“I want a 3 year old in a tutu to bring Thor’s hammer to him” - castielinablanket, x

This isn’t supposed to be Claire Rogers of Ragnarok: I Bring the Fire Part VI, but … if the tutu fits …

(First installment is free, but she’s not a major character until Part V … to be fair, she’s eight at the beginning of the series).

Happy Thorsday

Freyr (or Frey) is one of the most important Vanir gods of Norse paganism, associated with sacral kingship, virility and prosperity, with sunshine and fair weather. Son of the sea god Njörðr, and twin brother of the goddess Freyja.
Gullinbursti is the name of his shining dwarf-made boar.

Brothers’ Oaths by Helena Rosova

“Do you remember, Odin, when in bygone days
we mixed our blood together?
You said you would never drink ale
unless it were brought to both of us.”

“Mantu þat, Óðinn, er vit í árdaga
blendum blóði saman?
Ölvi bergja lézktu eigi mundu,
nema okkr væri báðum borit.”

I actually feel bad for the terrifying alien orcas getting it. They were just trying to eat!

I felt bad for the man-eating orcas in Warriors and Ragnarok too. Chaos brings destruction and death wherever (s)he goes.

I FOUND A NEW SERIES–and the first book is FREE on Amazon, B&N, Kobo, and iBooks.

In the magical world of Lucernis, Amra, a lowly thief, finds her best friend brutally murdered and vows revenge. Right there you’ve got a great character–she’s slippery, obviously, but she’s also got an honor code. Avenging her friend turns out to be more difficult than she expected though, his latest job involved some ancient, powerful artifacts that some very unpleasant people (and steampunkish giant crabs) want.

The character development in this story was great. The descriptions weren’t overblown, they were just enough to give you the setting while the plot hummed along. The prose was a lot better than mine, and it was FUNNY. I love funny.

I went ahead and bought the next book, The Thief that Spat in Luck’s Good Eye, right away. I haven’t finished it … review will be coming.

This series has apparently been picked up by a publisher, so if you want to get the first book free, now would be a good time.

Le génie du mal [The genius of evil, aka; Lucifer];  Guillaume Geefs

“The statue was originally a commission for Geefs’ younger brother Joseph, who completed it in 1842 and installed it the following year. It generated controversy at once and was criticized for not representing a Christian ideal. The cathedral administration declared that “this devil is too sublime.” The local press intimated that the work was distracting the “pretty penitent girls” who should have been listening to the sermons.” [x]

I love this post. The Devil Himself is one of the heroes in my friend Christine Pope’s Sympathy for the Devil. You can get it free as part of the Gods and Mortals box set (Zon, iBooks, B&N, Kobo) … or pay for it on Amazon. It’s sort of a 1940s romantic comedy–you know, witty banter, gorgeous hero and heroine–but with sex and, well, the Devil.

To forage or not to forage, that is the question:
Whether ‘tis nobler in the mind to hunger
for the nuts and berries of outrageous fortune
Or to hibernate in before the coming chills of winter,
And by opposing to sleep at all. To eat- to sleep-
No more; and by a sleep to say we end
The hunger, and the thousand natural shocks
That the stomach is heir to. ‘Tis a consummation
Devoutly to be wish’d. To hunger- to sleep.

SHAKESBEAR

I am a bear. Hath not a bear eyes?

Hath not a bear paws, muzzle, dimensions, senses, affections, passions,

Fed with the same honey, hurt by the same bees

subject to the same hunters, maul by the same claws?

Warm’d and cool’d by the same winter and summer, as a moose is?

If you prick us, do we not roar?

If you tickle us, do we not bear hug?

If you poison us, do we not get tummy aches?

And if you wrong us, do we not revenge?

If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that.

But, soft! what light through yonder tree bows breaks?
It is the east, and Honey is the sun.
Fall down, fair honey, and kill my paining hunger,
Who is already rumbly and grumbly from this morning’s breakfast,
That mine lunch art far more fair than breakfast:
Be not that meal, since it is envious;
Those berries were but sick and green
And none but cubs would eat them; cast them off.
It is my lunch, O, it is my love!
O, that sweetness knew it were!
It drips yet it still stays above my head: what of that?
Her hive discourses; I will answer it.
I am too bold, ‘tis not to me it drips:
The sweetest liquid gold in all the lands,
Having some business, do entreat that hive
To twinkle against the comb till they return.
What if the liquid were there, they in those combs?
The brightness of that hive would shame those stars,
As daylight doth a cave; her gold in those walls.
Would through the dark region stream so bright
That bats would sleep and think it were not night.
See, how it continues to flow above my head!
O, that I were a bee upon that gold,
That I might touch that gold!

Shakesbear wanted to break out of his typecast role in Twelfth Night.
