6 Weeks of Becalmed Weather!

Ahoy, mateys! It's been two long weeks since my last post, but my sails have been becalmed as I chart recovery waters. Aye, don't be downcast. I've got lots of things planned for ye all and I do hope you'll get a boon out of me news!

First, on September 26th, I'll be doing my first Goodreads Giveaway of autographed paperback copies of Lost Treasure, Captive Princess! The contest will end on October 29th, the first anniversary of the release of Duke by Day, Rogue by Night, my very first published romance. Isn't that a great way to start off the celebrations?

Plans aren't finalized yet, but I hope to have a little shabang for Duke's first anniversary too. Of course, this is something I can work on while becalmed. Right?

Second, there are some great things brewing. Funny how you can take becalmed winds and find productive things to do. I might not be able to spend more than 30 minutes at my computer yet, but ye ol' crow's nest is working again. Woot! And at high speed too!!!

So keep your eyes on that horizon, my friends. There's a BIG wind brewing on September 27th, if my stars align, with more giveaways galore on Paperbacks & Papercuts, where I'll be guest blogging.

http://paperbacksnpapercuts.blogspot....

Third, I hope you'll be as thrilled as I am. I'm writing a novella for the Nelson's Tea series! This will be a prequel. It's 1801 and Admiral Nelson has just been tasked with protecting The Channel. He knows more than anyone how ruthless Napoleon can be. A brilliant tactician, Nelson asks Simon Danbury, noted pirate hunter, to form a special force and train them in the ruses de guerre, concept of deception. An extremely private man and consumate bachelor, Simon enlists the help of a widow from his past ~ Baroness Chauncey. But the timid young woman he remembers appears like a lioness, thoroughly prepared to protect her cubs, as well as re-ignite passions he's spent five years trying to forget.

This is going to be one powerful and adventureous novella, me hearties! Steering for an early spring debut.

Aye, Katherine's been busy, eh? Keep your eyes on that horizon!

Blessings,
Katherine

Four Weeks!

TGIF!!! And wishing ye all a very Happy Labor Day Weekend!!!

Today is also very special because it marks the 4th week in my recovery from neck surgery. If you'd asked me a few days ago, I would've told you that I wasn't doing very well. Pain levels have been very high this past week. But an amazing thing happened last night that has given me a very bright perspective today... my rogue took me out on a 1.5 mile walk around the neighborhood.

First, when I say he took me out, that doesn't mean I haven't been walking. But there's nothing like walking with your rogue to make the daunting task that much more endurable.

Second, I was with my darling rogue. If he hadn't been with me, I would not have forced myself to take that extra lap. And if I had been alone, I wouldn't have been able to make it around at all because, during the second lap, I had to lean on him for support. Thankfully, he was there to bolster my spirits and keep me from falling.

Which reminds me... we often need someone watching over us to keep us from falling on our faces, don't we? It doesn't matter what our obstacles may be. Just having that someone there, in case, makes all the difference. Has there been an experience when you needed a helping hand?

Recovering from this surgery has taken all the energy out of me. And there have been times when I thought this recovery has taken my zest for living as well. But as in any situation, another day dawns bringing with it the sun and hopes for a brighter, healthier, more productive day.

I've got my eyes on that horizon, me hearties. Today appears to offer everything my heart desires. All it took was stepping out of my comfort zone and taking that extra 3/4 mile. All it took was leaning on my rogue and keeping my eyes on the prize.

My prize is you, dear reader. I'm working hard on getting healthier so that I can share more stories with you. So when I go out to walk this evening, and I'm determined to walk that extra 3/4 mile, I'll be thinking of you, me hearties. Every step I take brings me one step closer to finishing another book that I can share with you.

New horizons. Hope. Believing to receive. These all make the difference between succeeding and failing. As we step into the Labor Day weekend, step toward a brighter tomorrow with me, won't you?

Blessings,
Katherine

Taking It Easy

Wow! I've been away a good while, haven't I, me hearties? I have a good excuse, I assure you. You see, I had neck surgery three weeks ago and am still recovering. This was my second neck surgery in four years. The doctors had to go in and repair prior surgery issues in the front of my neck and then go in from the back to place two rods in my neck. I'm told I'm the Bionic Pirate now. Arrrrr!

