With her newfound abilities, Rowan hopes to uncover the mystery of the new girl, while protecting Chloe and Cian from whatever… or whoever is breaking their bond. Excerpt

Rowan comes back to the present and quickly pulls her hand away, eyeing the new girl, who smiles wickedly at her. She looks at her friends to see if they noticed anything, but they are absorbed in a conversation and unaware of Rowan and Amber’s interaction. Thankfully, whatever just happened between them was obviously not big enough to garner attention. Rowan wonders if Amber even knows what happened or if she just thinks she won the social competition between them, which is a total laugh, Rowan thinks to herself.

Rowan glares at the new girl, looks her up and down one more time and walks away. She searches the crowd for Chloe and Cian and finds them standing close together, whispering to one another. She makes her way over to them and is not at all surprised when they don’t even notice her. She clears her throat and they separate just enough to let her into their space.

“Hey, Rowan,” Chloe says, smiling when she sees her sister. The smile quickly fades when she sees the look on her sister’s face.

“I need to ask you guys about what happens when you have a vision, because I think another one of my abilities just manifested.”

Cian and Chloe pull Rowan away from the crowd and over to the dark side of the house. “What happened, Rowan? Did you just have a vision?” Chloe asks.

“I was just talking to the new girl – have you been lucky enough to meet that one?” Rowan asks, rolling her eyes. When both Cian and Chloe shake their heads, Rowan continues, describing what happened. “As soon as I touched her hand, I went into the vision. And it just so happened to be a vision of the night we killed Selene,” Rowan finishes in an angry whisper.

“Whoa, Rowan! Our visions don’t work that way. Our visions take us into the future, never into the past,” Cian says, looking to Chloe who nods her head in agreement.

“Well, this is just great!” Rowan exclaims, exasperated. “I wonder what the hell this means.”

“What what means?” Xavier asks, stepping around the corner, startling Chloe, Cian, and Rowan.

“God! You scared the shit out of us, Xavier!” Rowan says, breathless. “Couldn’t you have at least warned us you were there? And stop lurking, already, and get over here.”

“And where would be the fun in that?” Xavier replies, stepping out from the dark corner. He can’t help but think about how much he loves how quick Rowan is to anger. He’d much rather see this temper and attitude on her than see the sad girl who felt left out when everyone else’s abilities were manifesting and hers weren’t. This Rowan is strong, confident, and sexy as hell.

“You won’t love my attitude when I start swinging, Jet,” Rowan replies, returning to the nickname she gave to him the day they met. When he first moved to town, he started calling her ‘Red’ because of her auburn hair. She immediately nixed it, but he didn’t seem to mind that she never dropped her nickname of ‘Jet’ for him, referring to his black hair and black eyes.

“Rowan? You just responded to my thought… when did that ability manifest?” Xavier asks, clearly surprised and wary about how much she “heard.”

“Strong, confident, and sexy as hell,” Rowan whispers in his ear, nipping at his earlobe.

“Enough, you guys,” Cian interrupts, knowing that Rowan is only playing games with Xavier while Xavier’s feelings are genuine. “So… two new abilities manifested tonight? Is that right?” Cian asks Rowan.

Rowan nods her head and looks around at the confusion on everyone’s faces. “Maybe it’s just because we’ve all been spending so much time together?” she asks hopefully.

Chloe looks at her sister skeptically, “Why would two of your abilities manifest so suddenly?”

“Maybe it’s the new girl,” Rowan answers, only half joking.

“What new girl?” Xavier asks, realizing he missed more of the conversation than he thought.

“The tall, curvy blond… Amber. She said she’s new to Spring Hill,” Rowan says, looking around the corner at the party going on in the front yard. She immediately spots her friends, but doesn’t see the blond anywhere. “That’s weird. She’s been with my friends all night, but now I don’t see her anywhere.”

Cian, Chloe, and Xavier look out, scanning the crowd for an unfamiliar face. After a moment, they all agree that everyone at the party is someone they recognize.

“Just be careful, Rowan,” Chloe warns. “Something doesn’t feel right about this. I don’t know what it is, but we can’t deny that you slipped into the vision after shaking that girl’s hand. Maybe it’s a coincidence, but just be cautious around her until we know more about her.”

“Let’s go back and look around,” Cian suggests. “Maybe she’s in the house or in the side yard.” Although he agrees that something isn’t right about what happened, he feels adrenaline coursing through his veins. He can’t deny that he is excited about meeting the new girl.

Rowan looks over at Cian and realizes he doesn’t know that she just heard his thoughts and felt his excitement about meeting Amber. Rowan looks at Chloe, who is oblivious to it all and is making her way around to the front yard where the party is in full swing. Rowan shakes her head at Cian’s back and swears that if he hurts her sister, he will pay.

Describe yourself:

I’m 5’11” and have an athletic build. I have black hair and dark brown eyes, so dark they look almost black. I’m a fraternal triplet with my brother, Cian and my sister, Brianna, and as far as I know we have no other living relatives. About five years ago, unique abilities began developing and I learned that I am a witch. Just a year ago, I learned I have a strong tie to black magic and have to be cautious about practicing.

What is your best and worst quality?

My best quality is my strength, both mental and physical— I can handle anything. My worst quality is my cynicism.

What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?

I’m a man of integrity.

What is your biggest secret something no one knows about?

I’m a lot more sensitive than people know.

What are you most afraid of?

Never learning the truth about my family, especially my dad.

What do you want more than anything?

Rowan.

What is your relationship status?

Single, and waiting for someone to get over herself so we can be together.

How would you describe your sense of fashion?

Jeans and a t-shirt. Is that fashion?

How much of a rebel are you?

I’m definitely a rebel. I don’t conform easily and I’m not a fan of rules.

What do you consider to be your greatest achievement?

Overcoming the pull to practice black magic with my Aunt Selene.

What is your idea of happiness?

Happiness is when my favorite teams win, the end of a long run or work out, getting kissed by a beautiful girl, and eating a good burger. No really, to me happiness is contentment and knowing that I’m where I’m supposed to be right now, in this moment.

What is your current state of mind?

