Walking Through Midnight in Paris...No, but really!
Today, I left my beloved Vire and came to Paris where Dr. Elliott and I met up with the rest of our study abroad group and took a tour of the Latin Quarter. Dr. Elliott called her friend, Laurent, who is actually a French priest, who took us on the tour of this part of the city. Even though it was rainy and cold, the tour was absolutely magnificent. We saw such beautiful architecture and historic buildings and some even more beautiful cathedrals. We even got to see some places where my favorite movie, Midnight in Paris, was filmed. We also walked down the street where Ernest Hemmingway lived when he stayed in Paris.
I have been to Paris once before when I was sixteen and the city is just as beautiful and mystic as I remember it to be. Walking down the Parisian streets, it was so hard to believe that I was truly back in Paris – for over the next week! I am so blessed and amazed by this incredible opportunity. To learn more about this ancient city and its culture is just phenomenal.
On that note, I must also inform you all that my conversation skills have drastically improved! When Dr. Elliott and I were in Vire, we were interviewed by the Vire newspaper (I’m going to be famous, guys) and during the conversation, I suddenly realized something very important. I was listening/speaking in French and not even thinking about it. Like we do in English – we hear the words, visualize, and respond so quickly. There is no conjugation or wondering what vocab word we should use. It just flows. I had that listening comprehension realization! It was amazing!
Hopefully, I can continue on this French streak as I head to Brussels, Belgium tomorrow! Until then!

So I've decided to move to Vire, France...
Okay, just kidding. But I am loving life in Vire. Vire is the cutest little, French town that I have ever been to and I have seen quite a few cute, French towns. I came Monday morning with my professor, Dr. Elliott, to research a famous 18th century French writer, Madame Le Prince de Beaumont. She is most famous for her many, many books and pamphlets that focused on educating women. She also wrote a number of novels, one including the famous Beauty and the Beast. Here in Vire at the local library, they house her personal, actual, real, over 300 year old letters. That I touch. With my (properly gloved) hands. Reading, cataloging, and attempting to translate her personal letters has been overwhelming, but so incredibly cool. Reading her personal letters and manuscript notes is definitely hard work (these letters are hundreds of years old and are hard to read - plus they're in French), but unlike any experience I have had thus far.
And did I mention how cute Vire is? It's a small town in the region of Normandy where it mostly rains (yet it has been sunny for us the past few days), but has the friendliest people. The food here is amazing. So much goat cheese. On all the things. I love it.
It has also been a great experience to venture out of Strasbourg and into a smaller and more quaint town. I can definitely tell I am a small, French town kind of girl. Now while I've had a blast in Vire, I can't wait to begin my next adventure in Paris on Thursday. Tomorrow is my last day in Vire (don't remind me) and my last day doing my research on Beaumont's letters. Prayers for safe travels Thursday will be much appreciated.

Luggage, Cheese, and Bread...SO GOOD!
8 days after I was supposed to receive my luggage, it has finally arrived! While this past week in a foreign country with minimal clothes and toiletries has been challenging, it also has taught me so much. I now know that I can easily make an outfit for each day out of about 4-5 pieces of clothing and two pairs of shoes for 8 days. But I have also learned that one does not need physical things to enjoy life - the last week in Strasbourg was challenging, but so beautiful and wonderful and intriguing. But I'm still pumped to have my warm sweaters!
Now that I have my luggage, I can now really experience and enjoy the culture that France has to offer. It's been interesting to not only go to different stores and restaurants, but also get to shop in local super markets and even street markets. I've tried different foods - even l'escargot (that's snails for those who don't know). But my absolute favorite meal still has to be cheese and bread. It's so good here, you don't even know!
Today, my professor, Dr. Elliott, and I traveled from Strasbourg to Paris and are staying at her sister's apartment. Tomorrow, we take an early morning train to Vire where we will begin our research and read the 18th century letters of Madame Beaumont! The French literature nerd in me is giddy!
I will try to stay close to my computer now that Wifi is a little more accessible and will try to update this blog more frequently. À bien tôt!

