For Elle Davis, love seems like something that happens to other women. So when her heart flutters upon meeting Trevor Cavanaugh, she is surprised by the momentary glimmer of hope she feels—and appalled moments later by her inexplicably rude response to him.
Before Elle, Trevor has never had trouble with women. But she is a mystery, and now he can’t stop thinking about her. He’s mostly convinced himself it’s just because he needs her expertise to find out who’s sabotaging his business, but there’s more to it than that…
Does love really conquer all in the end?

Elle blushed and said, “Oh, I’m sorry I wasn’t paying attention. Are you okay?”
Trevor looked down at her and said, “It’s okay and I’m fine. Are you okay?”
“I’m fine.” She looked at her arm and noticed his hand there keeping her upright. He noticed at the same moment.
He removed his hand from her arm and stuck it out and said, “I’m Trevor Cavanaugh by the way.”
“I’m Elle Davis, nice to meet you.” Elle said as she shook hands with him.
“Nice to meet you too.” He paused for a second as if he was thinking, “Do I know you from somewhere? You look familiar,” Trevor said looking like he was trying to remember how he knew her.
“I don’t think we’ve met before but you do look familiar to me too.” Elle said, racking her brain to figure out how she knew him, but knowing there was no way to forget
a man like Trevor Cavanaugh.
“What are you doing?” Trevor asked dumbfounded as he stared at a half-naked Elle standing before him.
“Surprising you, I thought you could use a break from all your hard work.”
Trevor closed the thick wooden slated blinds and rounded his desk. When he met Elle he wrapped his arms around her waist to pull her in close. He slammed his mouth down on hers; in a mating of desire and need. He wanted to do this slowly but Elle was leading the
kiss and taking it to the level of fast and furious. He loved this woman; she knew how to pull one hell of a surprise!
Elle pulled back from the kiss with heavy eyes and dilated pupils, “I think you’re wearing too many clothes.”
She unwrapped herself from his arms and went over to his desk and sat on the edge.
Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
No, I thought about it when I was younger but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to be.
When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?
I guess I first considered myself a writer when the book came out on Amazon, even though sometimes it doesn’t feel real and I don’t always think of myself as a writer just someone who likes to write stories.
How long did it take to get your first book published?
From when I started writing the book to it going live on Amazon was a year.
Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?
I do have another job, even though I think it would be incredible to do this full-time. My other job is in the accounting department.
What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?
“My Missing Puzzle Piece”
I had a hard time summarizing the story in less than 20 words, this was the best I came up with: Trevor Cavanaugh needs helps to find who sabotaging his business, he turns to Elle Davis the only woman to fill him with need and confusion.
Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?
I self-publish and use CreateSpace
How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?
It varies. This book took 5 months but I wasn’t constantly writing or would go back and change things. However the second book took me three weeks, minus a few details and editing it needs; I did have more notes outlined for that one though.
What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?
In the future I am focusing only on contemporary romance but would love to try another category in the genre, erotica or romantic suspense. There will be a series ‘A Creekside Falls Novel’ to go along with this first book. Right now I am working on three and four for the series, still deciding how many to do. Also, working on ideas for another series and stand- alone books.
What genre would you place your books into?
The genre I’d place my books in would be contemporary romance.
What made you decide to write that genre of book?
I guess I decided on that genre by falling into it based on the development of the stories. I like that this category of the genre encompasses a lot and I read a lot of contemporaries too.
Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?
I don’t think I have a favorite character but I have a special liking and place for each character.
How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?
I’ve been writing for years but mostly simple, short things. This was the first book I wrote. I don’t think I’ve pinpointed my inspiration.
Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?
I don’t have a certain routine but when I sit down to write I know I need at least a few hours and for it to be quiet, which can be hard to come by.
Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
So far I’ve been reading all of the reviews and as of now I plan to. I like to hear feedback and see if I can change something to make the next story better for the reader.
Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?
I write the book and choose a title during or after the writing process.
How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?
The character names and places actually kind of just come to me and I go from the thought to mesh them with the story idea or build the story around the characters and places.
Are character names and place names decided after their creation? Or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them?
I pick the character and place names after they are created or sometimes during the process of creating them.
Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?
Usually it is a little of both, I try to pick a few traits first and as I am writing I add more to give them description and depth.
Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is..")
No, no hidden messages or morals.
Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?
A few months back I’d say I prefer paperback or hardback but now I’m loving ebooks and reading them on my tablet constantly.
What is your favorite book and Why? Have you read it more than once?
I don’t think I have a favorite book but I love so many!
Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?
I don’t think they do transfer well, it always feels like something is missing that should be there or it ends up too different. I don’t have a favorite or worst book to movie transfer but I haven’t loved any I’ve seen. Now I try not to see movies of books I’ve read ot won’t read a book after I’ve seen a movie based on it.
Your favorite food is?
I have a lot of favorite foods, but right now I’d say anything Italian- like Manicotti.
Your favorite singer/group is?
No favorite singer or group but I am loving country music right now and have been for a while.
Your favorite color is?
Favorite color would be green or purple.
Your favorite Author is?
