Excerpt for Garnet and Silver: A Faerie Tale

I started G&S in December of 2007 – basically, I was in a much happier, hopeful place then I was when I wrote Tower of Obsidian. I wrote the bulk of it July 2009, and originally it was much shorter and I dropped the main characters off in what I can only describe for now as a dark place. Cream of Nobody liked it (why y’all think you deserve likeable characters and happy endings is beyond me), so about a year later, after workshopping it I ‘finished’ it so I didn’t make your kitten cry.

At a q...

Not-Affiliated, but happy to spread the word

If you happen to live in the Winnipeg area (or don’t care about the drive) the next ChiSeries Readings takes place next week, Oct 8 at McNally Robinson at 8PM – I couldn’t tell you about ChiSeries in Ottawa, Vancouver, or anywhere else they happen to take place, but if you’re feeling slightly neglected, I say head down to your local bookstore and find a reading by a local author. You never know who you’re going to discover. To learn more, go here. As for me, I work until at least 7 that night...

Cover Reveal: Garnet and Silver

GarnetandSilver

Not much to add, other then that I’m working on the edits, and I’m going ahead with it, barring my sister reading the book and hating it. No release date yet – doing the second-guessing thing, mostly. Yes, Self-Pubbing. No, not sure if that’s a good idea. Don’t really care – love the niece and I’m getting sick and tired of some of the media she’s inundated with.

There is a back and spine made too, but it’s not near as pretty.

As for me right now: Back to editing and I got some rough draft to...

Cultural Goings-On in Winnipeg: September Edition

This is by no means a comprehensive list, however, I found myself getting excited for the next few weeks and I realized there’s lots for us artsy-reader types in Winnipeg. If you know something’s coming up and it’s in Manitoba or at least something we could drive to within a few hours, please post (and yes, I know Thompson has had Thin-Air things in the past, and that’s an 8-hour drive from Ze Peg, but I like promoting local stuff when I can).

The Canadian International Museum of Human Rights...

And the Winners are…

Amy Bowens and Mad Hoyendish each won a $25 Amazon Gift Certificate after the tour with Goddess Fish Book Promotions. Thank you to everyone – as always, thank you for your honesty and thank you for taking your time to check out my books. I’m working on more stuff as we speak (well, I just had to kick the dog off of me to write this…) and I’ll hopefully have an announcement by September.

When Words Collide is this weekend – it’s on the to-do for next year, provided I’m not scheduled to work, I...

I ain’t Dead

Fingers are all healed, another book tour successfully completed (I’ll announce the winners as soon as I hear back from the Tour Organizer – believe me, I wanna post it) and I’ve been working like mad for the past month. Here in Southern Manitoba, we’ve had substantial flooding effecting a lot of rural folks, so between the flood-standby, special events (there’s a rodeo/festival/reason not to work every weekend) and me wanting to run to the lake, been sort of busy. Hopefully camping tomorrow...

Favorite Adaptations – and Why

Huge thank you to Straight From the Library for the first review of this tour – I’ll keep my answer brief, a picture below, please don’t look if you’re squeamish; I sometimes talk about my job with the civvies and I start grossing people out. Basically I plead stupid as to why I’m being so brief.

As of right now, I’d say my favorite movie adaptation is the Lord of the Rings movies. I don’t think they’re perfect by any means, but I watch them yearly with my dad and I’m constantly noticing new t...

Yet Another Book Tour

Sorry I haven’t been updating, but so much for lifehacks for a sore throat – this flue has literally been going on for about two weeks now. I’m mostly better but when the pager wakes me up and I go on the radio, I still sound like I swallowed a frog. Ah well; I’m stuck working this weekend but the weather is lovely (it got a little windy – the closer I go to the old homefront it keeps calling me back) and I just found out I got made permanent right near where I moved – so I don’t know my summ...

Life Hacks for a Sore Throat

I was really looking forward to this weekend – it’s like, 30-something celcius with the humidex, and I don’t have to sit at a convention or drive a lot, and I have four consecutive days off, which was something I had gotten used to before this term and my greed kicked in.

So naturally, I woke up yesterday morning with a sore throat. Rather, I woke up in the middle of the night with a sore throat, and my immediate reaction was, “Oh, not strep again.” Because light sleeper as I am, that’s the on...

And One More Thing

My Publisher is having a discount – half price all eBooks all weekend, until the end of tomorrow I think.

They’re redoing the website, so if you go to burstbooks.ca or whatever you’ll end up at the right place, so go to http://www.champagnebooks.com and you’ll be fine.
