Blogger Book Fair Day 2: Becca Campbell Interview
Welcome my lovely readers to the Blogger Book Fair of 2013! I must give a shout out to the amazing Kayla Curry for setting this all up! Please check out my blog each day from Feb. 7-10 for some interviews, guest posts, and giveaways!
Today, I am interviewing Becca Campbell, author of "Foreign Identity," "Not the Norm," and "Unmasked Alloy."
1. Why do you write?
I write because I believe that good fiction inspires, expands the imagination, and enriches lives. I write because I want to touch others. I write because I believe that good books can change the world.
2. What do you do to prepare before you actually begin writing? Music, tea, coffee, etc.?
I put all the kids to bed (I have three of them), grab a snack (usually something sweet and a beverage), and enter my cave (which is really just a corner of my bedroom with my desk).
For writing, I typically prefer silence unless I’m in the hard-core zone of NaNoWriMo or JuNoWriMo and then I’ll put on my Pandora Writing Music station which consists of mostly Apocalyptica and the Vitamin String Quartet.
When I remember, I pray before I begin my writing session. It really helps.
3. Do you have a writing routine/schedule?
I write in the evenings after my kids go to bed because I’m a night owl and I’m busy all day long. I also go to Starbucks regularly so I can get a long writing session in once or twice a week. Those bursts of productivity when I’m sequestered from my family really help my progress.
4. What’s your favorite part of the creative process?
I love the initial burst of inspiration, whether it happens spontaneously or in a deliberate brainstorming session. I really enjoy plotting out a novel, that “dating” pre-commitment phase of the author/story relationship that’s thrilling and seductive. I love it when an idea woos me and I can’t let it go.
My second favorite part is the first read-through of draft one. I typically let my drafts sit anywhere between six weeks and two years before I go back through them (with no peeking in the meantime!). Of course I find errors, plot holes, and other expected flaws when I revisit the manuscript. But that is the moment when it’s most like reading someone else’s story, because I’ve had enough time away for two things to happen. First, I’ve forgotten enough of the plot or details that it feels new and fresh, and second, I can actually see the beauty in what I’ve written and truly appreciate my own creation.
5. What is/are the book(s) that you are promoting?
Foreign Identity – A science fiction romance about two individuals who wake to find themselves trapped in a room with no memories of who they are or why they are there. You can enter the giveaway to win a copy here.
I also have two short stories in the Sub-Normal series: Not the Norm (#1) and Unmasked Alloy (#2). These stories are set in a dystopian reality where genetically enhanced humans populate earth, and the few who have refused superpower-style enhancements and chosen to stay genetically “pure” are labeled sub-normal and exterminated by the government.
You can pick up Not the Norm for free on AmazonFeb. 7th – 8th. I’m also running a giveaway of Unmasked Alloy. Go here to enter for a free copy.
6. Who is your favorite character from one of your novel(s)?
I don’t know if I should play favorites (you know how sensitive characters are), but the main character from my most recent manuscript was really enjoyable to write.
Her name is Eva Coderre and she has this really annoying tendency of accidentally turning invisible whenever she gets really nervous. Eva has her share of quirks, but the uncontrollable disappearing is by far her biggest flaw, especially considering the ten-year stint she was gone and couldn’t interact with people, but could only watch their lives play out all around her.
She has a dark side that few people are aware of, but she’s also a hopeless romantic. She’s had a difficult time letting go of her last boyfriend, case in point: it’s been ten years, and the mystery of why he broke it off is still eating away at her.
7. Any advice for aspiring authors who would like to be published?
1) Write as much as you possibly can.
2) Find other experienced, talented authors to mentor you.
3) Accept critiques and feedback humbly, and use them for the powerful tools they are, to help make your story better.
8. Is there anything that you are working on currently that we can be expecting?
I’m glad you asked. :)
My next novel, Gateway to Reality, will be released in March. It’s a mash-up of science fiction and urban fantasy, and has plot elements similar to The Matrix and Inception with a little romance thrown in for good measure. Here’s the blurb to whet your appetite:
Talented artists shouldn’t be waiting tables, scraping by, and living mediocre lives. But that’s exactly what art school graduate Wes Teague is doing.
Then he wakes from a bizarre dream, haunted by the sense that his life isn't real. A harrowing truth presents itself--the real world lies in his dreams, not when he's wide awake.
The dream world he enters each night is rich and vibrant. Chicago appears the same on the surface, but chaos runs rampant as gravity, physics, and other laws of nature become fluid, changing unexpectedly. There, Wes's parents, brother, and sister are strangers. His girlfriend Emily doesn’t recognize him. Suddenly Wes longs to return, to unlearn the truth about his dual reality.
Wes would sacrifice almost anything to get back to blissful ignorance in a false world.
But now he has feelings for the real Emily.
9. If you stranded on an island and you can only bring 3 books and one CD, what would you bring and why?
Books: the Bible for daily strength and encouragement, On Writing by Stephen King for writing motivation and tips, and something classic and slightly romantic to soothe my heart during the lonely moments. I’m not totally decided on the last one, but possibly either Jane Eyreor Magnificent Obsession. Those are both great stories.
Music: I’d probably pick something from my writing music station or a Death Cab for Cutie album.
Quick Fire Questions: 1. McDonalds or Burger King? Neither. I hate burgers. If I have to choose, I guess McDonald’s has better salads. 2. Coffee or Tea? Coffee
3. Book or Kindle? Kindle. I’ve been known to “tap” words while I’m reading a book, expecting the automatic dictionary to pop up.
4. Romance or Thriller? Thriller, but if it has a little romance, too, I’ll be the happiest.
5. Favorite book? The Host by Stephenie Meyer
6. Favorite movie? The Island
7. Favorite author? It’s a tossup between Ted Dekker and Hugh Howey. I’m a major fan girl of both.
8. iPhone or Android? iPhone
9. Favorite color? Green
10. Salty or Sweet? Usually sweet, but I like to alternate between the two.