No favorite authors but I love so many. A few traditionally published authors I love are Jill Shalvis, Carly Phillips, Shannon Stacey and Laura Kaye. I love so many indie authors too!

"A startling unique spin on Peter Pan with mystery and romance, and staying true to yourself." - # 1 NY Times Bestselling author Jennifer L. Armentrout
Sixteen-year-old Wendy Wyman is bereft over the death of her best friend, Peter Preiss, whose body has been found at the bottom of the town lake. She blames herself because she allowed him to go back to his family’s lakeside boathouse late at night where they had just made love for the first time. She wonders what she could have done differently to stop Pete from being killed, and thinks back to the beginning of the school year when her whole life changed forever.
Wendy will stop at nothing until she finds out the person responsible for killing Peter, who was bullied by most of the students in their junior class. She is in for even more of a shock when she finds out that not only did Pete keep dark secrets from her, but a few of her close friends are hiding ones as well. This also includes Dylan Mayone, the new popular boy at school, who wants her for his own, and may have had a hand in Pete’s death.
Excerpt:
“Move your ass, Wonder Woman,” Pete shouted, flying by me on his cherry-red bicycle.
“You’re a dead man, Preiss,” I yelled, wiping the sweat off my forehead as I huffed up one of the biggest hills in Brookview Park. Just another hot and sticky Monday—Labor Day to be exact—as we enjoyed the last few days of freedom before we began our junior year of high school. We’d biked at Brookview forever and did every free chance available. Soon, we’d only be able to bike together on the weekends because of school and Pete’s part-time job.
He shot down the hill with his arms spread open like he was on a roller coaster. It frightened me. I didn’t want him breaking his leg like he did when he was twelve.
“Be careful, Mr. Daredevil.” I took my time coming down. There was no way my leg would be bound in a cast during my first semester of junior year, with me limping down the hallways open for anyone to tease or try trip me.
He spun his bike and kicked his legs in the air. He could be such a show-off sometimes. He bowed, walking my bike over instead of riding it, and I rolled my eyes. He would be crushed if he knew my true feelings.
Biking wasn’t really my thing. My idea of fun was reading magazines and watching television.
Such a teeny, itsy, bitsy lie.
I hit him hard on the shoulder. “You’re going to get yourself killed.”
“Hey, that hurt.” He winced, rubbing his arm.
“Suck it up, Pee Pee.”
“You know how much I hate that nickname.”
I moved my sweat-drenched hair away from my forehead. I could feel a zit forming, rising under the skin. Great. Knowing my luck, I’d have a huge tumor right smack in the middle of my forehead for the first day of school.
“You call me Wonder Woman. I call you Pee Pee. Deal with it,” I teased.
He took off his sunglasses and wiped them off with the bottom of his damp white T-shirt. He sweated more than any person I knew.
“Wendy, I can’t help it that your first and last name begins with the letter W. Think of Wonder Woman as a compliment. My nickname, on the other hand, is humiliating.”
He frowned, turning away from me. It was bad enough the jerks at our school made fun of him. Among the more derogatory names used were “Pity Pete” or “Patchy” because of the bad case of acne he suffered from. Most times he looked like he had a constant case of sunburn. His face was a curse. I could hear the sing-song phrase in my head, “It’s such a pity Petey Pee-Pee is a monkey”.
At least they’d stopped calling him Jew Boy.
“Sorry,” I grumbled. He’d been calling me Wonder Woman for as long as I could remember.
“It sure is hot out here.” He lifted his shirt, wiping his face with it. I was about to tell him how gross that was, but then I noticed his stomach. Wow. His abs weren't all that bad.
“You’ve been working out?” I patted his stomach, hiding a grimace as his sweat moistened my palm. Before I could wipe it away, he grabbed my arm and twisted me around until he held me in a head lock. We grappled like that until I almost slipped out of his grip, but he was just too strong.
“Do you surrender?”
“Never!” I decided to do something very low. I tickled him.
He released me, and I raised my arms in victory. Leaning against his bike, he rolled his eyes.
“Seriously, you have some major guns there.” I stretched my arms above my head.
“And your boobs are so big, now they can crush soda cans. What are you now, a triple D cup?”
Only he could get away with saying something like that.
“Yeah, thanks for noticing. No push up bra needed here.” I pushed my chest out for emphasis.
Suddenly, a silver convertible drove by with two guys.
“Hey, Patchy, where’s your bananas?” the driver shouted and roared down the street with his radio blasting some air-splitting rock song.
I clenched my fists, wishing they would crash into a tree. “Pete—”
He fiddled with the handle bars of his bike. “I’m pretty wiped out. I should head home and shower before dinner.”
I glimpsed my watch, surprised by the time. “Okay.”
He strode away with his bike. I came up beside him, bumping my shoulder into his. He did the same to me.
“Ignore that jerk. He’s jealous you’re with a big boobed girl and he isn’t.”
He gave me a small smile but didn’t say anything. We walked in silence until we reached my house.
“Eleven’s okay?” he asked.
“Same time as always.”
He leaned over to give me hug but ruffled my hair instead.
“Preiss,” I yelled.
He jumped on his bike and drove straight inside his garage, chuckling all the way. I felt too winded to chase after him.
