Forward Momentum for February 2016
Here's what I've been up to!
Wayfarer League: Deadly Dispatch is live!
No, I did not stutter one bit! Deadly Dispatch is off and rolling! Now, its not free, and does require a subscription to Channillo to read it. But, as subscriptions go, it really is not that bad. The lowest subscription level is $4.99 a month, and you get access to your choice of up to 10 stories b...

Episode 43
The steel wrench missed Noel St. Claire’s head by inches, then clattered against floor somewhere behind him. Instinct made him jerk away in time, and he let out a slow breath.
His aim is improving, St. Claire observed. I need to lay hands on him before he improves any more.
St. Claire had cornered Farrow in one of the Britannia’s long workshops below the passenger decks. A claw hammer sailed through the dim gloom. This time St. Claire ducked for the relative safety between two shelves. The...

Episode 42
“She’s smarter than she looks,” Maris sneered.
The duchess stared holes into the senhorita. “Oh, she’s sharper than that. Give her a moment to get her bearings. I can see that even now, she’s assembling the pieces.”
Adonia Salgado glared at Von Ferrin. “Anthony’s journal. It mentions the key doesn’t it?”
“Quite right, it does. More specifically, it led me to understand the key is a ‘who’ not a ‘what’.” She waved a dismissive hand. “Anthony was never good with metaphors, so I’m sure when he re...

Episode 41
“In some way, she’s developed a method to preserve jellyfish tendrils and imbue them with an iodine venom,” Dr. Llwellyn said. His voice had a muffled, tinny quality to it that was not normal for the elf.
Senhorita Salgado jerked awake at the sound of the doctor’s voice. She felt wind on her face, and smelled the tang of brine. Last she remembered, she had been in a hallway. The set of conflicting facts jarred her further awake. She blinked at the filtered sunlight that greeted her, while her...

Episode 40
“Another emergency,” Dr. Llwellyn growled. His quick pace matched the irritable rise in his temperament. “From a utility room that was obviously bombed, to whatever happened in the starboard reading room, the Britannia is resembling a battlefield, not a passenger airship.” He frowned. “Why haven’t the passengers been evacuated on longskiffs?” he asked. “Surely they would be safer elsewhere.”
“From what I understand, the winches for the longskiffs were fouled by clockwork spiders,” Dr. Hunter...

A great idea!
But! Here is a great alternative when you can't get your hands on one, but can get a hold of a piece of paper.

I won't be using it for a comic book, but I have to try this!

Episode 39
While RiBeld fell quiet, Captain Hunter’s mind raced. A flurry of questions sprang to life. He sorted them out and selected what he felt was the most pressing to ask first. That was when Hunter realized Duke RiBeld was staring at him, expecting a comment.
The captain blinked. “My apologies, but I’m not accustomed to this level of,” he hesitated while he searched for a word. Hunter chose what seemed appropriate. “Civility from you. Why tell me any of this?”
RiBeld smiled at the captain. It mad...

Episode 38
Captain Hunter awoke with a start, a sharp convulsion shaking his limbs like a rattled marionette. The fog-like vapor of sleep burned away in the harsh light of pain. Hunter grimaced as a dozen small burn wounds clamored for his attention; behind those several more waited their turn. With his eyes closed, the captain took slow, shallow breaths until the pain ebbed away. Whether it faded, or he had gone numb, Hunter did not know or care. All he knew was that the sharp, sizzling sensations were...

Episode 37
They raced to the small security office. True to his words, Mason unlocked a tall locker and distributed needler pistols. Minutes later, the trio stopped short of the teak double doors to the starboard reading room. They were closed.
“Good, the bosun’s kept the area clear,” Mason said with approval. “Seems luck is on our side at last.”
“What about the doors?” Parker asked.
St. Claire shook his head. “Forget the doors, mon ami. Where is Monsieur McCabe? He said he would meet us here. The passe...

Episode 36
The trip to the Britannia’s infirmary proved less complicated than leaving it. Noel St. Claire and Tom Parker tried to retrace their steps back to the passenger staterooms, having left Captain Hunter for medical treatment. It was a sensible approach, but it put them in direct sight of a considerable number of the first and second class passengers, none of whom were in good spirits.
St. Claire blinked at the crowd. “I don’t think rumors of an explosion were well received,” he said in surprise...