While I've been recovering, I've been reading books I'll load in my "read" file as soon as I can. My time on the computer is very limited as of yet, however. (15-30 minute shifts.) I'm really looking forward to spending half a day on the computer, instead of thirty minutes. And most of all, I'm looking forward to getting back to work on Book Three in my Nelson's Tea Series, The Rogue's Surrender!

So for now, I'll say a hearty farewell. Look forward to chatting again with you soon!

Blessings,
Katherine

Pulling Into Port

Ahoy, me hearties! I'm pulling into port for a brief visit. I've been out of pocket for a while getting ready for the 2013 RWA Conference in July, which was a fabulous event, and one I almost had to beg off from due to problems with my neck. But I made it through and had a glorious time! When I returned home it was time to prepare for neck surgery, which I had August 2nd. The surgery went great and I'm on the mend. However, my time online is very limited so I do apologize for not posting much these days.

I appreciate everyone who has read and reviewed my books! You make this job worthwhile, me hearties!!! Without readers, there would be no writers. Without writers, there would be no need to read. We are all on this journey together and I can't wait until we meet here again.

Blessings,
Katherine

The Rogue's Prize is here!!!

It's release day, me hearties!!! I'm so excited that readers can now share Captain Henry Guffald's and Lady Adele Seaton's adventures along the Cornish Coastline to Spain, back to Cornwall and London! There are swordfights, fist fights, pirate attacks, steath mutinies, forced marriages, and more. Woot!

The very first scene in this book came to me while vacationing at Gulf Shores. Yes, I was sitting on the beach with a calm breeze ruffling my hair when Captain Belle showed up in chains. Oh! What a boon that was, I tell you. Right away I had to write the scene down, capturing the very essence of the story while gazing out at a crystaline sea. Inspiration doesn't get any better than that, does it?

Celebrating the release of book two in the Nelson's Tea Series began with my Goodreads Giveaway of book one, Duke by Day, Rogue by Night, which ends July 1st. Today, I'm at my blog hosting another giveaway, an ARC Ebook copy of The Rogue's Prize. Make sure to stop by and comment for a chance to win, me hearties!

Two And Nine!

Such an exciting time for me and you, me hearties!!! There are two days left before The Rogue's Prize launches toward your horizon and nine days until the winners of my Goodreads Giveaway for Duke by Day, Rogue by Night are announced!!!

How am I passing the time? My rogue took my mother and me out for a late birthday celebration last night, where I enjoyed a strawberry daiquiri and scrumptious chocolate dessert. Yum!!! And I got to go see Man Of Steel with Henry Cavill. Great movie filled with fabulous comic book adventure. Very nastalgic too as Superman has been one of the major players on the comic scene for as long as I can remember. Critics have mixed reviews for Man Of Steel but they tend to forget when Superman was created, post depression era when America needed a hero to assauge its woes. Iconic! Uplifting! Dependable! Trustworthy and moral! That's Superman.

Today, I enjoyed breakfast with my rogue and we checked out some cars as we're thinking of trading in our 2000 model for one with better gas mileage. And of course, what day could go by without writing, eh?

Until The Rogue's Prize comes out, here's a snippet for you to enjoy.

With escape in the forefront of her thoughts, Adele asked, “What are you going to do with me?”

“That is something I’ve been asking myself since the moment I saw you brandishing a sword in your hand.”

There was a gleam in Guffald’s eyes, a faint signature sign she recognized — respect, but also something more powerful — attraction. She’d seen the look on Harrison’s face. Lust! Guffald’s momentary lapse gave her an idea. She drew him in.

“Then don’t hold back,” she said. “Go ahead. Kiss me.”

His lips were mere inches away. His cynical eyes turned stormy as they examined hers. At his nearness, unbidden warmth enveloped her, setting off a maelstrom throughout her body. She could feel herself sinking beneath his blue-eyed stare. Determined, however, not to succumb and to keep her wits, she fought the inclination to close the distance and erected a barrier of anger around her. Focus, girl. Focus on what you really want — no, need. She needed to bring Captain Guffald to heel. Not the other way around. But to do so, she was going to have to tempt the devil, draw him close enough so the tips of his lips caressed hers. Then, just as he gave in to her seduction, she’d dispatch him, proving she was immune to him.

Yes, a good plan.

“Kiss me,” she repeated, her voice a tremulous whisper.

