Character Interview with Brylee Branson of The White Door

tourbanner

Today on the blog we have Brylee Branson, one of the character of The White Door by Christy Sloat. So let’s find out more about her.

Character Interview

Character Name: Brylee Branson

Character Bio: Seventeen year old Brylee can see and talk with the dead. She is originally from California but sadly now is stuck in New Jersey. She’s been in a great relationship with Ephraim Mayhew for the past year. He’s the only reason she stays in New Jersey. Without him she’d be lost.

Brylee

Describe yourself what is your worst and best quality?

Wow, describe myself. Okay, so I’m seventeen. I’m in my senior year of high school.

My worst quality: being told what to do. I don’t like bossy people

Best quality: I’m very loyal. No matter what I’ll always have my friends back.

What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?

I sorta wish everyone knew that I saw ghosts. Then again I’m afraid of their response. That’s the only reason I keep it secret.

What is your biggest secret something no one knows about?

I see and speak to the dead. They come to me and I solve their problems.

What are you most afraid of?

Losing the people I love the most. I’ve already lost Ethan and Lynley.

What do you want more than anything?

To go to college and marry Ephraim.

What is your relationship status?

I’m taken. Happily

How would you describe your sense of fashion?

I used to care too much about what I wore. I still dress cute don’t get me wrong. I adore Hollister and the Gap.

How much of a rebel are you?

Well, I have snuck Ephraim into my room while my parents are asleep. So I think that’s pretty rebellious.

What do you considered to be your greatest achievement?

I used to be pretty shallow. I overcame that and now I’m pretty compassionate. I’m very proud of that change.

What is your idea of happiness?

Me and Ephraim. That’s it. Anything that includes him makes me happy.

What is your most treasured possession?

A skeleton key that opens a room in my house. There is something hidden in there that I must keep safe.

What is your most marked characteristic?

People notice that I’m pretty. I’ve been told I could model but I don’t want to have a job selling myself for my looks. I’d really like to help people.

Which living person do you, most despise?

Probably the Mayhew boys

What is your greatest regret?

Not saving Lynley. It’s actually really hard to talk about.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

He has to make me laugh. If he can do that looks don’t matter. I’m pretty lucky to have Ephraim.

Who is your favorite hero in fiction?

I havent had much time to read or watch movies lately. I’d have to say that I enjoyed Katniss from The Hunger Games.

Which living person do you most admire?

My grandma. She taught me qualities that I needed to learn and incorporate in my life. I will forever be thankful to her.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

Sometimes I’d say that I wish I didn’t see the dead. And other days I’d say I would change a thing.

If you would like to find out more about Brylee and her world check out today’s book blast.

The haunting third book in the Best Selling Visitors Series.
“When I first moved here I was still a girl who cherished the normality of teen life. Now, after being here a year I had come to love a boy who was both strong and courageous. I made real friendships that would last even after death. The selfish girl my grandmother warned me of becoming had vanished. A girl who stood tall, with the powers to see the dead and help those in need, appeared in her place.”
In Brylee’s world, nothing is normal. She sees and speaks with the dead and, at seventeen years old, she already has a full plate. She’s in her senior year of high school and college is just around the corner, but only if she learns to control her gifts and survive in the land of the living.
She has succeeded in ridding her boyfriend, Ephraim, from the Brown family curse, but, in the end, her best friend loses her life. Now a whole slew of new problems present itself and, like always, Brylee is tempted to run for the hills. With Ephraim at her side, she must come to grips with the reality that she is not an average girl and she never will be.
What will happen when the town turns on her? Or, better yet, when a body is unearthed in her backyard? The choices that Brylee must make will determine whether she has a future or nothing at all.

