Study Reveals That A Plant Based Diet

Is A Powerful Treatment For Diabetics

More than 100 million people today have diabetes or pre-diabetes.  A recent study conducted by a team of American and Japanese researchers shows that people who have diabetes can vastly improve their health by eating an entirely plant-based diet. (1) During my work with people who have diabetes, I have found that they show remarkable improvement in their health and well-being from consuming a plant-based, and almost completely raw food diet.

Dr. Gabriel Cousens promotes a mostly raw food, vegan diet in his book, There Is A Cure For Diabetes,  which he published in 2008. (2)

Researchers have done a meta-analysis (considered the highest level of scientific evidence), in which they compared six significant prior research studies, and they found that a plant-based diet significantly improved blood sugar control in Type-2 diabetes.  The results were that plant-based diets improved a key indicator of blood sugar control.  The blood sugar control indicator is called Hemoglobin A1c.  The results improved as much as 1.2 points, which is much greater than the effect of typical oral diabetes medicines. (3)

The new study focused on combining the results of all of the available studies.  The benefits of excluding meat, cheese, and eggs from the diet was as much as 0.7 points in some studies, and averaged 0.4 points overall. (4) This study also focused on long-term effects.  Participants in most of these studies were not required to reduce their calorie or carbohydrate consumption.  (5)

Diabetics who would like to reduce their medications can now understand that the type of food that they are consuming DOES have a direct impact on their health.

This new study is published in Cardiovascular Diagnosis and Therapy.  It is called “Vegetarian Diets and Glycemic Control in Diabetes:  A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis”.

Why It So Hard To Change The Way We Think About Fluoride?

Why It So Hard To Change The Way  We Think About Fluoride?

I’m posing a question.

Why is it that sometimes we get an idea so greatly ingrained in our mind that it seems almost impossible to forget it or change our thoughts? One of those ideas for me was coconut oil.

When I was growing up, I had been told that coconut oil was really bad for us and never to use it. They said coconut oil contained cholesterol and saturated fat. As I got older and started researching health and nutrition, I found out that pure organic coconut oil is actually very good for us and may be one of the best healing oils we can use for cooking, eating and also as a moisturizer for our skin. The cholesterol in the coconut oil is the “good” cholesterol that helps balance the “bad” cholesterol. There is even evidence that it can help prevent Alzheimer’s disease, because it supports brain health with its ketones. I had to quite literally change my mind from the way I had been taught to think about it.

I pose another question:

What if a doctor told you that he was going to prescribe a drug to you that had not been approved by the FDA (so it was illegal for him to prescribe it to you), that he wanted your whole family to take it, that he was not going to be able to regulate the amount each one of you received, that it was actually not the right type of drug the tests had shown to work, that this drug had been proven NOT to work in the way he was prescribing, that it could also cause brittle bones in the elderly, and cancer in boys, that it could cause severe thyroid problems and that, oh by the way, it was actually a toxic waste material. Would you TAKE it? What would you DO?

I ‘ve now become quite aware of the newest studies that have been done on the drug, fluoride. I grew up thinking, as most people, that fluoride was good for my dental health. I had been told for as long as I can remember that fluoride was good for preventing cavities. It’s an idea that is so deeply ingrained into our consciousness that it’s hard to change the way we’ve been taught to think.

My daughter lost one of her very dearest friends in high school to a rare bone cancer. Everyone who knew this wonderful young man was torn up with grief. There was no explanation whatsoever why this dear boy suddenly developed such a terrible disease called Osteosarcoma.

Just recently, I learned about a study done in 2001 on fluoride and osteosarcoma, which was a critical study in the form of a PhD dissertation at Harvard University (Bassin, 2001). “The thesis, authored by Dr. Elise Bassin found a strong, statistically-significant relationship between “fluoride exposure during the 6th through 8th years of life (the “mid-childhood growth spurt”) and the later development of osteosarcoma among young males.” (1)

Dr. Bassin’s research was an apparently extremely well-researched and detailed study, with accuracy on the assessment of her subjects and the content of their drinking water. Her work detected a direct association with fluoride and osteosarcoma. Her work and her findings show the fact that “bone is the principal site for fluoride accumulation within the body, and the rate of accumulation is elevated during the periods of bone development. Thus the cells in the bone, particularly during the growth spurts, may be exposed to some of the highest fluoride concentrations in the body. “ (2) Her study shows that fluoride is in fact, toxic and a carcinogen. This rare form of cancer, osteosarcoma, shows up in these young men in their late teens and early twenties. Her research and her findings have never been disproven.

