Harrow County Headed to Syfy
As reported by Deadline:
Syfy has put in development Harrow County, a drama adaptation of the new Dark Horse comic written by Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun) and illustrated by Tyler Crook (Bad Blood).
Harrow County was among the first titles identified under Universal Cable Prods.’ first-look deal with Dark Horse Entertainment announced in July. The project has now been set up at Syfy with Becky Kirsch tapped to write the adaptation.
Harrow County centers on Emmy who has always known that the deep, dark woods surrounding her home crawled with ghosts, goblins, and the restless dead. On the eve of her 18th birthday, she learns that she is connected to these creatures and to the land itself in a way she never imagined, for she is the reincarnation of a powerful witch who was put to death on the very day Emmy was born. For this reason, the townsfolk mean to kill her too. In order to survive, Emmy must embrace the unusual powers at her command.
Kirsch has emerged as one of Syfy’s go-to writers. She worked on the network’s Dominion and Twelve Monkeys before being drafted for Harrow County. She is repped by ICM Partners and manager Carel Cutler.

2016 Holiday Shopping Guide

Want some ideas for great gifts for the comic book lover in your life? Well, look no further! I’ve compiled a handy shopping guide to help you select the gifts your friends and family (or even you) will love!
If you have a local comic book store, I wholeheartedly suggest going there first for any of these books. If they don’t have something on the shelf, they can order it in for you. You might even find some other great ideas while shopping! If, however, you don’t have a comic book shop or the shop can’t seem to get the books in, Amazon has them in stock. I’ve included the links you’ll need. If you prefer to give digital gifts, I’ve provided links to ComiXology as well!
With that said, on to the suggestions!
Let’s say you know someone who loves spooky stories, creepy fairy tales, and/or movies like Pan’s Labyrinth. Well, they would probably love HARROW COUNTY Volume 1, which hits the shelves in December! You can pre-order it now to make sure you get your hands on it as soon as it comes out!

If you know someone who loves dark horror stories or edgy crime fiction like True Detective, you should introduce them to the twisted supernatural horror of THE EMPTY MAN!

If they like their horror with a heavy does of action and military gun play, they would likely be delighted with HELLBREAK, which just came out in trade paperback!

Blood Feud #1 – 10/14/2015
Tomorrow, the vampires run wild in the Ozarks!
BLOOD FEUD #1 (by Drew Moss, Nick Filardi, and some hick named Cullen Bunn) hits the stands this Wednesday! Hopefully, you pre-ordered it. Even if you didn’t, I hope you’ll give the book a chance! It’s a backwoods horror yarn with a lot of humor, heart, and spiders.
Here’s what a few people are saying about it:
This book is filled with twists at every corner, and some you even see coming yet a strong series that can easily be a TV show. The story by Cullen Bunn is departures from everything we have seem from him before, which […] shows his skills as writer who can tell superb stories no matter the genre. The art by Drew Moss and Nick Filardi is exceptional from their character designs to the intricate settings. Overall, a great entry into the genre, which looks to ramp up the action in future issues. Blood Feud #1 took me by surprise, and (as you can probably tell) I really enjoyed the comic; I’ll be adding this to my ever-growing pull list when I next go to my Local Comic Shop. Hopefully you’ll do the same. (Graphic Policy) Read Full Review
This issue was actually a pretty good build up issue. It felt like the start of a horror movie, it had everything you want from horror. I really enjoyed it. The art is great and for the first time in a long while all the characters were likable. It’s gonna be sad when we start to lose them one by one. If I’m being honest I have to say it felt a little like the walking dead. Almost like a prequel until the vampires. (Comic Crusaders) Read Full Review
And here’s a preview of the first few pages!

