Feeding Tubes Save Lives

feeding tubes

There is nothing more frustrating, and worrisome, than a sick cat who won’t eat. Cats may refuse to eat for many reasons. They may be bored with the same old food, or they may be stressed about something. Most often, though, inappetence and anorexia will be caused by an illness, either because the cat feels nauseated or can’t smell her food. A cat who doesn’t eat for more than 48 hours is at risk for developing hepatic lipidosis, also known as fatty liver disease, which can be fatal if left...

BlogPaws 2015: Cat Ladies Descend on Music City

BlogPaws-2015

I spent last weekend with 500 of my fellow pet bloggers at our annual gathering in Nashville, TN. This was my fourth BlogPaws conference, and it just keeps on getting bigger and better each year. And while the conference is still pretty “dog-heavy,” the contingent of cat ladies (and a few gents) is growing each year, thanks, in no small part, to the amazing Kate Benjamin of Hauspanther, who once again created the ultimate cat lover’s experience in the Cat Lounge.

Mews and Nips: Behold the World’s Tallest Cat Tree

worlds-tallest-cat-tree

Our friends at Pet Tree Houses just set a Guinness World Record for building the world’s tallest cat tree. The tree measures 16’ 10” to the highest platform and over 20’ tall including the leaves! Pet Tree Houses was commissioned by a family in West Linn, Oregon to design a tree for their four rescue cats to safely climb and descend their two story catmosphere. Ruby and Allegra love our Seedling Tree House from Pet Tree Houses, but I suspect that Ruby will start campaigning for a catmosphere...

Review: Merrick Limited Ingredient Diet

Merrick_limited-ingredient

I recently reviewed Merrick’s Purrfect Bistro line, and mentioned at the end of that review that I was excited about their brand new Limited Ingredient Diet line, which wasn’t available yet at the time. Why was I so excited about it? Because it is made by a company who, in my opinion, does almost everything right when it comes to pet food sourcing and manufacturing, with one exception: the Purrfect Bistro line contains carrageenan. The new Limited Ingredient line does not.

Sourced and manufa...

The Assisi Loop: Effective Pain Relief for Cats – Enter to Win

Assisi_Loop_Lil_BUB

Cats are masters at hiding pain. By the time a cat guardian recognizes that a cat is painful, chronic pain may already have a considerable impact on the cat’s quality of life. This can be especially true when it comes to arthritis, a degenerative joint disease that affects as many as 3 in 10 cats. Only 7% of cats with arthritis receive treatment for this often debilitating condition..

While there are conventional pain medications that can help control feline pain, most come with considerable...