“Branson!” Miss Hailey shouted at me from the front of the room while tapping her black ballet flats harshly against the floor. I hadn’t listened to a thing she had said, of course, so I just smiled at her.
“Yes Miss?” I said in the sweetest, most innocent voice.
“Why are you in my class if you’re not going to pay attention?”
Whoa! Ephraim was totally right about her being strict. “I love this class Miss. I was just worried about the storm is all. I have never experienced anything like this before,” I lied.
“Well,” she sighed. “I will forgive that. No one likes hurricanes, but they don’t stop the learning process.”
“Unless the hurricane kills you.” I looked up to see Kayla sitting on top of the teacher’s desk. I fought back the urge to laugh when she walked towards me. I sure hoped she wouldn’t mess with me now. She sat in the empty seat next to me and tapped her fingers on the desk.
“I always hated her, did you know that?”
I shook my head. How did she expect me to communicate with her in public?
“I’m here to talk to you about something important. Can you give me five minutes?”
I raised my hand to excuse myself to the bathroom and Miss Hailey obliged. I sped walked to the girl’s room as Kayla skipped behind me. I pushed open a stall and threw my hands up in the air. “What the heck Kayla? Here, at school?”
She laughed.
“Seriously? I know something’s up, but why not wait until after school?”
She leaned against the stall and sighed. “I told you things are weird with me lately. I don’t know what’s happening but I can feel a change coming. I… I…” Her mad rush to speak was suddenly interrupted by a choking sound coming from her mouth.
“Kayla!” I rushed to her and my hands went through her body. She wasn’t solid like normal. Something was wrong! Kayla had always felt like flesh and blood to me. Never like a ghost.
Suddenly her mouth opened and water poured out onto my feet, splashing my shoes and legs. I still tried but failed to help her. She was choking on water and, if I wasn’t mistaken, she was drowning. I was helpless and didn’t know what to do. Then before I could come up with an answer she uttered one word, “Diary.”
“Diary? Okay, where?” Any clue besides diary would have been perfect, but I was helpless now because she suddenly vanished.

Excerpt

He sighed and took his hat off to run his fingers through his hair, his frustration with her silence obvious. “Look, I’m sorry…” He looked at her and away, his cheeks turning even darker. His Adams apple bobbed as he gulped, but he brought his gaze back around to meet her gaze again, hungry resolve in his eyes. “I’m sorry for what I did to you in the woods.” He cleared his throat and settled his hat back on his head. She wasn’t staring at his biceps that bulged and flexed with the movement and the warmth in her belly had absolutely nothing to do with attraction. “There’s some powerful chemistry between us, sweetheart,” he finally said on a near growl. “And it just got the better of me. I swear I won’t touch you again until you want me to.”

With each word he spoke, her jaw dropped a little more until she was gaping at him, her brain firing on all cylinders as she processed his belief in his attractions. Okay, he was hot. He had that power thing mingling with some country-boy charm, which she found extremely sexy despite her natural repulsion of all things male. He knew how to ply his electricity in such a way that it made a woman cream with want. His body… The man had a body to die for and those tattoos just begged her to explore them with her fingers and tongue.

Even his confidence was sexy to an extent. Her brain rejected that thought. He was assuming she’d just fall into his lap like some slut. Because you totally did twice before, idiot, Sixteen reminded her with a satisfied chuckle. All that man has to do is lay a kiss on you and you’re a goner.

Her cheeks flushed at the reminder because it was true. He’d kissed her twice and both times she’d fallen prey to his power and that fucking chemistry she wasn’t prepared to defend herself against. It wasn’t as though it was something she’d come into contact with before. Sixteen was the sexual one, the one who discovered the men who wanted to be dominated by a woman. Gyda just let her have her way and pretended it never happened. So yeah, she had no idea how to fight attraction like this.

And he planned to use it against her. Holy shit.

  About The Author

clip_image004

Danica Avet was born and raised in the wilds of South Louisiana (that would be somewhere around Houma) where mosquitoes are big enough to carry off small children and there are only two seasons: hot and hotter. With a BA in History, she figured there were enough fry cooks in the world and decided to try her hand at writing.

