“Transracial” is a real word, but it was stolen from transracial adoptees. That is, People of Color who were adopted made this term to describe their struggles of being raised by white people who couldn’t understand their unique challenges…and then some incredibly insecure, narcissistic white people appropriated the term for their own use.

Hello, I have a question about character. My novel has 5 'main' characters but I'm worried that one of them is not necessary. So basically I'm struggling to identify if one of my characters is a dead weight. Could you please offer some advice on how to ch

Ask yourself this question: If I delete this character from the story, how much does the main plot change?

If not much changes (the plot is the same, the characters make the same decisions, character development for other characters is the same or very similar, etc.), then this character is either not worked into the plot enough or not necessary. Main characters should impact the plot in some way, whether directly or indirectly.

If only subplots are affected, then this character is a minor char...

so true. my 10yo cat’s name is boo but i rarely call her that. it’s usually something like “my munchkin face” or “you precious little muffin top” or if i’m being a bit more minimal it might be “schmoopers” or “cranky pants”