I’d get him back. I always made sure I got the last laugh.

What Happens In Venice -- A Trinity
Book One, Love Spirits
Book Two, Lagoon Lure
Book Three, Magic Island
Venice kidnapped her. It stole her breath, it made her weep, and she forgave it. This trip was no different. Palazzos flanked the Grand Canal as if playing the role of soldiers obedient to the eyes of tourists who passed in public boats, water taxis and gondolas. These old palaces sparkled on water like porcelain figurines on a glass shelf. A soft breeze rolled across Louisa’s cheeks and it rippled the reflections and transformed the scene. Mesmerized by the magic, Louisa missed her boat stop. No problem, she thought, I’ll find another place for coffee. She refused to drink it alone in her apartment and religiously sipped her brew at one of the little cafes where handsome Venetian men worked. There were many such establishments on her way to police headquarters. When she arrived a few weeks earlier, American lawyer Louisa Mangotti hoped to spearhead the creation of an essential link between Venice police and the rest of the world. But was she leading the department into the future of global law enforcement as she’d envisioned? No, she sat shackled to a desk where she sorted and translated police data because Interpol sent red alerts and formal requests for information in English or French, not in Italian. Therefore, many unsolved crimes remained ignored in the file drawers of the lagoon city, a thriving metropolis and huge tourist destination. And Louisa? Louisa remained bored in a cubicle learning about law and disorder. According to recent updates to her sister, Louisa was focused on everything but international law enforcement anyway:
Ciao Barbara, Remember that lagoon island said to be full of ghosts where patients with the plague were once sent to die? Well many other haunted places exist in Venice too. I don’t believe in ghosts, not like you do, but I am checking out some haunts. I am checking out Venetian men too.
Because Barbara objected, Louisa promised not to explore the haunted island. But didn’t Barbara object to Louisa going to Venice at all this time? Wasn’t it just like Barbara to try to direct everything, even from afar? How much of the seemingly haunted happenings in Venice could Louisa ignore? Blame the postcard, thought Louisa. And as she thought it, a loud bell rang out. Louisa took note. In Italy, it is customary to pause and recall whatever you were thinking when a bell chimes, especially this bell, the one that echoed from the famous bell tower, high above St. Mark’s Square. The massive San Marco bell continued to sound in the serene setting, bang, gong, gong, bang, and it reverberated across the piazza, across the lagoon, to the nearby islands of Murano and Lido. It sounded authoritative and mighty. Every day. For centuries.

Exclusive MaE Interview with N. Isabelle Blanco!
Pssst: She finally talks about the Obsessions Series! Does this mean we're getting Ang and Luke soon? We're praying!
1. What can we expect with the continuation of Liv and Calum’s story?
Nyddi: Oh man. It’s totally different from book one yet it’s makes perfect sense that their story is now heading in the direction it’s heading. Calum began discovering a whole new side to himself in book one, but it was still so simple and so “Sweet” almost. In this book, things get crazier, darker, more dramatic. Liv is dealing with her relationship phobias/issues as well as her feelings for Calum. Calum is dealing with an utter lack of control because of her that he’s never dealt with before, and they’re both absolutely clueless as to how to deal with what’s happening.
2. Why the new direction?
Nyddi: I think it was always meant to be. When I wrote the first book, Calum’s personality developed on its own and he was so much more in control at first than any male I had ever written. He wasn’t an innocent, but he definitely wasn’t as wild as the men I usually write. At least, not that he was aware of. But I remember writing the scene when he first saw Livana, and his visceral reaction to her, and I felt that dominating “I’m going to pull your hair and own you” part of him awakening and I sensed his panic at that. He truly does not know how to accept this new side of him at first, especially when faced with such an independent woman such as Liv, who seems to sometimes not care whether she has him or not. As for Livana, I truly think some people might not like her at first. This book is in her POV, and we get a front row seat to her mindset. She was hurt and betrayed in the worse way and she was really, really young when it happened. When you get hurt that bad at such a young age, you erect these faulty defense mechanisms in order to protect yourself from it happening ever again. Liv now has to deal with Calum tearing down each of those defenses one by one, although she’s nowhere near ready to trust anyone again.
3. How does this book tie in to what will be book 3 of your Allure series?
Nyddi: Well, the two series are tied together anyway, and they all are leading to my Obsessions Series (Angelina and Lucas). This book ties in because many of the events are happening during book two of Allure (Allure Magnified) and there are events at the end of this book that will be occurring during the beginning of Wrecked Allure, which will be the third and last installment of the Allure series. And I will say no more on the matter! LOL I don’t want to give away too many spoilers :p
4. Tell us about the sex scenes. Calum is slowly losing more and more control when it comes to Liv, and we’re dying to know how this translates in the bedroom ^_
~ Nyddi: Who said anything about a bedroom? *Runs to check* Yup. I don’t think there’s a single love scene in this book that takes place anywhere near a bed…although, if you count his couch, then yeah, it was “near”. Then again, his house is really big LOL Calum is exploring all these crazy new urges he has because of Livana, so trust me when I say that the new, upgraded Calum 2.0 is going to definitely rock her world. I’m barely surviving writing him!