Somewhere between relieved, hopeful, and concerned, depending on the moment. There’s a lot going on right now...

What is your most treasured possession?

Memories and photos of my parents, since they’re all I have left of them.

What is your most marked characteristic?

My wit, though sometimes it gets me in trouble.

What is it that you most dislike?

Dishonesty.

Which living person do you most despise?

I don’t really despise her, but Kamila Goodwin isn’t my favorite person right now.

What is your greatest regret?

Allowing Selene to come between my relationship with my brother and sister. Although things are fine now, I wish I wouldn’t have trusted her so blindly. I’m not sure if things will ever be the same.

What is the quality you most like in a man?

Loyalty.

What is the quality you most like in a woman?

Confidence. I love a woman who’s comfortable in her own skin.

Which living person do you most admire?

If my dad were still alive, I’d choose him. Other than him, I admire people who overcome difficult odds or challenges to make something of themselves.

If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?

My tie to black magic... sometimes I worry that I could hurt others if I lean too far over the precipice to the dark side.

What is your motto?

Trust your own compass.

Excerpt

“What are we doing here?” Maya asked when we pulled up to my shop.

This date was about remembering our first meeting, for her to see how I truly felt.

Taking her face in my hands, I caressed her cheek with the tip of my fingers and leaned forward to ghost my lips over hers.

“Where did we meet, Maya?” I asked, then waited for her reaction. She didn’t disappoint.

A small smile overtook her face. “Here.”

“So where else would I want our first date to be?”

Maya giggled, confusing me. “This isn’t our first date, Talan.”

“No? Are you sure?” She nodded, still laughing at my confused state. “I don’t remember taking you—”

“Shush,” Maya placed her finger over my lips, “our first date happened right here a few months back. The same night we discussed your tattoos.”

“But you said . . .” I trailed off; this having a woman shit was confusing.

“I know what I said, Talan.” She sounded exasperated and all traces of humor left her features. “I asked to date, to make us official.”

“Why didn’t you just say so?” I grumbled while rubbing my temples.

“I did; you just heard what you wanted.” Bitty raised an eyebrow at me. “Now, feed me.”

“You drive me insane.” If I didn’t care for this woman, I would strangle her.

My words were met with another raised brow and a saucy smirk. “Then I’m doing something right.”

I laughed at her reply. What could I say to argue that logic? She had every right to act cocky at the moment. Bitty had me by the balls and knew it.

“Stay.” Turning off the engine of my truck, I unbuckled my seatbelt and got out of the car. Maya stayed inside, waiting on me. “Ready?”

She nodded.

I unbuckled her seatbelt, grabbed her by the waist, and helped her down. Her small frame slithered down my body, rubbing against my hardened cock.

“For you? Since we met.”

“Behave.” My warning was met with defiance.

Maya’s hands grabbed onto the front of my pants. She pulled me forward; my erect shaft nestled between our bodies, pushing against her stomach. “Feed me.”

“Hungry?” I grunted when her right hand dipped inside my waistband.

“Commando?” She moaned, ignoring my question. Maya ran the tip of her fingers around the slit, rubbing the liquid there over my swollen head. I shivered while watching, mesmerized, as she brought the glistening digits toward her lips and sucked.

“Maya, please. Let’s go eat. You have to be starving.”

“I am,” she whimpered, as my flavor danced over her tongue. Maya winked at me then shimmied once more against me. The head of my cock—now purple and swollen—peeked out from the waistband, searching for her touch.

“Quit fucking around, Bitty.” Growling under my breath, I tucked my dick back into my pants, much to her disappointment. It’d been torture not taking her, but it was getting worse than before. We were both so close to that moment and we knew it. “I ordered in.”

“Warned you; I’m hungry.” She ignored my statement and instead pulled me down to her level. Her eyes shone with emotion, deep and as pure as she was. “Don’t care about food.” Maya bit my lip, hard. “Feed me.”

“Fuck.” She killed my will, my need to show her I wanted more from her than just the sweet pussy between her thighs.

“First, food, and then for dessert, I’ll give you my cock,” I whispered—more a plea than a bargain—against her lips. She bit down once more and backed away, leaving my lip bruised and tingling.

“Tempting.” Bitty stepped back. “Convince me.”

“Okay.” I took a step forward and backed her into my truck, my fingers tangling in her hair. She opened her mouth to speak, but my finger over those succulent lips silenced her. “Quiet.”

Maya whined against my hold. My hips kept her in place, taunting her, I ground my hardened length against her.

“We’re going to enter my shop and enjoy all the hard work I’ve put into this date. Nod if you understand.” She did. “I want to enjoy you.” Bitty moaned at this, and swiveled her hips into me. “Feed you. Don’t take that away from me.” At those last words, a soft expression overtook her face and she stilled in my arms.

She sighed. “You win.”

“What was that?” I asked needing to hear her say it again.

“You win.” Maya smiled and pushed me back with a gentle shove. “I want it all. You, me, and this date . . . the small talk and flirting. Maybe even another orgasm at the end of the night?” She was too cute when showing her neediness.

“No more harassing me?” I gave her a playful smile.

“For now.” She winked then pushed me toward the front doors of my shop.

“Stop.” I turned to face her. Maya’s look was confused, but her confusion turned into that burning need I loved when she realized what I’d pulled from my pockets. “Turn around,” I demanded and she complied.

She did. No questions, just obedience. I could get used to that.

“I’m going to cover your eyes.” My words were met with a needy whimper. Maya pressed her body closer to mine. The heat coming off her skin seared me.

“How do you expect me to behave if—”

“Quiet. Not a word,” I whispered into her ear and laid a small kiss on her neck. “Just enjoy.” The small blindfold I’d pulled from my pocket dangled from my finger. Her eyes followed its movement.

I wanted her to see the words etched onto the silk fabric, the ones I’d chosen just for her: Marked.

It said everything I felt. Every one of my pores, every cell in my body wore her stamp—her mark. Now, she would wear mine.

