Meet Me at the Pear Tree

Did I ever tell you why this blog is called “The Pear Tree?” And its flagship company Pear Tree House Productions?

Do you know why I go by “Mrs. Pear Tree” (or more likely, mrspeartree) on Instagram,  Twitter or other social media sites? Why I refer to my husband (his name is actually Kyle, btw) as “Mr. Pear Tree” and our kids as “The Little Pear Trees?”

For the Love of Dandelions

I shouldn’t tell you this. You might think I’m crazy. Then again, maybe I am.

I have this thing about dandelions. I’m kind of partial to them. I know, I know, but I did warn you, didn’t I?

Girl Time

Near the beginning of this school year, I enrolled Oliver in a co-op class for social studies and science, one morning a week. Partly it was to give him some exposure to a classroom, but mostly it was to give his little sister, Amélie, and I a morning together. Doing homeschool the other days, she tends to get pushed into the background a bit, and deserves a little bit of one on one time.

The Coffee’s On

One of my favourite things about the morning… or afternoon, or sometimes even the evening, is a freshly brewed cup of coffee. Café. Joe. Liquid Spirit. A good ole’ cuppa.

Even in the days when I was a starving writer, I made sure to have a good quality coffee maker, and my favourite, whole bean coffee beans (Cherry Hill Highlander Grog anyone??). “You don’t scrimp on coffee making,” was my excuse when friends would marvel at my beautiful coffee maker in my otherwise barren kitchen.

A Frozen Mantelscape

The world outside our home is frozen hard. A cold snap has turned our formerly slushy side-roads into outdoor ice rinks, and even the once-soft snow has become crusty and dry.

Resolve

I was contemplating a good Word of the Year for myself for 2013, and was not coming up with many ideas. Last year I picked “Grace,” and was moderately successful in working toward a more forgiving, accepting and generous me over the course of the year. Part of me would like to continue with that word for 2013, but there’s no reason I can’t keep incorporating grace into my life AND have a new word.

Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree with the Pear Trees

Leave it to Christmas to motivate me, after an embarrassingly long absence on this here website of mine, to start blogging again.

After a bout of blogger’s block, though, I’m feeling renewed and ready to put my life back out into cyber space.

Upon the Mantel Shelf

Earlier this summer I set out a new spread of decorations on the mantel. I like to mix it up every now and then, to keep it fresh – for myself, if no one else.

The World Through His Eyes

A certain aspiring young photographer has been harassing me for several weeks now to go out for “a picture-taking walk.” After lying dormant for close to a year, his Fisher Price camera was discovered and Oliver has been a photo taking machine.

Tales of the Mother Load Officially Launched

It was a small but supportive crowd that filled the seats of the downtown Okanagan Regional Library’s meeting room last night (Tuesday, 24 July) for the debut reading of Tales of The Mother Load.