I then looked back at where fluoride was first introduced as the way to prevent tooth decay, and at the study used to promote it. It was a study done in the cities of Newburgh and Kingston, NY, which are about 40 miles apart. They found that “after 10 years of the trial (which was methodologically flawed), it looked as if there was a large decrease in dental cavities in the fluoridated community, compared to the non-fluoridated community. However, when children were re-examined in these two cities in 1995 (50 years after the trial began), there was practically no difference in the dental decay in the two communities. If anything, the teeth in the non-fluoridated Kingston were slightly BETTER (Kumar and Green 1998).” (3)

What it looks like to me is that there was a study, with no long-term effect yet in place that promoted the use of fluoride in our water to provide better dental health. Yet as the long-term studies were done, they found that was actually not the case. It did not help with dental health, and in fact was found to cause many other detrimental health problems as a result of this toxic drug being added to the water supply. It was added in a way that was not regulated in dosage or concentration, thus causing an accumulative effect in people’s bodies.

Another thing I have learned over the years in my research of health and nutrition is the immense importance of water for our health. I have found that the QUALITY of the water or food that we eat is of vital importance to our health and well-being. Research today would show that most disease is actually a result of chronic intercellular dehydration. Our bodies are about 66-72% water. Blood uses water to transport oxygen, nutrients, and antibodies to every part of our body. Dr. Batmanghelidj, M.D. has written many books on the healing power of water to treat what he calls chronic intercellular dehydration. (4) So, our water supply is a highly valued and precious commodity.

Of course we need to have pure water to drink, but fluoride is not added to the water to purify the water. It is added with the idea that it helps prevent tooth decay. But the studies done on tooth decay were done with calcium fluoride. Yet, the fluoride added to our drinking water is different: sodium fluoride and fluorosilicic acid, that can be contaminated with lead and arsenic, and are actually toxic waste from aluminum and fertilizer plants. (5) So, this is not a fluoride that would even help with dental decay.

Look at the study done by leading dental researchers showing results that the mechanisms of fluoride’s benefits were mainly “topical not systemic,” meaning that it worked some, when they put it on the tooth topically. It didn’t work, if at all, when ingested. (6)

My thoughts on this have been, if a toxic substance is found to not help and in fact actually cause harm to health, then why not stop using it?

I pose that question.

Many cities spend a great deal of money (as much as $1, 000,000.00 or more) on purchasing the toxic waste from the fertilizer plants to put into our water supply. It is actually toxic waste until the city purchases it, and then it is legally called a product, simply because it has been “purchased.”

This is a product that has been proven: to NOT be the correct type of fluoride, to NOT work in an ingested form, to be an unapproved drug that cannot be regulated in dosage, to cause osteosarcoma in males, and to NOT even help with dental health. Even though we have done this for so long and it is so ingrained in our thoughts, I am posing a suggestion that maybe it is time to keep our water free of this toxic waste and help our water supply, stay cleaner and safer for our citizens. I’ve changed the way I think about fluoride in our water the same way I changed the way I think about coconut oil. Is this product good for our health? Sometimes it isn’t easy to admit that maybe we should do things differently, even though we have been doing it this way for so long. Change is not always easy. It takes a strong person to make change happen.

Studies show that dental decay has been DECLINING in every country at about the same rate, even before fluoride was introduced. It is still declining, whether they have fluoride or not. (7) Is it because the toothbrush was introduced? Maybe our hygiene has just improved over the last decade?