EXCERPT:

I couldn’t wipe the grin off my face as I slid into my truck. I had woken with a raging hard on with Amelia’s ass pressed into my dick. I slowly slipped from my side of the bed and watched on as she rolled over onto her back, arm above her head facing my side, her left leg bent up and completely and utterly naked. My eyes devoured her from the tip of her head all the way down her lush body. If I could get any harder I did when she dragged her own hand down her body and rested on her lower stomach. I couldn’t hold back my desire of her.

I had woken her with my mouth between her legs, the sweet taste of her nectar still lingered on my lips. As I turned out of our street and headed towards headquarters, I ran my tongue along my lip savouring the taste. Remembering her sweet pleads for me to fuck her, the moans that turned me inside out and the way she gripped my cock before I came inside of her. My back stung from her nails as she scratched down my back as she screamed my name.

Sex with Amelia was nothing I had even imagined, but something was different, her taste was sweeter than normal, more sensitive than usual and she wanted me constantly, well she did originally, but it was like every second she was rubbing herself against me. The last month was sex, sex and more sex. I wasn’t complaining about it, I loved every second of being inside or her. Her wet pussy. Her mouth, shit I couldn’t keep thinking of her this way. I only just left and I was hard for her again. Shifting into second gear as I rounded the corner, at 6a.m., there was traffic everywhere. If I left it a little longer I could have escaped this madness, but if that happened, I’d end up being late for work, as I’d be buried deep within Amelia’s core.

94884507b   party Come and join Dakota’s Birthday Celebration with us. https://www.facebook.com/events/247498752041179    excerpt   Around 1:00 on the morning of the 27th, a person from the OB floor called my name. I motioned him over. He grabbed the wheelchair and pushed me through the halls. Mom and Greg followed closely behind. When we finally got to the sixth floor, they took me into triage room one.
“Hello, what brings you in?” The woman asked as she came in.
“I think we’re about to have a baby.” I answered her with a smile.
Why else would we be there? It’s not everyday people like to hang out in the OB part of the hospital for no reason at all.
“Okay, you’ll need to strip from your waste down. I’ll need a sample of your urine here in this cup and put the rest in the plastic bin. I’ll be back in a few minutes to hook you up.” She instructed as she pointed to the small toilet in the room.
It was a good thing I had to go. I looked over at my mom and Greg as I said, “Hope I can do this without peeing all over the place.” Of course, I tried to make both laugh and succeeded. As I pulled down my panties, I noticed a small amount of blood. My mom and Greg noticed too.
“The bloody show. You’re definitely not going anywhere any time soon.” My mom said with a smile. “We’re gonna have a baby!” She chanted excitedly.
The only thing I could come back with was, “Or she’s in distress.”
“Don’t think like that. All will be fine. Have some faith.” My mom said to calm me down and comfort me.
Once I was ready to get on to the bed, I slowly made my way with Greg’s help. I laid back and the contractions were much stronger. Around one in the morning, the nurse finally came back in, shut the door, and walk to the left side of the bed. She grabbed a strap and placed it on my belly. “This will monitor the contractions, which I see you’re definitely having.”
Once the strap was in place, she fiddled with the machine for a few minutes and said, “Let’s find that heartbeat.”
She grabbed the gel, put a good bit on my belly, and grabbed the Doppler. Once she spread out the gel, she started searching for Dakota’s heartbeat. I couldn’t wait to hear it. It was only a matter of seconds before I’d hear it.
She kept moving around on my belly. I pointed to right side of my belly button and said, “This is usually where my doctor found her heartbeat without a problem.” She moved the device there. We still didn’t hear anything.
After another squirt of gel on my belly, she searched again. My heart raced and panic overtook me. Something was wrong. I could feel it. I glanced at my mom and Greg. They were worried too. I saw Greg swallow hard and turned my attention back to the nurse.
“Sometimes it takes time to find the heartbeat. The baby could be lying with her back towards yours, which makes it hard for the machine to pick it up. I’m going to get an ultrasound machine. That will definitely pick it up.” The nurse said, as she placed the Doppler back and walked out of the room.
My mom saw worry and panic cross my face. She stood up from her chair and walked over to me. “Let’s pray” she said. My mom, Greg, and I said a quick prayer while we waited on the nurse. Within a few minutes, the door opened and the nurse pushed in an ultrasound machine. She plugged it in and turned it on.
As she stood to the right of me, Greg and my mom were on my left. My mom held my leg and Greg took a hold of my hand. I eagerly wanted the nurse to put a fire under her ass and hurry up. It seemed like everyone and everything started moving in slow motion. The nurse began looking at Dakota through the ultrasound.
At first, I couldn’t tell what was on the screen. What I noticed was that she was not trying to hear her heart but to see it. That was when it came into view. My daughter’s heart was not beating. I rubbed my eyes, thinking they were playing a trick on me. The nurse stood up and walked out of the room without saying a word.
Moments later, three other medical personnel walked into the room. They whispered in their small circle where we couldn’t hear and continued looking at the screen. The room was quiet. I heard the ultrasound machine running and could have heard a pin drop. I knew my baby was gone by the look on their faces, but no one said anything.
“Ummm, hello? Someone tell me what’s going on?” I yelled. I was tired of it. I knew what this meant, but I wanted them to say it. It was not final until someone had said it.
The doctor closest to me said, “I’m sorry. She’s gone.”

