs of all time, the Cure’s Just Like Heaven.

Have a great Monday! ~Phil

My Anti-Bucket List

Thanks a lot Mary Tyler Moore. And I say that with the utmost sarcasm. You had to go and die. No, I wasn’t a feminist woman in the 70’s who felt empowered by your role in a TV show. I’m just a guy who hates death and hates being reminded about it every time someone famous dies.

Some people choose to celebrate life as a way to acknowledge death. There’s even blogs where people write about their “bucket list.” Here’s my bucket list:

Yup, that’s it. That empty space between these words and...

TBT! The Doppelganger Fight Club

(1/23/2016)Do you want to find your doppelganger? The word doppelganger is German and literally means double walker — as in a ghost or shadow of yourself. In September of 2009 (yes, 2009) I wrote this post about doppelgangers. I speculated on the possibilities, good and bad, of each of us possibly having a twin out there that looks just like us.

Two Nicholas Cages making movies? How awful would that be? I think finding another me would be awesome. Maybe...

Few Words Wednesday: The Crypt

image

I know this is supposed to be Wordless Wednesday, but let’s face it, I can never go fully wordless, so I’ll call it Few Words Wednesday and write less than I usually do. If you read my book,The Sneaker Tree, this is the entrance to the crypt they went into. I was driving, saw this and just had to find a way to work something this cool into a story. Also, if you read yesterdays post, My 10 Favorite One Hit Wonder Songs, there was only one person who answered the challenge of figuring out the...

Top Ten Tuesday! My 10 Favorite One Hit Wonder Songs

Usually one hit wonder songs seem like the greatest musical discovery in our lives for a few months and then they fade away, only to later embarrass us when someone discovers them in our music collection and mocks us. Here are 10 of my favorite one hit wonder songs. What are some of yours? I’d love to hear them in the comments.

10. BanditosbyThe Refreshments,1996 The video looks like it was home made on a Super 8 camera. Also, this song has one odd thing in common with one other song on this...

Music Monday! The 1975

The guys in The 1975 all met in high school in Manchester, England. If you haven’t heard of them, then must have been in hiding the last few years. I like all of their music, but it’s this interesting cover of One Direction‘sWhat Makes You Beautiful.

Enjoy! Have a great Monday! ~Phil

When You Want To Kill Them For Just Chewing (aka Who Is Miss Ophonia?)

Who is Miss Ophonia? My wife is. So, I have a wife. A wonderful patient woman who puts up with me every day. I know that here, making fun of things 500 words at a time, I must seem like I’m the perfect guy. (You all were thinking that, right?) But to her, I’m a constant collection of irritating noises. I breath too loud. I chew too loud. My hair grows too loud.

According to WebMD, “Misophonia, also known as selective sound sensitivity syndrome, starts with a trigger. It’s often an oral sound...

Thursday Doors!

image

I don’t often do the Thursday Doors, which is the brainchild of Norm 2.o, but when I find a spectacular one I like to join the fun. THis is the entrance to the Columbia Restaurant, which opened in 1903, in the Ybor district of Tampa.

Have a great night! ~Phil

TBT! My Name is Inigo Montoya…Prepare To Fly?

Since I’m in Florda as you read this I thought I’d pull out this classic Phil Factor from April of 2013 to pay homage to the great state of Florida. Considering that the movie Patriot’s Day just came out, the second line is kind of eerie

(04/20/2013) Wow it’s been a weird week hasn’t it? From the tragedy in Boston to the explosion in Texas to the nutjob sending poison-filled letters to politicians to American Airlines grounding a days worth of flights because of a computer ‘glitch’. That is...

Wordless Wednesday! Revenge

On a E. 7th St. in the Ybor district of Tampa there is a sidewalk filled with engraved paving stones. Some are memorials to a lost loved one with birth and death dates, some are inspirational messages, one is a wedding proposal, and then there’s this. I don’t don’t know who Brian is, but he made someone really mad.

Have a great Wednesday! ~Phil
