I ain’t Dead

Fingers are all healed, another book tour successfully completed (I’ll announce the winners as soon as I hear back from the Tour Organizer – believe me, I wanna post it) and I’ve been working like mad for the past month. Here in Southern Manitoba, we’ve had substantial flooding effecting a lot of rural folks, so between the flood-standby, special events (there’s a rodeo/festival/reason not to work every weekend) and me wanting to run to the lake, been sort of busy. Hopefully camping tomorrow...

Favorite Adaptations – and Why

Huge thank you to Straight From the Library for the first review of this tour – I’ll keep my answer brief, a picture below, please don’t look if you’re squeamish; I sometimes talk about my job with the civvies and I start grossing people out. Basically I plead stupid as to why I’m being so brief.

As of right now, I’d say my favorite movie adaptation is the Lord of the Rings movies. I don’t think they’re perfect by any means, but I watch them yearly with my dad and I’m constantly noticing new t...

Yet Another Book Tour

Sorry I haven’t been updating, but so much for lifehacks for a sore throat – this flue has literally been going on for about two weeks now. I’m mostly better but when the pager wakes me up and I go on the radio, I still sound like I swallowed a frog. Ah well; I’m stuck working this weekend but the weather is lovely (it got a little windy – the closer I go to the old homefront it keeps calling me back) and I just found out I got made permanent right near where I moved – so I don’t know my summ...

Life Hacks for a Sore Throat

I was really looking forward to this weekend – it’s like, 30-something celcius with the humidex, and I don’t have to sit at a convention or drive a lot, and I have four consecutive days off, which was something I had gotten used to before this term and my greed kicked in.

So naturally, I woke up yesterday morning with a sore throat. Rather, I woke up in the middle of the night with a sore throat, and my immediate reaction was, “Oh, not strep again.” Because light sleeper as I am, that’s the on...

And One More Thing

My Publisher is having a discount – half price all eBooks all weekend, until the end of tomorrow I think.

They’re redoing the website, so if you go to burstbooks.ca or whatever you’ll end up at the right place, so go to http://www.champagnebooks.com and you’ll be fine.

Keycon 2014

It’s May Long, and for once, I got some of the long weekend off. Unfortunately I can’t make it to Keycon today as I’m back at work in Gladstone, but it’s been a busy few weeks and Ron will still be at the Radisson todayfor the next fewhourswith some books for sale, so drop by and say hi if you’re so inclined – ask him questions about our publisher or publishing in general, it’ll keep him on his toes. It’s also a great place to check out other local authors and other artists of the science fic...

FETABLE

That’s all the pictures you get in this post, sorry. One of yours truly taken by her awesome sister, who came with her last minute for the five and a half-hour drive. I’m a medic so I’m used to long drives, but she was a trooper. My publisher had to pull out but she said I could still use the table if I so chose, so I so chose and a huge thank-you to R.J. Hore who loaned me the Burst Sign and his merchandise so I didn’t look like a one-trick pony.

Neigh.

Had a really good time – met Peter S. Be...

Tours N Reviews N Things

Almost completelymoved into my new place – I started a term position at the beginning of this month,so let’s just say it’s been busy. I lucked out and got a place right on base and it’s a lot more space then I’m used to. The dog loves it so far, though yesterday he was playing with one of his new little furry friends and didn’t watch where he was going, so he ended up in a ditch full of water. Is it wrong my reaction was cackling? (He likes to swim and it’s relatively warm out for a change; I...

Why Independence Matters

Before I go into my sphiel, me and a few other Burst Authors are in the middle of a Tour – Check it Out.

Final Attempt to Plea for the Aurora Awards – nominations shut down in a few days (April 12). And you might be thinking to yourself, “Well, what’s it matter, in the end?” Let’s put it this way – last year, they send out Efiles on all the nominees so people like myself could sample all the award winners and determine the winner. I know it seems very small and trivial a thing, but this is so...

C4 Lit Fest Recaps

Before I go on about C4, I’d just like to give a shout out to several nominees regarding the Manitoba Book Awards - you know who you are.

And on that note, go vote for a Canadian at the Aurora Awards. And if you’re thinking to yourself, “Well, I don’t know any Canadians to vote for.” Look at that Manitoba Book Awards Link. Look below to some of the people I was with at the C4 Literary Festival. You have some homework in the meantime.

On to C4! Don’t know how it went on Saturday, as I almost got...