Becca Campbell Bio:
An avid lover of stories that tiptoe the line between fantasy and reality (even when they plunge off one side or the other), Becca J. Campbell looks for new angles on bridging the gap between the two. She holds a special place in her heart for any story that involves superpowers or time travel. Her passion is defying the limits of her own creativity.Becca’s journey into writing began as many of her other creative endeavors do – by daring herself to try something new. The question “what if I wrote a novel?” and some hastily scribbled notes on a church handout were the inspirations that jump-started her first book. Since then, she has written half a dozen additional novels and several shorter works. As the wife of a musician and mother of three young boys, Becca’s life is never dull. Whether it is writing, painting or knitting, she enjoys making stuff that wasn’t there before.

Blogger Book Fair Day 1: Kristin Pullioff Interview
Welcome my lovely readers to the Blogger Book Fair of 2013! I must give a shout out to the amazing Kayla Curry for setting this all up! Please check out my blog each day from Feb. 7-10 for some interviews, guest posts, and giveaways!
Today, I have the honor of hosting Kristin Pullioff, author of “The Escape of Princess Madeline." She has answered some interview questions. Please be sure to enjoy the interview and please check out Kristin's young adult novel!
Kristin Pullioff
1. Why do you write? Writing is my creative outlet. Some people sing, some cook, some draw (you don’t want to see me do any of those), and I write.
2. What do you do to prepare before you actually begin writing? Music, tea, coffee, etc.? I have to be in my “zone” for writing. That means coffee and quiet. I usually take few deep breaths and try to clear my mind and then focus on the computer. Since my writing time is limited, when I do get it, I try to make the most of it.
3. Do you have a writing routine/schedule? I try to write every day. My primary job is being a stay at home mom to my kids, and that takes 100% of my focus during the day. In the evenings after the kid’s bedtime, I am lucky if I am able to write for a couple of hours. My primary writing time is on the weekend, when I can leave for a few hours and write while my husband watches the kids.
4. What’s your favorite part of the creative process?I love writing the first draft. I really enjoy getting the thoughts, the ideas on paper, and give them a life beyond my mind. It’s fun watching something I have imagined in my mind develop into characters, plot twists, conflicts and resolution.
5. What is your book that you are promoting about? “The Escape of Princess Madeline” is a fairytale for the whole family. Faced with an impending marriage, a knight champion, and a future that she did not choose, Princess Madeline finds herself in the middle of an impossible decision. Using her charm, strength and stubbornness, she defies the King, her father, at every turn, determined to keep her freedom on her terms. Follow Princess Madeline in this adventure full of twists and turns as she finds freedom and love.
“The Escape of Princess Madeline,” will charm you with its timeless tale, strong characters, positive tone and quick pace.
6. Why do you write for the Young Adult audience? This is such a fun age to write for. Young Adults are on the brink of stepping into their own, forming their own lives and choices. It’s an age of discovering who you are, finding your strengths and struggling to find your path. I find YA books can tackle serious issues while maintaining a sense of whimsy, fun, and innocence.
7. Who is your favorite character from your novel? I loved creating Princess Madeline. To me, she combined so many struggles that women face growing up and became a protagonist that was easily relatable to as a positive example. It was important to balance the hard and soft qualities of her – her rashness with intelligence, her stubbornness with strength, and her defiance with vulnerability.
8. Any advice for aspiring authors who would like to be published? My only advice is to always stay true to yourself and never give up. The only person who can live your dreams is you, so don’t give up.
9. Is there anything that you are working on currently that we can be expecting? I am currently working on the sequel, “The Battle for Princess Madeline.” Now that Princess Madeline has found her future, how far will she go to protect it- a true battle between good and evil.
10. If you stranded on an island and you can only bring 3 books and one CD, what would you bring and why? Wow… how about a kindle and Pandora!
Quick Fire Questions: 1. McDonalds or Burger King? McDonalds... What is better than a meal that is happy 2. Coffee or Tea? COFFEE!!! 3. Book or Kindle? I like both… kindle for travel & new ones, books for favorites. 4. Romance or Thriller? A thrilling romance? 5. Favorite book? The Giving Tree 6. Favorite movie? Tough one… Goonies, The Princess Bride, The NeverEnding Story 7. Favorite author? Dr. Seuss J 8. iPhone or Android? iPhone 9. Favorite color? Any shade of blue 10. Salty or Sweet? Salty

