a poem for whenever
somewhere someone is listening to music
somewhere someone is reading a book
i like to eat pizzas, bagels, sandwiches
and other european-influenced foods
as well as foods from other parts of the world
and a fire is to now as a spark is to always
i get real happy and break my hands
i get real happy and break my feet
i get real happy and crawl and break my knees
the happiest i have ever been
the happiest you have ever been
and where we are whenever
and who we are whenever
somewhere someone is reading a book
i like to eat pizzas, bagels, sandwiches
and other european-influenced foods
as well as foods from other parts of the world
and a fire is to now as a spark is to always
i get real happy and break my hands
i get real happy and break my feet
i get real happy and crawl and break my knees
the happiest i have ever been
the happiest you have ever been
and where we are whenever
and who we are whenever

colorado front range people / southern wyoming people (if you exist)

i am reading this thursday, november 17th, at csu's art museum at 7:30 pm.
i will be reading 4 poems (one is long) from a manuscript that i'm working on that doesn't have a title yet.
i'm reading with my good friends adam lozeau and mark clements. then we will drink and eat cake.
here is a flyer to make this seem more official.
it's my mfa reading, which i'm calling my "$60,000 reading." i might take the liberty of sacrificing a cat during my reading.

ny tyrant
the newest edition of the new york tyrant, featuring an essay of mine, is now available for preorder. here is where to order.
it also features writing by Edmund White, Scott McClanahan, Chiara Barzini, Ken Sparling, Susan Froderberg, Jason Schwartz, Evelyn Hampton, Daniel Long, and many others
my essay is called FROM THE ASHES OF MY GUT THE MEGACHEIRA SCUTTLES FORTH.
it starts as a consideration of the jesus jones song "right here, right now" and then spirals outward into memory, faith, and wikipedia. it's the first essay in a series of three (the next two haven't been written yet). the second essay will be about brian hitler as a member of the human family and will probably chase its tail around existence for a while or until i've reached a point of trueness or shattered hilarity. i haven't decided what the third essay will be about yet. maybe raptor jesus. idk.
anyway, i guess this issue of the ny trant was printed in smaller numbers, so get at it before it dies.

nim chimpsky: live in your hands

that's elaine modeling the chapbook because people like animals + literature, i think. which, i mean, obviously, because there's a chimpanzee on the cover too. and you can't see it, but on the back cover there's a dolphin jumping through a hoop of fire, which is a deleted scene from the upcoming movie "the cove 2" which elaine wrote and directed and also stars in as the evil killer of dolphins. ~SPOILER ALERT~ all the dolphins die in the end and elaine gets super fat.
if you want a copy they are $2 (to cover the cost of printing and part of the cost of shipping). we will not be making money off these chapbooks, so don't get all like meh about it.
here is the link to paypal $2.
the first round will be sent out tomorrow.
and here is a link that should explain elaine's pink bandana.

nim chimpsky for real
THIS SATURDAY at 8:30 pm will be the release party and reading for our chapbook NIM CHIMPSKY: LIVE AT THE GERMAN BORDELLO. it was originally supposed to be last week, but many friends had last minute emergencies to attend to and we like our friends so it will be this week instead.
we will ustream the event here: http://www.ustream.tv/channel/daniel-bailey
the stream will start somewhere around 9 probably. whenever the readings start. follow me on twitter and i'll try to give a more accurate idea that night.
the stream will continue after elizabeth and i have both read as others will be reading and basically it's just going to be a party. so let's have fun.
now, i know game 3 of the world series is that night, but i have to say, who gives a shit? it's baseball. following the game on twitter is just as exciting as actually watching it. and if you really need to see what happened you can just watch a recap of the game on sportscenter later in the evening or the next day. baseball has about 5 plays worth seeing the entire game, and that's only if the teams score at least 5 times. if there's a brawl in game 3, i'm sorry we're making you have to miss that. also, no one's winning the world series that night. it's game 3. i'm sure elizabeth will disagree with everything i've just said. she actually likes baseball. whereas i'm finally starting to feel rage at this nba lockout (and the season wouldn't have even started!).
though here's something neat: kevin durant has been declared the lockout mvp.

A DOZEN THINGS YOU PROBABLY don't know about Kevin Durant:
He has never been in love.
He has a music production studio in his house.
He has been known to rap.
His back tattoo took eight hours.
It isn't finished.
His inner voice is often "just a buzzing noise."
He used to sleep in church.
He has no regrets (not even missing the prom).
