This quote from an early 70s Paley story felt very appropriate today:

“The kids! the kids! Though terrible troubles hang over them, such as the absolute end of the known world quickly by detonation or slowly through the easygoing destruction of natural resources, they are still, even now, optimistic, humorous, and brave. In fact, they intend enormous changes at the last minute.”

- “Enormous Changes at the Last Minute”, Grace Paley

(at SUNY New Paltz)

“The world is changed, yeah. That’s something I see a lot. Right now I’m thirty-three. I haven’t lived with my parents in a long, long time. And I do deal with all those things on my own, but there’s still something really deep-seated in our culture now, where you’re not really considered fully an adult until well into your late thirties. I have a two-and-half-year-old son, and I’m starting a family, and I still find myself looking around like, “Jesus, is this it? Am I really an adult now?””

I loved this book, WHY WE CAME TO THE CITY by @kristopherjans

People keep asking what it’s about, and I don’t want to give spoilers, but I do want to give a bit of a warning about the emotional content of the story.

So this is what I came up with.

This is so perfect! Thank you @rachelfershleiser! (I just saw the show Friday and am obsessed with Burr now, so I love it even more!)
