Spotlight: The Columbine Bride in The 12 Brides of Summer #4
by Davalynn Spencer
Lucy Powell is on a path not of her choosing: widowhood. But she’s determined she doesn’t need anyone’s help to get her neglected ranch back in order and running right—especially the neighboring rancher who keeps showing up at the end of her shotgun. Buck Reiter can’t leave Lucy and her two young’uns alone. It’s just not in him to sit by and watch while someone struggles. But he ends up as the struggler, searching for a way to let Lucy know there’s a...

August Wrap-Up
Our church continues its study of 1st Corinthians. What a rich time this has been.
For August, my morning Bible reading included (in part or in full) the books of Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Lamentations.

I finished reading three books in the month of August, and the last one caused me to finish my goal of 50 books read in 2015. Yea!! My favorite of my August reads was easy to pick.
As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride
Absolutely FABULOUS...

Common Grace Coming to Fruition
Our church is working its way through the book of 1st Corinthians at present, and this past Sunday the sermon was focused on spiritual gifts. Spiritual gifts, in general, are capacities and abilities apportioned and empowered by God in a Christian’s life for the common good.
But the pastor said something else that has stuck with me since. He mentioned that as part of common grace (according to Grudem’s Systematic Theology, common grace is the grace of God by which He gives people innumerable...

Gasp! Looking forward to Math!
I know this is almost impossible to believe (since I moaned about it in at least one earlier post), but as of today, I am feelingjust a little excited about my math class this term. This is not a for-college-creditclass. This is a class I must pass toprepareme for my college credit class. (If all goes well, to be taken next term.)
Anyway, after church today, I watched a series of short videos about this college math prep class and gained a better understanding of how it works. It is a new typ...

Getting Older Can Be Funny
Regular readers of this blog (and on Facebook) know that Jerry and I enjoy watching the birds that populate our backyard and the common area between us and our neighbors. Because of the open plan for our little subdivision, we have clear views of a number of our neighbors’ back yards too.
So the other day, Jerry is looking out the dining room window and he says, “Look how that gray cat is sitting on the rolled up hose at ***’s house.”
I look, and sure enough. There is a gray cat sitting atop...

Going to Sleep with Your Audiobook
I have gotten into the bad habit of falling to sleep at night with the TV on (Turner Classic Movies). The experts say we shouldn’t even have TVs in our bedrooms, that the light from the TV (and iPads andlaptops) before bed contributes to our insomnia issues.
So I am trying to return to a dark bedroom. Yes, I still read on my Kindle Paperwhite, usually for five to fifteen minutes until I’m sleepy, but the Paperwhite isnot backlit. It’s like reading any printed book with a book light, which is...