Blogger Book Fair Day 1: Sydney Logan Interview & Giveaway
Welcome my lovely readers to the Blogger Book Fair of 2013! I must give a shout out to the amazing Kayla Curry for setting this all up! Please check out my blog each day from Feb. 7-10 for some interviews, guest posts, and giveaways!
For our first post, we have the lovely Sydney Logan, author of "Lessons Learned," who answered some questions for you all. Hope you enjoy! Don't forget to subscribe and comment!
The Lovely Sydney Logan!
1. Why do you write?
Honestly, because I love it. I love creating realistic, romantic stories that tug at heart strings.
2. Do you have a writing routine/schedule?
My only true routine is that the noise has to be minimal. I love music, but I can’t listen to anything with lyrics when I’m writing. I can listen to instrumental music, although I have to be careful with that, too, because it can really influence my writing. I’ve never been good at writing on a schedule (which is probably why my first attempt at NaNoWriMo was a failure lol). The only real schedule I have is that I write mostly on the weekends.
3. What’s your favorite part of the creative process?
Editing is becoming one of my favorite parts. At that point, the story is finished. It’s just a matter of tweaking and fine-tuning. It helps that I have an incredible editor who encourages me and wants nothing more than for my story to be successful.
4. What is your book that you are promoting about?
Lessons Learned is about a high school teacher named Sarah Bray. In the prologue, she witnesses a school shooting. This traumatizes her and sends her running back to her hometown of Sycamore Falls. It is a small, tight-knit, conservative (fictional) community in the mountains of Tennessee. She reconnects with old friends and makes a new one, in the form of Lucas Miller. For our first post, we have the lovely Sydney Logan, author of "Lessons Learned," who answered some questions for you all. Hope you enjoy! Don't forget to subscribe and comment!

He has just transferred to Sycamore Falls from a school in NYC. They begin teaching at Sarah’s old high school, and over time, their friendship turns into love. One of Sarah’s students becomes a victim of bullying, and she finds herself helping him face his demons, as well as some of her own.