What I do realize from my research is that ingested fluoride can cause severe health problems, including and not limited to thyroid health problems (8), brittle bones (9) and cancer. (10)

If you agree with me on the dangers of fluoride, and would like to stop this procedure of adding fluoride to our drinking water, please let your local city councilman know how you feel. I’m sure they would like to know how their area residents feel about this matter. The council really has its constituents’ best interest at heart. Many of them made their previous decisions based on what they thought was right, and what was in the overall best interest of the community. But with the latest scientific studies and information detailing the dangers regarding this issue, they should be able to make a more educated and healthy decision. Please help make water safer for everyone. Contact your local councilman today.

Because these toxins are currently in our water supply, like fluoride and chlorine, I sincerely recommend putting a water purification system in your whole house. You can absorb as much water through your skin in a shower or bath as consuming 8 glasses of water. At the very least, consider getting a water purifier for your shower that removes chlorine and fluoride, and only use pure drinking water for cooking and drinking.

Another negative result is that plastic water bottles contribute to landfills and BPA plastic ingestion. In my own opinion, it would be much more environmentally responsible and healthy to have the public water supply fluoride free, so that it isn’t harming our health or the earth.

As for me, I will forever wonder …if my daughters’ dear friend’s death from osteosarcoma was not a result of having fluoride in our water supply.

Rosemary For Remembrance

Rosemary For Remembrance

By Nancy Addison CHC, AADP

I used to give my children rosemary to put in their pockets when they were leaving for school. I wanted them to think of me during the day at school. If my children were stressed or anything, they could reach in their pocket and have a little uplifting reminder that I loved them. I had been learning about aromatherapy. I had read that children who smelled rosemary or peppermint would score sometimes as much as 20% higher on tests. So, I made it a point to add aromatherapy to our lives. I also love the smell of rosemary. I’m finding out more and more that it is also good for memory.

“A team of psychologists at Northumbria University, Newcastle, tested the effects of essential oils from rosemary.”(1)

Dr. Mark Moss said “We wanted to build on our previous research that indicated rosemary aroma improved long-term memory and mental arithmetic.” (2)

Dr Mark Moss, who presented their findings at the British Psychology Society conference in Harrogate, said “the benefit of aromas was becoming clear through scientific investigation.” (3)

I’ve studies aromatherapy for years and knew that we are able to absorb molecules into our bloodstream through our nose. Our smell being one of our most powerful senses. Our nostrils being very absorbent.

“The chemicals also stimulate the olfactory nerve in the nose directly, which could have effects on brain functioning.

Researcher Jemma McCready said ‘The difference between the two groups was 60-75 per cent, for example one group would remember to do seven things compared with four tasks completed by those who did not smell the oil, and they were quicker.” (4)

So, take a piece of rosemary in your pocket today and smell it throughout the day to give you a lift and help you remember things better!

Love, Nancy

Fall & Comfort Food – Nancy Addison’s Favorite Cornbread Recipe

Fall & Comfort Food

       southern-cornbread-c

When my children were growing up, I made fresh bread at least once a week and I would time my baking so that it was ready right when they walked in the door from school. Their friends still talk about how great our home smelled.

Smell is one of our strongest senses and it invokes all kinds of memories and feelings. That is one of the reasons we crave certain foods at various times. When we smell or eat these certain foods, it gives us that feeling of comfort we may have felt at a special time in our life.

Well, the State Fair of Texas was here these last few weeks. For all of you that don’t know what it is, the State Fair of Texas is a big festival located in Dallas every year. It provides various kinds of entertainment, crafts, competitions, exotic food (like fried oreo cookies), games, shows, displays, vendors, a midway and animals It is the largest state fair in the US and runs for about 3 weeks.

I always loved eating the corn dogs that they sell there. Eating those corn dogs was a once a year special treat. It is one of my “comfort” foods from my childhood, because it reminds me of being with my family and friends at the fair.

When I became a vegetarian 27 years ago, I couldn’t eat the ones that they sell at the fair; so I decided to create my own! These are healthier, because they are baked and made from whole grain, healthier fats and organic ingredients.

