The Empty Man Heads to Hollywood
In case you missed the news, THE EMPTY MAN is currently in development with Fox Studios as a motion picture. The comic, published by Boom!, tells the story of a seemingly contagious insanity sweeping across the world. As the disease spreads, it takes on a religious significance, with people worshiping it like a god.
David Prior is writing and directing the adaptation, and James Badge Dale and Robert Aramayo have joined the cast!
I’ve read the script, and I can promise you that it is creepy as Hell! I can;t wait for you to see this thing on the big screen!

Getting My Pulp On With Conan the Slayer!
Announced yesterday at ComicsPro 2016, I will be launching a new series of barbarian stories with CONAN THE SLAYER from Dark Horse! I’ll be joined by artist Sergio Davila to bring these stories of Robert E. Howard’s warrior to life.
Howard’s work has always meant a lot to me. The Conan tales have always been a fusion of sword and sorcery and horror that is just right up my alley, and my goal is to bring those sensibilities to this series in a big way.
Conan The Slayer #1 features a regular cover by Lee Bermejo and a 30th anniversary cover by Mark Schultz. It hits shelves July 13.

“The Empty Man” Made Fox Do It
As reported by Deadline, my comic book series THE EMPTY MAN (illustrated by Vanessa Del Rey) has been optioned by Twentieth Century Fox for development as a motion picture.
Now’s a great time to read the trade paperback of the series! You can order it from your local comic shop (always a great first shopping choice) or from Amazon.
From Deadline:
20th Century Fox has optioned The Empty Man, the Boom! graphic novel written by Eisner Award-winner Cullen Bunn and illustrated by Vanesa R. Del Rey that was published in 2014. The studio has set emerging dircetor David Prior to write and helm the adaptation in the latest to come from Fox’s first-look deal withBoom! Studios.
Although the film’s plot is being kept under wraps, the graphic novel is a supernatural thriller about a terrifying entity that may be responsible for a string of mysterious disappearances in a small midwestern town. Boom! Studios CEO and founder Ross Richie and president of development Stephen Christy will produce the pic, with Adam Yoelin co-producing. Fox’s Mark Roybal and Ryan Jones brought the project into the studio.
Prior has a rep as one of the top directors of Special Edition DVDs and Blu-rays, producing and designing documentaries for the likes of David Fincher, Peter Weir, the Coen brothers, Michael Bay, Tim Burton, David Cronenberg and Guillermo del Toro. Prior gained extra cred with his 2008 horror thriller short AM1200(check out the trailer for it below).
Boom! and Fox are already in development on several projects as part of their deal including an adaptation of James Wan’s graphic novel Malignant Man, Imagine Agents with Michael Keaton attached to star and Anonymous Content producing, Lumberjanes with Will Widger (The Munchkin) attached to write, andThe Foundation with Evan Daugherty adapting. Boom! also has a TV-side deal with 20th and has several projects in development with the likes of the UK’s Channel 4 (Butterfly) and DreamWorks Animation TV (Cow Boy).
Prior is repped by Gersh, Plattform and attorney Karl Austen.

Death Follows
Last year, The Remains was released digitally from Monkeybrain. The Remains was a dark horror tale from A.C. Zamudio, Carlos Nicholas Zamudio, and myself. The series has not been released in print form… until now. As announced by Dark Horse, the series will be collected, along with some never before seen material, in Death Follows!
From the Dark Horse website:
The Devil Has Come To Call . . .
This spring Dark Horse Books is pleased to offer a graphic novel collecting never-before-printed material from Cullen Bunn (Harrow County, The Sixth Gun) in Death Follows!
Originally debuting digitally through Monkeybrain as The Remains, Death Follows is horrifically and beautifully realized by A. C. Zamudio and Carlos Nicolas Zamudio. The print collection contains the original prose story by Cullen Bunn and a new cover by Simon Bisley.
“Death Follows is the darkest story I’ve written. It’s a supernatural horror tale set in rural North Carolina, the story of a mysterious farmhand who shows up at a struggling farm looking for work—and brings a nightmarish cycle of events with him,” remarked Bunn. “It starts with a simple (if somewhat strange) line: ‘The dead rats danced the day the hired man came around.’”
Birdie, her sister, their pregnant mother, and their frail father all live together on a struggling farm. When an itinerant farmhand named Cole comes to their aid, the children should be relieved. Instead, they find their lives spiraling into nightmare, as Cole regards Birdie’s sister with menacing desire. To make matters much worse, wherever he goes, the dead grow restless. As the horror threatens to consume her home and her family, Birdie is haunted by a chilling warning: Some secrets are meant only for the dead.
“The mystery and dread build to a horrific conclusion. It’s the stuff of nightmares, to be sure. I think readers ofHarrow County will absolutely love this book,” added Bunn.
Death Follows is in stores May 25, 2016. Preorder your copy today at your local comic shop or through these fine retailers:
Praise for Death Follows:
