The Damned Returns!

Ten years ago, Brian Hurtt and I released our first comic together. The Damned was a five-issue limited series of gangsters, tommy guns, and demons. We followed that series with The Damned: Prodigal Sons, a three-issue story. While the first five issues were collected, the follow-up was never released as a trade. Now, after a decade, Brian and I are returning to the prohibition-era world that started it all, and we’ll be joined by our collaborator on The Sixth Gun, Bill Crabtree! This time around, the book will be ongoing and in-color!

From the announcement:

During prohibition, gangsters grew rich on our vices, and rivalries between criminal organizations resulted in open war. But unknown to the masses, a more sinister power controlled the crime cartels, using greed, gluttony, lust and other sins to fuel a more lucrative trade: mortal souls. Enter Eddie, a mortal who lost his soul long ago. Caught in the middle of competing demonic families, any other human would’ve gotten the ax long ago. But Eddie’s got a special talent that keeps him on his feet. One man’s curse is another man’s gift. The Damned is hard-boiled noir with demons, and the team behind The Sixth Gun is bringing it back with new colors, a new format, and a new ongoing tale of tommy guns and hellfire.

To kick off this exciting return to The Damned, we’re re-releasing the first story arc in trade paperback, in a new format, IN COLOR, and at a FANTASTIC PRICE that should ger old and new readers excited about the book!

Monsters Unleashed Ongoing

The MONSTERS UNLEASHED event series is just getting underway (with issue 2 coming out this week) but it has been announced that I will be writing an ongoing series featuring the new character Kid Kaiju, famed monster hunter Elsa Bloodstone, and a team of giant monsters taking on the most gigantic threats the Marvel Universe has to offer! With art by David Baldeon, this one is going to be a lot of fun for fans who want something completely new in their superhero books!

Giant monsters have been reintroduced to the Marvel Universe, and after the events of the Monsters Unleashed limited series, the movers and shakers of Marvel’s hero community simply must take these behemoths seriously as a threat. With that in mind, Kei Kawade and a small group of new kaiju have been tasked with combating giant threats that surface all over the world.

From their hidden island base, Kei and a group of powerful monsters are on call, ready to face these gargantuan Leviathans wherever they may rise.

This is a series firmly rooted in the Marvel Universe. Kei, Elsa, and company will be interacting with a number of Marvel heroes, and they’ll be encountering some extremely powerful, extremely dangerous villains in addition to the giant monsters they must face.

I’ve done a number of interviews about the book, so check them out!

Regression — Coming Soon from Image!

At long last, I can announce my first book with Image Comics! REGRESSION is a horror story about past lives, demonic forces, fractured perceptions, and supernatural conspiracies.  I’ve been developing this story for a few years now, and I’m so happy to be bringing it to life with Danny Luckert, Marie Enger, and Image!

From the official press release:

“Bunn, Luckert and Enger have created a real page-turner, frightening, engrossing and clever. A must-read for horror fans.” —Steve Niles, 30 Days of Night

Bram Stoker and Eisner Award-nominated writer Cullen Bunn (Harrow County, The Sixth Gun, The Empty Man) returns with debut artist Danny Luckert (Haunted) and colorist/letterer Marie Enger (Pistolwhip, 2 Sisters) for a chilling new series in REGRESSION. The new series is set to launch this May.

REGRESSION follows Adrian, a man tormented by ghastly waking nightmares. Pushed to a point of desperation, Adrian reluctantly turns to past life regression hypnotherapy as a means of understanding and treating the unwanted visions. When his consciousness is cast back through time, Adrian witnesses a scene of horrific debauchery and diabolism before waking up. But Adrian’s more unsettled than before and something dark and unnatural has followed him back… Now Adrian finds himself descending into a world of occult conspiracy, mystery, reincarnation, and insanity—from which there is no escape.

“I think most readers know how much of a horror fiend I am,” said Bunn. “What many people don’t know is that my father was a professional hypnotist for many years. While it wasn’t part of his on-stage act, he often conducted past life regressions. During these sessions I saw people describing other time periods with pinpoint accuracy and even saw someone speaking a language they did not know. I also witnessed some really extremely creepy regressions that planted the seeds for this story of supernatural horror conspiracy.”

Perfect for fans of Bunn’s critically acclaimed HARROW COUNTY and OUTCAST BY KIRKMAN & AZACETA, REGRESSION is a frightening exploration of the wickedest corners of the untapped psyche.

REGRESSION #1 hits stores on Wednesday, May 10th.

Who Are The Grave Lilies?

cullen-bunn-grave-lilies

From the official press release:

In the aftermath of a mysterious explosion that tears through a major metropolitan area, five coffin-like stasis tubes are discovered, each branded with a woman’s name. Blasting off this December from critically acclaimed New York Times bestselling comic book writer Cullen Bunn (The Sixth Gun, Harrow County) and up-and-coming artist George Kambadais (A Place in The Heart), Grave Lilies is a riveting, Joss Wheedon-esque SciFi series — and the first superhero title from boutique New York publisher Z2 Comics.

Grave Lilies is a super-powered mystery story I’ve been excited to tell for a while now. Five young women with supernatural powers. Shadowy government agencies. Conspiracies within conspiracies,” says Bunn, a bastion of creator-owned comic book series who has written comics for Oni Press, Dark Horse, Marvel, and DC. “I love these characters. I love the sense of action, adventure, and fun in this series. And I love the dark (dare I say apocalyptic) truths that are going to be uncovered as the story progresses.”

For his first Z2 Comics series, Bunn partners with artist George Kambadais, who has worked with Image Comics and DC Comics, to bring Grave Lilies to life. “I’m a huge fan of Cullen Bunn’s work. I feel very lucky that I’m working with him on Grave Lilies,” says Kambadais. “When he sent me a short description of the story and the characters i instantly fell in love with the girls. Each girl has a unique ability and personality. I’m sure the readers will fall in love with them too.”

In Grave Lilies, readers follow five mysterious women as they escape disaster without a scratch, and with no memory of who they are. They each discover that they possess a remarkable ability: the ability to charm the masses, the power to control plant life, the gift of healing, supernatural senses, and unbelievable physical strength. The women will need these powers, too, as they are pursued by sinister agencies that want to apprehend them before they learn the shocking truth of their origins and the destiny that awaits them.

Gravel Lilies is the latest in the line of creator-owned periodicals Z2 Comics launched last year. The Z2 Comics line launched with Ian McGinty’s all-ages WELCOME TO SHOWSIDE and Chris Hunt’s noir adventure CARVER: A PARIS STORY, both now out in trade paperback. Lauded, breakout post-apocalyptic animal story LEGEND: DEFEND THE GROUNDS, the comic book debut from novelist Sam Sattin with art by Chris Koehler, is due out in trade paperback in November, while political thriller INDOCTRINATION from Michael Moreci and Matt Battaglia is due out in trade paperback in December.

Grave Lilies, which retails for $3.99, is slated to hit stores December 7, 2016. The order code for the first issue of the title, is: OCT162100. For more information, please visit http://www.gravelilies.com/.