The cornbread recipe for this dish can be made on it’s own as a delicious corn bread that can be served with your meal. Being from Texas and part of the south, my grandmother always made me cornbread and black eyed peas for dinner, when I would visit her; so it reminds me of my grandmother.

This may be a reason I like to make this bread or dish when my children are home visiting. Making this cornbread, as a part of the corn dogs, makes it special and a lot more fun as a meal or snack.

A great side bonus, is that it also makes the house smell great and feel comforting!

corndogsNancy’s Texas Corn Dogs

Home-made corn dogs! These are delicious and became one of my children’s favorite meals when they were growing up! These are a fun food to make for occasions like football watching parties. Be sure to buy certified, organic cornmeal. This recipe is fairly quick and easy, and, because it calls for quinoa flour, it is gluten-free.

Serve these warm with a little mustard or ketchup on the side.

This recipe calls for: tiny single loaf baking pans. I bought a bunch of them to use just for this recipe. If you have some large muffin pans or cups, you could use them instead.

Ingredients:

2 T. extra-virgin, pure coconut oil

1 c. whole grain, organic, non-GMO cornmeal

½ c. whole grain quinoa flour

1½ T. baking powder (non-aluminum)

½ tsp. baking soda

½ tsp. sea salt

2 eggs

1½ c. buttermilk

2 T. ghee, melted

2 T. honey

1 pack your choice of hot dogs ( I use a vegetarian version)

Directions:

1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

2. Place coconut oil in the tiniest loaf pans you can find, and let it melt in the oven for a couple of minutes. Remove from oven and set aside.

3. Sift together cornmeal, quinoa flour, baking powder, baking soda, and sea salt.

4. In a large bowl, beat eggs.

5. Add buttermilk, melted ghee, honey, and melted coconut oil to beaten eggs, and beat together.

6. Place a tiny piece of parchment paper in the bottom of each pan.

Coat with coconut oil, and then turn it over and leave it in the bottom of the pan. (This will make it much easier to take out of the pan when it is finished.)

7. Cut hot dogs to fit into the pan lengthwise. Leave a little space at each end for the cornbread to cover it.

8. Add dry ingredients to wet ingredients.

9. Pour batter into the pans over parchment paper.

10. Cut the hot dogs; so that they will fit into the pan neatly in the middle of the corn bread. Place hot dogs in the center of the pan, so that they are surrounded by the corn bread on all sides.

11. Bake about 35 minutes. Tops should be golden brown and sides should have pulled away from the sides of the pan. (You can do the toothpick test to see if the center is done.)

This recipe will make about 12 mini corn dogs.

Notes:

1. Have hot dogs ready. When the batter is ready, it is best to get it

into the pans and then the oven very quickly.

2. Larger-sized hot dogs usually taste better.

This recipe calls for tiny loaf pans that are made for baking bread. They are sold separately or as a large pan with individual, mini-loaf spaces. Many stores, including Sur La Table, Williams-Sonoma, Crate and Barrel, and Target, sell the pans. If you don’t want to buy one, simply use a small cooking container that is about an inch and a half deep and longer than it is wide.

You can buy the sticks to put the corn dogs on at those stores as well!

Remember to put in the main ingredient.

The Main Ingredient is Always Love!

Charlene Tilton, Sheree Wilson, Brook Boleyn, And Nancy Addison Attend The White Bridle Equine Therapy

Fundraiser Event In Dallas, TX

Last night I attended the White Bridle Therapy and Horse Rescue Event. It was a wonderful evening at the home of Debbie Mullen and Tim Alexander. The band was Johnny Roger’s band from Chicago. One of his claims to fame, other than being a terrific musician and singer, is that he is Elvis’s 3rd cousin. He played some wonderful country music.

Charlene Tilton ( stared in the TV show “Dallas”) was there along with one of White Bridle’s main chairwomen: Sheree Wilson ( stared in the TV Show “Walker Texas Ranger”) and founder of White Bridle Therapy,  Brook Boleyn. I have volunteered with White Bridle since it was very young. I love horses and children and this has been a terrific experience for me working with this group.