Alice hides a dark secret. Many rogues have come and gone in past years, but if people only knew how dark her so-called gift was, they would reject her. Attack her. Kill her. Where can she turn? Sage is the one that connects them. The one that offers hope to them both. Little is known about him and precious few have seen him. So why is he the only one that the U.N. is afraid of?   book links Amazon / Goodreads clip_image003 clip_image004   excerpt Click.  Clack.  Click.  Clack.  Click.  Clack.                 Carter cringed with every step as he heard the metallic clashing of the chains that bound his wrists and ankles.  United Nations soldiers surrounded him: one at each side, two behind, and two in front.  They walked with their firearms close to their chests, ready for action at any moment.  He scanned his surroundings, looking for an exit: blank white walls, glass security panels, and grey tile ceiling.  Blue uniformed soldiers guarded every door, and he saw the door to his doom approaching.  He could see no windows looking into the room, only a solid white wall and the grey door, guarded by two soldiers.                 Click.  Clack.  Click.  Clack.                 The soldiers stopped at the door.  They exchanged a few words, told the guards of the door why they were there, showed their I.D.s, then entered the room.  It was far less menacing inside than Carter had imagined.  There were none of the flickering bare light bulbs, blood stains, or pungent aromas of decaying bodies that he had conjured in his mind’s eye.  The room, like everything he had ever seen in this building, was remarkably and shockingly bare.  So bare, in fact, that it was creepy.  Was this routine for them?  Was it normal?  Was there nothing extraordinary, nothing even immoral about what they were going to do?                  They walked him to the wall on his left, and a touchscreen panel popped up.  One of the soldiers pressed a few buttons and he felt his wrists and legs pin against the wall.                  “Sure is a sticky situation, eh?” remarked one of the soldiers to his buddies.  Soldiers often made comments like this, but always to their friends.  Common soldiers were forbidden from talking to prisoners, especially rogues.                 Ten gunmen filed in from a door on the opposite wall and lined up with their guns pointed upwards.  Behind them approached an agent, instantly recognizable with his black and blue suit.  He held his military stance with his hands behind his back and recited the appropriate words.                 “William Carter Jackson.  You have been found in violation of Sovereign Order 21, which dictates that no biologically outstanding person, defined as those exhibiting phenomena deemed supernatural or otherwise extraordinary, shall be allowed to live, under the equal opportunity statutes of the first United Nations Sovereign Order.  Your crime has been deemed punishable by death, and will therefore be carried out in a swift and humane manner, by firing squad, authorized by this Agent Sebastian Jefferson.  Do you have any last words?”                 Carter lifted his head and established eye contact with the agent.                 “Yeah, I do.”                 He waited for the soldiers to shift, to listen to what last words he had.  None of them budged, but that didn’t change what he had to say.                 “What’s so wrong with having good hearing?”                 “Ready arms,” said the agent.                  The boy refused to break eye contact.  He looked the agent in the eye, determined in a last act of ideological rebellion that they would not ignore him.                 “Fire.”                 All ten rifles fired at once.  Blood spattered the wall behind the boy and spread into pools on the ground.  The force broke the wall’s magnetism, leaving the boy lying upon the ground.                 One of the soldiers who had escorted the boy knelt down and took a look at him.            “Affirmative,” he said.  “We’re clear for the clean-up crew.”     z5356418f239e6 I’ve found that a lot of mainstream music (music with words) distracts me. Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

I can only ever remember wanting to be a writer. I started writing my first story at about age 8; I started writing my first novel at age 12.

When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

Probably the first time I completed a first draft.

How long did it take to get your first book published?

Editing and shaping up included, probably about four months or so.

Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?

I’m still in school at the moment.  I’m attending Purdue University, majoring in Public Relations.

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

My latest book is Finding Sage, and to summarize it I’d say: People with superpowers are hunted in a dystopian future by a Fascist world government.

Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?

I’m self-published and proud of it.

How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

It’s previously taken me about 2 years, but the Finding Sage sequel, if all goes according to plan, will have been in less than 6 months.

What can we expect from you in the future?  ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

I plan on having four books in the series started with Finding Sage, but I also would like to write a space opera story and some urban fantasy and paranormal stories.

What genre would you place your books into?

Dystopian. Other stories that I’m working on would be science fiction and fantasy.

What made you decide to write that genre of book?

Fascination with 1984, and the realization that other things could be combined with it.

Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?

That’s easily Eli. He’s very eccentric, being basically a spacy, airheaded hippie. As you can imagine, that’s a lot of fun to write.

How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?

I’ve always been inspired to write, just as an extension of loving to read.  I’ve been writing since I was 12 and more seriously since about 17 or so.

Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?

I usually listen to soundtrack music while I write.

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?

                Always.

Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?

The title always comes after, and it usually changes two or three times after that.

How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?

For character names I frequent baby name websites. For places, I usually just throw together random syllables until something clicks.

Are character names and place names decided after their creation? Or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them?

                Names always come after creation.

Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?

Usually before writing a book, although I sometimes create new characters in the middle of writing, in which case their traits are obviously done as I go along.

Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is..")

Yes.  But I like the readers to discern that for themselves.  I will say that Finding Sage was originally supposed to be about political persecution, but I think it ended up being about something else that I think is actually cooler.

Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?

Generally hardback, but eBooks are cool because they’re inexpensive.

What is your favorite book and Why?  Have you read it more than once?

Unwind by Neal Shusterman, because it’s the only book to keep me up until 2 a.m. I haven’t read it more than once, mostly because the series isn’t done yet.

Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?

Typically they don’t, although there are exceptions. I do like Return of the King. The worst would definitely be Eragon.

Your favorite food is?

Mexican food, or anything with cheese.  Or cheese by itself.

Your favorite singer/group is?

Hands Like Houses

Your favorite color is?

Green and blue. I like them both.

Your favorite Author is?

Neal Shusterman is my favorite living author. My favorite non-living author is C.S. Lewis.

Excerpt

Storm of the Century

It was 1981, and a year since James Greene’s deal with The Gentleman. Days ago, he’d fled from the terrors in South Carolina for the Florida Keys. He intended to reach the Keys before the sun rose, but the storm that put cannon-sized dents into his truck in the wee hours of the morning spoiled his plan. Worst of all, the feeling of someone watching and following him had heightened after he’d entered Florida.

When the droplets of rain became tiny atom bombs exploding on the windshield, he’d swerved around potholes and driven slower than the speed limit to avoid driving his 1959 pickup into a muddy quicksand. The condensation on the windshield formed faster than his wipers could clear it off. As the rain fell harder, gallons of it flooded the inside of his truck by way of the rolled down window on the passenger’s side.

“Damn it! I had only one hundred miles left.” He slammed his fist into the steering wheel. The impact left knuckle marks in the plastic and bent the frame. After taking a deep breath and a swig of rum, he looked on either side of the road for a place to hole-up until the storm died.

Only dreary trees lined the sides of the road. Then, finally, a sign for The Hotel Love Nest blinked on and off beside the road as he drove past. James mashed the brakes to the floor, turned his truck around, and drove back in the direction of the hotel. His bag splashed onto his floorboard, into the swimming pool that grew with each passing minute. As his tires screeched, they pushed slushy mud up and sprayed rocks in every direction.

