One of my most favorite photos of Benedict...

One of my most favorite photos of Benedict comes from Frankenstein…or rather, the Frankenstein makeup chair. Look at that smile! Look at the unruly waves being tamed! Look at that beautiful neck and throat! Look at me slipping gracefully off my chair to the floor!
He is so adorable. I can’t even.

SARAH: What are...

SARAH: What are these squiggles?
(Sherlock raises his head, his face set as if he’s trying very hard not to kill her.)
SHERLOCK (still not looking round at her): They’re numbers. An ancient Chinese dialect.
SARAH: Oh, right! Yeah, well, of course I should have known that(!)
thanks to Ariane DeVere’s fantastic transcript
@bakingsherlycakes @silentauroriamthereal @ben-locked @jobooksncoffee @jolieblack dang I’ve left someone out and I’m so sleepy I can’t remember who
Tell me this isn’t the most gorgeous photoset you’ve seen today (I’ll tell you you’re lying)

Are those eyes manipulated or is it me?
No, those are really his eyes!! Also, I love the sudden mask drop of his “wasn’t it?” in this scene! This is still one of the best episodes, imo

Fanfiction Club: The Rules
This idea came to me when I woke up first thing this morning.
This is gold.
i do not see a flaw
[SLAMMING REBLOG BUTTON REPEATEDLY]
NORMALIZING COMMENTING EVERY TIME YOU KUDOS BECAUSE FANFIC WRITERS CANT READ YOUR MIND TO KNOW WHAT YOUR FAVE PARTS WERE PLEASE
Comments make writers happy
Yesssss to all of this!!!!! Friendly reminder from one of your (many) neighbourhood fic writers that:
1) Your comment does not need to be profound! It can be short and sweet. Ideally sweet. Lol.
2) Comments literally feed our drive to keep writing, so if you want more fic, say nice things about the fic!
3) This one might be controversial, but: don’t make it sound like you’re doing the author a massive favour by having left a comment. We already wrote the however-many-words long thing, which took us hours and hours and hours and hours of time. We do it for free. Getting a comment like, “I don’t usually comment/I’ve never commented on a story before, but in this case I’m making an exception for (whatever reason)” - like, thanks, but also why are you so damned chintzy with your comments?? Commenting is the least you can do, if you made it all the way to the end of the story.
4) If you didn’t like it, no need to say so. Just hit that back button and graciously show yourself out. That’s enough. It’s okay. Nobody expects that every single person will like every single word that they wrote (hope, yes; expect, no!). Just go your merry way and find something that’s more to your tastes.
5) On the above: do not EVER chastise a writer for having written to their interpretation or taste. That’s literally the entire point of writing fanfic: to write things as we prefer or see them. You don’t have to agree. But it’s not on you to scold any other writer for having done exactly this.

Self-repost series time! So, every time a new series comes out,...

Self-repost series time! So, every time a new series comes out, I consider it my mission in life to fix whatever was wrong with it. I don’t have one single fix for any of the issues I personally consider to have been problematic with any one series, so I write as many takes on what a fix could look like until there’s more canon to contend with and fix. It’s exhausting, lol. From 2014-2017, I wrote continuously, only stopping within a week of series 4 airing. My deal is that, while the end solutions may look similar (I mean, the entire POINT for me is for Sherlock and John to be a couple and to fix any barriers to allowing that to happen, essentially, so they WILL end up together!), the idea is for the journey to be different each time. So for series 4, which is arguably the most difficult series to fix (yet… *side-eyes Moftiss with deep distrust*), I essentially focused on a specific issue to fix with each successive fix-it. This is the third long fic I wrote after series 3 aired, and the angle it specifically attacks fixes is the godawful straightwashing of series 4, specifically the notion of Irene Adler being in any way a good romantic partner for Sherlock, John’s weird, out of character pushing of her on Sherlock, etc. This story also uses the leitmotif of John being chained to the well as a direct comparison of his own self-imprisonment of not seizing his own agency, of insisting on his heterosexuality and repression of his feelings for Sherlock, feeling helpless to do anything about Sherlock and Irene, etc. It was a fun way of going about it! If you haven’t read this one before, I hope you like it! If you have read it before and feel like re-reading it, I hope you enjoy it again (if you did the first time, lol). Anyway, happy Saturday. Rumour has it that it’s Saturday, at least.
Title: From the Bottom of the Well
Author: SilentAuror
Pairing/genre: John/Sherlock, series 4 fix-it, romance
Length: 36,079 words
Summary:
John keeps dreaming of being trapped in the well at Musgrave Hall. As Irene Adler makes a reappearance in their lives, the well proves to be an apt metaphor for John’s inability to make a move toward what he’s always wanted…
Warnings: None in particular.