Danica is the lucky pet of a compulsively needy dog and two cats. The pitter-patter of little feet has been known to make her break out into a cold sweat.

Writing is how she gives the voices in her head a way out. When she isn’t writing, working or contemplating the complexities of the universe, she spends time gathering inspiration from her insane family, reads far more than any sane person would want to, and watches hot burly men chase an oblong ball all over a field.

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I will not be reviewing my own story but the others. Well I have to say this one had it all. Sabella was one of my favorites. I am such a sucker for a good historical. With The CEO’s wife I was itching to find out the truth and boy was I relieved. The same goes for special delivery, I wouldn’t mind my hubby coming up with something fun like this. Our little secret was fun and just hot all over, and Ablaze made sure to end the anthology with a “What? No!!!!” I need to read the end of this one. Anchor group have an amazing anthology for all romance lovers, and I actually read this during lunch times and picking up the kids. It was so easier and I didn’t get frustrated once. A great read from start to finish.

View all my reviews       Excerpt From Sabella - Although I tried to avert my gaze, I couldn't bring myself to look away from his beautiful eyes. They pulled me in from the chaos like a lifeline. In the dark blue sea of endless comfort, I was calm and at peace. The last two days of confusion and the whirlwind of emotions were all settled in his eyes.   From The CEO’s Wife- Blair paused just outside the door to Evan’s office, her heart hammering in her chest. Just on the other side was her husband—her very rich, powerful, sexy husband. When had she become intimidated by him? When had the thought of initiating sex with him become something to worry over as opposed to something fun and sensual? When she realized she might lose him, that’s when. And now, it seemed like everything depended on what she did next. She needed to prove to Evan that she still wanted him, that she would do whatever it took to save their drowning marriage. She swallowed past the ball of nerves lodged in her throat and placed her hand on the knob. His secretary had told her that Evan was alone in there and had no more meetings until after lunch. Now was her window of opportunity. Yesterday, he’d gone into a hotel with another woman. A slip up she was willing to forgive him for just this once. After she rocked his world, of course. Remind him who he chose, she told herself for the millionth time. Don’t let him get away. She turned the knob and squared her shoulders, remembering her practiced seduction as she strode into the room, locking the door behind her. Determination kept her chin high and her expression sultry. Confidence swung her hips as she sauntered across the large office. Evan, who had been having a heated conversation on the phone, dropped the handset. Mouth hanging open, he stood. His eyes were wide as they took in her short, blunt blonde bob, fully made up face, black trench coat, and knee-high leather black boots. The heels clicked across the tiles as she came in front of his desk, pausing to strike a pose; legs spread, one hand on her hip. “Blair?” He smiled. “What have you done to yourself?” Blair caressed the strands of her bob and smiled. “It’s not what I’ve done to me,” she purred, “it’s more about what I’m going to do to you.” Evan’s grin widened as he fumbled for the dropped phone. “Carl? Let me call you back.” Without waiting for a response, he dropped the phone into the cradle and rounded the desk. Blair stopped him before he could grab her with a hand on the middle of his chest. She needed to maintain control of the situation and couldn’t afford to let him touch her just yet. Those hands of his had always driven her wild. She grasped his silk, blue and grey striped tie and yanked, pulling him behind her toward the desk. He followed happily, his hard body brushing up against hers. “I don’t know what’s gotten into you, but I like it,” he murmured as she turned him, pushing him to sit on the edge of his desk. He reached behind him, shoving papers and files out of the way and obediently perching on the large piece of furniture. “I seem to remember you always wanted to have sex in here,” she said as she reached for the belt holding