5. What else are you working on now and what can we expect from you in the future?
Nyddi: The project I’m most immersed in, aside from CF, is Need. I’m writing that book with K.I. Lynn and OMG. I’ve already predicted that it will break me once we’re done writing it. It’s turned into one of the most emotional, fun, frustrating rollercoaster rides of my career. We’re almost at the halfway point and I have to say that I have never been prouder of something I’ve worked on before. Bringing an alpha male to life alongside K.I. Lynn is exhilarating, hormonally painful, and spiritual all at once LOL! (I really, really mean this.) I am so excited for us to get this one done so we can show it off to the world. After Need is finished I have the following books in the cue to be written and published in 2014/2015:
Wrecked Allure (Allure #3) Blood Drenched Conquest (Szolites #3) Systematic Seige: Provocative Tendencies (SSPT Episode #1) Broken Headboard, Power Panties, & Penis Charms (Broken Headboards #1) Damage Owed (Retaliations #2) Systematic Seige: Provocative Tendencies (SSPT Episode #2) The Exchange Part 2 (Project Sapphire #2) And these are only the ones I'm allowed to announce so far!
So yes. The next year or so will be the busiest year of my life. But I wouldn’t change it for the world. Thank you so much to all my fans that keep pushing me and keep me going. I could never live without your support and I go to sleep and wake up in the morning with the drive to write faster because of you <3

Character Name: Madison “Maddie” Monroe
Character Bio: Maddie Monroe is a happy, hardworking thirty-something who has found family and acceptance working with her brother, Devon Monroe, at his private security firm, Secure Technologies Incorporated. She is the primary Operations Controller for all missions, which means she provides the necessary background info needed to prep, and she is the primary point of contact at STI for their men in the field when the operations go live.
At 5’9”, she’s tall, thin, fine-featured, and fit with long brown wavy hair that she usually wears up in a high-arching ponytail, and her eyes are a bright, striking shade of blue-gray. Maddie is by nature a highly energetic, cheerful optimist with dimples and an exuberant smile that have been known to bring strong men to their knees. Which is helpful, given that she works with forty ex-Special Forces types, and someone needs to wrangle them into submission. Toting a blender and having a flair for clean living, the guys love her for her good humor, sassy attitude, and delicious smoothies. No one interrupts her yoga time. But when it’s time to get down to business, they respect her for her mad skills with computers. She is a hacker-extraordinaire.
***It should be noted that this interview took place prior to the events documented in Love AND Revenge.***
Describe yourself what is your worst and vest quality?
Where I work—STI—the guys are all generally pretty serious. It’s the work they’ve done and the work they do. So I like it that I can make them smile, and I can help lighten their day. And when they’re in the field, they know they can trust me to have their backs from the informational standpoint.
I don’t know that I’d call it my “worst quality,” I try to be very introspective, and when I find things I’m not liking about myself, I try to tackle them. But a “weakness,” if I can it that instead, that I haven’t been able to overcome is that I worry. I almost lost my brother, Devon. He nearly died on an op, and ever since then, when he’s in the field I worry. I hate how the anxiety makes me feel.
What is the one thing you wish other people knew about you?
I’m pretty much an open book to the people I care about. Which is my family at STI. We have to know each other’s strengths and weaknesses, so we can depend on each other. Given our 24/7 schedule, most of us live and work under the same roof. I think they know me pretty well, inside and out. Although, if the guys are reading this … Hey, with all your big muscles, I wouldn’t think a little itty bitty dishwasher door would be such an obstacle. Hint, hint. *chuckles*
What is your biggest secret something no one knows about?
Well, if I told you, it wouldn’t be a secret anymore. *grins widely*
What are you most afraid of?
One of the guys getting killed in action. My dad was FBI, and he was killed in the field. I never got to say goodbye. And I told you about Devon already. And recently a group of our guys got caught in a Hellfire firefight. They made it out, but it shook me up pretty bad.
What do you want more than anything?
Health and happiness. Love and respect.
What is your relationship status?
It’s complicated.
You know how I was telling you about the Hellfire firefight? Well, my boyfriend—or rather, now ex-boyfriend, Seamus—well, he was in the group. I haven’t been able get over how scared I got, and now—well, I called it off. It’s breaking my heart, and his. I love him, and I want back in my life. But I just can’t take the fear I feel every time he goes into the field. So I’m making myself move on. I’m seeing a new guy, Max Stone. He’s not in security. *shrugs* He’s nice. And funny. He treats me really well. I like him. I’m hoping I can love him instead.
How would you describe your sense of fashion?
Fashion? *chuckles* Where I work? My “uniform” of the day is skinny jeans, a tank or tee, and runners. I wear a hoodie or sweater if it’s chilly. Mind you. I do like my clothes to fit and complement my shape. I don’t walk around looking like a guy or anything. My clothes are feminine. And when I’m off the clock and looking for comfort, it’s yoga pants.
How much of a rebel are you?
That’s a loaded question. *laughs* I’ll tell you this. I don’t have anything to rebel against, except maybe the occasional firewall or two. I’m certainly not out to draw attention to myself or my actions.