Sorry I've Been MIA. Blame Finals.
So, long time no read. Sorry bout it. I have been super busy with the release of "Forget Me Not," writing "Morning Glory," my first TV interview, and this thing called college. Stupid college. Why you make me write papers and take finals? Don't you know that I have a trilogy to write? Silly college.
Oh, did I say TV interview? Yes, you can watch me in all my awkward glory here: TV Interview and me being weird.
I have missed this blog and talking with all you lovely readers. I am so thrilled and relieved that "FMN" is finally available for everyone to buy and read. So much has happened that I'm a little overwhelmed by it. I had my first book singing, which is awesomely overwhelmingly crazy. I will attach some photos to this post so you can see my awkwardness and how I sign some books and stuff.
I need to thank my precious sorority sisters Hannah, Audrey, and Kelly for hosting and running the event. It was such a blast and I was only slightly weird that night. Being normal is tough.
Moving on, as soon as I finish up this semester I will be returning home to my precious baby kitten Jasper (he is my writing partner), to my Christmas tree, and to writing.
And then I will finish "Morning Glory" and hopefully send it off to my beta reader, Courtney, and then to my publisher. YAY! The book has been outlined and just needs me to give it some tender loving care and writing time without distraction from this crazy thing called classes. Ha. Ha. Who needs a degree anyway?
And maybe for Christmas, I will be giving you all a sneak peek to a chapter of "Morning Glory." I guess you all better be good. I'll talk to Santa. We'll see.
Also, there is a giveaway on Goodreads that will start tonight at midnight and go till January 5, 2013 where I will be giving away 2 signed copies of "Forget Me Not." You all should enter and tell your friends and stuff. Pretty please? It's gonna be awesome. I'll even draw you a cat next to my crappy signature.
At least that's what I did for my mom. But really. She handed me her copy and said sign this and draw me a cat. So I drew her a cat. It was pretty legit.
Well anyway, the link to the giveaway is here: Goodreads Giveaway Link
And I think that is all for now. I promise I will be in touch soon. And maybe I'll have a prize for you.
Me signing. With a pink sharpie. Don't judge.
Dr. Elaine Whitaker, head of the English department at GCSU, and I !
Yes, that is my mother taking a picture of someone taking a picture of the long line. Love it.
Me and my roommates, Kelly and Sophie!
Me and my Momma!
And lastly, a video of me reading part of "Forget Me Not." Weird: Me Reading. My voice is funny.

Cover Reveal: Insert Fangirl Scream...NOW!
So, long time no see! So sorry I have been slacking on the posts to this blog, but I think I may have something to make you happy. The cover to "Forget Me Not" is officially done and ready for to be looked at! AHHHH!!
Drum roll please.....
There it is my lovely readers. My official cover for my first novel and I want to cry. It's just so perfect!
Now, before you ask let me explain. The release date of my novel is soon. Like you can go ahead and order my novel...by the end of next week. Wait, WHAT?!?!
Yes, it will be available from my publisher's website, www.martsisterspublishing.com and from Amazon for Kindle. All other formats will take about 6 weeks before it will be available there. Therefore, my "official" launch date is pending. This simply means the date for when I will start having events and book signings is still up in the air. But for you to order the book is sooner than I had even dreamed. You could have my book in your hands in a little over two weeks.
Ah! So now that you have the beautiful cover, please check back here for more updates. Like my Facebook page for even more updates! I hope you all have a beautiful Friday.
And don't mind me. I'll just be drooling over my new cover!

That Awkward Moment When Your Characters Actually Exist
So, you know that awkward moment when a character from your head suddenly appears in your real life? You don't? Oh, well I do.
Yeah, today marks the second time that someone in reality actually looks like one of my characters from my book, Forget-Me-Not and the sequel, Morning Glory. What? This doesn't happen to normal people?
The first time I ever saw someone who looked like one of my characters was about one year ago, before Forget-Me-Not had been contracted for publication. Therefore, no one knew about my novel besides myself and my mother.
I was sitting in a college event that my Freshman Seminar had required me to attend. It wasn't much. Mostly young kids reading poems that they had written and the college students who had taught them were beaming with pride.
It was then, when the next group of kids and their college student teacher came up to present, that I saw him. If Cole Dyami had a twin brother, this man would be him. My main male protagonist from my novel, Forget-Me-Not, was now walking, talking, and physically in front of me. And being the mature young adult I am, I freaked out right then and there. In front of my friends. Who simply stared. Of course, I couldn't tell anyone why because I was too embarrassed.
But I seem like less of a freak now that I can explain how crazy this all really is. You know, a fictional character that somehow exists outside of the realm of books.
So now I can explain how a guy in one of my classes looks like another one of my characters. Oh, and they have the same name. The. Same. Name. Oh, you know, no big deal.
But, it actually is a big deal. Because I don't know how to handle the fact that twice a week I will have a guy in my class who looks/acts like a character from my latest novel, Morning Glory.
Why does my life suddenly feel like a weird romantic comedy?
Or boys who originally were in books, but escaped into the author's real life...