her coat together. When Evan was newly promoted to CEO, he’d wanted to celebrate by taking her in the office, but Blair had refused. She’d been worried that someone would catch them, hear them, think she was trashy for doing it. Now she didn’t give a damn what anyone thought. If Evan wanted sex in his office then he was going to get it. From her. “I take it that’s still a fantasy of yours?” Blair snatched her coat open, revealing the corset, thong, and stockings beneath. They were black and trimmed in red, Evan’s favorite color. His lower lip disappeared between his teeth at the sight, zeroing in on her breasts—which were displayed gloriously in the cups of the corset top. “Hell yes.”   From My Beloved, Marie - I reached down and squeezed the water from the washcloth. “Please don’t, Jacob. I don’t look pretty anymore,” she sobbed. Reaching out, I slowly turned her around, her eyes trying to escape mine. Gently, I washed her arms, and then dipped the cloth in the warm water. “You will always be beautiful to me, my love. Even weak and underfed, you still take my breath away,” I replied softly. “How can you say that? Look at me!” She was angry, and I could understand why. “I am, my love, and I always will. I understand your anger and why you believe you don’t look pretty. But I didn’t marry you because of your looks. I married you because you were the bravest girl I have ever met.” I leaned in and kissed her stomach. “I married you because of those beautiful blue eyes filled with mischief.” I kissed her hip, and smiled as goose bumps broke out under my kiss. “I married you because of your stubborn nature, knowing that you would give me a good fight one day.” She laughed a little, and I kissed her other hip. Slowly, pulling her down on to my lap, I reached for her face and made her look at me. “I married you because you stole my heart the moment you looked at me. Yes, I see your body now as it is, but I also know that with my love and attention, you will be healthy again.” I kissed her on her mouth softly.   From Dinner Break - A More than Magic Series short story I sighed and opened my eyes. “I can’t,” I admitted. “I can’t think about anything other than that stupid rec center.” I tried, and failed again, to dislodge him and get up. “Mm. Not good enough. You know, you’ve been here since eight, right? It’s almost eleven. You’ve been working on that crap for fifteen hours.” “Jesus,” I groaned. “Has it really been that long?” “See why I’m forcing you to relax?” I sighed and leaned forward, until my forehead was resting against his. His skin was almost too cold, but I welcomed the discomfort. It gave me something else to think about. He draped his arms over my shoulders in a loose hug. His fingers ran down my back, rubbing in small circles, until they stopped on a painful knot. I closed my eyes, while he worked at it, and we just sat like that for a few minutes. By the time his skin had warmed up to my temperature, he had worked the knot out and found another. I leaned into his hand, feeling more comfortable and relaxed than I had in days. “You were right. I needed a break,” I whispered. Danio chuckled. “I know.” He moved his hand up my back and pressed his fingers against the taut muscles in my neck. A headache I’d had for hours started to mercifully recede. I opened my eyes and found his dark blue ones looking back at me. They were swirling with a mesmerizing blend of blues; a water elemental trait that I had never expected to be able to decode. But now, every shade and ripple was as clear to me as the flaring reds and flickering orange eyes of a fire elemental. His eyes were splashing with merry, relaxed shades of blue. Yet, I could see a telltale trickle of gray, just ebbing and flowing on the edges of his irises. He was still worried about me. I tilted my head, just a little, leaned forward, and kissed him.     Trailer http://youtu.be/HLgQ_QY_qE0       Giveaway   1 x $25 Amazon Gift Card 3 x $10 Amazon Gift Card E-book Of A Magic Semester Aboard by Elizabeth Kirke E-book of Unhappily Ever After by Anchor Group E-Book of Fairy Tales with a Twist by Anchor Group E-book of Dragon Wars by Emily Fogle E-Book of Chasing Flames by Emily Fogle E-book of The Groom by Elise Marion E-book set of Kasadya Hellhound Series by Karen Swart E-book of Hidden Demons by Dawn Gray E-book of A Garden of Eden by Katie Cowan a Rafflecopter giveaway     About The Author