What do you considered to be your greatest achievement?
Educationally, I earned two Bachelor’s and two Master’s degrees in six years. My undergrad was in Informatics and Org. Studies. I have an MBA, and my second Master’s is in Computer Science. However, that was all way easier than getting field certified to work at STI. I had to become a marksman level shooter with my sidearm, learn emergency field medicine, and conquer the grueling “confidence” course. Yeah, that sucked. *laughs*
What is your idea of happiness?
Something I can’t have. Seamus without the danger.
What is your current state of mind?
Happy with my health and life. Love my work. Love being at STI with my brother and the guys. Trying to find love with a new guy.
What is your most treasured possession?
Wow, that’s a personal question. ...Um. …Well, it’s this little, white flower I dried and kept from one of my dates with Seamus. *blinks back a tear* He took me on a nighttime hike under the full moon. The sky was so black, and a zillion bright stars, despite the moon, twinkled like magic. We came across these little white flowers that only bloom in the moonlight. He picked one for me. It was the first time he told me he loved me.
What is your most marked characteristic?
Probably that I am usually a happy person.
What is it that you, most dislike?
Personally speaking. Insincere, disingenuous people. Cruelty.
Which living person do you, most despise?
Living? No one.
What is your greatest regret?
I try not to have regrets. You know, live a better life from lessons learned. But I do wish I could have been there when my dad died. I could have held his hand. Talked to him. Something. So he wouldn’t have had to die alone.
What is the quality you most like in a man?
As in what I find sexy? Confidence. As in what I want from a coworker? Reliability. But from a partner in love and life, I want someone who will love me for who I am.
What is the quality you most like in a woman?
Genuine friendship.
Who is your favorite hero in fiction?
Gabriel Vaughn. He was the hero of a TV show called Intelligence. It got cancelled. But the hero was played by Josh Holloway. And Josh looks a lot like Seamus. So that was kind of fun.
Which living person do you most admire?
Actually, that would probably be Giffin, Devon’s wife. She helps people that most other people have forgotten about. She helps them get back on their feet and find their lives again. That’s pretty admirable.
If you could change one thing about yourself what would it be?
The fear. The worry.
What is your motto?
Live to play another day.

Recent college graduate, Harper Leigh, can barely make ends meet working as the books editor for a new online entertainment magazine, Chatter. With $85,000 of student loan debt about to go into repayment, she has no idea how she’ll get by.
Just when she thinks things couldn’t get worse, Harper’s boss decides to embed her in the North American tour for the hot rock band, Always Rayne. Ten days on the road with the band for her to get an exclusive story. But Harper’s a homebody and the last thing she wants to do is go on the road with a rock band. And she definitely doesn’t want to spend ten days with the notorious bad boy and band front man, Nic Rayne.
When Nic proves to be too much for Harper to handle and she threatens to quit the assignment, Nic decides to sweeten the pot. If she stays with the tour for all ten days, he’ll pay off all of her student loan debt….but there’s one small catch.
Harper also has to sleep in his bed every night.
THE ALWAYS SOMETIMES NEVER series continues with: SOMETIMES BROOKE (Brooke & Leo’s Story) NEVER RAVEN (Raven & Xander’s Story) Due to mature LANGUAGE and CONTENT, ALWAYS RAYNE is recommended for readers aged 18+. WARNING: The characters say the “f” word…a lot. If you don’t like the “f” word, please don’t 1-click the book.

As I glance around at all the other people with backstage passes I notice they all look a lot more like Brooke than I expected. All of the girls are wearing ultra-short, skin-tight skirts with barely there tops.
The guys all look like they just stepped out of the band themselves. They’re all young and hot and they seem to know it.
There’s definitely no shortage of arrogance in the room.
“I’m definitely going after Leo,” Brooke whispers to me as we approach the band.
All three of the band members are standing next to each other drinking beers and talking with a bevy of blondes.
Maybe this isn’t the best place for Brooke to be hanging out. She hasn’t been sober very long and I don’t want her to fall into temptation. I have a feeling if Leo handed her a beer she wouldn’t say no.
“I’m getting tired,” I say and fake a big yawn.
“You are not going to wimp out on me.” Brooke gives me a cold glare. “We’re not leaving here until we meet Always Rayne. All of them.”
Nic Rayne looks like he’s getting bored with the blondes. He’s glancing around the room rather than paying attention to what the girls are saying.
As soon as Nic’s eyes land on me I can see his expression change. His brows are furrowed and he looks puzzled. I’m sure he’s wondering what someone who looks like me is doing backstage.
Disappointment crosses over the faces of the two girls vying for Nic’s attention when he walks away from them and heads in my direction.
“You,” he points to me. At least I think he’s pointing at me. When I look around and realize I’m standing alone, I know he’s pointing at me.
Then I panic because I’m standing alone. Where the hell is my roommate? The one who dragged me here in the first place practically kicking and screaming. She completely abandoned me. I also notice that one of Nic Rayne’s bandmates seems to have vanished just as quickly.
It isn’t possible for Brooke to hook up with someone that fast, is it?