Tenderness softened his eyes. He moved in, touching his lips to hers just as she lifted her knee to do him harm. But instead of being startled, his reflexes were quick. Arrowing daggers at her, he stepped easily aside. Undaunted, she swooped underneath his arm, twisting sideways until she was behind him and whipped the chains in an effort to wrap them around Guffald’s neck. But the captain had already anticipated her attack. He countered her actions, ducking to the side before she could trap him. In an instant, he appeared behind her, pinning both of her arms to her sides.

His voice was cool, impersonal. “The cobra finally shows its fangs.”

Guffald didn’t give her time to react. He pulled her toward one of the hanging lamps where he swiftly attached one of her manacled wrists to a hook, and then pulled her other arm outward until he could latch the iron link to another hook on the bedpost.

Outraged, Adele screamed and rattled her chains. “You can’t be serious.”

“Aye,” he said, “I can.” He grinned and straightened his shoulders before easing a knife out of the waistband of his breeches.

Adele’s eyes widened. She was so furious she could barely speak. “W-What do you intend to do with t-that?” Her entire body grew rigid. Did he intend to rid himself of his current problem — her? Garrick will die if you kill me! she wanted to scream.

Oblivious to the fear and rage mounting inside of her, Guffald’s eyes took on a mischievous twinkle. How could he be so callous? For all that was holy, she was a woman! She kicked and thrust her feet into the air, desperately trying to kick him, wound him, anything to keep him from getting closer. But the more she jerked in an attempt to do him bodily harm, the deeper the iron bands dug into her wrists. As her anger became a burning fury, she yelped in pain until her bravado disintegrated.

When she’d spent her last ounce of strength, Guffald moved in closer and placed the dirk’s tip close to her throat. “You like to play games, don’t you?”

She choked down a lump of fear as he lightly stroked the knife along her jaw. “It depends on the game,” she said.

“I have a rewarding game in mind.” Guffald dragged the knife from her jaw to the tip of the collar of Winters’s uniformed coat. Adele held her breath as a grin overtook the captain’s features and he cut off the top button. Pop. She inhaled a swift breath as the now useless ornament dropped into his waiting hand. He cradled it there for a moment, as if weighing it, and then slowly lifted his gaze to hers. His sardonic smile intoned he wasn’t finished.

“What are you doing?” she gasped.

He laughed as if she was dense. “Cutting off buttons, of course.”

Female pirate? Sword fights? Mistaken identities? Rollicking good fun? What's not to love, eh? I do hope you'll give The Rogue's Prize a try and that you'll love these characters as much as I do.

Blessings,
Katherine

11 Days Left ~ Goodreads Giveaway!

It's Wacky Wednesday, me hearties! Mid-week hump. We're on the tail end of this week and headed for a #WW aka wonderful weekend ahead!!!

What's on my fav list this week? Will-I-Am's new cd. Songs like Good Morning, Geekin and #thatPower, plus The World is Crazy, are my favorites. (Picture me jammin on the way to and from work without any rum and you've got a good visual.) Life is so much better with music, don't you think?

5 days left until The Rogue's Prize releases!!! I'm stoked about June 24th and can't wait for your thoughts on this book. It was a joy to write!

Until next time, don't try to fit into a port hole.

Blessings,
Katherine

7 Days Until The Rogue's Prize Releases

"There she is!" Ten sets of wayward eyes arrowed toward the beautiful red-headed creature gliding toward them. Another warning. "She's not your average lady, savvy. No. That one's a hot-headed rebel. Don't turn your backs, men."

"Is she good with a sword?"

A large tattooed man turned and frowned, narrowing his gaze upon the man who’d spoken. "Good?"

"Good enough?” another man asked scratching his nether regions. "I ain't had a woman in months."

The Moroccan snarled and took a menacing step forward. He grabbed the scraggly pirate up by his collar and lifted him the two extra feet it took to bring him face to face. "Mind what you say about your captain."

"Captain?"

"Aye," he said. "Captain."

The lithe red-head in question sauntered up to the Moroccan. "Thank you, Husam.” She scanned the rag-tag group and then, fisting her hands on her hips, shouted, “Now that introductions have been made, its time to capture a Royal Navy ship."

Breathing a sigh of delight... I love a good teaser, just as much as Captain Belle!!!

Join me as I begin a whirlwind week, me hearties. You can find out where my sails are headed at: http://www.romancemagicians.blogspot....