They provide Equine Therapy for children with Autism as well as other health challenges. I also love the fact that they have rescued many fine horses from becoming dog/pet food. Horses are so magnificent and regal. They deserve more humane treatment. This is a wonderful group and I know they have helped many children and horses live happier lives.

“White Bridle’s mission is to serve our community with equine-assisted programs that enable people to live happier, more productive and rewarding lives.

White Bridle is located in Keller,Texas and provides an equine-facilitated therapy program for children.  We offer both a learning program based on our client’s IEP and a speech therapy program.  The programs are a half and hour or an hour long.

The speech therapy program is year round; and the learning programs are booked in 5, 8 or 10 week sessions. “

Fluoride In The Water Supply Is Toxic Waste & Is A Health Toxin

Dr. Strayder, Nancy Addison Dr. William Osmunson, Dr. Paul Connett

Fluoride In The Water Supply Is Toxic Waste & Is A Health Toxin

I spoke at a Town Hall Meeting Last night. Important subject that affects us all in the Dallas area. 25 cities around Dallas buy their water from Dallas with this toxic waste / unapproved by the FDA – drug added to our water in a way where they cannot control the dosage at all.

Babies, children are getting amounts that can cause serious health problems, including rare cancers. It can also cause thyroid  and bone problems in a large amount of the population, depending on how much you are ingesting. Too much fluoride can weaken the bones and cause them to become more brittle. It has been linked to bone cancers. It is worse for people who cannot afford to buy purified water or have a water purifier in their home. From my research, there is no benefit from adding this to our water system.

Please help us stop this.

Would you take a drug from a doctor when he can’t control the amount you are getting?

This drug is not approved by the FDA, it is literally toxic waste they are putting into our water at a cost of a million dollars to the tax payers.

Please help stop this tragedy.

Here is an excerpt of my water chapter  from my book:

Water

Water is one key nutrient to our health and well-being. Our bodies are about 66–72% water. Blood uses the water to transport oxygen, nutrients, and antibodies to all parts of the body. Many illnesses are actually a result of dehydration.

Almost all public water supplies have added chemicals to the water supply, including sodium fluoride and chlorine, both of which are poisons. Chlorine was the first poison developed for warfare. Chlorine also destroys the Vitamin E in the body and the good probiotics in the intestines. “Industrial chemist J.P. Bercz, PhD, showed in 1992 that chlorinated water alters and destroys unsaturated essential fatty acids (EFAs), [14] the building blocks of people’s brains and central nervous systems.”135

While showering or swimming in chlorinated water, the chlorine soaks into the skin cells. Our skin is our largest organ. That is why the patch is used to give medicines to people; they absorb directly into the skin and from there into the blood stream.

Research linking swimming in chlorinated pools to cancer and other medical conditions continues to make headlines. The latest such studies come from the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology in Barcelona, Spain. They indicate, among other things, that swimming in a pool with chlorine may increase the risk of developing cancer and damage lungs.136

Sodium fluoride and fluorosilicic acid are common chemicals added to our municipal water supply. Studies were done for tooth decay prevention with calcium fluoride. The companies that had a by-product of sodium fluoride (that can be contaminated with lead and arsenic as well) are companies that make aluminum and fertilizers. Sodium fluoride is the fluoride that the government adds to the water supply. This is added on the pretext that it is good for our teeth and health, but dental studies were done using calcium fluoride, so this is a different type of fluoride from what is being added to the water supply. Fluoride has been used in Chinese medicine as a tranquilizer and also in many places as a rat poison.

According to Paul Connett, PhD, “Fluoride is a cumulative poison. On average, only 50% of the fluoride we ingest each day is excreted through the kidneys. The remainder accumulates in our bones, pineal gland, and other tissues. If the kidney is damaged, fluoride accumulation will increase, and with it, the likelihood of harm.”137 Fluoride affects the thyroid gland and all our enzymatic systems. Side effects from fluoride include weight problems, damage to our immune system, and other serious disorders. These chemically derived fluorides are completely different from naturally occurring fluoride.