She now has an amazing 7 year old son and a beautiful baby boy.
She dedicates the majority of her time taking care of her family, volunteering at her son’s school, and being a Cub Scout Den leader. And though she loves every minute of it, the thought of being a writer still tugs at her heart. So, after the busy days are done and everyone is finally sleeping quietly, she squeezes in time for all the other loves in her life: the characters running wild inside her head.
Now, incredibly, her writing dream is also coming true. Her first novel, Dragon Wars, is being published by Anchor Group. Emily feels sincerely blessed to have been given so much in life and can’t wait to start the next chapter.

clip_image016 Elizabeth Kirke wanted to be an author before she even knew what an author was. She used to say that she wanted to be an artist, but that was only because she was too young to write and had to tell stories with pictures instead. She hasn't stopped writing since she learned how. It wasn't long before she dreamed of becoming an author and couldn't be happier now that that dream is a reality.
If she isn't writing...well, let's be honest; if she isn't writing she's probably on Facebook thinking that she should start writing. But, if she isn't writing or on Facebook, she's probably doing something involving books, baking, gardening, or yarn.
Like most slightly-nosy, avid readers, Elizabeth can't resist trying to catch a peek at books she sees people reading when out in public to see if she can figure out what it is. While doing just that one day, she realized that it would probably be the coolest-thing-ever if she caught a complete stranger reading one of her books. That's her new dream.

clip_image020 Windy City writer Elizabeth Marx brings cosmopolitan flair to her fiction, which is a blend of romance and fast-paced Chicago living with a sprinkle of magical realism. In her past incarnation she was an interior designer—not a decorator—which basically means she has a piece of paper to prove that she knows how to match and measure things and can miraculously make mundane pieces of furniture appear to be masterpieces. Elizabeth says being an interior designer is one part shrink, one part marriage counselor and one part artist, skills eerily similar to those employed in writing.
Elizabeth grew up in Illinois and has also lived in Texas and Florida. If she's not pounding her head against the wall trying to get the words just right, you can find her at a softball field out in the boonies or sitting in the bleachers by a basketball court. Elizabeth resides with her husband, girls, and two cats who've spelled everyone into believing they're really dogs.
Elizabeth has traveled extensively, but still says there's no town like Chi-Town.

Author Interview with Patricia Proctor, author of After The Summerland

After the Summerland Banner 450 x 169

Today we have author Patricia Proctor on the blog for an interview. We would like to thank Patricia for stopping by today and sharing with us. So sit back and here we go.

Author Interview

Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

Ever since I was a little girl I’ve been in love with the written word, so a part of me always wanted to be a writer. But my love of books and reading inspired me to be a librarian, so I have my degree in Library and Information Science. For now, I’ve chosen to dedicate all my time to my writing rather than working in a library, but if I weren’t a writer, I’d definitely be a librarian.

When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

Honestly, I didn’t think of myself as a writer until I published my first book. Something about sharing my words with others made it official in my mind. I know that a writer is still a writer without a reader, but having readers just really made it feel official to me.

How long did it take to get your first book published?

Well, I self-published rather than working with a publisher, so it took me about three months from writing my first words to when I published my book on Amazon. I’m so grateful to Amazon for providing a platform for indie writers to self-publish!

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

Well, I have two books that I’m currently working on. The first one is actually the fourth book in the Witches of Spring Hill series, called Distracted by Fate. It continues the story of the Alexanders and Silvans as they embark on life after high school – I left quite a teaser at the end of book three, so I won’t say more than I already have. I’m also working on an adult fiction, dystopian-esque, psychological thriller about a small group of individuals who are trying to survive in a world that is unrecognizable, while searching for the cause and cure that will prevent society from changing completely. I don’t have a name yet for that book, and I’m not sure which of the two I will publish first – it just depends on which calls to me more.

How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

With the last three books, it took me about two months to write the book, and then one month of editing. The idea for the first book had been in my head for six years, but I was busy going to school and working so I just didn’t have time to sit down and write until January of last year. The fourth book in the series has been a work in progress for a couple months already and probably won’t be finished for a little while yet. And with this new series that I’m working on, I had the idea last year and I started writing in January. This one’s also taking a little longer than the first three books, which I attribute to it being such a different style than my other series.

