Love is a legacy. 
I was thinking what we leave behind—what we have given to this world. I was thinking of my grandmothers...my dad and I smiled. Their passing left a void, but it is filled with memories. My grandmothers came from different worlds. One came from money and privilege; the other...not so much. If I credited one person for my writing it would have to be my Grandmother Dotson, the one with not so much money. I would sit for hours listening to her talk of her youth. She encouraged my imagination. She grew up the youngest of seven and she was the only girl. I can still picture her talking to me, her house, her room...even her smell. For some reason, we had a special connection. The greatest gift I ever received came from my Grandmother Dotson.
I am a middle child. No different than most middle children. In front of me, I had a beautiful sister who could do no wrong. Behind me, my brother, who got to go with my father everywhere because he was male. I was so envious. I felt that I kinda got lost in the mix. Grandmother Dotson made me feel special. Although she lived about an hour away, my mother and I would go visit every Saturday. Most times, it was only my mother and I that went. One Saturday in December...just after I turned eleven, we went to visit, only to find my grandmother collapsed on the floor. It was so strange and surreal. Even before Momma opened the door, I knew. I knew and already ran to the neighbors. My grandmother had passed away. Sadness enveloped me. It was only two weeks before Christmas.

Dear Readers, Fragmented was born out of my love for mysteries. It was also born out of my love for my community. Fragmented is set in Boston. Boston is my adopted home. I moved up here from the deep South back in 1985.Fragmented is dedicated to the people of my adopted home. During the marathon bombing, I have never been prouder of the place I call home. If you’re not from Boston, you might not realize what the Boston Marathon is to the city. It’s huge. The bombing was something that wasn’t supposed to happen in our country…our home…our Boston.I wasn’t in Boston when one of the suspects was killed and the other caught. I had flown out earlier that morning. I had gone back to Mississippi. While I was flying down South, the city of Boston was on lock down. I listened to travelers talk about Boston and I couldn’t have been prouder of the people. The people of Boston did what they needed to do.After the danger passed, it left the victims to pick up the pieces of their lives. In the immediate, the hearts of everyone opened up and gave. At the time, I pledged a week’s royalties and I did donate. I split what I gave between two charities. I pledged to do more. One of the things I comprehended quickly was how horrific some of the injuries were. They were life changing. Some of the victims have lifetime disabilities. I don’t want to forget the victims. In most crisis situations, I can’t do more than give a donation to a cause.But with the Boston Marathon bombing, I wanted…needed to do more. In the community I grew up in, when someone was in need, people gave what they could. Giving is a quality that I was instilled with as a child. It’s who I am. I want to give what I can. So I decided to give a part of me… my writing.This I pledge to you. I will donate half of my royalties that I get from Fragmented to a charity in Boston. Know this pledge comes from my heart.  I wanted to do something that would keep giving. Was my first Colleen Connally book and I am an instant fan. The book was truly enjoyable and kept me riveted to the story line from the first pages, not wanting to put the book down till it was finished. I will definitely read move of Connally's books and recommend this for all to read. Looking forward to more of Connally's future books. She has been added to my favorite authors list.

Fragmented is the perfect read for all those mystery/thriller lovers out there. It is a page turner that will have you guessing until the very end. The plots twist will have you doubting every character and their intentions. I would suggest you read this book when you have nothing to do the next day because you will absolutely not stop reading this until you find out what happens.

This story kept me on the edge of my seat as Alyce goes through the days trying to learn the truth. The suspense kept my heart racing as Alyce meets someone that knows something about her father. It turns out to be an attempt on her life. I literally held my breath until I knew she was alright.
Later in the story, Haynes takes Alyce through a journey of sensual feelings for Lord Julian. Alyce discovers that she is falling in love. And through the description Haynes uses throughout her story, I experience the same feelings Alyce felt. Haynes was able to make me place myself in this story to feel as if all the action that took place happened to me. I especially like when I read a book and can feel that way.
There is one scene toward the end of the book that made me not able to put the story down--when Alyce is led to old ruins at Colonel Tolworthy’s estate by someone trying to cause her harm. I stayed up late reading the last section of the book because I simply could not quit reading until I knew the outcome.
