David was born on an Air Force base in the Deep South, grew up the son of a cop along the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, and decided to give writing a shot soon after realizing that his grade point average would never get him into medical school. As an investigative journalist, most notably with the Los Angeles Times, he chronicled affairs of state, all manner of catastrophes, and the activities of the US military, including Operation Desert Storm. He spent myriad hours hunting for smoking guns in dusty archives, meeting confidential sources in bars and parking garages, and digging through trash cans long after midnight. Glad you’ve enjoyed Logan and his adventures. I share your affection for small airports and old pilots. The history both radiate is palpable and, for anyone who loves aviation, irresistible. Look for a new Logan mystery next year. Best regards, David(less)

Hi Bruce:

I spent three weeks in Hanoi doing research for The Three-Nine Line as well as an article I wrote for Smithsonian's Air & Space magazine. You'll find a link to the article below. I genuinely enjoyed Vietnam. Extremely friendly people, great food, beautiful scenery and fascinating history. It was especially interesting seeing how war is interpreted from the other side of the fence. The North Vietnamese consider themselves victors, and rightfully so, but there's no animosity toward Americans that I could discern. The fact that it's a very young country--more than half of the Vietnamese alive today were not yet born when the war ended in 1973--may have something to do with it.

Best,

David
