Cozy Cat Beds for Cats Who Are Cavers

cat-bed

Do your cats like to snuggle under blankets or comforters? Do they like to sleep partially covered? Jackson Galaxy calls these cats “cavers*.” These are the cats who will often find a space in a closet or under the bed, and you may not see them out and about as much as other cats. It’s important to provide alternate, safe spaces for these kitties so they can cave in comfort.

We have two cat beds for you that will make your caving kitties purr!

PawPack Subscription Box Review

PawPack-subscription

Subscription services for pets are becoming more and more popular. The concept is simple: for a monthly fee, you receive a box a month filled with treats and toys. The contents of the box are picked for you, so each month brings new surprises for you and your feline family members. Allegra and Ruby are completely on board with this idea: after all, what could be better than receiving a box of treats and toys every single month! They were super excited when the teal box from PawPack showed up...

How to Recognize and Treat Arthritis in Your Cat

feline-arthritis

Arthritis, a condition that affects as many as 1 in 3 adults, also affects cats. Feline arthritis is a degenerative joint disease. The cartilage within the joint is worn down, leading to inflammation, pain and decreased quality of life. As the condition progresses, the friction can wear down to the point where it damages the bones themselves. This kind of arthritis is most common and causes the most pain in the weight-bearing joints like the shoulders, hips, elbows, knees, and ankles.

Conscious Cat Sunday: Don’t Be so Hard on Yourself

Conscious_Cat_Sunday_tortoiseshell_cat

Are you your own worst critic? Do you feel like nothing you do could ever be good enough? We probably all do this at one time or another, but if you are constantly judging yourself for not being perfect, it may be time to take a good look at your internal self talk and make a different choice.

Be mindful of your inner voice

Chances are, putting yourself down has become an ingrained habit. Be especially wary of “all or nothing” thinking. One negative experience does not make you a failure. Be...

Mews and Nips: Plans to Open A Cat Cinema in London

cat-cafe-cinema

Cat cafés have become incredibly popular over the last few years and are popping up around the world. But how about a cat cinema? A London couple is raising funds to open Great Kitten, a place where guests can enjoy a movie while cuddling up with a cat. They plan to adopt 10 homeless cats who are known to enjoy the presence of humans and who will be free to roam around the cinema. They also plan to raise awareness of cat welfare and will also work with charities to provide “cat therapy” for...

Fit Cat: Tips and Tricks to Give Your Pet a Longer, Healthier and Happier Life

Fit_cat

There are a lot of great cat care books on the market. Some of my favorites approach cat care from a holistic standpoint. Classics like Elizabeth Hodgkins, DVM’s Your Cat: Simple New Secrets to a Longer, Stronger Life, The Complete Guide to Holistic Cat Care by Celeste Yarnall and Jean Hofve, DVM, and Anitra Frazier’s The Natural Cat: The Comprehensive Guide to Optimum Care are my “go to” books when people ask me for recommendations. But even though these books define for me what a good cat...

What Is Your Cat’s Odor Trying to Tell You?

cat-odor

Cats are essentially self-cleaning. They are fastidious groomers, and can usually take care of keeping themselves clean without human intervention. Their sandpaper tongue is perfectly equipped to take care of their cleaning and grooming needs. For all of these reasons, it’s rare that a healthy cat emits a bad smell. If you notice a bad odor on your cat, it may be an indicator of an illness.

In a recent article for Answers.com, I explained what might be causing your cat to smell bad, and why...

Human Topical Pain Medication Fatal to Cats

topical-pain-medication-fatal-to-cats

The FDA is alerting pet owners, veterinarians, health care providers and pharmacists that pets are at risk of illness and death when exposed to topical pain medications containing the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) flurbiprofen. People using these medications should use care when applying them in a household with pets, as even very small amounts could be dangerous to these animals.

Sadly, the FDA received reports of cats in two households that became ill or died after their owne...
