Falling into Fall: Books to read by the fireplace

Ahhh, chilly autumn evenings curled up in front of a fireplace with a mug of hot toddy ... nothing compares (except for lounging on a beach in Hawaii, but that's another story!) Unfortunately since I'm in school, I don't read nearly as many books as I used to, but I'm really happy I made time for these! Here are a few I have recently read and I'm hoping you add them to your fall reading list this year!
Thank you to Jasmine from the Flux a...

Throwback Thursdays! There’s a New Pope! (April 19, 2005)
Proving that #ThePhilFactor just might be one of the oldest continuous running blogs on the interwebs, today’s Throwback Thursdays post goes back to not the most recent Pope election, but the one before that. That’s right, The Phil Factor has now spanned two Popes and two Presidents. In fact Pope John Paul II died the day before The Phil Factor was born. Or did he die so that The Phil Factor could be born? Hey, it’s the circle of life. I don’t make the rules. What I think I’m trying to say he...

Just Clowning Around
I’d like to address a very serious subject that has been in the news this week thanks to the clown pictured above. . I’m talking about a malady if you will, that afflicts thousands, maybe millions, of people each and every day. It is a subject of such horror, such an abomination, that those who suffer from this disorder hide it, even from their loved ones. I am, of course, speaking of Coulrophobia. No, Coulrophobia is not the fear ofDave Coulier. If it were, that would be my problem. Well, me...

Throwback Thursday and The Poll Results!
First of all, the people have spoken. The Phil Factor motto will remainWhere Sarcasm Gets Drunk and Lets Its Hair Down.Since that was listed first I wonder if the poll might have turned out differently if I had listed the second choice,It’s Like Bacon for Your Brain, first.
For Today’s Throwback Thursdays post I took the Wayback Machine to June 2009 where, of course, I speculated what I might do with state mottos when I’m elected President or Sexiest Man Alive.
Is it just me, or does everyone th...

The Facebook Funeral
“Technology is the opiate of the asses” I thought I was clever when I wrote this back in 2006. Now I’d like to admit that I was wrong. As many of you remember, I attended my high school class reunion about six weeks ago. I had a great time reconnecting with old friends, catching up, reliving old memories, and talking about our families. One moment however jarred me emotionally a bit.
Over to the left side on a table by the wall there was a large sheet cake with a celebratory greeting to our gr...

Maybe I’m Edward Snowden: Fun with Search Terms
Remember how everyone was all upset about Snowden’s revelation that the government could be looking into all our online activity? If it upset you when the government was doing it, I wonder how you’d feel if say…somebody like me was doing it?
Here is a list of some of the best search terms of the last three months that brought people to #ThePhilFactor with my commentary on some of them.
Men with a scorpion tattoo in his ass: I swear this probably isn’t referring to me. In 2011 I wrote a post cal...
