The middle gif on the right is literally the way I side-eye a spider on the wall/floor that I need to kill but am afraid of. I see massive distrust, a whole lot of dislike, if not outright hatred, and if not fear, then certainly wariness. Perfect set-up to re-kindle a marriage that literally has no foundation. He doesn’t even know who she is, and more to the point, he doesn’t want to.

Sherlock’s treatment of John in s3 is an active rejection of the concept of the friend zone. Sherlock is willing to do everything for John, but he doesn’t expect John to fall in love with him because of this. Sherlock abandons his work for John. He puts his life on hold for John. He throws himself headfirst into a fire for John. But he doesn’t think that his sacrifice and devotion mean that John owes him gratitude in the form of romantic love. Or in any form. Does he ever suggest that John is ungrateful? Does he ever balk at doing anything for John?
You know who does think John owes her romantic love? Mary. Mary is willing to murder in order to preserve her romantic relationship with John. A relationship that is founded on a mountain of lies. She acts like John owes himself to her right from the first time we meet her, “I agree. I’m the best thing that could have happened to you.”
And yet what have we seen her do for John’s sole benefit? One single sacrifice? When has she made John happy? Made him laugh? Does he take comfort and pleasure from her presence? Does she do anything at all to encourage him to do so? But she still acts like she owns him.
What an amazing contrast moftiss has provided for us. Sherlock does everything for John and asks for nothing in return. Mary does nothing for John and demands his whole life.
This, every word of it.

I was so angry at John for most of this fic
But then you read the companion fic from John’s POV and you understood more, right?? :) I mean - yeah. But he thought he was saving their friendship from the ruin Sherlock was misguidedly trying to drive them toward!
john: he's sherlock who would he bother protecting
me: YOU THOUGHT HE WAS OBTUSE WHEN YOU WERE ASKING HIM TO BE BEST MAN AND THEN YOU GO SAY THIS SHIT

And people occasionally think I hate John because I make him obtuse in my fics (sometimes). I just want to give John the most loving, wake-up-y punch in the face and then hug him when he realises what a douche he's been. I mean, they're both emotionally challenged morons; that's why they're so perfect together. I just want them to figure their shit out. Please, just let them be happy. That's all I want in this life.
