First Comic Con, first signing, a Buffy artifact completed, and...

First signing ever!

Did I mention how fun the signing was? Comic Con ROCKS.

I don't know what it is, but I like it. (It's Davy Jones tho, right?)

Serving Harley Quinn and security guard realness.

This is me and Gillian Anderson hanging out (well, our book covers at least).

My intrepid editor and publicist, manning the S&S booth with aplomb!

Preciouuuu--- eh, you know the rest.

And the circle is complete-- ten years in the making, my photo of the entire Buffy cast is finally complete, thanks to the lovely Amber Benson. She's a great writer to boot!

Yes, this is an actual line-- for me! 150 galleys signed, in 90 minutes. Everyone was so kind, and enthusiastic.

After-con dinner at Kebab Cafe in Astoria, where the amazing Ali served up a storm. Daryl Gregory, Kris Dikeman, Yuki Saeki, Liza Trombi, Adam Rakunas, Nancy Hightower, and yours truly. A perfect day.

First Comic Con, first signing, a Buffy artifact completed, and a whirlwind of a day. Very grateful, and well-fed, and exhausted. Thank you universe.

New York Comic Con ahoy! I will be signing galleys of The Glittering World at the Simon & Schuster booth (#1828) on Saturday— in fact, the first galleys available anywhere, ever. If you’re going to be there, come on down and say hi! Can’t wait.

"Robert Levy’s transcendent first novel balances on the knife-edge between psychological horror and mainstream thriller — a beautifully written book that propels readers into a deeply unsettling and moving journey through the uncanny, haunted byways of Nova Scotia and Celtic myth, and the even deeper mysteries of human loss and enduring love.  Levy’s work deserves a place beside that of Peter Straub, Graham Joyce, and Mark. Z. Danielewski: The Glittering World is one of the strongest literary debuts of recent years.”

– Elizabeth Hand, author of Available Dark and Generation Loss

So, yeah, on the heels of Laird Barron’s kind words, I am pretty much overwhelmed. Humbled by the praise, and amazed by the dead-on description of what I was trying to do with the book, what I always wanted it to be. There’s nothing else to say.

Went to the opening of the Crossing Brooklyn exhibition at the Brooklyn Museum, which was fun and also something of a mixed bag— enough with the interactive street art already, jeez!— but there was wonderful work as well, such as this African mask-inspired neon sculpture by Brendan Fernandes. Also ate dinner at Saul, still excellent since its move from Smith Street into the museum itself.

My novel has its first blurb, and it’s from one of my literary heroes:

"Robert Levy spins a dark and mythic tale. Exquisitely allegorical, this novel seethes with menace, romance, and mystery.  The Glittering World is a powerful debut."

—Laird Barron

I had the pleasure of seeing Laird read a new piece at WORD in Brooklyn last night along with the great Nicholas Kaufmann and L.A. Kornetsky (aka Laura Anne Gilman), and he was devastating as usual.

Some day I’ll write more about how much Laird’s work has meant to me—I think I’ve read pretty much everything he’s ever published—but for now I’ll just say how grateful I am for his support.

Hot the heels of finishing the first pass pages, my galleys have arrived! Galleys are actually printed from the same draft as the first pass pages, so the most recent changes haven’t been made. None of which were monumental, mind you, but man, nothing makes you feel more foolish than finding a typo or three on your hundredth read-through.

Most exciting of all, my baby is starting to resemble an actual, honest-to-God book! And I couldn’t be happier.