He parked his truck, more crooked than usual, in front of a rundown hotel. It had all the makings of a bad-side-of-town look. As the rain increased its frenzy and cascaded harder from sky, he rolled the passenger window up to prevent more from pouring inside.

“Okay, one, two, three!”

On three, he opened his door and battered through the storm, until his boots landed in a large puddle outside the main office. He ignored it and continued toward the door. The rain confused his sense of perception, and he overshot the distance to the handle, causing him to open the door with his shoulder, shoving his way inside where he collapsed onto the floor.

Once the door shut, reducing the sounds of the raging thunderstorm, he stood and wiped the rain from his face. With clearer vision, he saw a man with stringy hair, coke-bottle glasses, and greasy clothes sitting dangerously close to a black and white TV behind the desk.

“Hey,” James said and waved his hand to the guy.

The man paid him no mind and watched a woman on the tube scream as a monster slashed her throat.

James moved his hand to his side with stealth and unsheathed his knife.

“No,” he whispered, squeezed his eyes shut, shook his head, and snapped closed the button to the knife’s casing. “Hey buddy, I need a fuckin’ room.” James smashed his hand on the bell that sat on the desk.

The man moved around to face him. “Ten dollars.” He turned back to the TV.

James ripped out his wallet and put the soggy bills on the counter.

After the man had removed the key from the wall, he slid it over to James. “Room four,” he said while gawking at the TV where a townsman was dragging the monster from its hole. He stuffed more donuts into his cavity-corroded mouth.

“Thanks,” James said and ran back to his truck for his soaked bag.

The rain pelted his skin; the gusts slapping his face and slowing him to a fast walk. Because of the hurricane force winds, the truck’s door weighed a thousand pounds, and he had to dig his feet into the mud to yank it open. After removing his bag and shotgun, he hustled to the sidewalk, but not before grabbing the two sets of dog tags that hung around the rearview mirror. As he stepped onto the sidewalk, the hotel roof finally provided relief from the storm.

He reached into his pocket for the key and accidently snagged a drenched flyer with a fisherman on the front along with it. The wind tossed the paper in the air, and he captured it before it disappeared into the downpour. He held it to the moonlight, scanning it before returning it to his soaked pants.

“Soon, I’ll be James, the fisherman. Just one night and that’s it.” He strolled to room number four and paused before entering. “Something doesn’t feel right.”

The wind swirled, pulling him back toward the rain. He forced his feet forward and focused on the lock. The sounds of the hotel building settling resembled the hair-raising screams from a serial killer’s basement. Something, he was sure of it, called his name.

“It’s not real.” He stabbed the key into the lock. A swift jerk and shake of the door caused the room number to fling free of the bent nails that held it up as the door swung open. Without looking back, he darted into the dark room and closing the door, leaned his back against the door as it closed out the howls of Hurricane Nightmare. Rain dripped off his wet body and streaked down the doorframe.

“Okay, I made it. It’ll take him a while to catch me now.” After standing up from the ground, he turned on the lights and marveled at the disaster of a room. The walls resembled the pocked surface of the dark side of the moon. The bathroom, covered in mildew and mold, had no door. Cracks similar to the ones in the Sahara desert appeared on the ceiling, and cancerous black spots filled the corner. The only positives were a bed, a desk and chair, and a TV.

“This is the worst of the worst. No wonder it was ten dollars.”

Not wasting a minute, he dropped his duffle bag on the floor and unzipped it. After pulling out a velvet pouch, he spread soot at the inside of the door. The smell of burnt leather drifted up to his nose, and a small haze rose from the material. He burned sage in the window seals and set fire to a hard material that he laid in the middle of the room. As the hard substance burned, a smell worse than the room lingered. But once it evaporated, the muggy smell of a dead man’s anus withered away.

Now to get out of these. He wiped away some of the water from his face as he reached down, unlaced his boots, removed his wet socks, peeled off his shirt and pants, and tossed them onto the ground. From his bag, he retrieved a dry pair of socks and pants and put them on.

After unsheathing his knife, he felt the groves and tic marks engraved along the handle and placed it on the table. There were thirty-four marks etched in the wooden handle.

When he’d finished, he rested his short-barreled shotgun against the table where he relaxed and pulled out his Florida State game-winning baseball from college. He tossed the ball into the air, launching it higher and higher. It hit the ceiling and pieces of plaster fell on his head.

“Fuck!”

Once he stood, he brushed the fragments from his matted hair and shoulders onto the stained carpet and stopped the baseball from rolling under the bed with his foot. The ball still had pieces of plaster on it, and he brushed them off then tossed it into his bag. His bag contained another treasure of his—rum. He removed a new bottle and uncapped it, sucking down the spicy juice through his dehydrated lips.

“Huh.” He wiped what spilled off his face and recapped the bottle.

Sitting at the table, he flattened the torn flyer and spread it across the broken and splintered top. While shutting his eyes, he pictured the sea, the way it smelled, and the way it felt against his skin. The whales collided with the boat, and he heaved and hoed with the dozen or so other men that worked along with him on the large vessel. The ropes burned his hands and blood mixed with the salty water. No one knew if they’d die by the whale’s hand or the storm. Nevertheless, that was all right by him. There was no one around hounding and harassing him, taking away his sleep and ability to think. No one threatening his life, family, or conscience. It was him and the sea. James and his thoughts.

“I can’t wait.” He smiled and interlaced his fingers behind his head.

A violent bang at the door erased the peaceful vision. James fell from his seat onto the floor, whacking his head along the way. When he rose, he dashed to the light switch and flicked it off.

The thing outside beat and hammered on the door. With his back pressed against the wall and breathing as little as possible, he shook each time the door thumped. Sweat raced down his chest and forehead. His nostrils flared as lilac seeped into the room, and he resisted the urge to gag.

“No,” he whispered.

The thing scratched and chattered on the other side of the door, and multiple voices talked simultaneously. It raged and laughed, and the windows vibrated; little cracks spread across the glass.

