To my three blog viewers down in New Orleans… Good luck…

Click the image to for an update on Isaac

Consistently over the course of the week I get three blog views from New Orleans, not really unusually as I get blog views from all over the country including one from Mongolia. However New Orleans, the state of Louisiana, Alabama, a little bit of Florida and Mississippi are having a wild and woolly time as Isaac slowly unwinds its Hurricane strength on top of them. Good luck… Stay sharp and I hope this wont be a repeat of Katrina, no matter how ominous it seems to have this Hurricane park on top of you right on the last storms anniversary.

There is not much else I can say, the storm is going to be slow-moving and that is what will cause the damage as it grinds its way inland. Good luck, listen to local advisories and use your head. And in case my three blog views from New Orleans read this; here are some tips for Hurricane Home Protection and Wind & Water Protection Here.

Happy Birthday Mr Jack Kirby and Thank you!

The unsung hero of the Marvel revolution without which I doubt Stan would have been Da Man and many of today’s Comic Book Icon’s would not exist. Jack Kirby’s full contribution to comic book lore will forever be shrouded in mystery, allegations and a mishandled legacy. In the end it is the fan’s who know and value Mr Jack Kirby for everything he did… Thank you Sir for inspiring us all and Happy Birthday. To learn more about the genius of Jack Kirby please visit the Kirby Museum Blog Here.

RIP Neil Armstrong – The Right Stuff 1930 – 2012

Apollo 11 Mission Commander Neil Armstrong

Apollo 11 Mission Commander Neil Armstrong

A pioneer died today, a man who understood like many that to we need to take risks and accepted those risks to touch the stars. Today Neil Armstrong (born 1930 – died 2012) aged 82, the first man to step foot on the Moon on July 20, 1969 becoming  hero to millions to people on Earth and speaking the immortal words, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind” he captivated and inspired millions… He pushed a frontier something we must keep doing, to become something greater than ourselves, to learn, to expand to touch the stars… Thank Mr Armstrong your legacy will live on.

Look out here come the Monsters under the Bed… In your pocket?

No Name scupltYes, that is one inch miniature sculpt of a No Name, one of the Monster under the Bed and lowest of low. I’m just exploring and look at a new dimension to the Teddy Bear Tale universe that might just start in your pocket; more as this develops.

Fire for your imagination ‘When a Knight won his Spurs’ the song that started it all…

St George and the DragonWhen I was kid going through Primary School we used to have Assemblies three times a week where we would all get together listen to school announcements and a story, and then sing songs from our little blue hymn books. In this little book was one particular song that fired my imagination every time we sang it, which sadly wasn’t that often. It was called When a Knight won his Spurs, a folk song by Jan Struther written in 1931. Although those Assemblies have long since stopped I still find myself singing this song from time to time and taking inspiration from it.

I think I can safely say if I never sang or heard this song, The Wonder Tales, Tristan with all his adventures and all my other stories would never of taken flight; this is the power this tune has over me. Enjoy the song video by Sam Miller, it is one of the best versions of the song I’ve heard for sometime, you can follow the lyrics below…

When a knight won his spurs, in the stories of old,

He was gentle and brave, he was gallant and bold

With a shield on his arm and a lance in his hand,

For God and for valour he rode through the land.

No charger have I, and no sword by my side,

Yet still to adventure and battle I ride,

Though back into storyland giants have fled,

And the knights are no more and the dragons are dead.

Let faith be my shield and let joy be my steed

‘Gainst the dragons of anger, the ogres of greed;

And let me set free with the sword of my youth,

From the castle of darkness, the power of the truth.

Be gentle with the Earth now ;)

The Campaign Against Undocumented Heroes warns of ‘illegal’ Superheroes in your Neighborhood

Illegal SuperheroesThis is a unique view of a subject that is close to my heart…. Immigration… Artist Neil Riva put together a series of slideshows featuring the undocumented Crime-fighters rampant in the DC & Marvel universes and it is quite a list using the art of Jack Kirby, Alex Ross, Jae Lee and John Byrne.  It makes you wonder if there is a special Meta-human division of USCIS and if the rules for immigrating from say… Mars is less complicated than immigrating from say… the United Kingdom. Perhaps there is a special heroic spandex sub-section rules? To view the entire gallery at the illegal Super heroes Division of the USCIS  please click here. I have to say this is an interesting and topical way to reboot the immigration debate.

The Daughter of Frost enters it’s last 48 hours on Kickstarter go take a look!

The Daughter of Frost

A illustrated scene from The Daughter of Frost – Aneira dances to Peter’s Pipes, as the Fairy of Spring watches over her child from the woods. Art by Terra Bidlespacher; story by Nick Davis

Just under a month ago I started the Kickstarter campaign for The Daughter of Frost, a fairy tale I wrote for my Daughter because she still believes in them. The idea of the Kickstarter was to raise enough money to fund an illustrated story version of The Daughter of Frost as a gift to my Daughter and to everyone who believes in the magic of Once Upon a Time…  To help my bring this tale tall to life  I recruited a new Artist called Terra Bidlespacher who does amazing whimsical illustrations, and over the last few weeks she has been sending me illustrations for The Daughter of the Frost, each one even more magical than that last. One of which you can see above, a scene from the story of Aneira dancing to Peter’s Pipes as the Fairy of Spring watches over her child from the woods.

If you believe in Fairy Tales like my Daughter and enjoy the magic of Once Upon a Times please check out The Daughter of Frost over on Kickstarter here and please back this tale of innocence.