This is Brooke we’re talking about. Not only is it possible, it’s highly probable.
Nic Rayne is now glaring at me. It’s like he can’t believe I didn’t jump as soon as he pointed to me. I can already tell this guy is a piece of work. He’s probably used to getting any girl he wants with the snap of his finger. Hell, he’s probably used to getting anything he wants the second the demand comes out of this mouth.
I can see him let out an exasperated breath and then head in my direction. I quickly scan the room to see if I can spot an exit but by the time my eyes land on one, it’s too late. Nic Rayne has already entered my personal space.
And he’s not just close to me; he’s practically on top of me. And I don’t like it. He makes me extremely uncomfortable. I’d rather be anywhere than standing next to Nic Rayne. I’d rather be back in Economics class at the university and I hate Economics. It’s the only class I ever got a C in.
“What’s up?” Nic says.
I’ve seen him in movies so I knew he was tall and muscular. I guess it never occurred to me how tall and muscular he really is. The guy is towering over me and I’m not that short. I’m five feet six inches. Nic has got to be at least six inches taller than me.
“Did you see where my friend went?”
He nods but doesn’t say anything else.
“Okay. Would you mind telling me where she went?”
“With Leo.”
I assume he means Leo Donovan, his cousin and the guitar player in Always Rayne.
“Hey, Rayne.” Xander Donovan, Nic’s other cousin, and the band’s drummer, places a hand on Nic’s shoulder. “Pick the girl you want and let’s go. We’re all headed over to Troy.”
Troy is the trendiest club in the city. I’ve heard a lot about it but haven’t been able to afford the stiff cover charge and the fifteen dollar drinks.
“Come on,” Nic says and turns to leave as if I’m supposed to follow him.
He takes a few steps before he realizes that I’m not following him. Then he turns back around and gives me an odd look. “Aren’t you coming?”
I shake my head.
“Why not?” He actually looks puzzled.
“Do you want a list?”
His eyes narrow and then he walks back over to me. He gets so close I can smell his masculine scent and what’s left of his spicy cologne. “What’s the list?”
I gulp. I wasn’t actually expecting him to ask for the list. I thought he’d just get disgusted and find some other girl to go with him.
“Well, you’re not my type. I don’t find you remotely attractive. Or particularly interesting. I don’t like your music at all. And you don’t seem very smart. And I don’t sleep with guys I don’t know. So, maybe you should just find some other girl to take to Troy.”
He’s doing his best to bite back a grin. The smug asshole actually finds what I’ve said funny. I didn’t think I could dislike him more but he’s really pushing my buttons.
“I’m not your type, huh?” He leans in even closer. So close, I can feel his breath on my neck. “I’m everybody’s type.”
I try to swallow but I feel like there’s a golf ball stuck in my throat.
“You don’t find me attractive, huh? Then why are you sweating?” He places his hand right over my heart. “And your heart is beating a mile a minute. Maybe you should listen to what your body wants instead of what your brain is telling you.”
I take a step back and try to collect myself. I wipe my brow and realize I really am sweating. And he’s right, my heart is racing. What the hell is going on?
“I’m not some groupie who’s going to do whatever you want because you snapped your fingers.”
He looks me up and down. “I can see that.”
I place my hands on my hips. “What is that supposed to mean?”
He actually has the audacity to laugh. “No one would ever mistake you for a groupie that’s for sure.”
“Why do you say that?”
“Your clothes are like some crazy mash-up between a hippie and a school librarian.”
I glance down at my flowered skirt and strappy sandals. He has a point. I’m not exactly a fashion whore like my roommate. Not that I have the money to update my wardrobe even if I wanted to.
He steps closer again. He’s got a habit of getting right into my personal space and it makes me uncomfortable every time he does it. When I look into his deep brown eyes, I have the feeling that he’s doing it just to get a rise out of me.
“What are you doing here?” he asks. For the first time since we’ve met, he actually sounds sincere.
“I came with my roommate. She won tickets from the radio station. She wanted to see you. And your cousins.”
“I asked what you’re doing here.”
“I guess I’m here for moral support,” I stammer. And I have a press pass.”
I’m not sure why I tell him that. I guess I feel like I need some kind of excuse to be here because I’m definitely not here for the music.
“Why am I not surprised? You look like a writer. Or a librarian.”
I dig around in my purse and pull out my press pass. To my surprise, he grabs it from my hand. “Chatter. Never heard of it.”
“It’s an online magazine. A start up.”
He nods then hands me back my credentials.
“Do you like it?”
“Like what?” I’m surprised by the question.
“Writing. Working for a magazine.”
I shrug. “I’ve never thought about doing anything else. My parents named me Harper Leigh. I was kind of destined to be a writer.”
He’s looking at me with a blank stare. Maybe he really is as brainless as I think. And for some strange reason that disappoints me.
“Harper Leigh,” I repeat. “I spell my name differently but she was a writer.”
He’s still looking at me with a blank expression.
“She won the Pulitzer Prize.”
Then he smiles. “I know who Harper Lee is. To Kill a Mocking Bird. Won the Pulitzer Prize in 1961. She was also good friends with Truman Capote. She helped him with the research for In Cold Blood.”