James squeezed his eyes shut and prayed to God, any God that happened to hear him. He prayed until his mouth was too dry to open. Then he prayed in his head.

The commotion ended, and the ominous presence left. He lifted his trembling hand to the newly cracked window, pushed the curtain away, and saw nothing. After turning on the lights, he sat at the edge of the bed with his head in his hands.

“Only one more day. I’ve had one hundred fucking miles, and now this.” He drove his fist into the wall beside the bed. The pain caused him to wave his hand.

“It’s one of the hallucinations. You haven’t slept in what, three days? It’s like the time in Macon.” He rubbed his head.

A letter swished into his room from under the door and floated beside him onto the tattered covers. James leapt from it. His eyes widened at the sight of the handwriting.

“It’s just paper,” he muttered. Mustering the courage, he seized the letter. It shook in his unsteady hands as he read the words.

I WANT MY SOUL, AND SINCE I’M SUCH A NICE GUY, I’LL GIVE YOU UNTIL DECEMBER 22 AT 1:30 AM. I KNOW WHERE YOU’RE AT. NO NEED TO RUN, IT’LL ONLY MAKE THINGS WORSE. OH, AND CLEAN UP.

FROM THE GENTLEMAN, WITH LOVE

James’ thoughts spun. He looked around the room for something, anything, to help him stand upright, but instead landed on the bed. The words raced through his mind, smashing the good memories aside.

“I can’t leave?” He tugged at his hair and wiped the sweat from his face. What he’d spent the last several months planning was all for nothing. A deep emptiness filled his soul. Not even the burning of the rum could fill it. He curled into a ball and wept himself to sleep.

Author Interview

Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I wasn’t sure what I wanted to write, but I was sure I wanted to write in the Sci-Fi/Fantasy genre.

When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

When I found that became excited when I read passages from a book and wanted to try those technics out in my own writing.

How long did it take to get your first book published?

When I first started writing the book late in 2012, I wrote sparely, but during the summary of 2013, I really focused on writing. Altogether, over a year.

Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?

Yes, I do freelance writing, graphic design and work full time as a Quality Assurance specialist.

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

My latest book is The Gentleman. Man meets demon. Demon likes games. Games cost man his soul. Now he wants it back. A bromance horror novel.

Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?

I self-published

How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

It all depends on the type of story. More complicated ones take longer, less complicated plots may not take as long to write, but getting the dialogue and narrative just right is the hardest part.

What can we expect from you in the future?  ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

More books in Horror and some books in Sci-fi and a YA series.

What genre would you place your books into?

Horror

What made you decide to write that genre of book?

I’ve always enjoyed reading Stephan King and Edgar Allen Poe and I love the idea of building suspense and scaring folks with my words.

Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?

James Greene. Because he starts only wanting to get out of the whole deal with The Gentleman, but as the story progresses, he learns there’s more to life than death.

How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?

I’ve been writing since I knew how to work a pen and my inspirations for writing vary from Stephan King to Kevin Anderson to C.S. Lewis to J.R.R. Tolkien.

Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?

I listen to music, put on the History Channel, or play some X-Files. I generally either write in a bookstore and I like to drink monster or hot tea.

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?

I try to; even the bad ones teach me something. I take in all the criticism and use it to improve my skill and learn the craft.

Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?

It depends; I like to choose a title first then write. But sometimes I change the title after the story’s complete.

How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?

I used what was familiar for the place (I’m from Florida and I’ve been to Georgia a lot). As for names, I either used names I liked or people I new and took the first name of a best friend and the last name of someone I knew.

Are character names and place names decided after their creation? Or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them?

I pick them as I write, but I’ll change the name if it seems I am using the same letter for each character.

Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?

Yes, I try to picture how the character would react in certain situations and determine if they have a strong personality or a passive one.

Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is..")

No.

Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?

Paperback but I don’t mind ebook format.

What is your favorite book and Why?  Have you read it more than once?

The Hobbit. And yes.

Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?

Sometimes, but they have to be books that have a lot of action and good dialogue. The best was Shaw Shank Redemption and the worst book to screen to me was the Time Machine.

Author Interview

Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

I wanted to be a poet before being a writer of books. And before wanting either of those, I wanted to be an artist. I just didn’t know what type of artist.

When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

When I won an award for my poetry, when my poetry was published for the first time and finally when I took a creative non-fiction writing course. That course opened my mind to what writing can be.

How long did it take to get your first book published?

With my first book it was a simple process. I wrote under a different pseudonym. I think for me and the publisher it was our “first times”.

Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?

Yes I was a professional student for many years and worked part-time in retail. Now I work full-time in an academic setting.

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

The name of my latest novel is called Freakquency. If you are a fan of urban legends and myth and are not afraid of a little of the grotesque then you will love this book. It has romance elements but borders on a lustful tale more than a romantic one. It introduces some interesting characters—characters who you will want to be explained in the next novel by Caddell Brown, Talisman, Spring 2015.

Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?

My publisher is NomaBlack Publishing and can be found online at NomaBlack.com

What can we expect from you in the future?  ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

Definitely more books in the same genre. My next work will be a follow-up to Freakquency.

What genre would you place your books into?

Contemporary suspense, thriller with a bit of adventure and conspiracy. I’m fascinated with clandestine organizations, espionage and those who live in the shadows. Also I like a bit of romance in these type settings.

What made you decide to write that genre of book?

I love reading about secret organizations, conspiracies and history. I also love a good romance and am fascinated with horror and the supernatural, all of which is found in Freakquency.

How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?

My creative non-fiction writing teacher, modern American literature, Shakespeare and Roger Ebert all inspired me to write. I’ve been writing since junior high school: first poetry and then prose.

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?

I seldom read reviews.

Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?

I choose a title first and follow-through with the writing.

How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?

I wanted basic names for the protagonist and subsequent characters but unique names for the supernatural characters and associations.

Are character names and place names decided after their creation? Or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them?

The creation of characters first occurs in my head, in my thoughts. I visualize first then I name them after.

Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?

Broad traits are decided, yes, but specific traits emerge as I write.

Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is...")

Absolutely none whatsoever.

Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?

I prefer paperback. They’re easier to hold while taking a hot bath.