What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

I have many exciting stories just waiting to come out, which is why I have two books pulling on me now! And although the Witches of Spring Hill series is young adult fiction, the other book I’m writing is adult fiction, so I plan to go back and forth between the two. I also tend to write in the thrillers/suspense genre, but in the future I will definitely branch out into others depending on where my imagination takes me.

What genre would you place your books into?

The three books in the Witches of Spring Hill series are in the young adult/paranormal/suspense genre. I think of them as coming of age stories with a paranormal twist.

What made you decide to write that genre of book?

When I initially had the idea six years ago, I didn’t plan for it to be a young adult book. It evolved into that when I worked at a library and had the wonderful opportunity to talk books with young adults. I read a lot of amazing YA books myself, and it made me want to be a part of that genre. I like that the YA genre reaches both teenagers and adults, and of course, the paranormal genre is exciting to read and write!

Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?

One of my favorite characters in the Witches of Spring Hill series is Kamila, who is introduced in the second book. I don’t want to give too much away to your readers if they haven’t read the first one yet, but what I like about her is her strength, wisdom, and overall personality. I especially love the role she plays in Rowan and Liam’s lives.

How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?

I’ve been writing my whole life in the form of journaling and poetry, but I’ve only been writing books for a year. Although it was always a dream of mine to write a book, I was never sure what I would write about. Then I started paying attention to my dreams, and that was where my inspiration came from. I have very vivid dreams and can remember a lot of the details when I wake up, so I jot the details down, and flesh them out into stories. I was also fortunate to have college professors encourage me to write – it gave me the boost I needed to get started.

Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?

I do have a certain routine when I write. I start at night, so the first thing I do is brew a cup of green tea to help me stay awake. Then I sit down at my desk around 10:00pm, which faces the window where I have a view of the Space Needle (I live in Seattle), and I re-read what I wrote the night before and do some editing. I usually finish that by around by 11:00pm and then I immediately start writing and continue until about 3 or 4 in the morning or until the ideas stop flowing. Sometimes I listen to music, jazz mostly, but sometimes nature sounds (I especially love the rain). I find my “sweet spot” to be between 2-3 in the morning – I call it the witching hour!

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?

I do read all the reviews, and of course the positive reviews just make my day. On the flip side, the negative reviews break my heart. Even though I know that books are so subjective, I just want everyone to enjoy my books! I honestly didn’t consider people reviewing my books when I published them, and I’m so glad I didn’t because I think I would’ve spent way too much time worrying about it!

Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?

With the first book in the Witches of Spring Hill series, After the Summerland I wrote the first few chapters first, and then I came up with the title. But with the other two books in the series, Breaking the Bond and Crafted Truths, I chose the title first.

How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?

Most of the names of characters in The Witches of Spring Hill are Pagan names chosen to reflect an aspect of their personality. To give an example, Liam means ‘protector’, and he is a guardian of witches. The witches’ and guardians’ names were chosen that way, but the other names were just randomly chosen. As far as the name of the town, Spring Hill, I chose that based on the idea that the hill where the witches live is always in bloom – with the magic that’s used there, it’s as if it’s always springtime, thus Spring Hill.

Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?

I develop character traits and the story line as I write. I’ll have a loose idea, but it’s not until I’m in the moment that I decide on specific details. And sometimes I’ll end up changing traits as I go along, especially if the story line changes.

Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is..")

Rather than specific morals, there are tidbits of wisdom in my books. I try not to make it too in your face, but I personally like a book that offers insight or a different perspective of situations that most people have experienced or may experience at some time or another. I like subtle messages when I read, so it was natural for me to write the same way.

Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?