I can feel my jaw drop.
“I guess I’m smarter than you think.” He leans in close again. “And I’m also a great actor apparently because I had you fooled.”
I want to say something in response but no words come out of my mouth.
“Rayne.” It’s Xander again. “Come on. We’ve got to bounce.”
“Does everyone call you Rayne?”
“Always.”

Sarah stood outside the house and watched while Brock unraveled the magic woven around it. The demon fidgeted and paced, and on more than one occasion, she worried he would run from her. She hoped, once inside, he would be able to find peace. Something in her gut told her his jitters were not all due to the opening of old wounds. She realized she actually made him nervous. When she’d caught him admiring her assets, she’d been anything but angry. His roving eyes had sent moisture between her thighs and a longing that nearly had her shoving him to the floor to sate her desire. Hot, inviting, he made her mouth water. She wondered if he tasted anything like the spicy cinnamon scent she inhaled every time she got near him and decided she needed to find out. Would it be in poor taste to seduce him when he was at his weakest? For some reason, she didn’t care, and that was really out of character for her.
“Sarah?”
She looked up and met his dark, brown eyes, noting a twinkle of mischief in them.
“Find something you like?” he chuckled.
Shit. She’d been caught staring at his ass. Well, it wasn’t her fault he filled out a pair of jeans like nobody’s business. Not to mention he was standing two steps up from her which put the muscular perfection right at eye level. She curled her lips upward. “As a matter of fact, yes. Yes, I did.” There, let him chew on that! She hoped he’d take it as a hint of her interest.
He tipped back his head in laughter. “Well, I guess I deserve that after I gawked at you.”
He pushed the door open, his features immediately schooled. Her heart ached for him and longed to see the sexy smile again. Her new goal was to get him through this and help him move on. She wanted to get to know the real Brock. The one who wasn’t in pain. “I’ll go first just to make sure it’s safe.” He slipped past the threshold and disappeared. Sarah remained on the first step, waiting for him to give her the all clear. Minutes later, he stuck his head out, his face ashen. “You can come in.”
She made her way up the remaining steps and through the doorway, not sure what she would find inside and half expecting her senses to be assaulted. She took in a deep breath and found the air to be crisp and clean. She must have had a puzzled look on her face.
“The spell kept everything out so there’s no mildew or mold,” he stated matter of fact.
She glanced around the spacious kitchen and felt as if she’d stepped back in time. The white porcelain refrigerator and gas range with its side storage compartment were state of the art for the period when the house had been previously occupied. Everything glistened as if freshly cleaned, waiting for the museum patrons to walk through the time capsule. She noticed Brock no longer stood next to her so she moved across the linoleum floor to the beige carpeted living room. She found him standing in the center, staring down at the floor.
“Brock?” She walked up and stood next to him. He didn’t respond and almost seemed to be mesmerized except that his hands balled into fists then released, only to repeat the process. Her heart fractured. Clearly, this was where he had found his mate. She reached out to touch him but hesitated unsure how he would respond. “Brock, maybe this wasn’t a good idea. I think we should leave.”
He lifted his head and glanced around the room. “No. I need to face my ghosts. I guess I wasn’t expecting it to be this difficult.” He ran his fingers through his short, blond hair. “Hell, I’m not really sure what I was expecting.”
It was heartbreaking to see him so vulnerable. This time, she didn’t stop herself from placing a hand on his arm.
“Is this where…?” She couldn’t finish the question without her voice giving away her emotions.
Did you always wanted to be a writer? If not what did you want to be?
When I was little, I actually wanted to be a vet. I realized later in life I hate blood. So no, I didn’t want to be a writer until very late in life.
When did you first consider yourself a “writer”?
After my first publication, Eternal Flame.
How long did it take to get your first book published?
From the start of the story to release date, it was approximately 18 months.
Do you do another job except for writing and can you tell us more about it?
I actually work in an office as an Admin.
What is the name of your latest book, and if you had to summarize it in less than 20 words what would you say?
Emerald Fire, Demon Heat #2.
A seductive, steamy read that involves, lust, love and chocolate, and ends with a happy ever after.
Who is your publisher? Or do you self-publish?
Resplendence Publishing
How long does it usually take you to write a book, from the original idea to finishing writing it?
It depends on the length. A novella I can do in about 3 months. A novel takes a little longer. If I really push, I just completed a novella in about 8 weeks.
What can we expect from you in the future? ie More books of the same genre? Books of a different genre?
I love paranormal romance so you will continue to see stories in that genre. The next few I have planned will be more on the steamy and less on the erotic side. My next release will be in Sept. Spanish Nights, A Jinn’s Seduction is a novella about a Jinn and his curse. Guardians #3, has a tentative date of Jan 2015.
What genre would you place your books into?
Paranormal romance
What made you decide to write that genre of book?
I love vampires and when I started reading this genre I fell in love with all of it. It’s also a genre where you can build your own world and make your own rules.
Do you have a favorite character from your books? And why are they your favorite?
I have to say that Brock, from Emerald Fire is a huge favorite. He is so wounded and willing to give up the woman he loves because he feels she can do better. He is a gentle alpha, when he wants to be of course.
