Episode 3 Recap

Goat Score for Week 3

Episode Three

I missed episode two. How did I do that? They played two on the first night. I wasn't paying attention. I figured it was one episode per week. My bad. I get a dumbass award.

I am here, though for episode three which is occurring on week two. Wonderful episode three. Another chapter in the epic tale of the Fabulous Beekman Boys. Let's get into it. Let's get into it right away. As with my last recap, I'll be using a scale of one to five goats to indicate...

Gabby's Lego Episode 2

10 year Gabby is a fan of The Fabulous Beekman Boys.  She's making Lego sculptures of her favorite scenes.  If you can top this cuteness, we dare you to try

The Wedding Party

The bride says:

It's hard to pick just one moment in an entire day of amazement; so I'll choose two.  When I was about to get ready with my dress and make-up, Josh knocked on the door to see if I had everything I needed; I think I told him "something to drink and John needs his suit, could you tell him to start getting ready?", it was about an hour before the ceremony.  Josh grabs John's suit and tie and I have full confidence he'll get the ball rolling.  Five minutes pass and  Josh re-enters...

Lego Ego

Had it not been for Lego, Lincoln Logs and Tinker Toys, there may have never been a Beekman 1802.  These toys inspired an attention to detail and construction that is evident in how we approach life and design on the farm.  This is part of the reason we were thrilled when the Harvest Festival episode of The Fabulous Beekman Boys inspired a Lego creation.

Kim Powell who manages the Green Savings Co-op in Florida says of her daughter's creation:

You'll notice that Josh even has his cup, beard...

The Table

Strong and Sturdy

Strong and Sturdy

Before The Beekman was lovingly restored, it had been abandoned, left to weather the brutal elements atop the hill it has graced for more than two centuries.

The aging structure, with its grand rooms and firm place in the annals of the local lore, was far too much of a temptation for teenagers and vagabonds looking for a place to call their own.   The walls were pocked with graffiti and the hallways littered with remnants of other people's lives.

One day, earlier this year...

Mary and Peonies

Mary Beekman is a four-year-old ghost who resides in The Beekman Mansion, and considers Brent and Josh her "imaginary friends." Follow Mary Beekman's Diary each week to learn what it's like to be a young child in early 19th century America

Mother dug a piece of some peony root from Nell's Mother's garden last year. Nell's mother told her the root must have at least three "eyes".  These eyes had to be placed in the soil pointing up.  I do not understand why, because they were all covered with

Raise Your Glasses, Deux

Warning: take small sips

To enhance your viewing pleasure and to make each and every episode of The Fabulous Beekman Boys as fabulous as possible, we're going to encourage the playing of a nice parlor game.

Each week, we'll post a new Beekman 1802 elixir recipe for you to use and give you a new reason to "raise your glass"—to your mouth that is.

This week the beverage of choice is michelada (click here for the recipe).

Raise your glass every time Josh says "birthday".

The Longest Day

Driving back to the farm, I marveled that there was still enough light at 9:30pm to see goats in the pasture.  It reminded briefly of the long summer evenings we spent in my grandparents'  backyard playing with the gang of local kids.  How thrilled must the adults have been to have us out of the house for so much of the evening.

As pleasant at the thought was, it was fleeting.  Almost immediately, I began thinking how dreadful that the days were going to start getting shorter just as summer...

A Father's Lessons to his Daughter

Noelle Weaver was born and raised in Goshen, Indiana amidst corn and cow fields. She now lives amidst the exploding artisanal food scene in the urban area of Brooklyn, New York. A marketing consultant by day, during nights and weekends she pursues the life of an incidental foodie and cook exploring all the various flavors and tastes that cultures both old and new have taught us about who we are, how we live and the importance of history and ritual that are handed down through the foods we...

Michelada

Michelada is a Mexican cocktail based on beer.  One of the things that make beer so good on a hot day is that bitter flavors quench thirst so well. And by adding spices that slightly raise body temperature you get the impression of even greater cooling. There is also less temptation to drink it too fast, as there sometimes is with sweet drinks. This drink is one of my summer favorites.

1.

Rub the rim of a large glass with lime and then invert it in a plate of kosher salt, just as you would...