I can’t choose one – I love them all! I haven’t always loved ebooks, though. When they first started becoming popular, I called myself a purist and adamantly refused to read an ebook. And then one day I realized that what I love is reading – it doesn’t matter the format the words are in, it’s the story I love. I’ll read anything you put in front of me, including cereal boxes, so it didn’t make sense that I wouldn’t read ebooks. Now, it’s my mission to tell others how great ebooks are, especially when there are so many brilliant indie authors with amazing stories that are only available in that format.

What is your favorite book and Why? Have you read it more than once?

I truly do not have a favorite book. I have read so many amazing books that I couldn’t possibly choose just one. I rarely read books more than once though, not on purpose anyway. There are just so many great books, and as it is I don’t have enough time to read them all.

Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?

I wish books transferred to movies better than they do. Some movies are better than others, and it definitely seems that if you haven’t read the book, then you don’t know that the movie doesn’t do the book justice. I loved the book The Time Traveler’s Wife, but people around me in the theater who hadn’t read the book were thoroughly confused. I got what was going on, thought it was done as well as it could’ve been, and totally loved the actors, but it just didn’t adapt so well on the big screen. I don’t really have a favorite, but I thought Bridget Jones’s Diary was done pretty true to the book, and Lord of the Rings was spectacular as well, though it had been many years since I read the book.

Your favorite food is?

Mmmm... Spaghetti and garlic bread!

Your favorite color is?

Purple, all shades, but especially the darker, richer plums.

Book Description:

Teen triplets are shocked to discover they are the reincarnation of three witches living on sacred land. The land magnifies their abilities, making them more powerful witches – and targets. They aren’t the only ones aware of the power the land gives . . .

Chloe, Kaiden, and Rowan Alexander can’t wait to meet the new triplets that have just arrived in town. They are determined to find out if they are anything alike. The attraction is instant, though they soon discover they share more than just being fraternal triplets – in fact, Brianna, Cian, and Xavier Silvan are also witches with a secret of their own.

They must overcome their distrust of each other and join together to fight a much stronger witch, who wants the sacred land for more than the power it gives.

It’s a paranormal coming of age story where the teens discover the purpose of their existence, explore their new powers, new relationships, and overcome family secrets, all while becoming stronger witches. They must learn quickly so they can protect themselves and the people they love from the force of dark magic bearing down on them.

Excerpt

Rowan sees the looks on the faces of her friends as she approaches, and laughs inside at their neediness. Everyone thinks she cares so much about what other people think, but actually she couldn’t care less. Her favorite part of her day is the morning when she gets to see how her ‘friends’ fawn all over her. Such a game, she thinks, as she decides who she will sit next to at lunch, who she will text after school, and who she will share her ‘secrets’ with. It’s not like she does it to be mean, she just likes to see how far she can go. She likes to push limits and unfortunately for her ‘friends,’ they are her pawns.

Today she really did want to get to school early because she wants to be one of the first people to see the new kids who are starting today - two boys and a girl. Triplets just like her, Chloe, and Kaiden. It’s not everyday they meet others like them and she can’t help but wonder if they are as different from each other as she, Kaiden, and Chloe are.

“Ro? What are you thinking about?” Kristen asks. Rowan hates when anyone other than her family calls her “Ro” so she snubs Kristen and turns to Jessica and asks, “Did the new kids get here yet?”

Jessica, pleased with the attention, shakes her head and looks at her phone for the fifth time. “It’s only 7:15 though, so they’ve got 10 minutes before the first bell rings.”

Rowan looks out to the parking lot and watches a shiny, black SUV with tinted windows pull in. She rolls her eyes knowing that it’s Tyler White, who will no doubt start bugging her about going out on Friday night. She turns her head away so he doesn’t get the impression that she cares. Tyler is a senior and really shouldn’t be pursuing her as doggedly as he is. If her dad only knew how hard he was trying to get her to go out with him, he would arrest him for disorderly conduct or something.