And the Journey Continues...
So it's been one week since I've been in France and so much has happened. We've visited so many historical sites and even went to Baden-Baden, Germany yesterday. It's a beautiful German town that is known for its spas and baths. We toured an ancient Roman bath which was incredibly interesting. We also walked through an old rose garden that literally looked like it was from a movie (Pride and Prejudice anyone?) Such a quaint and beautiful town.
A few days ago we visited the European Parliament and the European Council which was an interesting insight into the political life and even the culture of France and Europe itself. Sitting in on an actual European Parliament Session was also super exciting and a great way to really understand how politics works and how it is put into practice in Europe. I am learning that understanding the politics and history behind France is aiding me in my understanding of the people and their culture.
The people of France and their way of life is the most interesting for me. Sitting in cafes, overhearing different conversations is bringing into new light these people and their lifestyle. In many ways, it's like the US, but also very different in other ways. I look forward to learning more and growing in my understanding of such a diverse town, like Strasbourg.

It's Been Quite the Journey: Cue in "Don't Stop Believing"
This blog post will be short because it is day four of my study abroad at approximately 11:37pm Strasbourg time. But I will say, yes I am alive and yes, I'm having a great time. Even though it started out a little rocky... Let me start from the beginning.
First, my plane was delayed so much, I had to switch flights at the last moment. Luckily, two of the other girls on the trip and I made it on the same flight but (and this is a very big but) the airline misplaced our luggage and now I am on day four of the same outfit. Not cute. After hassling the airport both in France and from parents back in the states, our luggage is to arrive (fingers crossed) by 2pm Strasbourg time tomorrow (PLEASE) - Hence the Journey reference in the blog title.
Now, while this has been super inconvenient and downright ratchet, I have grown a lot over the past four days. I have grown so much in trusting the Lord and in my faith. While I'm excited to get my suitcase and the things I need back, I've also learned that those things aren't necessary to truly experience life and joy. They are just things. Even with the inconvenience, this trip has been amazing and eye opening. Granted I will most likely jump for joy and cry real tears when I can wear some clean clothes and actually smell nice.
Since being on this study abroad, I have already learned so much history, culture, politics, and even some new vocab words. My language skills are better and I'm building my confidence by speaking with locals (ordering food is my speciality). Once we arrived in Strasbourg, France, we walked around the square, visited local shops, and ate some delicious food - literally bowls of cheese and bread (pictures to come). Recently, we visited the Strasbourg History Museum, the Alsace History Museum, and the local Cathedral. It is one thing to visit such an ancient city, but to also learn about its history and culture was amazing. The architecture in the Cathedral and even within the town itself is breathtaking. So many pictures to come in the next blog post. Don't you worry.
Tomorrow, we visit the European Council and hopefully (please pray people!) get our luggage and explore this beautiful city some more. I also hope to have more time tomorrow to upload pictures to my Facebook and this blog for your viewing pleasure.

I Leave in T-Minus 3 days, 1 hour, 9 minutes...
I can't even believe it! I'm only days away from going on my European adventure! While I am so excited for this amazing opportunity, I am also nervous and a little scared. This isn't my first time to France, but it is my first longterm stay in a foreign country. Yet, I have many exciting goals and opportunities while I am there.
First, I am hoping to be inspired and get some writing done on book three of the Forget Me Not Trilogy (yes, my lovely readers, I have not forgotten you!). With the long plane ride, different train rides, and days where I can sit in a French café with un café crème, a croissant, and my laptop, I will have time to type away!
Secondly, I get the opportunity to research a famous 18th century French writer and her personal letters in Vire, France with my lovely French professor. Jeanne-Marie Le Prince de Beaumont was a French author who is best known for penning the original "Beauty and the Beast." And I get to read, translate, and catalog the original, physical, real copies of her personal letters. Like in my hands. I get to hold them. And smell them.

Lack of Blog Posts: Send Complaint Letters to School and Finals Week
Well, it has been quite awhile. And a lot has happened since I last wrote. A. Lot.
I have finished up my junior year of college and now I only have one year left. Just one. And while I'm thrilled to be so close to my degrees, I can't help but think it's gone by too fast. I can't imagine saying goodbye to all my friends I have made these past three years. But thinking about saying goodbye to my best of friends, reminds me of another heart wrenching goodbye that is going to happen fairly soon.
Now that finals are over and I have most of the summer to write (I'll explain why it's only most of the summer - keep reading!), I must now get back to finishing up The Forget Me Not Trilogy. Meaning I must say goodbye to Adeline, Cole, and all of those characters from that world. I think I have been procrastinating writing book three (at the annoyance of my best friend, sorry Kelly!) because once it's written, it is done. Now, I'm not saying there will never be another book about Adeline and Cole. I'm not writing off that idea completely, but as of now, the story must come to an end. And it breaks my heart.
Yet, I'm excited at the same time. While I'm sad the story must end, I'm thrilled to share it with everyone who has been on this journey with me since I was first published a year and a half ago. I can't wait to see what you all think - book three is going to be a crazy ride!
Now, speaking of exciting things, the reason I only have most of the summer is because I am going to France for a little over a month in June and July!
In 38 days and 3 hours I leave for France and I am beyond excited. I'm studying abroad in Strasbourg and Paris where I get to do some research on this 18th century French woman author, Madame Beaumont. But more on that later.
I'm going to be posting specific blog posts about my travels on this blog for your reading pleasure. Plus I know that I am going to need to a place to upload pictures and pour out my excitement. EEKK! So more posts are to come (I promise!!) on writing book three and packing for France/living in France!
This last summer before my senior year will be busy, but exciting. And I look forward to sharing it all with you. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for sticking with me.

