That generally frees up my creativity enough to push me past the block. If those things don't work, and sometimes they won't, I get away from the project completely and hang with friends, go on a run or I'll work on something else. Sometimes I'll even read something from a genre completely different from what I enjoy or what my book/screenplay is about.

If all those things fail, venturing to blogs in the same genre, getting in on discussions, and reading subjects on the areas where you have problems with pushing the story forward can help break the monotony also.

I've even begun watching shows and breaking down the "Call to Action," points or story shifts in each act. Once I've mapped out the story structure, plot, and character struggles, I try to figure out how these things will play out and how the show will end.

This has really helped me examine my own stories, question my characters decisions and the plot, and aided me when I need to figure out how to push the story along naturally. (less)

My Top Ten Book List

A great book can be many things. It can be inspiring, funny, fulfilling, and filled with vivid imagery. But for me one thing that makes a story so great, and so powerful it has the ability to make me want to read it over watching my favorite TV show, is its ability to create a world that I feel a part of. As Mya Angelou once said, “Once you read a book, your world is changed forever.”