What is your favorite book and Why?  Have you read it more than once?

Hyperion by Dan Simmons and I have read it at least ten times. I love it in that it is a science fiction novel with elements of the supernatural, mythology, folklore, time travel, etc. It is an epic saga, the first of four books otherwise known as The Hyperion Cantos.

Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?

Only some books transfer to screen well. The Deep End comes to mind. It was originally a novel written by Elisabeth Sanxay Holding, but translated to film by Scott McGhee and David Siegel. It was a beautiful, haunting, dramatic tale. It bettered the novel in that sense. Other films adapted from print have failed miserably in my opinion. The Queen of the Damned should have been a mini-series and not a feature-length film. There was too much story that was left out in the film.

Portrait of Passion

Idyllwild, Book One

What’s a Viscount to do when a mysterious lady with a secret past and a reputation frayed around the edges suddenly appears in London in hot pursuit of his naive young cousin, setting the gossips’ tongues wagging, stirring his family into pandemonium, and driving him mad with her irreverent ways?

If the Viscount in question is Simon Easton, the answer is quite simple. Seduce the beguiling lady. But Miss Beatrice Morgan isn’t your average tarnished lady. She lives a slapdash life wandering the globe like a gypsy, painting fantastical portraits of Duchesses as sirens and landscapes featuring a crumbling old fountain, all the while harboring a secret desire to return to Idyllwild, the only home she’s ever known.

What Simon does not know is that Beatrice just might be willing to sacrifice her honor, her virtue, her very heart to reclaim Idyllwild.

Book Description:

They’ll risk forever death for one last chance together…

Nuala of Glengowyn hasn’t left her home city in over a century, but not by choice. Her skill as a weapons master has made her a prisoner of her people. Held apart, protected in the extreme—until Sorcerers attack the human city of Sinnale.

Sent to supply her unique magical arrows to help the humans, she is far from free.

The elf king and queen have sent a bodyguard, a fearsome warrior whose reputation has no rival. The only man she has ever wanted. Einar of Glengowyn.

Einar is known as a battle-crazed destroyer, so feared among elves he’s called by a single name: Darkness. And he has only one weakness—Nuala. Their union is forbidden, for melding their magics could destroy Nuala’s gifts. Yet as they journey to the war-torn city, no royal decree is a match for two hundred years of pent-up desire.

But even if they escape the war zone, their lives still hang in the balance. They must confront their sovereigns and prove love makes them stronger—or face their deaths.

Product Warnings: This book contains a deadly elf hero, a heroine who’s his match, a lot of sexy misbehaving, some hard language, racing through the streets, owls, arrows, evil Sorcerers, wicked minions, and a very dangerous elf king and queen.

Excerpt

Nuala stared at Einar for a few more minutes, caught by his intensity. To escape, she glanced down at his injured arm. “I can wrap that for you.” She gestured to the wound.

He gave it a cursory glance. “It’s only a scratch.”

“But neither of us can afford to have you weakened.” She spun in a slow circle, then started opening doors. When she found a room that contained a couch, she led him inside. “Sit,” she ordered.

Without supplies, her only option for binding the wound was the hem of her riding robe. “Your knife.” She held out a hand without looking at him and pulled up the long length of material.

“It’s not necessary.”

“Don’t argue.” She wiggled her fingers, still focused on the material in her hand. His presence threw her off balance and looking directly at him made it worse. They hadn’t spent this much time together, alone and in close proximity, since…

She didn’t want to think about the last time.

After the knife hilt settled gently into her palm, she sliced a few lengths of silk along the split front hem of the robe. It would leave a wider V in the front, but since they had to travel quickly, she was considering cutting off the length completely anyway. Once the sun set, the early autumn nights were too cold to get rid of the over-robe altogether. It was designed to allow easy, free movement, with slits in front and back so she could sit astride her horse without the long material getting in the way. It had stayed out of her way during the earlier fight too. But those lengths of material could be put to better use. And the less she had to worry about right now, the better.

Once she had sufficient improvised bandages, she turned to Einar. “Take your tunic off,” she said, her voice as firm and emotionless as she could make it.

She tried not to be affected as he stood, removed his scabbard belt, then slipped his short vest off and dragged his tunic up over his head. Unfortunately, she couldn’t hold back her quickly drawn breath when the magnificent musculature of his chest was revealed in full.

This wasn’t the first time she’d seen him bare-chested, but the sight never ceased to stir her. When she looked up, she found him staring at her, his dark eyes black in the dim light leaking in through grimy windows. She swallowed and focused on his arm. Her heartbeat sped as she drew near enough to feel the heat of his skin and smell the tangy combination of his natural spicy musk mixed with the sweat of battle. With Einar, that combination had always overwhelmed her better judgment, targeting her most desperate desires. Only with him.

Yet another reason she’d spent so many years avoiding him.

Though her pulse pounded in her ears, she concentrated on making her hands steady, her touch gentle. She used one length of material to gently blot the worst of the blood away. Some still seeped slowly from the injury, but not enough to be dangerous. Once she’d gotten the area as clean as possible with a dry cloth, she used another length to tightly bind the wound.

His muscles flexed under her touch, which didn’t help. “Relax,” she ordered, her voice irritatingly husky.

He let out a long, slow exhale that brushed over the top of her head, and his biceps relaxed. She noticed at a glance, however, that his stomach muscles were tightly clenched. When she risked a peek at his face, his jaw was also tight, and he stared at the wall across from where they stood.

She turned back to her work, knowing she shouldn’t have risked this kind of proximity for this long. Einar had more power over her body and heart than any other elf. A fact they were both growing more aware of with each passing moment.

When she’d tied off the bandage, satisfied it would do for now, she stepped back and gestured at his leg without actually looking down. “Are you cut or was it just your trousers?”

“It’s nothing.”

“Nothing as in no blood, or nothing as in you don’t wish me to bandage the wound?”

His gaze jumped from the wall to her and she took another involuntary step back. Heat, promise, need and something she didn’t want to admit seeing blazed out at her, an arrow right into her heart.

“You made it clear,” he said quietly, “that your magic was not something you could sacrifice. We should not remain this close. And I should not take off any more clothing around you.”