Kristen, trying to get back on Rowan’s good side says, “Rowan, Tyler is heading this way. Do you want me to deflect him for you? I really don’t mind – I mean, the guy is fine.”

Rowan glares at Kristen and says in her sweetest voice, “Kristen, he is only looking for a piece of ass, so if you want to, um what was the word you used? Oh yes, deflect him – by all means go ahead.” Kristen, realizing once again that she has failed Rowan, walks away from the group without turning back.

As Tyler approaches, Rowan notices a sleek white Mercedes pull up to the curb, completely out of place in this town. Before Tyler can say anything, Rowan turns her back on him and looks for both her brother and sister. Kaiden makes eye contact with Rowan immediately and breaks away from his group just a little bit. Chloe, in the middle of a conversation, stops abruptly, stands up and moves away from her friends to make eye contact with both Rowan and Kaiden.

When the three occupants slide out of the car, the hairs on Rowan’s, Kaiden’s, and Chloe’s arms raise. Instinctively, they break completely away from their friends and come together. The energy is electric and all three Alexanders are shocked that other people don’t seem to notice it.

The first person to get out of the car is a tall blonde girl with green eyes. She is wearing all black except for her jewelry, all expensive looking, in various shades of green. She takes in her surroundings and then makes eye contact with Kaiden. Kaiden can’t help but smile at the girl, who smiles sweetly back at him.

The second person to step out of the vehicle is a tall boy with jet-black hair and eyes to match. He is wearing dark blue jeans and a tight black shirt that shows how much time he spends working out. He doesn’t bother taking in the surroundings and zeroes in on Rowan. She gasps and the usually perfect Rowan staggers a little under his scrutiny. For the first time in a long time, Rowan wonders how she looks to someone else.

Finally, the third person steps out of the car. Looking slightly disheveled with brown hair and piercing blue eyes hidden behind glasses, wearing khaki shorts and a plaid shirt, he looks around and settles his gaze on Chloe. Chloe feels her heart pound harder in her chest and an unusual fluttering in her stomach that reminds her of the butterflies that flit around the flowers in the garden. It feels as though time has stood still until the door of the Mercedes slams shut, bringing everyone back to their senses.

Although it seems like time stood still, in reality, only a few moments has passed. As everyone else gets back to whatever it was they were doing, it seems as if only the six of them have connected. Rowan is the first to acknowledge what happened, “Did anyone else feel that?” she whispers to her brother and sister. They both acknowledge her question with a nod. “What the hell is goin’ on?” Kaiden asks.

Brianna, Xavier, and Cian Silvan know all about the Alexander triplets. They have spent the last three months learning the ins and outs of the town and more specifically, learning about Peter, Marcus, Liam, and the triplets. They were not, however, prepared for the intensity of the three’s gaze when they first laid eyes on them. How appropriate that they would be together, front and center, in front of the school upon their arrival on the first day of school. Most surprising is that they were standing together. Their Aunt Selene told them that the Alexander triplets never spend much time together, each being so very different from one another, especially at school where they stick with their own groups of friends, their own cliques.

It’s not that they expected it to be easy to come between them, but they did not expect the trio to put up such a strong front on the first day. Brianna nudges Cian and says, “How come no one told me how cute Kaiden Alexander is in person?”

Xavier throws an unexpected grin at his sister and replies “Probably for the same reason nobody told me that Rowan looked like that – Aunt Selene doesn’t want us to be distracted by how they look.”

Cian doesn’t say anything because he already decided that he would be a voice of reason in all matters related to the Alexanders. He would not, absolutely would not, do anything to harm them, especially after seeing Chloe in person. He read the bio that his aunt made up about her this morning at breakfast and can now sense that Chloe is a gentle soul and he does not want to cause her any pain. No, he will protect her and all the Alexanders – even if it means going against his own family, especially his aunt and brother. He knows he can convince his sister to stop this madness, but his brother will need persuading.
