Review: Puzzling Cats Art and Activity Book

Puzzling-Cats

The Metropolitan Museum of Art introduces Puzzling Cats, a fun puzzle book for cat lovers. Aimed at children ages 3-6, the pictures in this book feature works from the museum from various styles, time periods and cultures. Each piece is accompanied by a brief text explaining the painting, and each piece is also a a puzzle on board stock.

The book is beautifully designed. I don’t have kids, so I don’t know whether kids as young as 3-6 years old could really appreciate the art, but it seems t...

Giveaway: Enter to Win a NVR Miss Litterbox

high-sided-litter-box

The search for the perfect litter box can be frustrating for many cat guardians, especially those of us, like yours truly, who live with a vertical pee-er (her name starts with the letter “R”). My search ended when I discovered the NVR Miss Litter Box shown above at a cat show several years ago.

For details on why I love this box so much, please read my full review of the NVR Miss Litterbox. I haven’t found anything that’s as good as this box (other than ugly homemade versions), and I went t...

5 Tips to Humanely Keep Cats out of Your Yard

stray-cat

As cat lovers, we have a soft spot in our hearts for all cats, not just our own. So why on earth would you ever want or need to keep stray or feral cats out of your yard? Roaming cats use your yard as a litter box, chase birds away from your birdfeeders, may spray to mark territory and may even get into fights in your yard. But most importantly, outdoor roaming cats can affect your own indoor cat’s well-being.

How do roaming outdoor cats affect your indoor cats?

Cats are territorial animals,...

Save $30 on NatureSPA Pet Fountain with UV Sterilization

NatureSpa cover

Fountains are a great way to encourage cats to drink more water. Water is critical to keeping your cat healthy. Even though cats get moisture from a raw or canned diet, they should still have plenty of fresh water available at all times. Cats as a species don’t have a high thirst drive, and this can lead to chronic low-level dehydration if a cat is fed mostly dry food, which in turn, can lead to urinary tract and kidney problems.

A fountain is a great way to encourage cats to drink more wate...

Why You Should Weigh Your Cat Regularly

weigh-your-cat

Your cat’s weight can be a good indicator of her health – but only if you keep track of it. Gradual weight loss or gain can be difficult to recognize in cats. Consider that the average cat weighs 10 pounds. Weight loss of only 6% of a cat’s body weight is considered a clinical sign – that’s less than ten ounces. Depending on the size of your cat, visible changes to her weight may be too subtle to notice without actually weighing her.

Dr. Andrea Tasi, a homeopathic vet and owner of Just Cats...

Happy Mother’s Day

Happy Mother’s Day to All the Moms of Human and Furry Children!

Mother’s Day is a bit of a bittersweet holiday for me. My mother passed away in 1994, but even after all these years, I still feel a pang when I see Mother’s Day cards appear in stores.

I owe many things to my mom, but the two most important ones are my love of cats, and my love of books. Even though we didn’t have cats when I was growing up, my mom was a cat lover. The photo below shows her with Feebee, my first cat. I have a l...

Gary, an eight-week old kitten from Manchester, England, may be the new feline internet star. The kitten was born with markings that make him look like he has permanently raised eyebrows. Images of the cute little kitten went viral, and Gary now has his own Facebook page. He’s still got a way to go before he gives Grumpy Cat a run for her money, but you never know! Review and Giveaway: Letters from Cats

Letters-from-Cats

I know we all wonder from time to time what our cats are thinking. No matter how well-versed we are in feline body language and no matter how talkative they may be, there always seems to be a part of them that they keep to themselves. In Letters from Cats: Hilarious and Heartfelt Notes, Stacey Ritz imagines what cats might tell us if they were to write us letters.

The letters in this book are at times charmingly funny, at other times heartbreakingly sad. From “Yes, I ate that,” in which a ca...