How long have you been writing?, and who or what inspired you to write?
A little over 2 years. My husband actually when one day he asked me why I didn’t try writing my own stories since I loved to read so much.
Do you have a certain routine you have for writing? ie You listen to music, sit in a certain chair?
I used to require absolute silence. Now I can pretty much write any place. I don’t really have a routine.
Do you read all the reviews of your book/books?
I read as many as I can.
Do you choose a title first, or write the book then choose the title?
I have done both, but pretty much now I do the title first.
How do you come up with characters names and place names in your books?
Google, lol. Depends on what I’m looking for. I’ll use baby names for the characters and for places I often use some of the many generators you can find for writer online.
Are character names and place names decided after their creation? Or do you pick a character/place name and then invent them?
I have to have all that done before I write, otherwise I get stuck if I don’t have a name for something. It messes with my muse, lol.
Do you decide on character traits (ie shy, quiet, tomboy girl) before writing the whole book or as you go along?
Each character is different. Some I know right away who they are and how the will act. Others I get a better feel as I write the story.
Are there any hidden messages or morals contained in your books? (Morals as in like Aesops Fables type of "The moral of this story is..")
It is whatever a reader takes from the story. As far as do I plot hidden messages? No.
Which format of book do you prefer, eBook, hardback, or paperback?
I love ebooks. Would never read near as much if not for my Kindle. There is something to be said for paper especially when it’s signed by the author.
What is your favorite book and Why? Have you read it more than once?
Acheron, by Sherrilyn Kenyon. I was such an emotional wreck at the end of that book and impressed that she was so talented to leave me in that state. I don’t usually read books more than once since I have a huge TBR list.
Do you think books transfer to movies well? Which is you favorite/worst book to movie transfer?
The only one I can think where I read the book and saw the move was ET. No, it’s hard to convey many of the emotions and images you get from a book. I never go back either and read the books after I saw the movie.
Your favorite food is?
Big fat juicy cheeseburger.
Your favorite singer/group is?
I don’t really have one favorite. I like a blend of music.
Your favorite color is?
Purple.
Your favorite Author is?
I have so many, but…Rebecca Zanetti.
As a child, Valerie would often get into trouble for peeking at her mother’s favorite TV show, Dark Shadows. She can still hear her mother saying “It will give you nightmares.” She was right of course, but that did not stop Valerie from watching. As an adult, her love of the fanged creatures never waned. She would watch any vampire movie she could find.
Being a true romantic, Valerie was thrilled when she discovered the genre of paranormal romance. Her first read was one of Lara Adrian’s, Midnight Breed Series and from there she was hooked.
Today, Valerie has decided to take her darker, sensual side and put it to paper. When she is not busy creating a world full of steamy, hot men and strong, seductive women, she juggles her time between a full-time job, hubby and her two German shepherd dogs, in Northern IL.
Valerie is a member of Romance Writers of America and Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal Romance Writers.

Excerpt
I heard waves crashing as my nose caught the salty scent of the ocean. I rolled over to red rose petals scattered throughout the bed with a long stemmed one lying in the middle. Securing the sheet around me, I rested on my elbows before picking up the single rose. Ethan was on his side with his deep brown eyes on me. I twirled the rose and gave him a soft smile. He was without a shirt and propped on an elbow. His messy hair was wet with droplets of water dripping along his neck into the contours of his shoulders before sliding down his carved chest. The sunlight pouring in from the window made his body gleam. He always aroused me instantly, but staring at him now made him seem even more God-like and I wanted every part of him. “Did you take a shower without me? That has to be a first,” I speculated. Ethan reached over to tuck my hair behind my ears. His hand trailed down my side to rest on mine. “I got up at sunrise to catch some waves,” he clarified. “I didn’t know you surfed. I’m not surprised, since you like wakeboarding so much.” He brought our bodies so close that our chests were nearly touching. My heart sped up as he leaned over me with his hand clamped on my hip. “I surf, but you’re wrong about boarding. I don’t like it – I love it. Surfers get really pissy if boarders ruin their ride so I don’t wakeboard when I’m on the ocean. I settle for catching waves on a different board, but I don’t love it nearly as much.” I caught the passion in his eyes. Ethan loved doing anything on the water. My mouth twisted into an adoring grin as I stared at my magnificent boyfriend. “You taught me how to board. I suppose you can teach me how to surf too?” I offered. Ethan chuckled. “I’d love to. I’m not sure if we’ll have time on this trip. I’ll line up another one soon. We should go to Hawaii or Australia. If you’re going to learn, you might as well learn in one of the best surfing spots on the planet.” His hand veered from my hip down to my ass where he gently pinched me. Ethan licked his luscious lips with a hungry look in his eyes. I knew that look. My breaths started becoming shorter as I responded to his fingers traveling further down. Ethan hovered over me and pulled at my elbows so I dropped to my back. He took the rose out of my hand and set it on the nightstand before sliding down the sheet. His lips fell to my collarbone and water dripped from his hair into my cleavage. The coolness of it sizzled with the fire in me.About the Author