A Vampire Yarn… With Spiders
In October–just in time for Halloween–Oni Press will be releasing the first issue of my new horror/comedy series, Blood Feud. This is a story I’m pretty excited about. The lead hero, R.F. Coven, is modeled after my dad (who, to his family, was always Called R.F.). Some of the events that take place in the series are inspired by “real world” events my dad told me all about. And the setting–Spider Creek–is inspired by the town I lived in when I first set foot in Missouri.
And, yeah, there’s a lot of spiders.
When I first moved to the Ozarks (many, many blood moons ago), I was shocked to see thousands of tarantulas—Texas Browns—moving across the dirt roads as part of their annual migration. Seeing that many tarantulas in one place… and living among “country folk” for so long… and a “healthy” love of horror flicks… inspired this book.
Blood Feud is the story of a backwoods feud taken to a dark extreme. Imagine the Hatfields and McCoys… if the Hatfields were demon-worshipping sorcerers. That sums up the Whatley and Stubbs families. They’ve been at each other’s throats for as long as anyone in Spider Creek, Missouri, can remember. Now, though, the Whatleys have unleashed something terrible into the darkest hollows—something that will consume the Stubbs… and everyone else. R.F. Coven and a couple of poker buddies are the only Ozarks “good ol’ boys” standing in the way of ultimate evil.
I’m creating this book with Drew Moss (who worked with me on Terrible Lizard) and Nick Filardi (who worked with me on Helheim). I think it’s a book that’s scary and funny and even a little heartbreaking at times. It’s got vicious vampires (kinda), undead frogs, black magic, and—yes—lots and lots of tarantulas.
But Blood Feud needs your help! The shelves are packed with great comics, and retailers simply can’t order everything that’s coming out. The best way to make sure you get a chance to read the book is to contact your local comic book shop and pre-order the title! Here’s the order information:
BLOOD FEUD #1
Oni Press
Release Date: 10/7/2015
Order Code: AUG151627
Here’s a handy order form! Print this bad boy out and take it to your shop!
But make it quick! The Final Order Cutoff is fast approaching!
Every issue shows its “popcorn and Budweiser” horror movie influences with homages to movies like Friday the 13th, Evil Dead, and Fright Night, among others. If you liked The Sixth Gun, Helheim, or (another backwoods horror yarn of mine) Harrow County, I think they’ll get a kick out of this.
And here… in case you need to hide from bloodsucking beasts in your neck of the woods… is a Blood Feud vampire mask. Cut it out and wear it with pride (but maybe not into your comic shop… because that’s a good way to get shot in a state with lenient gun laws).
Thanks so much!

The Sixth Gun RPG Coming from Pinnacle Games
From the official press release:
Oni Press announces a partnership with Pinnacle Entertainment Group, creators of the award-winning, best-selling Savage Worlds roleplaying game system. The companies are developing a licensed tabletop RPG based on the critically acclaimed ongoing series The Sixth Gun, by writer Cullen Bunn, artist Brian Hurtt, and colorist Bill Crabtree.
“Anyone who knows me, knows that I’ve loved roleplaying games since I was in second grade,” said Cullen Bunn, writer for The Sixth Gun. “Even though I don’t play nearly as much as I did during my heyday, I still collect games and roll dice with friends when I get the chance. I always felt there was a natural chemistry between comics and gaming, and I’m absolutely thrilled to see The Sixth Gun being developed by Pinnacle for roleplayers everywhere! I think this is a game that will appeal to a lot of people on a lot of levels. It has fantasy, horror, action, and—of course—gunslingers a-plenty. We’ve gone to great lengths to develop an exciting world for the comic book series, and now gamers can add their legends to the landscape we’ve set up for them! I know my gaming group will be going through a few Sixth Gun RPG adventures!”
Shane Hensley, creator of Savage Worlds and owner of Pinnacle Entertainment Group, said, “I couldn’t imagine doing another Weird Western after our own Deadlands, but then I read Cullen and Brian’s work and I was blown away. I grabbed everything Oni Press published for it and was hungry for more. That’s when I realized, who better than Pinnacle to wield The Sixth Gun? We jumped into it with both guns blazing and were thrilled to bring Scott Woodard in as the lead designer. When the smoke cleared, we wound up with something I think fans of both Pinnacle’s games and Oni Press’ comics will LOVE. And just wait ‘til you see the miniatures—especially General Hume!”
“We’re beyond excited to work with Shane Hensley and Pinnacle on this game, which will let fans create and have adventures inside The Sixth Gun universe. As the creators of the definitive Weird West roleplaying game Deadlands, there’s no better publisher to bring The Sixth Gun to tabletop,” said Oni Press Senior Editor Charlie Chu.
Debuting for retail later in 2015, The Sixth Gun roleplaying game launches a Kickstarter starting on May 26th, to give fans of both The Sixth Gun comic and tabletop gaming an opportunity to pre-purchase the game with exclusive incentives and gaming accessories related to The Sixth Gun RPG. The highest tier reward, True Fan of The Sixth Gun ($600, limited to 5), offers backers one of everything, plus a few cool extras which aren’t possible in normal distribution channels—like the chance to play in a game at Gen Con Indianapolis Game Mastered by Cullen Bunn! For backers looking solely for digital game content, the reward tier is $25.