Fluoride affects different people and ages differently. According to Connett:

The level of fluoride put into water (1 ppm) is up to 200 times higher than normally found in mothers’ milk (0.005–0.01 ppm) (Ekstrand 1981; Institute of Medicine 1997). There are no benefits, only risks, for infants ingesting this heightened level of fluoride at such an early age (this is an age where susceptibility to environmental toxins is particularly high).138

Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Germany, Belgium, Norway, and France do not put fluoride in their water. Some of these countries have made it illegal to add to the water supply.

Pam Had Fibromyalgia, She Has Recovered And Is Feeling Great Now, Thanks To Jusuru!

Pam and Nancy at jusuru conventionPam Had Fibromyalgia, She Has Recovered And Is Feeling Great Now,

Thanks To Jusuru’s Liquid BioCell!

Recently I attended the Jusuru National Convention. I met a lady named Pam there. My friend Montein talks to her in this video. Pam had fibromyalgia.

How To Have A Healthy Halloween

By Guest Author October 15th, 2014 Healthy Kids & Food Education0 Comments

Halloween is almost here and everyone is wondering what costume to wear and what treats to give. Careful planning can make this holiday more enjoyable than you imagined.

Sugar is usually the treat of choice, but it is harmful to our health. Since we want to set a good example for our children, I‘ve found some truly wonderful alternatives that are enjoyable and entertaining. While children may not always appear to be listening, they are always watching, so send a consistent message that healthy eating is important—even on holidays. This can be challenging when the rest of the country is trying to eat as many pieces of candy and sugary desserts as possible.

According to research, one teaspoon of sugar can shut down a person’s immune system for up to 5 hours.[1] Yale University says that children should get only 3 to 4 teaspoons of sugar per day and that an adult should limit intake to 5 teaspoons.[2] This is even possible on Halloween. We all benefit from avoiding going overboard on holiday occasions.

Try to find a healthy balance for your children’s food intake and create an atmosphere of wise choices. First, before going trick-or-treating with your children or sending them to a Halloween party, serve a filling and healthy meal so that tempting sugary desserts and candy aren’t eaten simply because of hunger.

You can also pass out non-edible treats as substitutes for candy. Try things like stickers, crayons, bubbles, kaleidoscopes, slinkies, yoyos, sidewalk chalk, small flashlights, glow sticks, hacky sacks, funny glasses, or other fun gifts. You can even pass out toothbrushes! You can find packs of these online or at the local party or craft stores. Make sure you pick age appropriate treats for children, and especially make sure that the gifts do not include small parts that a child could choke on. Some gifts may be better for smaller children, while others may be more fun or safer for older children.

If you would prefer to hand out edible treats, try some commercially-packaged alternatives to candy like trail mixes, raisins, popcorn packets, or nut butter crackers. People will trust packages from the grocery store more than homemade items, as they are sealed.

For a home party, you can make healthy pumpkin muffins, popcorn with nuts and raisins, or a Goblin Goulash. It is the perfect time to serve a green kale smoothie! (Which I suggest calling for a Halloween drink/treat, Goblin Goulash!) Guests will think they are having a special Halloween drink, when in reality you are introducing a healthy green drink.

With childhood obesity on the rise at an alarming rate, literally doubling over the last 30 years, it is good to be someone who isn’t contributing to the sugar disease epidemic. You’d be surprised how much all of us enjoy an alternative to the sugar laden candy that is so common.

If your child goes trick-or-treating, instruct your child to wait and allow you to inspect the food they collect before they eat it. Tell them that if any candy or food they received isn’t wrapped professionally (commercially), they should throw it away, especially if it looks like there is any kind of tampering (tears, holes, discoloration, etc.) with the package. I always threw out any kind of candy or treat that my children were given that looked suspicious in any way. Don’t take a chance, just throw it out if there is doubt.

If you allow your children to eat candy or treats, be aware that some have a shelf life. If you are allowing your child to have one or two pieces per day, check the candy for freshness or an expiration date before he or she can have it. Teach your children to do this as well. Children can be very responsible if given the chance.