The Secret Behind Being Published that No One Ever Tells You
I know it has been way too long since I last made a blog post. I was going through a lot with the Holidays, Morning Glory being released, and classes starting back up. And honestly, I couldn't think of anything really good to blog about. But after attending a reading of another author (who shall remain nameless) I suddenly realized something that I think people need to know. Especially writers and aspiring authors. It's a big one. A huge secret that people in the literary world don't tell.
Being published will not fix you or all your problems. Being published will not make you happy.
I think for many young writers (and I'm totes putting myself into this category!) believe that once they land that book deal, they will feel fulfilled, appreciated, and most of all happy.
Wrong. So wrong.
Being published is great - a huge blessing, but it's not everything. If you're writing for the sole purpose of becoming published, then you should stop now, put the computer away, and find another way to try to "make it." Because it will not give you everlasting joy and peace. It can't possibly do that.
Now, going back to the reading I attended, I learned something very important. But it wasn't till after I had left and talked to someone who knew the writer well. This writer has many books under her belt, has won many awards, has many great reviews, etc. She has a great job and she's doing what she loves. I found myself wishing to be more like her. Until I heard what her friend had to say. Get ready for this.
She wasn't happy. She wanted more awards. She wanted more prestige. She wanted more recognition. You see, simply being published wasn't enough. She wanted more.
Let's be honest, we all have felt the same way this author did. We all want more of something. But hearing that this author, who is quite well known in the literary world, wasn't happy astounded me. But then I realized why she wasn't being fulfilled by the things of this world. Because they are just that. Things.
I don't hide the fact that I love Jesus. I give Him the glory for all my books because He gave me the gift and talent for writing. My trust, my fulfillment, my hope, my dreams are in Him. Not in the things this world has to offer. And I think that's why this author was so unhappy. Her whole life has been dedicated to uplifting herself, gaining more attention, more books, etc. But this world disappoints. And so do its things.
Even if I had never been published, I would still be happy, no joyful. I have Christ and that is more than enough for me. I have to remind myself of this every time I feel like I need more. I don't need anything but Jesus.
So back to my message to all those who want to be published. It is not a bad thing to want or desire. But it can't consume you. You can't think, "When I am published, then I will be happy and fulfilled." False. Wrong. Not gonna happen.
My biggest advice to aspiring writers has changed over the past two years. Forget the idea that publishing your book will make you happy and joyful forever. It is such a blessing. I'm not bashing published books or writers who have made it. But I am warning you of the danger of letting it consume you. Write because you have to write, because you love it, that your mind would explode unless you write. Not because you want awards or fame. Trust me, I have gone down that road and it is full of disappointment. Your life's goal has to be bigger than just being published and getting prestige. Being published is such a small thing to live for in the grand scheme of things.
For me, my life is to further Christ's kingdom, to show others His love, and to bring more people into the everlasting, awe inspiring, unbelievable, beautiful, and overwhelming grace and love of God. That's my mission. That's my life's goal.

The cover artist is still working on the cover and I can tell you it’s going to be beautiful. I can’t wait to share it all with you. We are hoping for a November release date, just in time for the Christmas season (my favorite season of them all). With the different changes necessary, it has taken a bit longer than expected.

I promise I haven’t been ignoring all of you on purpose; I’ve just been insanely busy (see prior post from August). Life sort of hit me in the face and I’ve been trying to play catch up this whole semester. BUT I promise your wait for my posts and for (drum roll please) “Morning Glory” will be over soon. My editor and I have been working really hard to make this novel the best it can be for all of you beautiful readers.
