Kicking it Oldschool/ Squirrel of DOOM

So I stumble across free games from time to time – I found Heroine’s Quest through The Mary Sue. Let’s just say I suck at Adventure Games, but I can kind of wander through this one okay. If I can get through it, that means anyone who likes adventure/pick up items games will be fine. I love the norse mythos base and the color scheme is beautiful - so if you happen to be in the same deep freeze as the rest of most of North America, not a bad little freebie to play with while you avoid the outdo...

2014 Resolutions/2013 Hindsight

This is the longest I’ve been able to stare at a screen since Christmas Eve, so I might as well do my year-end now. Not a sympathy post – went to the doctor on Friday, apparently this flue is quite common right now but I’m on the mend.

Anyway, it’s time to do the “here’s what I did and what I plan to do next year” sphiel.

Last year, I wrote:

In 2013, I will:

1) Finish any lingering editing manuscripts that I was working on in 2012.

In a word: NO. I know I was writing back in the summer that I was...

Merry Belated Christmas!

I should have posted this two days ago, but let’s just say that on Christmas Eve after I saw the new Hobbit movie, my stomach/intestines decided something wasn’t agreeing with them. I spent most of Christmas laying down/trying to explain to the puppy that sick days are not ‘happy skippy oh boy you’re spending the day with me bestest best friend days’ while I periodically woke up with all manner of toys on or near my person.

Ah well – being a paramedic puts it all into perspective so it could h...

Champagne’s Online Christmas Chat TONIGHT

In about half an hour. I kind of suck with EST vs CST. Give me Zulu time.

Just go HERE. You don’t need a code, just a user name. My flaky self is on call, but I plan on being in attendance as much as possible (well, that and studying. I swear, as much as I love ongoing education sometimes… ahem. I’ll be the kid at the party studying).

Win a Print Copy of Tower of Obsidian/C4 Comic Con

I finally got the print version of Tower of Obsidian. To celebrate, I got a print giveaway of 5 copies. It’s open to residents of Canada, US, UK, and Australia. I’m not sure how much this’ll cost me, but eeeeh. I’ll pick up some overtime in November or December if I suffer that much.

Thoughts on the RWB’s The Handmaid’s Tale

Based on a Novel by Margaret Atwood

That’s what it says on my ticket

When I got there, my brain immediately went, “Maybe a ballet based on a science-fiction speculative fiction novel with a theme of oppression – specifically women’s reproductive rights wasn’t the best birthday present for mom.” But she loved it. She wasn’t familiar with the source material, but she got the idea. (And before anyone yells at me about being selfish– I’d forgotten they were doing this – I walked into buy the ticket...

Dragon! / Moar Goodreads thoughts

Sorry for the promise of discussions and dropping off the face of the earth – between this cold, my ACLS course and family goings on, I’ve been a busy little goomba. Also, been planning for C4 Comic Con so that’s been taking up a huge chunk of my time – here’s the finished picture of the dragon I commissioned Ingrid Glaw to do for the con (B & W), scaled down to fit most browsers:

And here’s the picture colored by the very talented Jazmyn:

So I played around with it, here’s some of the rejected...

Censorship and Book Reviews

With all the wankery that I’ve seen in regards to book bloggers in general, I want to thank you book bloggers for being honest with your thoughts. I know it’s hard – especially if you’re drawing fire for that honesty. I think society could do with more book discussions.

For me, as an author with a small-publisher, those of you who are willing to review my book and be honest about it, you’re giving me a huge gift. (And those of you who can’t because you’re back-logged, busy, I get it, and I ap...

NO

http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1499741-important-note-regarding-reviews

Let’s say, for instance, that most of those Authors Behaving Badly posts are crap – oversensitive crybabies that take things too seriously spoiling for a fight. I don’t think that’s reason to censor it.

Come on, fellow authors – Goodreads is a site for readers. Let the ones who cause trouble have their fun. I don’t like the idea of banning books – let’s not ban the discussion, even if that discussion isn’t to our likin...

An Interactive(?) Girl in the Tower

I stumbled across this in a discussion yesterday – I tried to download it to my phone this morning, but it says it’s no longer available. I watched the ‘game’ below, I think it’s missing a part at the very end. Still, how many times did you beat the game on the first try?

It’s more of an experience than a game, playing with the other side of the rescue the princess of the average game. It’s interesting someone made this – granted, when I was a kid, I was way more empathetic to the captured, an...
