If I Have One Piece of Advice for Someone Who Wants to Publish a Novel
It would be, have some people read it—preferably at least six. If no one wants to read it, you realize you have major problems. Actually, scratch that. Even if you have six people who want to read it, who really like it, you still have major problems. Every book does.
Don’t have an established fanbase to draw on? I’ve heard good things about Critique Circle. You create an account and earn credits by critiquing other people’s work.

Yay! Someone asked a question!
Thank you anon!
Do you listen to music when you write and if so what? If not, why?
I usually start off with one song that fits my mood. I play it maybe once or twice, and then don’t listen to music. I find music too distracting and write much faster without it.
Yesterday I was listening to “Monster” by Eminem.

I was wondering if you've read Runemarks by Joanne Harris? If not, you should give it a look! I found the main character very intelligent and relatable and I feel like the descriptions of the gods were pretty accurate most of the time. I think you might en
Hi Dragonsnax,
Thank you for the recommendation! Runemarks and The Gospel of Loki are on my reading list — but I won’t touch them until after the I Bring the Fire series is done. Ditto for Loki by Mike Vaisch (though I have purchased it—have to support my fellow authors). I am reading Christophor Moore’s Coyote Blue at the moment… but only because it’s about another trickster. I’ve also read Alydia Rackham’s Baldur’s Tears; I’m familiar enough with her work to know her interpretation will be very different from my own.
I’m afraid of too much cross pollination, so I’ve been sticking to non-fiction retelling of the myths. This way, if I’m too “derivative”, I can honestly say it was an accident. :-P