Author Interview

Did you always want to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?

IK: I didn’t always think I’d be a writer, though I’ve been writing my whole life. I actually thought I’d be a scientist and write in my spare time. I also thought I’d do community theatre in my spare time and maybe be in a rock band, so obviously I imagined having a lot of spare time in my future despite being a career driven scientist *g*

When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?

IK: Despite writing all the time, I started to really consider myself a writer by my second year in college. I’d had a few people tell me I should take it seriously the previous year—a teacher, a dear friend—and I finally figured out it was something I could do if I applied myself. Then I met another writer who pointed me in the right direction for submitting stories (this was before the internet so I couldn’t just do a Google search *g*) and that was that. I was a writer.

How long did it take to get your first book published?

IK: I published my first novel in 1999 (the fourth novel I wrote), and I started submitting fiction to magazines (and getting lots of rejections) around 1991. So I guess it took me 8 years, although it felt like a lot longer. All those rejections must have distorted my sense of time.

Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?

IK: I used to do a lot of odd jobs. I’ve been a shark and snake caretaker at the Las Vegas Natural History Museum. I took care of plants. After getting my Ph.D., I worked as a teaching assistant at a surgical college, an unpaid researcher, an exam moderator, a front desk receptionist for a business bank—I had decided to do odd jobs that gave me time to write instead of focusing on science at that stage. When we moved to NY, I worked a lot as a legal assistant and secretary. Now I’m a stay-at-home mom and a full time writer. Kind of sounds like the resume of an actor. All I need is “waitress” or “barista” and I’d have all the bases covered.

What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?

IK: My newest release is THE DARKNESS OF GLENGOWYN (Fire and Tears Book #2). Being thrown into a warzone forces Einar and Nuala to face their desire though being together risks their sovereigns’ wrath.

Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?

IK: This series is published by Samhain Publishing (www.samhainpublishing.com)

How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?

IK: This depends entirely on the particular project. The ideas usually come well before I’m able to start writing—sometimes as much as two or three years--so I have lots of time to mull the story over. Every so often, though, I have an idea and start on it immediately. It just depends on the timing and my schedule. Once I start writing, I can get a first draft done really quickly—within 2-3 weeks for novellas and short novels. Four to eight weeks for a full length novel. But then I have to do quite a bit of editing—the hazards of being a pantser who adheres to the philosophy of the “shitty first draft”.

What can we expect from you in the future?  ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?

IK: I have at least one more fantasy romance in the Fire and Tears series (releasing July 29th this year), and my editor has said she’ll look at more books in this world so I’m hoping to write a few more. I also have a science fiction romance series with a new book due out next year. I tend to jump around between science fiction, fantasy and paranormal romances. But for the next few years I’ll be focused on fantasy and science fiction romance—and likely focused on the two current series.

What genre would you place your books into?

IK: The Fire and Tears series is epic fantasy romance but will appeal to paranormal romance readers.

Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?

IK: I have absolutely no specific routine anymore. I used to put on music. I’d have to play a few computer games before settling in to write. But now with the hectic chaos of my daily life, I write whenever and wherever I can. As soon as the baby falls asleep, I open up my latest WIP (or other writing related work I need to do) and start in on it. I never know how much time I’ll get to work as both my boys are really rotten sleepers, so I don’t have the luxury of a set process. I may or may not have the TV on as background noise—sometimes I mute it though. Occasionally, when I’m really tired, I do have to make myself a deal to get started. I promise myself I’ll only write for 15 minutes (or I’ll just write a paragraph, or a sentence if I’m feeling really reluctant) and then I can go to sleep. Usually this is all it takes to get me going. After the time period or paragraph is written I just keep going. Bribery is a great tool.

Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?

IK: Sadly, yes I do. I try to take them with a grain of salt because everyone has their own opinion and my stories will be loved by some and not so much by others. I know that, and I’ve been publishing long enough that this doesn’t bother me too much. But I do have to admit, I feel a lot better when the very first review I see for a new release is a positive one. *g* Eventually I might give this practice up, but for now, I can’t resist reading the reviews.

Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?

IK: I’m a disaster with titles! For the most part, I write the book first then have to wrack my brains to come up with a title. I’m never that bothered by a publisher’s request to change a title. In fact, I almost expect it and am always a little surprised when I get to keep the one I came up with. I actually did have a title for a book before writing the book once though—in my science fiction romance series. It’s the book I’m editing right now, but I’ve had the title for years and years.

Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?

IK: I’m equally happy with eBook and paperback. Though these days I’m more likely to read the eBooks as I can read on a backlit screen in the dark when my baby is sleeping.

Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?

IK: Actually I think some books translate well to movies, but not everything that’s turned into a movie should have been. I’ve found the movies I like best are the ones that came from shorter, novella length stuff rather than full length novels. Off the top of my head, The Shawshank Redemption was a superb movie made from one of Stephen King’s shorter stories. That’s probably my favorite.

Your favorite food is?

IK: Pizza and nachos. The order of preference depends entirely on the day. Oh and chocolate chip cookie dough. That’s real food, right?

AUTHOR NAME: Kerry J Donovan

THE TRANSITION OF JOHNNY SWIFT is the story of one young man's fight to save his family from a threat nobody else can see or understand.

Frank Brazier—the book's lead character and narrator—is a successful racing driver a single step away from the big time. After a night celebrating a win, he takes the train to London with his sister, Paula. The train derails and sends Frank into a hellish world of pain and confusion.

Three days later, Frank wakes in hospital with horrific injuries. Blind in one eye, suffering intense migraines, he can barely move. Worse still, he hears impossible voices that cannot exist.

In the next room, Paula is on life support. The doctors say she’s dead. They want to pull the plug on her machines, but Frank knows better—one of the voices he hears is Paula.

The book follows Frank's slow recovery from his physical injuries and his battle to save both Paula and the rest of his family. The doctors dismiss his clams as the wild ramblings of a man with brain damage. Neither his father nor girlfriend believes him either.

Only his imagined, elusive friend, Shadow-man believes. But is Shadow-man real? And if so, is he there to help or harm?