Children’s teeth and gums are damaged by sugar. Dental decay can be painful and damaging to a child’s health. Conditions like this can challenge a person for their entire life. Help your children make the best decisions for their health now. Make certain they brush and floss after consuming sweets. Your children will always be grateful for the love you show them. They may not show it today, but they will recognize and appreciate it more as they grow older.

For Halloween, spend time together, play fun music, bob for apples, make jack-o-lanterns, and bake pumpkin bread or other items that benefit your family’s health. This shows your family how much you really care about them. May you have a fun, safe Halloween holiday.

Goblin Goulash for Halloween by Holistic Nutrition Expert – Nancy Addison

 Goblin Goulash for Halloween

The 4 million dollar sugar industry’s Halloween festival could be just the opportunity you have been waiting for to introduce new foods to your child’s diet. Instead of the normal refined sugar and high-fructose corn syrup candies that give their body a roller coaster ride, try making them a healthy treat that is also fun.

We want to protect our children from harm in all aspects of their lives and diet is a crucial way of protecting them. The Journal of the American Dietetic Association published in 1998 showed that children consumed an average of 29 teaspoons of sugar each day, and it is scary to think how much sugar they can ingest in a single day around Halloween and the holidays. Sugar breaks down the immune system and stresses the body severely, contributing to diabetes, obesity, tooth decay, and a host of other health problems.

Halloween, however, allows a parent the opportunity to use the spooky goblin, monster theme to make new dishes seem fun and exciting. Did you ever think that green food is the perfect choice for a monster goulash, Martian moss drink or witch’s brew? This wonderful, raw, nutrient-dense food can help counteract all the sugar dense-foods they may be eating elsewhere. Children’s organs are forming up into their twenties and the food they eat goes directly into the formation of these organs. Therefore, it is crucial that the foods they eat have a pure, nutrient-dense nature. This makes choosing organic food much more important for children than adults

I highly recommend making this green smoothie, which is incredibly healthy. It can help adjust the bodies’ PH balance. It may sound spooky to you at first, but give it a try; you may be surprised by the taste. We create and renew taste buds about every two weeks if we are healthy and eating well; which means we are creating new taste buds to adjust to what we are continually eating. So if a healthier change of diet is desired, try eating the new healthful food for at least two weeks. This will give the body a chance to renew itself and add taste buds adjusted to the new healthier diet.

When adjusting a child’s diet to include better quality food, a helpful method of encouragement can be rewarding them for trying (a few bites, at least 10 times or for two weeks) this new food. There is a good chance that when those two weeks are over, they may actually like the new food. Gold stars, a special outing, playing a game with them, or a morning of art can be wonderful rewards for children trying new and interesting dishes.

When your child comes down for breakfast on Halloween week, have a green monster drink, witch’s brew, goblin goulash, or Martian moss smoothie ready in the fun spirit of the holiday, and know that you’re giving them something nutritious.

It is best to make this drink in a good blender, because they can turn nuts, seeds, unskinned fruit, and vegetables to a liquid easily. This drink is rich in phytonutrients and vitamin C, so try to drink it within 20 minutes, because the nutrients begin to dissipate after that time. Iron is more absorbable into the body when vitamin C is present, so if you use spinach, this drink will be rich with vitamin C and Iron. In addition, leafy greens, such as the ones in this recipe, are high in protein without the unhealthy effects of many types of meat. Spinach is actually 45% protein!

Goblin Goulash

1 to 2 cups               Leafy Greens (fresh spinach, romaine, kale in any combination and torn into pieces)

2                  Whole fruits (Pear, apple, or combination) chopped into chucks with seeds and stems removed; leaving the skin on if you have a good blender.

3                      Dates (soaked in water to soften) seed removed.

2 cups              Pure Water (more water can be added to desired consistency)

1 Tablespoon   Flax seed oil (cold pressed)

1 Tablesppon.  Lemon Juice ( freshly juiced and used immediately)

Directions: Put all ingredients in the Blender and blend. Serve immediately.

Have a safe, healthy and ghoulishly fun Halloween!
