How I Explain The Meaning of Equality And Why It Is Important To Our Freedom
Why is Equality Important?Without true equality here in the land of the free, we can never claim to be truly free. People after all are people and nothing more than miss-perceived thoughts are standing in the way of real freedom. After all what is the biggest issue for Equality here in the USA right now? Same-Sex Marriage, now while I reckon my words do not carry a great weight, there are times I have to use them for even a pebble can become a wave. So here is my pebble, after the jump.
The Pebble
A couple of years ago I worked for a sportswear company that was Greek owned, not a bad thing, but important to my story below. The Nephew of the owner who was working their between colleges asked me a question.
“Why do you have the Equality sign on the back of your Jeep?”
“It represents what I believe, that we all need to be equal to be free,” I answered.
“Why?” he countered, quite taking me by surprise.
“It is like this,” I said, “Imagine you were not allowed to marry in the USA because you are Greek.”
“That would not happen, I’m straight therefore I can marry,” was his reply.
I smile, “Yes, your right, but imagine for one second that you could not marry because of your genes, for being Greek. After all we are born with the natural disposition of being gay or not, much in the same way you are born with Greek genes – after no matter what some say you don’t catch gay. However, you cannot change your genes, you may hide it for a while, but in the end you have Greek heritage, in the same way a Gay man or woman love others of their sex – it is inescapable. Which means because of your genes you are denied the simple pleasure of not being able to marry the one you love, and to not have the same rights that others have by accident of birth. Is that fair?”
“I hadn’t thought of it that way,” he said looking thoughtful.
“Not many do… And that is why I believe in Equality, we cannot be free if we deny others the rights we enjoy… Certain inalienable rights is a very powerful message and is something to believe that all-men… All humankind are born equal.” I said smiling, “But it is up to you to figure out what you believe and deciding for yourself, that is our truest and greatest freedom.”
Gods… I so can turn a Kirk speech when I wish it. So ended my lesson, be gentle with the world now.

Is this true? Live Action Mobile Suit Gundam Adaptation in the works?
Gundam Live Action Possible Movie Still
According to the website KDrama Star a live action adaptation of Mobile Suit Gundam is in pre-production. Being a huge fan of Gundam and other Mecha shows this is great news, and above is a supposed still from the movie itself.
The still shows Gundam’s from the very grounded 08th MS Team which would be a perfect fit for a movie adaptation with a nice mix of action and anime melodrama without losing the regular movie goer. Now while I hope this news is true, it is all rumor at the moment. Maybe if the Live Action Patlabor movie is a success it will open the door to more live action mecha movies.

The LeHigh Valley Fan Fest the makings of a good show, just not there yet…
Tristan the Teddy Bear arrives at the Lehigh Valley Fan Fest
Today Tristan and I went all the way to Allentown PA to show our wares at the Lehigh Valley Fan Fest (LVFF) at the Allentown Brewhouse, on paper this had the makings of a great show it was just let down by one small (but important) factor which I will get to at the end of my report here.
All setup and ready to go
How did it go?
The drive up was long, uneventful, pretty dull apart from the one incident when a Truck almost swiped us off the road. I’ve not driven around this part of Pennsylvania for a long time and it still looks like they are doing the same construction work I witnessed 15 years ago. It is true what they say PA roads are just one big pothole
The Lehigh Valley Fan Fest was interesting, the location was unusually but a well-known building that was is the Brewhouse that had multiple floors. We were located on the third floor above the Cosplay/Gaming area with the only real access an elevator (bit of a problem that).
Foot traffic in the Artist/Guest/Vendor area was slow, intermittent and sometimes non-existent which surprised us all. The day instead kinda dragged for us all, these things happen at shows and its the nature of these things.

Networking and Spooky Abigail
Because LVFF was slow I got to do something I normally don’t have a lot of time for, which is networking. Most shows I am attached to my table, this time around I got to walk around a bit. Met Lita (Amy Dumas) who is really tiny and bumped into Theodus Crane who really is quite a large chap.
Had a long talk with Keir Lyles (closet Brony), an artist friend of mine who is part of Apocrypha Comics Studio about being a possible relief artist to help Dan Nokes with art duties in the second upcoming Cuddly Defenders book. I like Keir’s style and I think he will be a great addition to the Teddy Bear Tales, but more of that as I gather details of this new project.
The Spooky Abigail Comic Book
I also had a long talk with Paul Micheal’s owner of PRM comics about Spooky Abigail, the direction of the book and some ideas on how to promote it. Plus I have received a couple of copies of the Spooky Abigail Limited Edition book to sell at my next event. So, if you want a copy of what is a very good little all-ages book drop me a line.
Tristan meets the LVFF Cosplayers
Signing Off
While this was not one of my more successful shows, I got a few important things done and had an enjoyable day, and Tristan, Jean and I finished it at White Castle… Had worse times…
Tristan Goes to White Castle
So What Happened with LVFF?
Going to keep this simple. LVFF was the first show and with many first show they always have teething trouble. While on paper the show has huge potential, a recognized venue, a good position in Central PA, Guests that can bring in the crowds, Vendors and Indie Creators within range to give the show good color.
What was lacking this first time out of the gate was local promotion and signage, with only a small poster on the door, no signs for the event around the area made it hard to locate if you didn’t know where the Brewhouse was. This is something the Promoters need to pick up on when they take another swing at the LVFF.
