Hey hey! I started a new fic!! :D At 8:30am! This is very unlike me! :P Now that I’ve fulfilled my promise and gotten my HP catalogue back online and available, I’m free to write Johnlock again, so I am! Here’s the first sentence of the new story:

Sherlock squints across the narrow, wobbling table and wishes for the seventeenth time that some idiot from behind the bar would come and shore it up with a wedge of serviettes or else just make the floor level, or whatever it would take to keep the thing from swaying precariously every time he forgets and puts his right elbow down onto it again.

Hello everyone!

In March, I discovered to my dismay that skyehawke.com had closed without warning and that I had lost all of my Harry Potter fics. I was upset, obviously. I had left the HP fandom many years ago, and had zero interest in promoting or discussing anything I had written, but I had always promised that I would leave my stories online and available, ideally all in one place. That place was skyehawke.com. When I re-joined fandom life in general after a lengthy hiatus, ao3 had sprung up and that’s where I started posting my Sherlock fics. People have asked me repeatedly about the possibility of moving my HP fics over there and I always said, quite firmly, absolutely not.

As stated above beneath the cut, there are a couple of things to note:

I didn’t reformat them. I just couldn’t. It would have taken me years to correct the double spacing between paragraphs alone, and all of the html for italics… I had thought about it, but just no.-I didn’t edit them. I thought about that, too, but the thought of reading the older stuff, ESPECIALLY the ships I stopped shipping like 15 years ago, was also just a big no. I haven’t re-read any of them, though I might re-read some of the more recent ones. I don’t even remember what a lot of them were about. I left comments open, but every story comes with a note that states that I won’t be answering comments. That said, if you’re reading a fic and spot a truly egregious typo, you can absolutely let me know and I’ll fix it. You can also just comment if you really want to. I’ve gotten several already, and still appreciate them, even if I’m not responding. Amusingly, some of them are also just confusing because I can’t remember what the story itself was about, at all. Lol. I found it interesting, nostalgic, and increasingly melancholy to first remember many of these stories, especially some of the later ones that were so deeply entrenched in my heart. It was also hard, somehow, to watch how my writing petered out in that fandom. I don’t mean in quality, but in the sporadic nature of it. I can track what was going on in my offscreen life very clearly: at the end of August 2007, I moved to another city and started my masters. I didn’t write a single fic in 2008. I wrote one in 2009, then in January of 2010, I wrote my last Harry Potter fic. After that, nothing.

I genuinely thought I was done with fandom and done with writing. JKR made me fall out of love with HP hard. My real life and career were taking off and I thought I had left fannish things behind me.

… until May 2013, when I discovered Benedict Cumberbatch via Star Trek Into Darkness, and knew that I needed to consume everything else he had ever done. There were only two series of Sherlock at that point, though setlock for series 3 was about to start. I think I got to ASIB when I went looking for fan discussion and reviews, and before I had even finished TRF, the old itch came back and I knew I was going to have to write these characters. By that point, social spaces for fandom had changed, archives had changed, ao3 had sprung up, and I didn’t know where any of the people I used to know had gone. But I found some of you, and some of you beautiful people that I still know now are people who I knew back then, and some of you even started reading my brand new, slightly-uncertain Sherlock work, sheerly on the basis of your belief in my writing based on my HP work. So, thank you for that. I will always value my HP work and the world of people it introduced me to, and I will never be so arrogant as to think that fandom is something that one “outgrows”. You can leave it behind, but fandom is for everyone. So for all of you who have been asking me since my return to fanspaces in 2013, YES: I have finally uploaded my HP stories to ao3, in all of their imperfection and verbosity. <3
